On my way to visit my Dad's grave site on what would've been his 85th birthday, I always liked to "shared" a meal with him of some of his favorite foods (in this case an apple fritter and a boba drink), so I pulled into Mr. Good's Donuts and hoped they had these items. Thankfully, they did (I've learned apple fritters often are not available past the afternoon time), so I ordered those as well as some additional favorites of mine. Plenty of natural lighting came through the front glass wall and door while soul-sucking electric fluorescent ceiling lights covered the rest. There were no TVs nor any background music; it was very quiet. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Mr. Good's Donuts was good enough to warrant another visit should the circumstances presented themselves, but I wouldn't go out of my way. For a better apple fritter experience a morning visit would be needed. As with most donut shops now, they are also sold coffee/tea, sandwiches, smoothies, and a smattering of other snacks. The service was great and always a pleasure to support a mom & pop small business. You can tell these folks work hard to produce quality food at low prices. I got 4 donuts and a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel for around $10 before tip. I preferred the BEC to the donuts but the donuts were good, too. Surprisingly, I liked the glazed donut more than the Boston cream or jelly filled. This seems to be the go-to, down-to-earth donut spot because I drove by 3 other shops that were empty to find this one busy and bustling. This morning I was walking in the area and decided to finally try it out I bought a twisted sugared donut and 2 ham egg and cheese croissants. DELICIOUS! The donut was fresh and fluffy. When we arrived the business was about to close due to limited hours but the husband/wife team still accommodated me with coffee and two donuts! They were super friendly and nice to talk to. This stuff is made for the everyday blue collar common folk from around the way. If I'm craving for it (and that's typically in the morning), I pick up two different kinds: The plain Old-fashion cake dough - prepared in a shape of a ring with tapered edges (crunchy exterior preferably). And for her, the classic Sugar sprinkle (made nice and fluffy like a cloud - she says). It's been hit or miss the past couple of months, and after a short hiatus, I've noticed a difference in quality, possibly a change in ingredients and preparation. We hail from Brooklyn, where pretentious donuts shops abound. This place beats them hands down. You won't find exotic combinations, but what you get is a perfectly executed circle of heaven. The Great Glendale Donut Derby continues with Mr. Goods entering the fray. This unit is owned and donuted by a beautiful Chinese couple who know and appreciate that Donuts are an American phenomena. A phenomena that they obviously support with their experience and labors. i bought a dozen of mixed glazed and cake and they went quickly to the secret donut tasting society to which i belong. After tallying all the scores: we seem to unbelievably have a 3 way tie! So it's Mr Good, Fresh Donuts and Yum Yum in a dead heat. Bear in mind that all 3 are down home, non-fussy doughnut emporiums: no added bacon or strawberry glaze. nothing fancy. These businesses make doughnuts for the masses: doughnuts that you would grab and take to work to make it seem that you are cool and willing to shell out some bucks for your fellow slaves to the Man.
