Fantastic experience here on Father's Day. It was our first time in and the service was friendly and helpful. We tried a bunch of items: latte, caramel macchiato, açaí bowl, Japanese souffle pancakes, Tokyo egg drop sandwich, chashu eggs Benedict with a pancake. The portions were generous and while all the food was good the standout was the benedict. The hollandaise was super bright and had a great lemon flavor--much better than any I've had elsewhere! The eggs were perfectly cooked and the chashu was delicious and well caramelized and even after sharing with my kid there was plenty. We regretted not getting the house potatoes with it as they looked amazing at the other tables. The pancake was very good though-fluffy and flavorful. The egg drop sandwich was also really good with super fluffy bread and tons of good filling. My kid enjoyed everything which was a boon. The Japanese souffle pancakes were fine but not as stand out as the other dishes. I have tried making them myself and had them at morning glory and such and they are often too eggy for my liking. Oh, we tried to order the ube pancake but they were out so we will have to get it next time. We will come back soon for more Benedict's and those potatoes. Yum!! read more

Had a really nice brunch at Tappi's this past Sunday. We made a reservation but probably did not need it as we arrived around 11am on Sunday. The waitress greeted and seated us promptly. The menu is long and varied. There is definitely something for everyone here. We ordered a decaf cappuccino to start. Warning, unless you specify a regular size they will bring you the large, 16 ounce by default. I would prefer if they asked what size we wanted first. We ordered the shakshuka, the veggie georgian cheese pie and the soufflé pancake. The pancake takes 20-30 minutes and cones with a bit of whip cream some fruit and syrup. Overall the shakshuka and the pie were very good. The soufflé pancake was a bit of a let down. Let's just say I've had better Japanese soufflé pancakes elsewhere. We have been driving by Tappi's Cafe for many years. It was always closed. We have never bother looking up the place and realizing its hours is like Broken Yolk; they close at 3pm. Anyways, when I finally got smart and looked up the menu, I was intrigued to see they have Japanese Soufflé. So we stopped by Saturday morning, and we were pleasantly impressed. When you walk in, you are greeted right away. It's a quaint spot with cute decor. They have a few 2 and 4 tops. They were pretty strict with not allowing a party of 2 to sit on a table for 4. This made the table cramped as we got our entrees and had our bottle of wine. Our servers name was Valentina. She was great I came in to order the Japanese soufflé but they had ran out, and they also didn't have German pancakes. I was bummed but decided on the same dish as Tim and we both ordered Steak & Eggs Benedict. As we were enjoying our mimosas and great conversation, either the staffer or the owner came in with bags of ingredients. Valentina came back to our table to let me know that I can order Japanese soufflé if I still wanted it. And of course I said YES! And let me tell you it was SOOO good. It doesn't have the same shape or texture on the top as you would expect. It had a light crust. It was sweet and so delicious. I finally had the chance to try Tappi's Café, a little spot I've always noticed but never had the opportunity to visit until now. I wanted to find a new breakfast place with quality food, and thought, why not Tappi's? I suggested it to my daughter, and she happily agreed. It's a smaller café, but cozy, charming, and simply chic, the kind of place that instantly feels welcoming. Their menu offers a nice variety of creative dishes, which made it hard to choose! I ordered the Egg Tacos, which sounded fun and different, along with a side of potatoes. My daughter went with the Steak and Egg Burrito. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Our food came out quickly and was beautifully presented. You can tell care goes into every plate. We both enjoyed our meals immensely! The flavors were fresh, balanced, and perfectly cooked. If I could make one small suggestion, it would be to serve a slightly larger portion of potatoes on the side; they were delicious but I wanted more! Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The coffee was delightful and plenty , I asked for a to go cup as I couldn't drink it all . We ordered our food and my son and I received our food . I was waiting for my husband to get his food but he insisted on me eating while it was hot . Good decision to do so . I finished my breakfast and he still was waiting for his food . I had to ask the waitress what was the status on his food and apologized it was taking awhile . It was way too long . The food was good , I would like to see a kids menu. Tappi's Cafe located in Rancho San Diego in a shopping center located in the same parking lot as the car wash. It appears to be a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. Extremely small venue that offers indoor and outdoor seating. They may be able to accommodate a party of 8 at the most but, it will be a tight fit. Customer service was amazing and so was the food! I did not care for their cherry latte at all. It had a very unpleasant flavor. ​I was really interested in trying this spot, but it ended up being a bit of a mixed bag. Unfortunately, they were out of all their cheesecakes, so I missed out on dessert. For my main, I ordered the tacos and added kielbasa; it was okay, but nothing special. My side of potatoes was also surprisingly tiny--less than an 1/8 of a cup. I'm a light eater, but it honestly looked like a kids' portion. On the bright side, my friend's cheese and bread dish looked incredibly cheesy and satisfying. ​The highlight was definitely the atmosphere and hospitality. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and our server was incredibly polite and attentive. Everyone else around us seemed to love their food, so maybe it was just an off morning for the kitchen. While it seems to be a popular spot for good reason, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me, and I won't be making the drive out to RSD for it anytime soon. read more

