I'm always on the hunt for a Piroshki, one of my favorite delights that I think originated in Russia and is East European by origin. I think Papillon is Armenian which I believe has European cuisine, as Armenia is considered geographically to be within Western Asia (the Middle East) and the South Caucasus region. Sitting within the mountainous Armenian Highland, it acts as a transcontinental bridge between Eastern Europe and Asia. Their Piroshki is long and thin, whereas I'm accustomed to them being robust short stocky and round almost resembling a giant baked potato in size and shape. So these look like a "Chinese Donut" a.k.a. Youtiao (油条) in size and shape, same girth but length maybe 6"-8" long. What I liked is the filling of the Beef was minced ground beef with sauteed onion bits mixed into a blend and seasoned with a bit of spice but overall was very moist and juicy and the fried dough was very good. So, I'd recommend that. Oddly, I tried the Beef and Potato reluctantly thinking the pure beef option was going to be better... and the Potato was soft and perfect so I'm thinking they're equally good depending on your mood. I tried the beef empanada, and it was very good, similar flavor of the beef empanada to the piroshki but not exactly the same, otherwise I might say the empanada is bigger and gives more protein of the ground beef. The desert shaped like a peach fruit was very good. It reminded me of Asian style deserts where they're not overly sweet and has a healthy refreshing taste more so than being too overwhelming with thick sugary creams. I found out they have multiple locations. It feels maybe the Armenian and Russian community in So Cal are more toward this area and The Valley, so I do have to take what could be a 60-90 minute journey to come here, and even longer of a commute to their other locations. I think they'd do well in the SBBC (South Bay Beach Cities) down South past Santa Monica but before Long Beach and Orange County. I'd recommend this place for the food and service. read more

I have been a customer here for years, since 2012. Never have I encountered a rude person such as Kristine or Kristina in my life. Maybe the owner should retrain her employees. No comment on their delicious food but customer service is absolutely 0/100. Dear Ella, please reconsider who you hire to be the face of your company. read more

Recommended by Armenian friends to try out this international bakery and it DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! Ponchik was really delicious, I don't know how else to say it. Freshly prepared and warm upon reception, loved the custard filling in particular and I strongly recommend everyone to try this at least once. We also got their perashki and it came out fresh and hot too. Total wait time was around 5-12 minutes read more

An old favorite - their ponchiks are close to malasadas, if you're trying to find an alternative. Ordered a Dulce de leche and custard, the custard wasn't as creamy as I thought it would be, but the Dulce de leche was good. Saw that they had a nacho cheese option for their empanadas and decided to order one - so glad I did! It was delicious! Will definitely order again. I ordered ahead of time to make pick-up easy and quick - highly recommend as the line is a little slow if placing an order in person. 8 out of 10 for me. Enjoy! read more

I was craving Russian piroshki, so did a Yelp search and found Papillon bakery as one of the top searches. I saw that they also had Armenian pizza which is something I haven't had in a long time. I went on a Saturday afternoon, I appreciated the friendly service as well as the fact that they don't bake your treats til you order it meaning it comes out fresh! The wait time took less than 10 minutes. I also ordered the custard ponchik due to all the great reviews and I'm so happy I did! The texture was incredibly soft and chewy - reminded me of a mochi donut! Overall, I spent about $13 including an orange juice which is an amazing great deal! read more

Pretty good ponchiks. If you never had ponchiks go with the custard one, that's the standard in my opinion. They are not like your regular custard donuts - way less sweet, they are filled then fried (as opposed to donuts that are first fried then filled), and they are always fried to order. I think of them as filled beignets. Their perashkis are good too, I prefer the potato kind. Remember to dip your perashkis in salt and red pepper. read more

Horrible customer service unless you are of the same culture. Doigh has significantly changed for the worse and the filling is skimpy and very pricey for dough. Likely won't be back or support due to this experience. read more

