My family & I have eaten here multiple times! We will make the 1 hour drive all the way from the southwest suburbs every time! The food always tastes amazing. Parking sometimes can be hard to find during busy times as it's within an outdoor mall area. You may have to park by the AMC theater lot, but it's a short walk to the restaurant. When you arrive, you check in on a tablet at the front desk & they'll text you when your table is ready (Unless it's not busy, which they can seat you right away). This Randhurst location has much more space & has a nice bar area where they play kpop music videos on multiple TV screens. If this is your first time at about Korean BBQ restaurant, expect to grill your own meat to your liking. This isn't everyone's cup of tea, but we enjoy the experience. Our favorite meats to order are the Beef Brisket, Bulgogi Beef, Galbi, & Garlic Pork Belly. We also love these sides: Corn Cheese, Egg Casserole, & Spicy Tofu Soup! Whoever said this place was good is an absolute liar! This was by far the worst Korean BBQ AYCE my husband and I ever had in our lives. From the moment we walked in, the female host was rude. I can pretty much assume that management sucks if their employees are acting this way. It's a tell tale sign that you must not be a good business owner if your employees lack positive attitudes and proper training. My husband and I were waiting for our booth and the rude female host approached us and rudely told us to wait at the bar. Once we got our booth, we sat down and she aggressively picked up something from our table and left. Shortly after, the waiter came and I told him about the incident and he didn't seem to care at all either. If you're a host at a restaurant, you should be welcoming and speak to customers with kindness instead of looking extremely mad with a resting B*tch face and acting like some entitled brat. We didn't like her energy at all. I don't see what all the hype is about this place. It truly was not a good experience and their meat portions were tiny and didn't taste good at all, bonchon was embarrassing. The most exciting thing about eating Korean bbq is the plethora of bonchon and this place served only 5 different things ranging from salad with nothing but dressing, two pickled radishes, cuttle fish, a little bit of cold noodles and kimchi. They did not give a lot at all. The KFC was extremely greasy and tasted like you were eating a hot oil pocket, the batter was nasty. They didn't leave the sauces on the table, you had to continuously ask for it and the waiter would just squeeze the tiniest amount and leave abruptly. It felt like we were in prison waiting for our rations of food, begging for more. Another thing we didn't like was when we ordered the brisket the first time, our waiter just dumped all the brisket onto the griddle and took the bowl, who the hell said we wanted to dump all the brisket in at once and start with that? We observed at larger parties, he just left all their brisket in the bowls and let them take control of cooking their brisket. I told my husband to order the brisket again to see if he would do the same thing and he tried dumping all the brisket onto the griddle till my husband stopped him and told him we didn't want to just throw it all in there at once. We both thought that was super annoying. Just to retrieve a bowl quickly, you train your employees to dump the brisket? Let the customers enjoy the experience instead of feeling like they need to rush all because you guys want to collect the bowls from tables that are only for two. There's favoritism towards tables that have a lot of people. After today's experience, we are NEVER going here again. If you want really good Korean BBQ and hot pot, please go to Shinhwa in Chinatown!!! Gratuity of almost 18 dollars was already added. We left shaking our heads in disappointment. You guys don't deserve any kind of tip for the rude service and disgusting food. This place only cares about "LARGE" parties of people, just read one review below of them shunning a guy just because he wanted to eat alone. We like it here. It's new, it's clean, it's in a mall outlet. They have 2 tier of bbq and that's really the best part. $35 and $30 without seafood, steak, galbi and something else. They give you plenty of banchan. Tokbokki, kimchi, radish, lettuce and noodles. They refilled it to the point, you get full from it. I can't even complain that they're not stingy about it like others! They give you a pitcher of water. They offer rice. You can order 3 meats at a time. KFC is a must. Their fried chicken and spicy tofu soup is delicious. Everything is pretty much delicious though! I also recommend thin sliced pork belly. Yum! Funny thing is, our waiter would not give us our check while there's meat is the grill. LOL I just thought