    Hibachi Steak Lunch Special
    Frank T.

This is by far my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Albany area. Why? Because of the following: 1.) Always fresh dishes and ingredients. 2.) Unbelievable deals especially at lunch. 2.) No frills low key quiet little area. All the great Japanese dishes including tatsu-age fried chicken. Hard to find establishments that can do this chicken like they do in Japan. Plus their sweet mayo dipping sauce is out of this world. All this at a great price. Their lunch specials are such a great deal and so much yummy food. My fav Japanese food stop.

I will be honest .. I took a star away because when I came in and asked about Mash Co (student discount ) The guy said yes and it was 15% off... Then when I went to pay, he said "We don't have it anymore".... LIKE WTF! Moving on .. The food was good, if I was a chicken lover, I probably would have loved it. However, I just wanted to try it because I saw it in many animes ‍ . Overall It wasn't the greatest like "Food Wars" (anime reference). Um but I'll try the sushi one day I guess ‍

Sushi is always fresh and very good. Have not ever eaten inside, but do takeout every few weeks or so.

First visit. Take out. Food was very good. They make you scan a QR code for take out, when the physical menu is right in front of you. Not a fan of that system.

The sushi was very good at Mr. Fuji. We settled on the "Boat for Two" because the individual roll price was a bit higher than most sushi restaurants. This meal came with a good amount of food. Came with 2 soups and 2 salads, which we upgraded to kani salad. The kani salad was very good. Sushi and sashimi was fresh and in a good variety. We would go back! Environment was clean, quiet, and well staffed.

I stopped at this restaurant in an upscale outdoor mall for lunch a couple of months ago, but didn't complete a Yelp review. Today's late lunch on a Saturday (no lunch specials) was just hours before a giant snowstorm - but there were still a dozen guests. But I was quickly seated at the sushi bar (photo) in this brightly lit, modern designed space without background music or obnoxious televisions. Strange, I didn't notice the second floor seating on my previous visit - I must have been distracted by the real hashi and the three friendly chefs behind the bar. The chef nearest me recommended the toro and uni (both market price) as soon as he saw me look over to the specials chalk board. Although I have eaten here before, I decided to avoid any of their fancy signature rolls and just order my usual tea, soup, simple maki and handful of nigiri, if only to make comparison with the other restaurants visits easier. But I'll try the toro and the uni. I was not that disappointed, but I was hoping for the higher fat content of otoro, not chutoro. My fault, I should have asked first. I was first given a simple pleasant soup, and hot tea - so hot that I think the server should probably warn the guests to prevent burns. As I scanned the presentation cooler, waiting for my main, I noticed a plastic bowl in the presentation cooler filled to the top with different pre-cut strips of raw fish in front of the maki chef. Yes, I realize this does make his job easier. But I didn't see him use any of them for the dozen or so different maki he rolled while I sat at the bar. With three chefs on a slow day, I would like to think he probably could have cut each piece to order. For my main, I ordered an eel cucumber and spicy salmon maki, and eight nigiri (photo). The tamago, while simple, was excellent. The uni, chutoro and saba were very good, but unfortunately, none of the nigiri had any of the expected wasabi added under the fish. For the ikura, the texture of the roe was soggy - they didn't have that little "pop" you expect when you bite into really fresh, good quality fish eggs. The salmon maki was not very spicy, and the finely minced texture oozed out of the ends of the roll in a less-than-appetizing manner. Overall, the plating was pretty uneven, with the maki prepared by one chef, and the nigiri by another. In fairness, I should probably have expected less than perfect presentation - the chefs appear to have been hungry. After they served me and the two women seated next to me at the sushi bar, they deserted the bar and ran off to the far corner of the restaurant for their shift meal. I was thinking about that old adage about, "don't buy items manufactured on Monday morning or Friday afternoon." I was pleased to see a customer comment card presented next to my (relatively expensive) bill - the management is trying to improve, or at least, give the impression that it is. Despite a few small problems, I will most likely return soon. 2019 01 19. S26.