Papillon is a local SoCal bakery specializing in Armenian treats and other yummy goodies. Their sweet pastries are where they shine and their baklava is divine! Service is great - very friendly and helpful - and their vibes in their original Glendale location are cute and fun - it's all pink with giant flowers and butterflies on the walls! I really appreciated how they list the ingredients they use on a lot of their baked goods too. I've had this spot on my list for years and finally got to visit so we had to try a variety of sweet and savory treats. We tried three flavors of the sweet Armenian ponchiks (custard, raspberry, and Ferrero Rocher), two flavors of the savory perashkis (cheese and potato & beef), and definitely couldn't resist a tray of their homemade baklava! The baklava was the star for us - the flavor and texture was excellent - we loved it. It's a little pricey but worth it. They offer various tray sizes - we got a small one and it lasted the two of us for almost a week. They also had large trays of other sweet treats like halva and khurabia - this would be a great place to stop in for potlucks or family gatherings. Their sweet pastry ponchiks are fried with sweet fillings - similar to filled donuts but not as over-the-top sugary or greasy. The fillings had lovely flavors and textures and were very generous while also being an excellent ratio in proportion to the dough. And the Ferrero Rocher flavor even had a piece of its namesake candy inside! Unfortunately we weren't able to eat them all fresh so the dough was quite chewy - I really think these are things that should be eaten fresh right away. Same with the savory perashkis - we ate them much later in the day after reheating them and the dough was chewy. We enjoyed the flavors but really recommend eating these items fresh. They also have pastry cases full of fresh sweet or savory croissants and various sizes of napoleons that looked delicious! They have other interesting items on their menu like bread boats and Armenian pizzas too. They're located in a small shopping plaza about a block behind all the car dealerships - plenty of parking and easy to find. The lady that helped me was very patient and kind and I felt very welcome. I'll definitely be stopping by next time I'm getting my car worked on! read more

Love this Bakery they have great costumer service great food. The workers are very friendly and respectful.

Food is good, service is horrible. I placed an order online at 12:20pm for pickup at 1:00pm. Got here at 1pm and it's now 1:17pm and I'm still waiting. What's the point of taking orders and providing a ready time if it's not going to be ready. I understand mistakes happen, but a simple I apologize would have made a world of a difference. This is what happens when companies grow too quickly. They forget about the most important thing, customer service. Won't be back to this location for sure. read more

I am very disappointed with my order. Instead of putting my items in a proper box, they shipped it in a thin plastic bag, and the front of the bag was open when it arrived. This is especially unacceptable because it was food, and it did not feel safe or hygienic at all. Packaging and handling need to be taken much more seriously. I am very disappointed with my order. Picked up two large boxes of 30 mini ponchiks. One box of Nutella and one box of custard. It was made fresh to order so it was hot. This of course means there will be a bit of waiting. It'll be worth it at the end so be patient. You definitely don't want stale, and old ponchik. Nothing beats warm and fresh ponchik! Definitely recommend. read more

I really enjoy your bakery products, but I would like to raise a concern regarding service at the Hollywood location. I have noticed that elderly customers are sometimes given reheated items instead of fresh products, which is not appropriate. If this issue continues, I will not only return the items but also escalate this matter to management or the appropriate authority to ensure it is properly addressed. read more

Have been a loyal customer of Papillon Bakery since 2020, but today was absolutely outrageous. Unlike usual, I didn't have time to pick up my own order, so I had it delivered via Uber Eats--and what a total disaster! They couldn't even bother to put three items in proper packaging or seal the plastic bag! The packaging was pathetic, and when the Uber driver dropped it at my house, all the food could touch the floor! As you can see in my Ring camera I called the store to complain, and the woman on the phone dared to lie and say, "No, we sealed the container. And if it's only two or three items, we don't put them in any special packaging." I was utterly disgusted by their careless, lazy, and disrespectful behavior. Even worse, they didn't apologize for this awful mistake, nor did they offer a refund or a replacement something any proper business that respects its customers would do. Instead, they told me I was wrong and insisted that the plastic had been sealed. I even have photo proof of your lie! On top of that, every time, their donuts keep getting smaller and smaller, and the quality keeps going down. Their complete lack of professionalism and common sense is shocking. I will never, ever waste my money on this miserable excuse for a bakery again. Shame on the owner @ella_madatyan and her rude staff read more

