Food is good, service is horrible. I placed an order online at 12:20pm for pickup at 1:00pm. Got here at 1pm and it's now 1:17pm and I'm still waiting. What's the point of taking orders and providing a ready time if it's not going to be ready. I understand mistakes happen, but a simple I apologize would have made a world of a difference. An old favorite - their ponchiks are close to malasadas, if you're trying to find an alternative. Ordered a Dulce de leche and custard, the custard wasn't as creamy as I thought it would be, but the Dulce de leche was good. Saw that they had a nacho cheese option for their empanadas and decided to order one - so glad I did! It was delicious! Will definitely order again. I was craving Russian piroshki, so did a Yelp search and found Papillon bakery as one of the top searches. I saw that they also had Armenian pizza which is something I haven't had in a long time. I went on a Saturday afternoon, I appreciated the friendly service as well as the fact that they don't bake your treats til you order it meaning it comes out fresh! The wait time took less than 10 minutes. I also ordered the custard ponchik due to all the great reviews and I'm so happy I did! Pretty good ponchiks. If you never had ponchiks go with the custard one, that's the standard in my opinion. They are not like your regular custard donuts - way less sweet, they are filled then fried (as opposed to donuts that are first fried then filled), and they are always fried to order. I think of them as filled beignets. Their perashkis are good too, I prefer the potato kind. Remember to dip your perashkis in salt and red pepper. read more

Papillon is a local SoCal bakery specializing in Armenian treats and other yummy goodies. Their sweet pastries are where they shine and their baklava is divine! Service is great - very friendly and helpful - and their vibes in their original Glendale location are cute and fun - it's all pink with giant flowers and butterflies on the walls! I really appreciated how they list the ingredients they use on a lot of their baked goods too. I've had this spot on my list for years and finally got to visit so we had to try a variety of sweet and savory treats. We tried three flavors of the sweet Armenian ponchiks (custard, raspberry, and Ferrero Rocher), two flavors of the savory perashkis (cheese and potato & beef), and definitely couldn't resist a tray of their homemade baklava! The baklava was the star for us - the flavor and texture was excellent - we loved it. It's a little pricey but worth it. They offer various tray sizes - we got a small one and it lasted the two of us for almost a week. They also had large trays of other sweet treats like halva and khurabia - this would be a great place to stop in for potlucks or family gatherings. Their sweet pastry ponchiks are fried with sweet fillings - similar to filled donuts but not as over-the-top sugary or greasy. The fillings had lovely flavors and textures and were very generous while also being an excellent ratio in proportion to the dough. And the Ferrero Rocher flavor even had a piece of its namesake candy inside! Unfortunately we weren't able to eat them all fresh so the dough was quite chewy - I really think these are things that should be eaten fresh right away. Same with the savory perashkis - we ate them much later in the day after reheating them and the dough was chewy. We enjoyed the flavors but really recommend eating these items fresh. They also have pastry cases full of fresh sweet or savory croissants and various sizes of napoleons that looked delicious! They have other interesting items on their menu like bread boats and Armenian pizzas too. They're located in a small shopping plaza about a block behind all the car dealerships - plenty of parking and easy to find. The lady that helped me was very patient and kind and I felt very welcome. I am very disappointed with my order. Instead of putting my items in a proper box, they shipped it in a thin plastic bag, and the front of the bag was open when it arrived. Picked up two large boxes of 30 mini ponchiks. One box of Nutella and one box of custard. It was made fresh to order so it was hot. This of course means there will be a bit of waiting. Have been a loyal customer of Papillon Bakery since 2020, but today was absolutely outrageous. Unlike usual, I didn't have time to pick up my own order, so I had it delivered via Uber Eats--and what a total disaster! They couldn't even bother to put three items in proper packaging or seal the plastic bag! The packaging was pathetic, and when the Uber driver dropped it at my house, all the food could touch the floor! As you can see in my Ring camera I called the store to complain, and the woman on the phone dared to lie and say, "No, we sealed the container. And if it's only two or three items, we don't put them in any special packaging." I was utterly disgusted by their careless, lazy, and disrespectful behavior. Even worse, they didn't apologize for this awful mistake, nor did they offer a refund or a replacement something any proper business that respects its customers would do. Instead, they told me I was wrong and insisted that the