I called Mr. Keyman, got a voicemail and decided to hangup because it sounded like a personal phone line. John called me back about a minute later and apologized for being on the other line. He was able to get out to us in a couple days (as our needs weren't urgent) AND he gave me exact quotes for the work to be done. John not only kept his appointment time, he sent a text 1 hour before arrival, and 5 minutes prior as well. He was courteous, efficient (in and out in about 30 min), and price was exactly as quoted. Here is the thing, John owns his own business, does all the work, is a local, and is keeping the idea of providing thoughtful and exceptional service alive. When John was rekeying my front door, he noticed that the frame was set incorrectly, went to his van, got a drill and fixed it... because he could. Received quick service today getting 2 chipped keys for my Ford Fusion. This place has been recommended to me several times, was happy they could help me. Saved at least 150 dollars and probably several hours by not going to the dealer. FYI my key transponder died and the car security system no longer recognized the key. If this happens to you, the car security light flashes fast giving you the clue the key will not work. read more

The waiting area was very clean and I was pleased with the entertainment on the TV since I had brought my young children with me. The service was good - they were quick to respond when I wakes in the door and told me it would take about 30 mins and they would need access to my car to make 2 copies of my special van key. It was just about 30 mins when he was done and I appreciated the accurate estimate. He had previously quoted me the amount and when he rang me up told me the total included tax, so I didn't think anything of the extra charge. It wasn't until over a week later that I realized I had been overcharged. So I called up Mr. Keyman and asked what the total should have been. Within 5 minutes I received a call back and with 45 minutes a return had been processed for the amount I was accidentally overcharged. Every company makes mistakes and I was so pleased at the speed they corrected this one! I will definitely return when I need new keys made. read more

The insanity started with my wallet and keys being stolen at Trader Joe's. Knowing that my ID, and credit cards, etc were gone, I knew I needed to change locks on both car and doors. Walked in to this shop as it was closing. I asked if a key could be made for my motorcycle pannier and handed over one of the locks. He went right to work making my key. The lock was being difficult and he checked and lubed the lock, cut a second key and third key trying to get it just right. In a few minutes he handed me two working keys. I handed him my credit card but he had already shut down the credit card machine. My lock, keys, and credit card were handed to me with a, "catch me next time." I would like to recommend Mr. Keyman to anyone having the need of a locksmith that is competent and whose fees come second to its desire to help persons solve their problems, and particularly thank John DeLapa in solving mine without a fee. I had a problem with two locks; one was to the front door of my house that would not lock. I called several locksmiths in my area of Oceanside, CA. They all quoted rather substantial service fees just to come out. Been there twice. The first time, we needed three separate keys duplicated... the guy behind the counter had great difficulty in identifying any of them, and as a result we were there for a very long time. He was friendly enough, he just was rather unsure of how to translate one manufacturer's key blanks into the stock they had on hand. (btw, as an FYI: the keys were not cheap - two of the three were $6 apiece, while one was a more reasonable $3.) Here's the kicker, though. I went there again today, to get another copy of the least expensive of the three keys. The first problem was finding the store closed at 2:45 - a hand lettered sign implied they were out to lunch... but as I was leaving, the sign was removed and the door unlocked. Great - so I went in and got my key made. All went well until I got the bill... this time I was charged $6 for a key that cost $3 two months ago (I checked my previous receipt when I got home to make sure - we had kept it to have a record of Mr. Keyman's stock numbers should we ever need more of those keys made) When I questioned the price, I received no answer, I was just asked to pay and then handed the receipt and the key. Two different reasons, but we had two less than stellar customer service experiences out of two visits. Based on that, sorry to say, I just can't justify recommending these guys to anyone. read more

I accidentally got locked out of my bedroom, and the windows were shut too - so I called them up and John came out within 30 minutes and had the door open, made me two keys, and while he was here had him make a key for my front door. My car was a fickle B and it took him over 4.5 hours to get my car re-keyed but this guy delivered even though he had to stay with the vehicle till past 9pm when he showed up at 4:45. His machine and my car did not want to cooperate so what does he do? He drove 20 miles to get a different machine and 45 min later got me on the road. He is an extremely patient and humble person, while he was with me he got several calls from his wife( hope she kept your dinner for you) who was not please with him being out so late but his response was, and I quote, " I cannot leave him stranded and I'm sorry but this is his only car, I will be home as soon as possible". Fast and Thorough. After a health emergency, the police locked ( secured) everything up in my 86 year old mom's rental. They did an awesome job but we could not find the keys to the garage! Unfortunately, my mother passed away and I needed to move her things out quickly.
