Me and my boyfriend are visiting San Diego for a wedding and we just happened to stop by Mr. Ray Rays. Immediately when we walked in the customer service was amazing, everyone was super kind and patient with us. Absolutely delicious sandwiches too, we got the West Coast Bite and The club sandwich. 10/10 would come again

The Bavarian Delight Sandwich & The Firehouse Gouda Sandwich

We had been passing by this strip mall and finally decided to give this sandwich spot a try. Before you walk in there are three to four tables outside, and inside they had four tabletops on the left. Mr Ray Ray's has the same concept as Subway. They offer both pre-set sandwiches for convenience and the traditional "build-your-own" option where you pick the bread, meat, vegetables, cheese and condiments. You can also pick your own chips & grab your own drink. Ray Ray made our sandwiches and was very helpful. We were both going to order the same pastrami sandwich. He talked us into getting two different sandwich to share and recommended we try one hot & one cold. I was dead set on the "Bavarian Delight". He suggested the "Firehouse Gouda" with jalapeño bread. When we were dining he received a phone call from a customer who had to call to let him know how good the sandwiches were. And I have to agree! The sandwiches were freshly made and the customer service is excellent. You can tell Ray Ray has so much passion. He was all smiles and just had a friendly demeanor.

First time trying Mr Ray Rays Gourmet Sandwich, and the first thing my family received was a warm welcome, and amazing hospitality. The menu is large enough for any craving, I had to try the Sandwich with the stores name on it and it was great with flavors jumping from savory, spicy, pickly, and a slight sweetness. The portions are quite large im going to have left overs for tomorrow. We got 6 sandwiches and they made rather quickly. I highly recommend this place, and I'll definitely be back.

Really good! The King sandwich is huge, easily two lunches. I wanted a Tuna sandwich, and Ray's delivered -- nice fresh bread roll, sprouts, banana peppers.. the whole deal, All toppings, specialty breads, and sauces are included. Delicious -- the kind of sandwich where you pick up all the bits that dropped. The shop is nice and clean, well-lit, and the foot prep area is spotless and organized. All the veggies were fresh, even on a holiday weekend. Seating inside and outside, plenty of parking. There's a reward program through the Clover app. It's a block from Valhalla High School, this place is going to do just fine.

Mr. Ray Ray's is my favorite sandwich in San Diego! All of his sandwiches are wonderful. Juicy, fresh, hot. I had the pleasure of watching Ray construct 10 or so sandwiches. He's an absolute artist. Today, we ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. He took raw green peppers, red onions and mushrooms...chopped them up and added fresh London broil. Into the back to get cooked up fresh and cheese melted! WOWWWWW Restaurant always clean, everyone always cheerful and helpful. Ray says, "Tell me what you want and I will make it for you!

Quite possibly the best sandwich I've ever had. Was a bit overwhelmed by all the fun options, but it obviously came down to the The Ray Ray Royale. A serious game changer. We swapped the mortadella for rotisserie chicken because, after he kindly insisted we sample it, we knew we needed that. So tender and flavorful and randomly paired super well with the "ground beef patty" (which is actually thinly sliced meatball in case you're assuming it's more burger-like.) All of the ingredients melded together beautifully into a mountainous pile on a perfect jalapeño roll. The fresh arugula, tomato, pickled red onion, pepperoncinis, and jalapeños that we added, complemented each other wonderfully with the signature sauce which he described as a creamy steak sauce. Genius! It's also an insane value for the price. Me and my dude split the first half there and got fairly full, then gladly polished off the second half a couple hours later. We enjoyed it even more once we toasted it up a bit. It does the bread more justice. So, definitely upgrade and get the full sandwich or you'll regret it later. Trust me. The lemonades are great, too. Made with real sugar. All of them are tasty but I liked the mango one best. Not only that, the place is immaculately clean. All the tables, the restroom, the whole damn setup is somehow completely spotless. Add to all of this one of thee kindest & most welcoming business owners I've ever encountered. He was so accommodating and patient with us and extremely forthcoming and honest about any questions we had. Never got to meet his adorable kids but this is a true mom & pop that's purely run by him, his wife, and 4 children. We wish them all the success, prosperity , and longevity. They truly deserve it!

We just tried this new sandwich spot and WOW. One of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The portions are huge, the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and the bread was perfect hearty, soft, and packed with flavor. I ordered the Maple Smokehouse sandwich and added pickles and olives, and it was absolutely incredible. The sandwich was stacked high with layers of turkey, melty cheese, fresh veggies, and the perfect balance of flavors. Every bite was delicious. The presentation was also amazing beautifully stacked and the garnish on top was such a fun touch. On top of the great food, the service was amazing. The family running the place is so kind and welcoming, and you can really feel the care they put into what they do. If you love a really good deli-style sandwich that actually fills you up, this place is definitely worth the stop. We will absolutely be back!