Yum! The Japanese soufflé took about 20 minutes to arrive which is standard. These generally take longer to cook based on my experiences at other restaurants. When the pancakes finally arrived, they looked beautiful and were delightful to eat. They were light, fluffy, moist and not too sweet. They tasted slightly eggy, but still very good. I also had a Turkish coffee which was strong. The ambiance was casual and comfortable. Service was friendly. Overall, it was a 4.5 star experience. What a great little Cafe! Our server was the sweetest, full of advice and insight. We had Turkish coffee for the first time. That was an interesting experience, I was a bit wired for the next 4 hours. The flavor was very different than anything I've ever had. Coffee that tastes like tea is how I would explain it We ordered a japanese fluffy egg sandwich with kafta, khachapuri with beef and cheese and the special. I loved both of the Mediterranean dishes. The cheese on the khachapuri was so delicious the bread was crispy but soft. The special came in a cast iron pan, sort of a breakfast pot pie with bread that tasted like Naan. The eggs were perfectly poached in a light but flavorful tomato sauce. I would probably pass on the breakfast sandwich next time. My family and I were craving some soufflé pancakes. We used to go to Morning Glory, but Little Italy is a nightmare for parking- especially on a Saturday morning. (Not to mention the hour+ wait) I searched yelp for some soufflé pancakes and found Tappi's Cafe. Not only is it closer to us, but tons of parking! It was relaxing and cozy, not stuffy or pretentious. We got seated right away, and all the staff were very attentive. We loved our server Valentina, she was so sweet. She even asked me (quietly) if she could offer my toddler some candy, after our meal. All the food was delicious. My Turkish coffee was delightful and strong, exactly what I was looking for. We went to Tappi Cafe New Years Day big group of 10 and we got seated right away, the service and food were AMAZING!! Best local breakfast place to eat at in Rancho San Diego! I ordered a vanilla latte which was some of the best coffee I've had. Secondly, we order shakshuka, basturma and eggs, cheese bread(Khachapuri), and Tokyo sandwich and chocolate chip pancake. There was not one thing that wasn't fantastic!! My personal favorite was the shakshuka with sujuk, the flavors were outstanding as many other restaurants will serve this, but it isn't as good as tappis cafe! The drinks we ordered were the chai latte and cappuccino which were delicious. There's seating available Tokyo Sandwich was okay tasting. The farm egg breakfast plate was good but felt like they didn't give enough food. The French toast Nutella tasted like Pinesol cleaning solution. It was not edible at all. Luckily they did remove that from our bill. The ube pancake was okay but they are very stingy when it comes to syrup. They give you a big old pancake with two small one inch tubes of syrup so the pancake just tasted very dry. Although the staff were very nice the food was not so great. read more

Listed coffee prices are different than they actually are when rung up. A Tappi's latte is listed as $7 on their billboard menu but $8 at the register and then around $8.60 total after tax. They should look into changing their prices to reflect what they actually are; as it is clearly violating the Honest Pricing Law (SB 478) On another note, this coffee isn't good enough to be charging $8; it was pretty gross and tasted synthetic. read more

