    Chicken Katsu
    Kat D.

chicken katsu is fresh, crispy and the salad is to die for. i went for the first time back in 2020 when i was in el co, back when they even had different packaging for the lunch it was a styrofoam box! 6 years later the same plate i always ordered is just as good as i remembered w better container, so much sturdier to eat on the go! i haven't had this chicken katsu since 2020 and have had it in my bucket list to get it again, finally got to have it again and im satisfied! just sucks they close at 3pm and are only open weekdays cause the only time i can ever get food from here is when i have a day off work lol!

Solid lunch spot located right across el Camino college! It's tucked away next to Gigis pizza with parking next to it. There's some tables inside and outside. It felt super homey inside and had big pictures of menu items with really reasonable prices. We got: Salmon poke bowl with ponzu (5/5) big portions and came with plenty of salad and rice. Salmon roll (5/5) cooked salmon with California roll. really yummy Beef kimbap (4/5) beef was a bit dry but nicely packed and tasted clean Shrimp unagi roll (5/5) I would get less sauce next time but tempura was fresh Service was friendly and efficient, We'll be back!

I was craving Poke for lunch. I decided to do a quick google search and found this place nearby! I phoned ahead and placed an order. They told me it was about a 15-30 minute wait because they were running a bit behind on orders. I appreciated the transparency. I waited about 40 minutes before I drove down there. It's a small hole-in-the-wall. It can be easy to miss as well. You can park against the wall next to GiGi's or towards the back. When you go inside, it's fairly small with about 4 tables. I recommend taking your phone to-go. I paid $15 for my order of one spam musubi and a spicy tuna poke bowl. I am a big poke fan and really enjoyed this bowl. What makes it special is that they include both rice and salad on the bowl instead of having to choose either just rice or salad. They package the rice separately which has a nice touch. I love how they pile on the seaweed and avocado. They put the salad on the bottom of the bowl. The spam musubi was decent. Nothing too special. My thoughts are that this is a good lil' Japanese place worth checking out near El Camino College. Definitely order ahead especially during the lunch rush. I will be back!

4 pieces of Salmon Nigiri is now $18 at a Sushi Restaurant. Here this whole playe was $18. You are getting 3x the sushi for way less than any sushi restaurant. It is good quality sushi at a great price, you can't go wrong.

Passed by this little place by El Camino College a bunch of times and was curious to see what they served. Happy it popped up on my Door Dash so decided to try it out. The menu consists of Korean and Fusion type dishes. Some Japanese and some Asian. I know there are a lot of places like this in Hawaii, so curious to know if the owners are from Hawaii. I noticed the prices are very reasonable even on the delivery apps. Ordered the Beef Kimbap, Shrimp Tempura roll, and a spam Musubi. Any other place this would be $30+, with tip came out to be about $23. Not bad. Rolls were good and Spam musubi was decent but missing something and fell apart. Everything i ate here tasted fresh and homemade like someone's Mom made it. Would def order again to try the other dishes.

This place used to be Wasabi Sushiya and is located across the street from El Camino College. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building and I don't believe you can park on the street. There menu spans from spam musubi, to different types of sushi rolls, to rice bowls, poke bowls, bibimbap, ramen, udon, and two different lunch box sets. At the time of this review prices range from $3 to $14! I got their Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl for $8 along with their Kimbap (6 pieces for $4). Their poke bowl came with lettuce, rice, ripe and yummy avocado, green seaweed salad and red ginger. The tuna was not cubed, but mashed with seasonings in it. I can't describe it actually, it was just spicy and good haha. Their bowls come with different sauces - I got the spicy mayo but I think there was also a ponzu one. If you like spice, this is for you. There's a nice balance in this bowl of fat, protein, carb, and flavor. I don't feel heavy after eating this and I believe the price is reasonable. The person taking your order will ask if you want shoyu, wasabi and ginger (I asked for all three) when you order the House Kimbap. This Kimbap has carrots, cucumber, danmuji (or takuan ;]), and eggs inside. There's a slight sweetness to it that I haven't tasted in other Kimbap around, but otherwise, its pretty standard. If you eat it together with the Poke though, it becomes really good. I could also see this being good with their Spicy Rice Cake meal (you dip it in the soup base!). Overall, it seems like the torch and taste of Wasabi Sushiya was passed on to someone who is invested in making good food while keeping food prices reasonable. I look forward to Friday lunches here from now on.