that's so funny. There was garlic pork belly on the grill cooking but we tend to ask for check early to ease the pain of WAITING for the check when we are ready to leave the restaurant. I've never experienced this and we eat out every weekend. Waiter was afraid we won't eat the meat and leave? Dude, did you see how big we are? Give us our check. Finally made it to Mr. Kimchi and now I get the hype!! It was insanely busy when we went and we waited about 45 minutes for a table of three on a weekend night, but it was worth it. We ordered a ton of different meats and everything came out quickly. The pork belly was really good, and the pork steak was also super tasty. The spicy chicken had lots of flavor, and the bulgogi was our favorite. I also like the steamed egg and all the side dishes that come with the meal. Even though the place was packed, the workers were so efficient and constantly checked in on us. The smoke sucker is right above the pan to help with the smoke going in your face. So many upgrades since we were here last time. We have been here many times (a big special occasion place for my family), and it never disappoints. Today, we decided to go for the premium ayce which includes LA Galbi. To our surprise, they gave us bone-in galbi. We don't get the premium meal often, but I remembered it used to be boneless galbi, which is good, but could be better. The waiter mentioned they just changed it to bone-in galbi a few weeks ago! Huge additional plus. Then towards the end of the meal, he mentioned how they also have a ramen bar that's part of the ayce too. This was pretty exciting so we also got a bowl of ramen which the kids enjoyed watching. The waiter recommended one called sesame, which included an egg block inside it, which was interesting. This place has both its pros and cons, some of which is in direct comparison with some of the other Mr Kimchi locations. Pros: The place has a nice vibe to it with plenty of seating. The two times I've been here, we didn't end up having to wait in line at all before we were seated. The meats themselves were fine for KBBQ and there's a decent selection to pick from. Cons: For having a two hour time limit, the servers were unfortunately a bit slow to get the meats out (and you're limited to only selecting 3 at a time no matter how large your table size). While I was still adequately full within the 2 hours, it was a bit disappointing to know we could have consumed another few plates of meat, especially since they crammed 6 of us to a single burner. If they gave a bit more leeway to the 2 hour time limit given the wait time for the meats, we probably would have left a bit more satisfied. read more

We regularly frequent Mr Kimchi. Tonight was a little different than the other visits. The dipping sauces were different from the usual sesame oil, ssamjang, doenjang sauces-- it tasted like a ponzu sauce and chikFilA-esque mayonnaise type sauce. They changed their policy to choosing/ordering 5 items from the Premium Menu at a time. I enjoyed the selection of meats available. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that the shrimp wasn't deveined. I like that it felt well ventilated. Each eating booth was clean with long benches. The grilling plate was a large 12.5" plate. I liked that there was plenty of surface area to grill. It is nice to know there is a few possibilities of accommodating large groups. Service is usually hit or miss. Some times staff is very friendly and accommodating, other times, like tonight, the server did not say a word. I asked for lettuce, but they would forget and I had to ask multiple times. So me and my stretchy pants scuttled over to JAWS a parking spot from a baby carriage loading couple leaving last min... just across the doors of MK on this Saturday night. Scored this last minute at about 6:30pm BUT they had a waiting of 45min. Ugh wtaf... so off to Homegoods around the corner to chill ... after stopping by to check in. Yeah my 'rents sat there but I could not deal with the milling cattle corral of mall carnivores... geez. Never hit a mall area on a Sat night. =/ AMBIANCE The Randhurst location is their second, and so freaking busy. There seems to be a waiting list that may be accessible thru Yelp that was at the front desk on a tablet. Use it of it exists, they only take rezos for parties of 10+... tbh if I had known about the wait I prolly would have went to the Mt Prospect location. Interior is okay but the loop design floorplan is stupid, you have to circle one side of the entire restaurant to get to the restroom and dodge bus and food drop carts like it's a game of Frogger. You can't have a center aisle? Or a shortcut on each side? This is a fire hazard. In a panic exit situation this will cause a trample. Also not a fan of being looked at by these waiting