Just can't thank Marie enough for the delicious small finger food catering Van Bakery prepared and delivered for our Red Carpet film screening on Saturday! The delicious berries and cream tarts were so fresh, and the cream puffs were huge and, in a word, delicious. For appetizers, the salmon lavish and turkey lavish cut rolls were so filling and so fresh. Way better than Costco with real lavish. Finally, the cheese filled puffs were also a delight, as were the nut covered halavah dessert bites. I have tasted and enjoyed their spinach stuffed and meat stuffed flakey puff pastries and they are scrumcious! The Van Bakery really deserves giving them a try for your holiday parties or event. I forgot the exact names of the pastries I purchased, but I'll try my best to describe them. First off, I was introduced to this place by my mother. She is beyond inlove with a cake called, the mother in law. Hehe cute name I thought. It consist of walnuts and poppy seeds. When momma told me about the ingredients and that it wasn't sweet, I thought .. Great it's one of those healthy and bland desserts. When I tried it I was surprised at how moist, delicious and not overpowering it was. $20!!! The individual pastries I purchased were about $1.50 ea.. A favorite of mine is the French Napoleon which consist of walnuts in custard within layers of phyllo dough. The original Napoleon has powder sugar over the top with a little less custard and no walnuts. It was ok. A little on the dry side. Caramel cake was very moist and not as sweet as I imagined it to be... Which was great!!! Broken pieces of phyllo dough on all sides with a Caramel design on top. Umm there was one more that I really enjoyed. I can't remember the name but it tasted and felt like a vanilla meringue. White pastry with a chocolate drizzle over the top. It was yummy!! I am in love with their Gourabiah cookies. You ask what is that?? Why it's the half moon shaped butter plentiful cookies with snowed on powered sugar. TRUST me they are so good. Their panna cotta & a few other cream custard desserts are pretty good too. Cookies are sold by the LB here & their Armenian style appetizers/ salads Their beet, sour cream, walnut salad is really good As well as the Salad Olivier& Eggplant Caviar(IKRA). No its not made with caviar & no fish eggs in it its just called that a mild roasted eggplant, multiple roasted peppers, tomato & onions dip or side. They also have Porto's cheese roll knock offs but they are sure good & you can really taste the cheese in them! Sometimes they have a savory basturma & cheese one yumm! I haven't been here in a while but I used to shop quite often here and loved their eclairs. My last visit was very disappointing though. The eclairs were average and nothing like they used to be before. Much smaller and hardly any custard inside. We could not eat the cheese boreks. Either the pastry was old or the cheese inside was old. It tasted off, like it was moldy or fermented, also nothing like the awesome cheese boreks I got there before. I'm glad I didn't get a chance to feed any to my toddler. I don't think I'll go here again. read more
