This is a no frills mom and pop shop with plenty of regulars and newbies. The staff are very friendly and work hard at getting people in and out. Classic dumpy strip mall donut shop. They sell lots of things beyond donuts and the donuts ain't that great. Granted, I went in the late afternoon but they were old and crusty and uninspired. They charge a fee for using a card. Donut and chocolate milk was six dollars. Is that normal? read more

Local donut spot that has been here foreverrrrrrrr. Way before the armenian businesses moved in. They have the best donuts hands down. They dont have the fancy schmancy $6 artisan donuts but the classics are the best. Ive tried donuts everywhere. Even across state lines. The only donuts that compare are Bosa donuts in arizona. Parking is limited but ive always lucked out. And yeah theres always a grandpa sitting in there scratching his lotto card or staring off into space w his lonely cup of coffee. Dont judge the ambience, just get the donuts. The elites that give less stars on here are just passing through and dont know much. read more

In a busy plaza and found parking right in front. In the middle of some Armenian restaurants. On corner of Chevy Chase and Broadway across from CVS. Nice lady and a few older guys were playing lotto inside. She Gave me 13 donuts in a bag and will return again. Fresh and yummy!!! read more

It is about what you would expect for a cheaper donut place. Definitely some odd vibes in the place, but it is probably just not my thing. The donuts themselves were ok, but this is not a place I'd get donuts from to bring to a party or something. But it did satisfy my craving for a donut. read more

Excellent value for the price. Fresh and great taste. Customer service on the other hand lacking as I wasn't greeted when I walked in even though the employee behind the counter saw me. When I approached the counter, again he saw me but was just standing there ignoring me until I spoke. I also did not like that when I was pleasantly surprised and thanked him for my order he made it a point to tell me he didn't do anything special for me, everyone gets the same thing (rude.) I can't be grateful? and say thank you and be pleasant? I am my own person and everyone isn't the same. Anyway, they should work on the customer service. 10 out of 10 times I prefer going to a mom and pop owned donut shop over a chain. Not only that, this one seems to be open 24 hours! The latest I've been is around 10pm. The staff are super friendly and can definitely tell that they're putting in the work. Donuts: Solid classic donuts! They also do a blueberry cake with a cinnamon sugar coating that I haven't seen before that is a nice change of pace. The donuts don't have an overly old oil taste, even when I eat them the next day. Parking: A pretty large shared lot. Since there are several active other stores in the strip mall, sometimes the spots are all taken. There's also free street parking if you're really desperate. read more

Felt a bit dirty walking in. The large group of guys smoking cigarettes in front of the open door did not improve this feeling. Then the 1980s-office fluorescent lighting had all the interior (including the donuts) looking drab and unappealing. The nice young lady behind the counter was quite helpful and friendly however and this made for a better experience. Thankfully the donuts didn't taste like cigarettes. Unfortunately they do taste a bit like tooth-decay & sadness. Best to come here if you need lotto tickets or you wish to raise the ire of your coworkers. read more

Great service, girl behind the counter was very nice and accommodating. Donuts smell and taste fresh! Most other donut places only take cash and never have fully stocked shelves of donuts - big Jim's had fully stocked fresh donuts, lots of variety and took debit card which I love! Great donuts, but beware not covid friendly. I showed up this morning and noticed a woman walking from the kitchen with a tray of fresh donuts. No mask. She came back out 2 minutes later, chewing something in her mouth, again, no mask. The other woman who helped me wore gloves and mask. She used tongs with her gloves to get my food. Your average mom and pop owned donut shop. Shops like these will always beat a chain shop any day. I com here every now and then to grab a chocolate chip roll or a bear claw. The maple bars are nice and fluffy too. Staff is always very nice when I come to visit. Occasionally they'll toss in an extra donut. Definitely one of my favorite donut stops. read more

