We were delighted when this location opened, because we'd fallen in love with their donuts in Del Mar. Sadly, this spot's star is fading and it no longer lives up to the hype or premium prices. While some donuts are indeed delicious, others are not even as good as one of the many mom and pop hole in the wall places. Customer service is also uneven; some employees are friendly but others are impatient, curt, and seem to not like donuts or people. In addition to the hit or miss food and service, the outdoor patio (the only available seating) is always dirty, and the small parking lot can be surprisingly challenging. Overall, it's worth at least one visit, especially if you're from out of town and want to try our upscale donut scene. Although it's more than I usually pay for donuts, I wanted to try these donuts just for the experience. Later in the day, I tried the old tashioned, which was super heavy in weight and seemed to fill me up on my first bite. I would say these donuts are the opposite of Krispy Cream and have worth their weight in dough. Service was just average, but the line flowed fairly quickly. Ok, my favorite doughnut store making its debut in the 626! Was so excited to see Sidecar pop up in Pasadena - I used to drive to Costa Mesa and Fairfax just to get my hands on these doughnuts!! Although the location isn't the best, you can easily find street parking and walk over - or you can park in the tiny lot shared with Howlin' Rays if you are lucky. Doughnuts are always baked fresh, love that they are constantly changing, pairing up with other places, and having new cream top doughnuts for me to try. Overall, workers have been relatively friendly. Love my staples - but also a huge fan of their blueberry, lemon, celebration. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. By far, Sidecar's huckleberry is the best donut I've eaten in my whole life. Their donuts are so elevated, aesthetic and tasty. Why huckberry?? Not too sweet. Somehow I think I'm more of a regular at this donut shop than anywhere else (except maybe coffee). I was so happy when they opened in Pasadena cause I wanted it, but absolutely did not want to drive to Santa Monica for donuts. Overall, I love their raised donuts and don't like the cake donuts as much. Some have been good (pumpkin cheesecake and huckleberry), others have been meh and have kind of the same flavor across... flavors (jalapeño cornbread). Most of the ones I've tried I like a lot with only a few being mid or outright awful (only the Dubai chocolate). The eggs benedict donut is a masterpiece, with a perfectly runny egg inside the fried dough puff. The maple pecan limited was really delicious, one of my favorite sweet donuts from Sidecar. Service is good and I even received a voucher for a couple free donuts when the ones I wanted were out. The best is catching a fresh, hot batch. I've been trying avoid sugar, but I got tempted to peek a look at the vegan offering today. They have one vegan option and today it was a strawberry matcha cake donut. I tried to resist, being my indecisive and squirrelly self, and slowly tried to leave the store. Then Levi, the donut angel, just gave me one to try. I was caught off guard by her generosity and kindness, but gratefully took the donut. After all, it's not everyday people give you free donuts. I took one bite, just to taste it, but in a few minutes the whole thing vanished into by belly. It was amazing. Not too sweet, moist inside, frosty strawberry-glazed outside, matcha-y perfection. Came here for the sidecar X Prince street collab! That NAUGHTY PUFF caught my attention since the naughty pizza is my favorite. OVERALL it was fun to try but mostly I think I'd rather just get the pizza. HOWEVER, the donut puff portion was delicious. Ever since side car came on the scene I'd like to say around 10 years ago they have filled the gourmet donuts. I would also say that they are still my number one personal donut shop. Yeah you pay anywhere from 3 to almost 6 dollars each but the quality and taste can't be beat. The Pasadena location is the newest location for the city that has the best of everything food, only right the best donut shop comes to town. This location is right next to howlin rays which is another hyped food spot, thought the lines at sidecar are minimal. My favorite donuts that are served regularly are the huckleberry which is the one donut you try if you're really trying to see what side car is all about. Other favs are the Saigon cinnamon, cookies & cream, strawberry buttermilk and vanilla bean glazed. The vanilla bean glazed is just like your traditional glazed donut, but just a little bit more fancier and better tasting. I usually try a seasonal donut each time which I would like to say changes every two months. If your new to side car get the app, because chances are your first visit won't be your last. Lastly sidecar has the best coffee for a donut shop. Pasadena has a lot of great coffee but the coffee here is good enough that I can make one stop instead of having to make a separate stop for coffee. read more

We usually visit the Santa Monica location and the staff there is always friendly and attentive, which made this experience in Pasadena even more concerning. They were running low on donuts after lunch so don't wait too long. Lychee lemonade: one of their new seasonal drinks that was real tart lemonade. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with the experience at this location. I placed a pickup order at 2:39 PM for 2 Blueberry Cheesecake doughnuts and 1 Golden Hour, and the app said the order would be ready by 3:09 PM. I arrived at 3:19 PM expecting it to be waiting for pickup, only to be told it wasn't even close to ready. The employee at the front casually told us it would be another 15 minutes because the blueberry cheesecake topping still wasn't prepared. We decided to wait patiently, even though the order was already late. After standing around for another 20 minutes watching them finish garnishing the doughnuts, we were then told it would be ANOTHER 10-15 minutes because the Golden Hour doughnuts had "just come out" and still needed icing and toppings. By then it was already around 3:40 PM -- over 30 minutes past the promised pickup time and more than an hour after placing the order -- and we had no choice but to swap out the Golden Hour for something that was actually ready because we couldn't keep waiting indefinitely. We ended up receiving a Huckleberry instead, which was $2 cheaper than what we originally ordered, and we weren't even offered or asked if we wanted the price difference refunded. The most frustrating part was the complete lack of urgency, communication, or basic customer service. Not once did anyone apologize for the delay or show any sympathy for wasting our time. It honestly felt like they didn't care at all. If they had simply been honest about the actual wait time from the start, the situation would have been far less frustrating. Instead, we were repeatedly told "just a few more minutes" while the order clearly hadn't even been started properly. Overall, a very disappointing experience, and unfortunately we will not be returning to this location. read more

Today, we decided to finally pop in and try a doughnut or two (or five). We tried the Saigon Cinnamon Crumb, Huckleberry, Passion Fruit Pavlova, Old Fashion, and Choc-A-Lot. We also tried a Cinnamon Roll that they only serve on Wednesdays. The Saigon Cinnamon Crumb and the Passion Fruit Pavlova were absolutely delicious! My husband also really liked the Cinnamon Roll. Honestly, the only one that wasn't that great was the Choc-A-Lot. It kinda tasted more like chocolate bread than a doughnut.