Let me tell you, the food here be so good. As a college student, I need something to fuel me up, with energy. Mr. H has the beeeest food, Japanese and Korean. I always go for the kimbap, I prefer that over sushi. The workers there are nice and provide excellent service. I recommend people to go here, cause the food, is just that delicious!!!

Outstanding bibimbap for lunch. Super tasty, big portion, great price. I took the picture after digging into it already, it looked so yummy.

Amazing price, taste, and location! This new restaurant serves authentic Japanese-Korean food at a low price. Each poke bowl was only $8 and included a lot of fish and avocado. Located right across from El Cam, you will see many students making their way to this shop. A buzzer is given to pick up your food and lunch rush is generally a 15-25 minute wait for food. This is my new local go to comfort food spot at a good price.

KenScale: 8.5/10 Visit: December 2025…read more Before we headed off to Los Angeles, my wife Jun and I debated where to take out our longtime friend and her husband the night before our trip together to the Santa Barbara wine country. We knew her friend loves sushi but it also happened that we had visited Sushi Sho in New York in the fall that we were afraid we might be too spoiled to enjoy another sushi restaurant. At the end, we decided to focus on treating our friend and booked a reservation to Sushi Sonagi, located inside a strip mall in Gardena outside LA. At the end of the night, Jun and I were surprised just how much we loved our experience at this sushi restaurant. The chef Daniel Son, a second-generation chef, is in charge of all of the dishes at Sushi Sonagi, which has a single counter table with two shifts per night. What really stood out about the omakase at Sushi Sonagi (the menu costs $250 per person) is chef Daniel's openness to experimenting with ingredients not typically used at a sushi restaurant, as well as the overall balance in flavor of all the dishes. The opening dishes featured a super delicious chawanmushi with snow crab and (unexpectedly) sweet corn. The fried green eyes fish was also another delightful item on the course, as well the mackerel sandwich that Jun really enjoyed even though mackerel is not her favorite fish. My two favorite dishes before the nigiri section were the black abalone (sourced from Korea's Jeju Island) with liver sauce - this is one delicacy that I won't stop thinking about for a while - and monkfish liver (which had a bit of wasabi on top to a surprising effect) that would've held its own against ankimo at other top-end sushi restaurants. The nigiris coming from chef Daniel's magical touch were also of consistently high quality; Jun and I were especially impressed with how each piece wasn't overly seasoned to maximize the texture of the fish. Some of the standout pieces wowed us with ingredients we had not encountered before, like the baby green onions that complemented beautifully with spotted skipjack tuna, or the seared flounder fin that was exceptional for its textural complexity. I certainly don't recall having many langoustine nigiri at sushi restaurants before, and after chef Daniel brought one (from New Zealand) with wonderfully crunchy texture, I wondered why other sushi restaurants don't try this ingredient more often. After a few more nigiri pieces and an aromatic soup of tofu, yuzu and chrysanthemum came the highlight of our dinner, a stone pot rice with female snow crab inside. The rice umami of this rice dish was so irresistible that even though I was pretty full by then, I felt compelled to ask for a second bowl. Even the tamago from Sushi Sonagi is not an ordinary egg custard, with miso butter that added an entirely different dimension to the dish. Getting a reservation at Sushi Sonagi, given its popularity in the LA dining scene and also limited seatings (the restaurant is only open Thursday through Saturday), will definitely require advance planning (plus $200 deposit per person, which will be fully refunded on the reservation day). Given that the reservation window opens 30 days prior at midnight Pacific Time, I was afraid I might miss the window but if you are able to wake up early Eastern Time the next day, most likely you will be able to snag a table. The modest and cozy setting of the counter gives a warm neighborhood restaurant vibe that belies the very high quality of dishes coming out of chef Daniel's hands. The restaurant does have a decent number of sakes and some limited wines on the beverage list; it also allows corkage for a fairly modest price of $45 / wine bottle so I brought a couple of champagnes from a wine shop in LA (I highly recommend Thatcher's Wine in Brentwood) to take advantage of the policy. At the end of the meal, we chatted for a bit with chef Daniel, who is a truly nice person that simply enjoys what he does and is eager to continue to improve upon his craft. I am so glad that there are still sushi restaurants out there that can wow us with an exceptional omakase meal and would gladly be back to visit Sushi Sonagi next time we are in LA.

The sea urchin was some of the best I've ever had. The only one that disappointed me a bit was the hand roll. It wasn't bad but didn't match the level of the other sushi I ordered.