Omg! Omg! I usually don't finish my food in one sitting, but right here is an exception. Lol I m seriously amazed by how delicious the spicy pork perashki was. I am so excited that I am writing this review after just finishing it. Firstly, it was very very fresh and hot. 2nd, the outside was so crispy. 3rd, the filling was extremely flavorful. It had just the right amount of spice to give you a little kick. Everything was well marinated. I can go on lol It was like the perfect breakfast for me. Can be a quick snack, too. The food is good, but their ponchiks keep getting smaller and smaller. They only have two employees handling so many orders, and they often can't keep up with the number of orders coming in. I love them! I always order here for sweet tooth cravings. This is a late review, I was here with my sister and 3 kids, I called beforehand to get 15 Nutella Ponchiks and as soon as we got there - they were all ready. Normally people would not stay for dine in - but the nice lady allowed us to stay and enjoyed their delicious dessert in store with kids! They have a long tall table and chairs (I guess for customers waiting) so we totally enjoyed our hot and fresh Ponchiks! They have other choices of breads - A LOT - that I am not sure of the name but my ultimate favorite is Ponchik! Yes I will say it multiple times. so.. Go get your Ponchiks and thank me later. Be sure to call them first so you don't wait. Parking is in front, can be difficult sometimes but street parkings are always available. By the way- Ponchiks are $3 something each. Papillon Review Maybe this place just isn't for me. Papillon has a reputation as a staple for confections and some savory treats, but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy anything I tried. The bread, which is the base for many of their offerings, had a very tough, chewy texture that made it difficult to bite into--almost like I had to yank it apart. Personally, I prefer bread that's fluffy, crispy, crunchy, or flaky, and this just didn't deliver. Here's what we ordered: * Mini Ponchik (6 pieces, $8.99): These were very small, but the bread was just as tough and chewy as everything else. I couldn't enjoy them at all. * Armenian Pizza: Essentially, this was like a thin tortilla topped with a dry, unremarkable sauce. There was nothing memorable about it. * Potato Perashki ($4.99): This was the biggest letdown. The flavor was completely lacking, and the texture was, again, that same tough, chewy bread. I couldn't even finish it. * Large Napoleon ($6.99): This was the one item that looked promising. It appeared crispy and flaky, which was a departure from everything else, but the texture ended up being stiff and stringy. The flavor was subtle and pleasant, but the texture still didn't work for me. Despite the variety of herbs and spices they seem to use, the food overall lacked flavor, and the textures were just off for my preferences. I wanted to like it, but this isn't a spot I'd return to. read more

I swear to God, I've never seen such terrible client service as here. I placed an order on Uber Eats only to find out upon arrival at the pickup location that this item is not available. They offered me a refund, but they didn't even cancel my order. They were very surprised that I arrived. The cashier didn't know that I needed to get a refund. The manager contacted me and offered to refund within 5 days or order something for the same amount. I placed an order for the same amount, and no one told me that I would have to wait 4 donuts for half an hour. Every time I asked, they said that my order is almost ready. The funniest thing is that a girl in front of me was waiting for one pie for more than half an hour. Before that, we all saw how they gave orders of 40-50 pieces, and it is very awful that a person who ordered one pie was not given it right away . you lost a regular customer, I will never come to you again. I hope you close down, because with such an attitude towards clients, you shouldn't work. Also, it was unbearably hot inside -- the air conditioning wasn't working for either the staff or the customers. I honestly think the products displayed could be spoiled because of the heat, especially considering they contain meat. That's just disgusting. read more

I came here when it was almost closing time so there weren't too many options left. The server was nice and friendly and explained what the different items were. I tried the following: 1) Cheese Roll - This was decent, but I think I like Porto's better. 2) Tulumba - This was my least favorite. The person working there told me this is like a donut, and although it was sweet, the flavor was a bit strange from what I was expecting. 3) Custard Ponchik - This was a nice treat; the custard was creamy and not too sweet. 4) Beef Perashki - This was my favorite; the beef was very warm and juicy. However, it took about 15 minutes to make fresh. I brought these home to eat so they may not have been in their freshest state. I would want to come back here during non-closing hours to try other things and also eat them when they're freshly made. read more

I haven't ordered from this place in years, and they continually send me text messages, with no way to stop them. We were in Glendale for a wedding and so didn't have a ton of time to explore (family wedding so there were lots of family obligations), but I really wanted to do a bakery crawl in Glendale Sunday morning before we headed to West LA and then north up the coast. We visited 7 bakeries - and Papillon might have been my absolute favorite. It's small but cute. The employee who assisted us was very friendly. But it's about the food, right? The beef perashki and custard ponchik took a few minutes - because they were either fried or heated up to order. They came out piping out and tasted so fresh. The beef perashki was possibly my single favorite bakery item we tried at any of the 7 bakeries we visited, and the custard ponchik was really good, too (but I'm more of a savory/salty girl). Just a great bakery. I'd absolutely love to return. read more