plastic had been sealed. I even have photo proof of your lie! On top of that, every time, their donuts keep getting smaller and smaller, and the quality keeps going down. Their complete lack of professionalism and common sense is shocking. I swear to God, I've never seen such terrible client service as here. I placed an order on Uber Eats only to find out upon arrival at the pickup location that this item is not available. They offered me a refund, but they didn't even cancel my order. They were very surprised that I arrived. The cashier didn't know that I needed to get a refund. The manager contacted me and offered to refund within 5 days or order something for the same amount. I placed an order for the same amount, and no one told me that I would have to wait 4 donuts for half an hour. Every time I asked, they said that my order is almost ready. The funniest thing is that a girl in front of me was waiting for one pie for more than half an hour. Before that, we all saw how they gave orders of 40-50 pieces, and it is very awful that a person who ordered one pie was not given it right away . you lost a regular customer, I will never come to you again. I hope you close down, because with such an attitude towards clients, you shouldn't work. Also, it was unbearably hot inside -- the air conditioning wasn't working for either the staff or the customers. Personally, I prefer bread that's fluffy, crispy, crunchy, or flaky, and this just didn't deliver. Here's what we ordered: * Mini Ponchik (6 pieces, $8.99): These were very small, but the bread was just as tough and chewy as everything else. I couldn't enjoy them at all. * Armenian Pizza: Essentially, this was like a thin tortilla topped with a dry, unremarkable sauce. There was nothing memorable about it. * Potato Perashki ($4.99): This was the biggest letdown. The flavor was completely lacking, and the texture was, again, that same tough, chewy bread. I couldn't even finish it. * Large Napoleon ($6.99): This was the one item that looked promising. It appeared crispy and flaky, which was a departure from everything else, but the texture ended up being stiff and stringy. This is a late review, I was here with my sister and 3 kids, I called beforehand to get 15 Nutella Ponchiks and as soon as we got there - they were all ready. They have a long tall table and chairs (I guess for customers waiting) so we totally enjoyed our hot and fresh Ponchiks! The worst ajarski I've ever had.. the dough was not tasty, the cheese was not melted i guess thats why the egg couldn't stay attached. I came here when it was almost closing time so there weren't too many options left. The server was nice and friendly and explained what the different items were. I tried the following: 1) Cheese Roll - This was decent, but I think I like Porto's better. 2) Tulumba - This was my least favorite. The person working there told me this is like a donut, and although it was sweet, the flavor was a bit strange from what I was expecting. 3) Custard Ponchik - This was a nice treat; the custard was creamy and not too sweet. 4) Beef Perashki - This was my favorite; the beef was very warm and juicy. However, it took about 15 minutes to make fresh. I brought these home to eat so they may not have been in their freshest state. We were in Glendale for a wedding and so didn't have a ton of time to explore (family wedding so there were lots of family obligations), but I really wanted to do a bakery crawl in Glendale Sunday morning before we headed to West LA and then north up the coast. We visited 7 bakeries - and Papillon might have been my absolute favorite. It's small but cute. The employee who assisted us was very friendly. But it's about the food, right? The beef perashki and custard ponchik took a few minutes - because they were either fried or heated up to order. They came out piping out and tasted so fresh. The beef perashki was possibly my single favorite bakery item we tried at any of the 7 bakeries we visited, and the custard ponchik was really good, too (but I'm more of a savory/salty girl). BOMB, should eat them hot if you are unable to, no problem, air fryer couple minutes and boom!! The Perashkis are always made with fresh ingredients and always made to order. First we make the dough, then we fill it in with fresh fillings. Papillion is a well known bakery among those in the San Fernando Valley to Glendale and Burbank, and everything in between. They offer many powdery baked goods, and are well known for their cakes. Their standout and must have is khachapuri/adjarakan (egg bread basket). This is a real joy to have and takes a bit of time to make. It is good for 2-4 people, depending on how hungry they may be. It is a mix of bread, cheese and egg in a very rich way. I would certainly come back here and see if there are options whether one could add items like tomato on top. Many people don't appreciate their demeanor or frank nature, but I've come to expect it by asking few questions and just giving them my order. I always like to call in my order, which usually gives them a 20 minutes head start. I also find parking to be pretty easy here, whether in their small lot or on the side street.