people in your booth by the entry doors. Who designed this place?! Dennys or IHOP is setup better FOOD Its Korean food, that you cook yourselves at about $43 pp (basic meat selection menu level) after the mandatory $18% tip and taxes are factored in... and only breaking even if you eat 2 servings of meat and hopefully enough sides and appetizers in the alloted 2 hours to justify that tab... annoying that samm (lettuce wrap) are $3.50 per bowl, and they forget to bring a dollop of the gochujang (red pepper paste) or daejang (bean paste) with it ... unless you ask for it specifically. Service was decent but nothing amazing considering you're on a timer to get items. The cleanup could be better as well, we piled up dirty dishes to be taken to make room as a hint ... and that happened about 5x. A great AYCE Korean bbq restaurant! This might be my new favorite AYCE BBQ. We used to go to the original location all the time. This new location is an upgrade. They've added the same sides as Iron Age. Salad is different, but still tastes good. I like Mr Kimchi the best because they have all the sides the Iron Age has, but they also have corn cheese and soup! Service is great. It was quick. I particularly liked the baby squid, it was fun to see curl up with heat applied to it. The steak is so tender and definitely worth the upgrade to the premium. Today we went with my don and his buddies who just graduated boot camp for their 1st real meal after eating crappy meals at the camp. The bbq is All-you-can-eat, we didn't ask if there's ala carte option, but they have good selection of korean alcohols and japanese beers. There's not much non alcohol selection except smoothies, pepsi products, and desserts including popsicles. All the staff are great, very diligent to change the grill pan immediately after the plate charred, always comes over to check if we need anything else, or need to add more meat orders. We can only order 3 meat plates at a time, then re-ordered the next round if needed. I feel it's pricey- regular $29.95, and premium $34.95, but kids price is interesting (add $2.50 each age between ages 3-10). Our kids ages 4 and 10, so we paid $5.00 and $20.00. Meat portions are decent and appetizers may be reordered as much as you want. Overall, not bad for a Korean BbQ in Chicago area. We had the regular buffet, only two choice of beef, bulgogi is really good. Friend chicken is also a must try so crunchy and better than KFC. The rest we tried were so so... The banchans were not good, fish cake was so dry, the lettuce mix has all crowns and so hard like a food for animals. The corn cheese was okay but when it gets cold it doesn't taste good anymore. This is my first time eating at this location. This location is much better than the other location. The ambiance is more modern and updated. I wish they cleaned the booth a little better. The booth was a little dirty with oil on the seat. There are two kinds of ayce. We got the premium one because they have more choices of meats and options. I recommend getting the kfc chicken, cajun pork belly, galbi, Mr Steak, cheese corn, and egg casserole. All the meats were tasty and portions were not small. Each time you can order three meats at a time. Service was good. The server kept coming back to see if we wanted to order more food. He also kept changing our grill when it gets black. I'll give an honest review of the newer Mr Kimchi location. Some of these 1 star reviews are laughable because they sound almost fake. First of all, the staff is not racist, I'm not sure why people pull the race card at a restaurant. To give you an idea, my group was Asian and Hispanic and we got seated within a couple mins. We came on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy. I took a picture but they have a regular and premium for the ayce. You might as well get the premium for $5 more. Yes, there is service and the food has taste. Our server came often to check up on us and ask if we needed anything. He was very patient with our requests. They give you banchan but there are additional sides if you look at the menu. I recommend getting bulgogi, Mr steak, galbi, beef thin intestine only if you can cook it correctly, Cajun pork belly, kfc chicken, and egg casserole. The corn cheese was good but I didn't like that it was hard to scoop. The bottom of the corn was too tough and melted. The meats were all tasty but some of the the pork belly's had more fat than meat. Pricing is fair for ayce. I've been to many kbbq's. Overall 4.5. It's noted on the website that 18% gratuity will be added to ayce, lettuce wrap is $3.50, and white rice is $2. To the ignorant people that are surprised you have to cook the food yourself, I suggest you just stick to McDonald's. read more