We tried this place on a weekend around 11 and it wasn't busy. The place was nicely decorated and comfortable. The menu was a bit pricier than what we were used to seeing at other Mediterranean restaurants but wanted to give it a try. We were glad to see happy hour was an option so we ordered a wrap and truffle fries and then a filet mignon beef plate from the regular menu. The food took quite some time to come out considering we were the first people at the restaurant. The wraps came out and they were sliced and presented nicely on the plate. The wraps were pretty small though (width wise) and definitely a happy hour size but the cost was about the same as a regular wrap at other Mediterranean places. Anyhow, the filet beef came out and took a bite and noticed there was some lint on one end and ignored it but saw more lint all over the meat. Wasn't too noticeable at first but I ended up showing it to the server and asked what that was. She took the plate back to the cooks and they said that was part of the recipe. After asking what it was, she said she didn't know. I said I would take the plate then and figure I'd just remove the lint but she said the cooks didn't want me to take it if I wasn't happy with it and offered to have me order something else. Because of the length of time it took to get the food and my family was almost finished with their food, I didn't order anything else. The server didn't seem to care one way or the other but didn't charge for that plate. We never got checked on to have our waters refilled and had to flag down the server even to get the check. I don't plan on returning to this place- overpriced for what you get and the quality (at least for the beef plate at the time), and lack of service. read more

Tappi's seemed like a cool new brunch spot to try but it was a miss. I ordered the soufflé pancakes, Tokyo sandwich, Okinawa sandwich, American coffee, and dirty matcha ($65.76 total). Waited 45 minutes for soufflé pancakes that were very eggy, deflated, and similar to a Dutch pancake. The sandwich bread was extremely dry and texture that was almost like cornbread. I ended up only eating the inside of the sandwich and took the bread to go. The iced drinks are served in plastic to-go cups which took a bit away from the brunch ambiance. The dirty matcha was an extra $2 for espresso and tasted a little metallic. The Sunday brunch service was very busy with no more than 5-10 minute wait time but the service was poor. Our server forgot some of our requests and took our food order after ~30 minutes or being seated. Yes, it was busy but it hits a bit harder when you see everyone else getting their food when they sat down 30-60 minutes after you were seated. There is also only 1 bathroom in a crowded area by the kitchen, cashier, and food pick up so it was hard waiting in line for the bathroom. read more

This hidden gem has been around for 2 years, and it's a delightful spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I popped in on a quiet weekday morning for breakfast, and the vibe was spot on. The interior? Think hanging plants and a wall full of witty coffee captions--a space that practically invites you to stay awhile. I ordered the Tokyo Sandwich, which was served on garlic brioche bread and absolutely delicious. The highlight, of course, was the Turkish coffee, bold, rich, and steeped in tradition--this isn't your average cup of joe. It is served in a traditional fincan--such a special touch that made the experience even more authentic. The service was great! Oooooh weeee! Was in the rancho San Diego area for an appointment and it rolled during breakfast time so we figured... let's do brunch! The menu is so varied from Japanese, Mexican, middle eastern and classic American, they have a bit for every taste buds and what we tried was oh so delicious! We got their shakshuka and it was so delicious and blasting with flavors. The bread was non traditional and tasted more like pizza dough mix but it was soft and fluffy. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Their pancakes are no ordinary pancakes, they're massive and spongy, come with droppers jabbed into them which is a cute touch. I would say one pancake would be the equivalent of 2, so order with caution unless you have a massive appetite to devour 2, my teen didn't even finish half of his and he eats like a garbage disposal The house potatoes are amazingly delicious! They put my roasted potatoes to shame because whatever seasoning they use on them is so perfectly crafted For drinks we tried the honeymoon coffee and hmmm great spin with the honey, truly enjoyed it, my son ordered the chocolate milk, he wasn't thrilled with the ice in it, as the ice started melting rather quick and messed up the taste, milk and water just don't go together. Overall the service was good, the young ladies tending to the customers were pretty nice. It's not a huge cafe but perfectly size and not overcrowded on a weekday.