I got an avocado roll for an appetizer and clear soup. Both were good! The Hibachi does not come with soup or salad. They are add-ons. He was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have us there. You can teach people how to take an order, but you can't teach the kind of hospitality Jimmy has. He made the whole night feel special. We started with these awesome Japanese marble bubble sodas in the coolest glass bottles, which my son thought were the greatest thing ever. Then came our hibachi chef... and WOW. This guy was absolutely hilarious! Fire everywhere, incredible knife tricks, jokes the whole time, and he had us laughing nonstop. He started launching pieces of squash across the grill for us to catch in our mouths, and we all suck at catching things with our mouths He even squirted sake into everyone's mouths, and when it was my son's turn, he pulled out a baby bottle filled with a nonalcoholic drink so he could be part of the fun too. Such a thoughtful touch! To top it all off, he made my son an amazing balloon hat that he proudly wore the rest of the night. And the food... absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was delicious, the portions were generous, and honestly, the prices were very reasonable for everything you get. Just when we thought the night couldn't get any better, Jimmy surprised our son with fried ice cream and we all sang Happy Birthday. It was the perfect ending to a perfect night. If you're trying to decide where to celebrate a birthday, stop looking. Come here. Ask for Jimmy if you can, and if you get the hilarious hibachi chef we had, you're in for an unforgettable evening. Thank you for giving our son a birthday he'll be talking about for a long time. We'll definitely be back.

Upon entering, the girl behind the counter just stared at us. No greeting. No direction on where to sit. No smile. We assumed it was self seating so we found a booth. She came over, poured our waters, still said nothing. We had about 45 mins until the restaurant closed so I'm unsure of what the cold attitude was for, as there were still 4-5 other patrons there eating as well. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings, and I had the same but with meat. Once the plates arrived, the one set in front of me was green, and his not. I figured I would double check to make sure we had the correct ones - I didn't want him to end up eating the meat ones if it could be avoided. Sure enough, the plates were mixed up. Honestly seemed to be done purposefully because it's very clear they are 2 different orders. The texture was chewy/foamy and they also tasted like old grease. Disappointing but we still had soups to look forward to. Our ramen finally arrived and I was hoping it would be the redemption moment of the evening but it wasn't. It really lacked any depth of flavor. Again the meat was chewy instead of tender. More distracting was how we awkwardly felt rushed as the server was shutting off lights and music...again...with at least 15 mins until the kitchen closing time. She seemed annoyed we asked for to go containers. At no point did she check in with us, refill waters, or even crack any resemblance of a smile. I used to love this little spot when I was in college. It was cozy, delicious, inviting. Couldn't have had more of the opposite experience this time around! And for this reason I would not return. I will travel to Colonie for Kuma Ani for better food and MUCH better service. TLDR; this place is extremely overrated

No liquor license, so no sake, but lots and lots of bubble-tea. And almost no interaction with sushi chef (and no seating at sushi bar) - all orders are placed and paid for on one of two digital podiums. Oh, yeah. You are probably going to want to rub your waribashi together to break off any splinters or sharp edges. Not the best quality. Unfortunately, the food itself is also unremarkable. The sushi rice was very lightly seasoned. The nori wrap was so tiny on the nigiri tamago and unagi, there is no possibility that it could hold each piece together. Maybe the owner only allows the chef to use 1 sheet of nori each day. The ikura on the gunkenmaki didn't have that little "pop" when you bite on one, confirming the freshness. And the barely spicy salmon maki was partially minced salmon, with a bit too much non-salmon filler. I'm sure the college kids love this place. 2023 05 31. S14.

I usually like getting a "Salmon Lovers" from the place in Stuyvesant (Mr Fuji sushi) or Asian Tea House in Rensselaer. Asian tea house's salmon lovers is really good, but they are further away and it's like $28. Fuji sushi is more comparable in price to Oishi, but the salmon isn't as buttery and delicious. Pretty much every time I have ordered now from Oishi I'm extremely pleased with the salmon and have even tried a few more menu items. My husband loves the fried coconut shrimp on their app menu. The shrimp tempura roll is a bit overwhelming but also good. The salmon/avocado roll is also great.
