We recently bought a house and wanted to get the locks changed. After reading what everyone else had to say about Mr. Locksmith, I completely agree; I can't recommend Eli highly enough! I have to admit that even after reading all the other reviews, I was pretty skeptical that I'd get a quick call-back. But within 15 minutes of leaving a message, Eli called me back! He listened to what I had to say, thoroughly and thoughtfully answered all of my questions, gave me a guesstimate as to what I would probably need, and scheduled an appointment for a time that was most convenient *for me*. When he arrived -- right on time! -- he took a look at the locks I had and gave me a few options, and once we agreed on what he was going to do, he gave me a written estimate and got right to work. When he was done (more quickly than he'd anticipated) he showed me his work, explained how each lock was different than it had been and told me exactly how to use each of them. His pricing was reasonable, and he accepted my credit card even though he prefers check (oops, I forgot to ask about that). What most impressed me about Eli -- aside from his cheerful attitude, promptness and obvious expertise -- was that he suggested (significantly!) lower priced alternatives to the locks I'd originally thought I wanted. He could have simply given me the more expensive locks (at about three times the price), but instead he explained why the they weren't as great as I thought they were, and why the locks he was suggesting were a better option for me. We were recommended Eli by a fellow small property owner a few years back and since have used Mr. Locksmith to re-key our own new home, install a keyless code lock, and in addition he has replaced or re-keyed our locks at our rental property at least four times now, including a quick response to an emergency call when a lock broke on a tenant and she couldn't get into the apartment. If you are in Greater Boston and need a locksmith, call Eli. He is skilled beyond measure, prompt/courteous, an effective communicator, and insisted on sticking to the quote he originally gave me for a job that ended up being far more difficult than anticipated due to rust/corrosion and mismatched pre-existing parts on a wrought iron gate in the South End. It was truly impressive to watch Eli work, seeing the wheels turn in his head to solve a very complicated and tricky problem. I would be comfortable letting Eli work in my home even if I were not there based on our two or so hours spent chatting while he worked. When it comes to locks and the safety of your family, there are no hands I'd trust more than Eli's. I'm genuinely surprised I can be this impressed by a locksmith, which I naively thought to be a fairly straightforward and binary profession; the skills to pick an old and rusted faceplate to expose the lock mechanism underneath, deftly drill out brittle screws, and mismatching spacers and trim to replace a lock that is now discontinued were simply awesome. I called him with somewhat of an emergent issue and he offered to call his next customer to see if they wouldn't mind a later appointment that day. The other day a guy tried to break in to my apartment. By chance I was working from home that day and was able to dissuade would be criminal from entering. The very next morning I called Eli and told him what happened. He managed to fit me into his busy schedule. He was very up front on the phone about what what it would cost me and the prices were good compared to other smiths in the area. He arrived and performed a quick eval of what would be needed and drew up his official quote. He re-keyed a lock of mine and replaced another. He was very friendly and was more than willing to discuss his work (as he was performing it), locks and security in general. My new locks work great and I feel much more secure now that Eli has come and performed this service. I've legitimately NEVER left a Yelp review until today (only used it in the past for references and what not) but HAVE to leave one for Eli. Just an all around honest and great guy. I'd called two other locksmiths with no return call (now going on about 36 hours). Eli got back to me within minutes at 5PM on a Friday (When most people would sooner jump off a bridge than return a call or text) and I had an appointment the very next morning. I didn't actually use Mr. Locksmith, and that's why i'm posting a review. I was having a lot of difficulty getting my key into my lock, and my knee jerk reaction was to call a locksmith immediately. The guy I spoke to on the phone told me that I probably didn't need him, and that I should just spray WD40 in the lock. If that didn't work, the lock was broken and he'd come out. In hindsight I should have thought about trying WD40 first, but I didn't, and easily could have been sold a new lock by an unscrupulous locksmith. Kudos to this guy for his honesty. Eli was prompt to reply to my request to have the locks changed in our new home. He explained the difference between having to replace the lock and just rekeying it. He requested photos of each lock and informed us that if we had all the keys for the locks he would be able to rekey them-we did, so this saved us a lot of money!