This place is AMAZING! The owner is very kind and friendly and helped me choose what to get for my first time, I went for a jalapeño cheddar wrap with ham. provolone, and bacon. The wrap itself is Huge, very fairly priced and tastes amazing. You can tell all the products are very fresh and the shop itself is newly remodeled and offers great variety of chips, drinks, and Mac salad. 100% recommend to anyone in the area

Mr. Ray Ray's has recently taken over Deli Belly's location in the El Cajon, Rancho San Diego location. They are just getting underway and are indeed making sandwiches. I ordered the 6" Gobbler Deluxe, which came with sliced Overgold turkey, bacon, Vermont cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard, and mayo on a wheat roll. You get to choose the type of bread you like. The sandwich cost $9.99 plus tax. The sandwich was good and they put a good amount of each ingredient in the sandwich with the exception of the bacon. It could of used one or two more slices. The turkey was tasty and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. The wheat roll was flavorful but I little on the dry side. They should consider warming it up or toasting it. Also, offering a little olive oil and wine vinegar mixture to be drizzled on the lettuce would be nice, too. The service was friendly. The young lady who made my sandwich was nice. The place is a family business. They offer inside and some outside seating.

The customer service here is excellent! Everyone is super helpful and understanding because when you make little mistakes with your order, they handle it so kindly. The food itself is delicious, and I love that they have a cute little meal deal with chips and a drink to make it a combo. It's such a nice touch! What really makes the experience special is that Mr. Ray Ray himself is there so getting to meet and interact with the owner adds such a personal, genuine feel. You can tell he cares about the food and the people. Overall, amazing service, great food, and a super friendly vibe. Highly recommend!

Sorry guys, not a big fan. Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading the reviews, and the food fell way short. Once I realized it was the same location as Deli Belly, I knew just where to go. Upon arrival everything looked good, nice and clean, the only thing different was a nice new menu on the wall. The gentleman behind the counter, assumed it was Ray or the owner, was very nice and welcoming. I ordered a sandwich called the skyline and a regular turkey. Both the small size which I believe is 6 inches. The description of the skyline looked really good but in reality was disappointing. Let's start with the bread. A small bun described as French bread, a couple of what I would call Deli slices of pastrami, a slice of cheese melted, canned, pickled jalapeños, and red onion. No lettuce, no tomato, the sandwich lacked depth, and flavor. There was nothing homemade about this sandwich and I was not impressed and actually felt like it was a waste of $12. I ordered the turkey sandwich for my granddaughters to share and it wasn't any better. On the same kind of bun, a few slices of turkey, lettuce, and that's it. To his defense , I ordered a plain sandwich from the "build your own" menu, but the portions of meat and lettuce were so minimal it looked like something I could have thrown together in my own kitchen and for way less. For $25 I got two sub par sandwiches and a bag of chips....not impressed. I will give them a second chance, I'm not mad, just disappointed. Maybe there's a sandwich on the menu they might better fit my expectations, which is, if I'm going to spend $12-13 on a sandwich, I expect it to be extraordinary, memorable, flavorful, and fresh. read more

This place is delicious! The gentlemen working there were very kind and accommodating. My boyfriend and I both did the build-your-bite option and neither of us had any complaints. The bread is soft and flavorful and there's so many options to choose from. The chipotle mayo was out of stock so he gave me two other ones to try and they were both yummy! The veggies in my sandwich also tasted very fresh. I'm excited to return and try something else! read more

Very impressed after thinking that this place might have been a little skimpy. I saw or read a review showing that they were a bit skimpy on the meat. I had a birthday deal that I used here and was far from disappointed! The place is very clean and the entire family, down to the kids, are conscientious about keeping this place in order and running well. Good job! Ray was there as well, on a Sunday, and they were working on catering orders and in-store. The "regular" sandwich is HUGE. I don't even know how big the upgraded "Giant" is. The sandwich did NOT skimp, and was loaded with ingredients. I added avocado and they did not skimp on that either. It was served on a nice plastic plate with a doily and a tiny olive, cherry tomato and picklet on a fancy looking toothpick. The ONLY drawback, is it's a little pricey.... but unfortunately (lol) the extra price is justified and worth it for what you get, but it'll keep me from coming here too often. $19 is too much for a sandwich, 20 ounce drink and small bag of chips, but even still, I give it five stars, with an asterisk for the price. read more

I was so excited to see this place under new ownership! The previous sandwich spot just wasn't it, so the change was seriously needed... and wow, what a difference. The first time I came in, Ray Ray was incredibly welcoming. He took the time to talk to me about his passion for the sandwich shop and the quality of his ingredients. You can genuinely tell he cares. He made me the biggest sandwich, absolutely packed with fresh meat and veggies. He even sent me home with samples of different mustards to try. Who does that?! That kind of service is rare. I've been coming back ever since, and every single time the sandwiches hit perfectly. Consistent, fresh, and made with pride. And bonus, the liquor store next door has a HUGE variety of unique chips and drinks, so you can grab everything you need in one stop. The owners there are always so nice, too. This is hands down the best sandwich spot in San Diego County, and it deserves way more recognition. read more