I love coming to Mr. Kimchi whenever I'm craving for Korean bbq! This place satisfies all your meat cravings! Mr. Kimchi is located in a plaza with lots of parking. I highly recommend trying to go during off peak hours. They can get very busy and packed during dinner rush and the wait can be up to 2 hours! They will only seat you when everyone in your party is present. They do take reservations with larger parties. Their meat quality is a lot better than most AYCE places and the flavor is on point. Is it weird to say my favorite thing about here is the ventilation? One of the biggest drawbacks of Korean BBQ is the smell of meat and smoke all over your clothes, but Mr Kimchi has giant vacuums hovering inches over the grill to suck up all those scents. It's not a unique feature here, but an appreciated one. It's AYCE here, and you have a choice between a standard and premium menu. We stick to standard, which comes with two choices of beef, some pork and chicken options, and some hot side dishes like soup, fried chicken, and egg casserole. No seafood on the standard menu. Currently the standard dinner menu price is $30, while Iron Age price is about the same and has more cuts of beef and squid and shrimp. No vacuums there however. Also the vibe is a little different here than Iron Age, which has huge TVs blasting K-pop (which I love by the way). Here the TVs are just above the bar with a mix of K-pop, sports and competitive videogaming (which all also appeal to me). The food is about what you'd expect, a bunch of raw meat and some of it is preseasoned. The service is great, even when it's a busy night we were consistently checked on and always had a clean grill when we were on to our next round of meats. My biggest gripes with here have nothing to do with the food or service, but the design of the restaurant and the area the restaurant is in. They require the full party to be present to be seated which is fair, but when there's a big wait the front area gets crowded with very little seating. Even though they have a waitlist, when it's cold out there's not really anywhere nearby to kill time other than squishing inside. Additionally, the parking situation here is terrible and confusing. There are only like ten spots near to the door, and if you can't get in you have to go a block away to the theater parking garage. Not sure what Mr Kimchi can do about that but it's something to be aware of. Overall though, it's a great spot if you're looking to load up on meat with a big group. They even gave my mom and wife roses for Valentine's Day, though I may have eaten the chocolates they gave them. When in the mood for kbbq, we now have so many options nearby. We used to go to the OG Mr. Kimchi location but since this one opened up closer we frequent here more. Located in Randhurst right by the movie theatre, there is plenty of complimentary parking. Once you arrive be sure to join their waitlist to avoid long wait times. I think the longest I've ever waited was 20 minutes during peak dinner time. Once seated you get to pick which all you can eat package you'd like. The whole table has to do the same one, which makes perfect sense as you're grilling together. The sides come out endlessly, but note that rice is an additional charge. The crowds are always bustling here and the meats come out super quick. The staff does a great job changing out our grill plates often as well. Overall we have a great time here, and will be back again soon. read more

So, I tell my buddy I was in the mood for Korean BBQ & was going to go to my regular spot Iron Age. He said that Mr. Kimchi was more authentic (I still love you Iron Age, don't worry), & that this location was the first & best. Awesome. So I drive there from Chicago to enjoy some nice intestines (hey, to each their own) & I get there in 40 minutes or so right when they open. I walk in, looking forward to some awesome Korean BBQ when I am asked the question of doom: How many? I said it was just me & I was told that there's a minimum of 2 people. I asked why. My brain is still a bit broken from the answer, but the answer was "Because it's all you can eat". Wait, what? Would the balance of the cosmos be put off if only one person used the grill? Now, I'd like to make it very clear here that the people at the front desk were very nice, polite, & visibly saddened when the look of what I can only describe as a world ending look on my face appeared. I mentioned this to a couple other people who almost slapped the brains out of the back of their heads because honestly, how does that make any sense whatsoever? Oh right, it doesn't. Why can't I just pay for the all you can eat? Then eat all I can? So, I went to Iron Age, by myself, & had some excellent Korean BBQ & service as always. I think the servers here must rotate cuz we kept getting different guys, but everyone was nice and