The buttermilk and maple donuts are incredible here to sprinkle and glazed are pretty basic but still executed pretty amazingly. I normally am not about small mom and pop donut shops around this area but this is actually a pretty good one. Also this place is open 24 hours a day every day so that's another good plus. Poor customer service and inconsistency. I went in Tuesday and was served by someone else, a bagel with cream cheese. Great service. Today, the lady there wanted to charge me for packets of cream cheese. I asked about the service I had gotten before and she gave me a hard time. How are all of your employees not trained to provide CONSISTENT service? Just poor service, bad management, incompetent and rude staff. I'm always on the hunt for a Piroshki, one of my favorite delights that I think originated in…read moreRussia and is East European by origin. I think Papillon is Armenian which I believe has European cuisine, as Armenia is considered geographically to be within Western Asia (the Middle East) and the South Caucasus region. Sitting within the mountainous Armenian Highland, it acts as a transcontinental bridge between Eastern Europe and Asia. Their Piroshki is long and thin, whereas I'm accustomed to them being robust short stocky and round almost resembling a giant baked potato in size and shape. So these look like a "Chinese Donut" a.k.a. Youtiao (油条) in size and shape, same girth but length maybe 6"-8" long. What I liked is the filling of the Beef was minced ground beef with sauteed onion bits mixed into a blend and seasoned with a bit of spice but overall was very moist and juicy and the fried dough was very good. So, I'd recommend that. Oddly, I tried the Beef and Potato reluctantly thinking the pure beef option was going to be better... and the Potato was soft and perfect so I'm thinking they're equally good depending on your mood. I tried the beef empanada, and it was very good, similar flavor of the beef empanada to the piroshki but not exactly the same, otherwise I might say the empanada is bigger and gives more protein of the ground beef. The desert shaped like a peach fruit was very good. It reminded me of Asian style deserts where they're not overly sweet and has a healthy refreshing taste more so than being too overwhelming with thick sugary creams. I found out they have multiple locations. It feels maybe the Armenian and Russian community in So Cal are more toward this area and The Valley, so I do have to take what could be a 60-90 minute journey to come here, and even longer of a commute to their other locations. I think they'd do well in the SBBC (South Bay Beach Cities) down South past Santa Monica but before Long Beach and Orange County. I'd recommend this place for the food and service.

And there's a city public parking lot about a two minute walk away. Staff is very friendly, professional, and welcoming. Staff maintained a bright smile throughout my visit. Staff immediately helped me. Customers can order at the self-service kiosk or counter; however, the kiosk felt very dated & the prices on the kiosk felt less transparent. I recommend just ordering at the counter. There's no penalty for using card at this donut establishment. As mentioned, I love the Tiramisu Donut ($4.95). It's not too sweet; rather, it all felt balanced. However, this is a VERY messy donut; I recommend eating this donut with a fork and knife. The powder fall everywhere, and your clothes can quickly get stained with chocolate powder. Still, it's a delicious pastry. On ambiance, Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) is comfortable. This business is more reminiscent of a cafe than a typical donut shop. There's customer internet with password; details on the counter. There's a gender neutral restroom. And there's an electrical outlet & outlet adaptor for devices. The location is fairly small; there's one interior table and one small counter. Fortunately, this place felt airy and well-ventilated. There's also some upbeat, fun music in this clean spot. Overall, I found unexpected joy at Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel). There's sincere passion & hard work within these walls. If searching for a special donut for a special someone, this is an easy spot to recommend. 4.9 out of 5! Go!

I got hints of the caramelized sugar but was a little sad that more of the banana flavor didn't shine through, even with the banana foam! I got the mango sticky rice matcha for my husband which he enjoyed but he also lamented in desiring a stronger matcha flavor. Despite this, I still thought that overall the drinks were tasty and I would return to try their other offerings!

My mom brought up it being my birthday and the server said happy birthday. There weren't any birthday food or discounts. It was bright inside, the windows were floor to ceiling I think or as big as half the room in length. There were at least a few tables inside and some customers were eating lunch.

The glaze donut and the donut holes are oh sooo good. I don't know why it is so addicting but I end up ordering from them at least 4 times a month. I can eat a minimum of 8 donut holes at a time. They also have combos with a sandwich, a coffee and a donut for a great price. The coffee has the perfect strength for me. I often get my coffee with a hint of syrup and some milk. read more

I've been going here since I was a kid. Pretty good donuts, not the best. Really nice people and great service. If you stop by at night you'll usually find the same 5-6 creepy dudes outside just and laughing and playing scratchers. Sucks that they don't take credit cards. read more

The prices were really reasonable but the donuts we purchased were super old. I thought that donuts place make donuts fresh daily but these donuts taste like they were over a few days old. They were really hard and crusty. read more

This place has the best donuts around this area. I take a box for work at least 4-5 times a month and everyone always loves the donuts. Always fresh and doesnt fell like theyre fatty. Def worth to stop by. read more