Sandwiches were delicious! Our friend was avoiding gluten so they turned one of their sandwiches into a sizable and tasty salad. My wife and I shared the Ray Ray Royale which was very tasty. The ingredients all look fresh and the owner and his family there were very nice and hospitable. The shop is nice to be in, the music isn't too loud for conversation. Went in today and was so excited to find that they offer sourdough bread bowls. I got chili and cheese and paired it with a build your own sandwich. Mr. Ray Rays is simply a great place. The sandwiches have been nothing short of magnificent. When Deli Belly closed, I was pretty disappointed, But Mr. Ray Ray's really blew them out of the water Their sandwiches are large, delicious and you get the bonus of a great environment staffed by people who are warm, and gracious. RAy is a delightful , personable person who rightfully takes great pride in his shop and in the food he offers. When I walk in, I would much rather stay and enjoy my food there than take it back home to eat. read more

Gave Mr. Ray Rays a chance for lunch yesterday, and went back again today! I normally don't leave reviews but want to help spread the word about this place. Hidden gem here in Rancho... I got the Gobbler Deluxe yesterday, pretty much a typical turkey club sandwich. Today I got a hot pastrami with their bacon ranch cheddar and both were SPECTACULAR! Super friendly service and truly amazing food. Look forward to going back really soon! MUST TRY, YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED! read more

I found out about Mr. Ray Rays on El Cajon Happenings FB page, so I thought I would try it out. Not knowing that it had been only open 3 days I went for lunch and couldn't decide what sandwich, so Mr. Ray made a suggestion of a beef and pork sandwich. It was amazing and so large I had the second half for lunch the next day. Definitely recommend. read more

The sandwiches are worth every red cent here! Service was EXCELLENT! Mr Ray Ray doesn't skimp on quality or value. We had ordered sandwiches to take to the beach for the day and everyone with us was marveling on the size and taste of our sandwiches. I was truly impressed by the quality of the bread and ingredients...very well done. I even had leftover sandwich that I ate for lunch the next day. Bread was still soft & not soggy. The best BY FAR sandwich shop we have ever had. (Jersey Mikes is not even close!) Fresh indredients, amazing bread, tons of meat, and wow! I will drive out of my way for Ray Ray's ANY day. Mr.RayRay makes the BEST sandwich in El Cajon. Hands down. Maybe even in all of San Diego. As someone who has cooked for a living most of their adult life, I can honestly say this is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Anywhere! I was super bummed when I found out my other sandwich shop closed. But talk about a Blessing In Disguise! If you love sandwich's and haven't tried Ray-Rays, you are missing out. Try it ONCE, and you'll never go back to another deli. I'm here twice a week, easy. Not to mention, the dude is super friendly. Super chill spot. He keeps the A/C cranked. I have to say I have lived in the Rancho San Diego area for my entire life and ever since I caught a glimpse of Mr. Ray Ray's gourmet sandwiches logo it has always given me a interest in trying out their menu. I just had my first encounter with Mr. Ray the owner and I must say the hospitality along with the food and the great seating arrangements. I am beyond impressed with. how well the establishment takes care of their customer, not only by serving a great dish, but also taking care and making sure that the customer is pleased with the order before they are on their way. I myself I'm also trying to promote and grow my own brand business and services. And all am in support of someone who is doing the same. While the flavors were good and the ingredients obviously fresh, there was such a small amount of turkey + bacon compared to the overwhelming amount of cheese, bread and onions to merit the $15 price tag. I'll be returning because it's very close to my home and the ingredients are good quality, but I hope the portion sizes get figured out! read more

If you haven't been to Mr. Ray Ray's yet, you're seriously missing out. This place serves next-level sandwiches, fresh, flavorful, and stacked just right. The bread is always soft but perfectly toasted, and the ingredients are super fresh. You can tell they don't cut corners here. Always have amazing conversations with the staff and are very friendly. I kept coming back, wrote rave reviews in San Diego food-related social media groups and threads, bugged food influencers about them, and sent many of my friends and family their direction because I was that big of a fan. My husband and I have taken these sandwiches on roadtrips and plane rides, grabbed them in the middle of household chores, and picked them up for each other when the other is too tired or sick to cook. The reason why I'm ultimately knocking this review back and heavily questioning whether I should return has to do with a disappointing experience from my last visit with my husband that we now think was part of a larger pattern. The past couple of times we saw this person at the register, we used my name for the order. This time, though, my husband gave his name instead and the person at the register gave him some attitude about it and asked "You're *really* going with that?" I don't understand what their problem was with his name, but both the person in the front and the staff in the back refused to use it. They called out everyone else's names (and they usually call out mine when I order) and we noticed that our sandwiches were looking skimpy compared to how stacked we know they can come. My husband uses a nickname that might not be the name he was given at birth, but is a name he has used for over 20 years and might as well be his "real," name. We don't want to make assumptions, but most of the staff has always been at least a little cold towards us at best, slightly rude at worst, and even though this experience might seem relatively small to some, it's ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back. We suspect that their distaste for us might be politically motivated. We know it can't be personal because we've been nothing but polite. It sucks, but it seems to be that if they perceive you to not be "their people," your money isn't as green at their establishment, even if it spends all the same. I loved this place and felt lucky that they're close to my house, but feeling disrespected and like the staff are trying to fire us as customers is enough motivation to take our business elsewhere.