great. We had the regular all you can eat on a Sunday so we didn't get their discount but I thought it was worth it. We had the brisket, thin pork belly, garlic pork belly, pork neck (which was a big steak size that we had to cut up), bulgogi and spicy pork. The thin cut meats weren't as thin as I'm used to. The bulgogi was too sweet but the spicy pork was great. For a second visit, I'd stick to the brisket, garlic pork belly, and spicy pork. Or maybe try the premium for the intestines and kalbi (though I think the kalbi would be using the same marinate as the bulgogi and be too sweet). The Galbi was really good which comes with the premium set. It's now bone-in LA Galbi as of 2 weeks ago per the waiter, which is an awesome addition especially for the price! The service was excellent, and they came to our table to check if we needed anything frequently and replaced the grill when needed. It was also very clean since this is one of their newer locations. My biggest complain is the hostess. We got there around 420p (party of 2). Another party of 2 got there AFTER us and got seated BEFORE us!!! Props to those individuals (seated before us)because they even told/asked the hostess, "that couple was here first, they should be seated first!". The hostess didn't acknowledge that statement. Went Sunday night around 6 and was greeted in front of by hostess Barri? We're seated after a couple minutes, place was not as crowded yet but after awhile it started getting crowded. Service was good not great by Sean kinda slow when we had to wait for our meats to come abd some of our Banchons needed replacing. We had Brisket , Garlic Pork Belly and Beef Bulgogi, first two were the best, we ordered spicy soup, cheesy corn , egg dish and the KFC chicken which was really good, other meats were great like Cajun pork belly, the other pork belly flavors as well, we were kinda waiting in between the orders of meat since we weren't really sure when he'll be around to ask us if we needed anything else? The place had K pop music playing more like Club or Bar like ambiance with Neon Lights and well lighting. The ventilation is not very good, maybe because the grill was always on high and no one else can control it only if your server is around, our was mostly burning from the empty grill on high heat. You smell like you went to a campfire after cooking the different types of meat.Ventilation is not very good, not like the other Korean BBq around the areas. My friends and I came here on a Saturday night a little after 9. We were told that the kitchen closes at 10:30 thinking we had plenty of time to eat. We agreed that it was fine and were seated. The server greeted us pretty quickly and placed our orders in. The meats were good. The usual ones they have at other kbbq places. I always love the beef brisket especially when I can get it a bit crispy. We were also only allowed to order 3 meats at a time which is okay. I do love how they have the little fab above the grill to suck up all the smoke. I had no issues with the service or selection on the menu. What I did have an issue with are the hours. It shows online and at the restaurant that they close at midnight. The server asked for our last order right before 1030 because the kitchen was closing (which I completely understand). As soon as the last order came, they switched the grill for us for a new, clean one, and brought out the check. No rush they said. Yet, every couple minutes someone walked by, looking at us, cleaning the tables around us, making us feel rushed to leave. We paid and were working on finishing what we had ordered. People at the booth over were workers waiting for us to finish and clean our table. Someone else was walking back and fourth and turned off the music. Once we finished eating, they were friendly and said goodbye. Then turned off all the lights once we were out the door. Long story short, don't come here late if you don't plan on leaving at or before 1030. If they're in a rush, they should change their hours to close at 11 or even 1030. I didn't appreciate feeling rushed to leave when they're supposed to be open until midnight. read more

We had a group of 4 at this AYCE. We went premium menu plus there was a Thursday night bonus (extra strip steak). We were able to try many of the meats, including the bulgogi, galbi, wine pork belly, spicy pork, spicy squid, etc. But we kept going back to the galbi! Marinades are delicious and the meat kept coming! You get 3 meats per round and the staff sets out a fresh pan each time. There are extra stipulations around automatic gratuity, leftover food penalties, etc. I know we were all pretty full at the end of 3 or 4 rounds, but all these extra are a bit of a drag though they are pretty commonplace at these AYCE places, even at the $34.95 premium price tag.
