Delmar roll, special harvest roll (tempura sweet potato and pumpkin), takoyaki
Jinna L.

This is my second time here and it is still one of my favorites in the area. Small space but cozy and quiet if you are there for a late lunch/early dinner. The Tom yum soup had a perfect level of spice. My dining-mate didn't care for the faux-crab in hers but I didn't mind it. The takoyaki special appetizer was a very tasty and well fried bite. The rolls were truly great- good balance of ingredients and just enough sauce! The service was solid- our courses were well timed and they were attentive but not hovering. My red bean mochi was a nice finish to the meal! The amount of food we got for the price was also impressive. Highly recommend if you are in the area!

Sushi was quite solid for the area. We got the crunchy shrimp roll, shrimp tempura, Boston roll, healthy roll, and a California roll because I can currently only eat cooked rolls. While they were a bit on the smaller side and not super rice-heavy, I thought the ratio of rice to filling was appropriate and didn't find myself missing it. Everything tasted fresh and nothing tasted odd. The only con was that for 5 rolls, the restaurant only provided 3 packets of soy sauce which was really just not enough. However, I'd order again.

High quality sushi restaurant in downtown Albany. I ordered 3 rolls: Dragon roll ($12)- very tasty with eel and avocado; New York roll ($8)- really liked the inclusion of mango in here to give some unique sweetness; Salmon family roll ($15)- gotta get this if you're a fan of salmon as it has some spicy salmon inside with salmon and salmon roe on top I also ordered the Creme Brûlée and Berries for dessert ($7). The custard was not as smooth and creamy as it usually is for creme brûlée and it didn't have the normal torched sugar crust on top since the berries were on there. That being said, the assorted berries tasted fresh and sweet and went well with the savory custard. I thought the prices for the creme brûlée as well as the sushi maki rolls were pretty good. I came on a Sunday late afternoon and there were only a few others dining inside, so it was very quiet. There is lots of seating inside and also a parking lot conveniently right next to the restaurant. The staff were fairly friendly and the service speed was decent. Overall, I don't have many complaints about Shogun, and the reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because it didn't have anything particularly special about it and the environment was a bit too quiet and empty. Nevertheless, the sushi is definitely high quality and Shogun is certainly deserving of at least 4 stars. It should also be deserving of a visit from you if you are a fan of sushi.

This was the first place I ate at in Albany when I came for my interview (didn't know I'd be here for four years at the time) and I just forgot to review it all these years. Their sushi is surprisingly fresh for Albany and we've been ordering platters pretty often, especially during the past few months. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the special rolls, but sticking to regular sushi here is very safe and the best I've had in the region. I've also had their steak, curry, and some other dishes, which pale in comparison to the quality of the sushi, but nothing was terrible.

fresh, delicious, perfect sushi

We had the most delicious sushi here while in Albany. It was fresh, delicious and ready when we arrived. the owner was extremely friendly and accommodating and made a gluten free chicken dish for a family member who is gluten intolerant. We were impressed all around and will be back here again soon.

This is my favorite spot for lunch when working in Albany area! They provide excellent service, comfortable environment, and great and would like to have a busy representative in the middle of their workday. Alice & Lou are so helpful!

Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Spicy Yellowtail rolls to go. Total $20!

Driving aimlessly around Albany, with nothing else to do, I stumbled upon Shogun and immediately had a craving for a spicy tuna roll. How does one trust an unknown sushi place in an unfamiliar landlocked city? Start with a few rolls, then go from there. Starving, I took a quick look at the menu and ordered a Spicy Crunchy Tuna roll, Spicy Salmon roll, and Spicy Crunchy Yellowtail roll. The "crunchy" effect is made by adding bits of fried tempura batter to the spicy fish mash. Three rolls for less than $20! And a good amount of wasabi and ginger to boot. The spice added a kick but wasn't too outrageous, the crunch was minimal but effective. The rice was subtly sweet and didn't overpower the rolls. Overall, great rolls for an excellent price. Given the quality of the rolls, I'm definitely coming back to try the sashimi. On top of all this, there's free parking out back and the wait staff were really friendly -- Shogun is definitely worth a try!

First time here and I'm very impressed with the place. Shrimp tempura, tuna roll, pink lady, and masago.

Bestest cocktails in the lark street area. Also very great food. Accommodating staff and kitchen for food intolerances.

Pulling up, I'll admit--I was a bit confused. From the outside, it looked more like an old-school diner than a ramen spot. But at that point, we were committed (and not about to turn back toward NYC), so we decided to give it a shot. I'm really glad we did. The interior is no-frills and a bit tight for a family of five, but the staff made it work and got us settled comfortably. We started with edamame, which was perfectly seasoned, and shrimp and vegetable gyoza that the kids absolutely devoured. I also grabbed a Sapporo to wash it all down--solid start. Then came the main event. We ordered a mix: chicken ramen, beef stew ramen, two tonkotsu with double chashu, and a red curry ramen. The only dish that didn't quite stand out was the chicken ramen--it wasn't bad, just not as flavorful as the others. The tonkotsu ramen? Total hit. Both of my kids demolished their bowls--nothing left behind. My wife went all in on the beef stew ramen and loved it so much it sparked a debate at the table about how it stacks up against some Manhattan spots. And then there was my dish--the red curry ramen. Shoutout to our waitress for the recommendation. It had the perfect balance of salt, savory depth, and heat. The broth was this vibrant, bright red that just looked incredible--and tasted even better. Easily one of the top three ramen bowls I've ever had. I had my doubts walking in, but don't make that mistake. This place is a hidden gem. My only knock on the place is the table size for a family of five. Service was great. Now I need more excuses to come up to Albany just to visit this place!

Upon entering, the girl behind the counter just stared at us. No greeting. No direction on where to sit. No smile. We assumed it was self seating so we found a booth. She came over, poured our waters, still said nothing. We had about 45 mins until the restaurant closed so I'm unsure of what the cold attitude was for, as there were still 4-5 other patrons there eating as well. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings, and I had the same but with meat. Once the plates arrived, the one set in front of me was green, and his not. I figured I would double check to make sure we had the correct ones - I didn't want him to end up eating the meat ones if it could be avoided. Sure enough, the plates were mixed up. Honestly seemed to be done purposefully because it's very clear they are 2 different orders. The texture was chewy/foamy and they also tasted like old grease. Disappointing but we still had soups to look forward to. Our ramen finally arrived and I was hoping it would be the redemption moment of the evening but it wasn't. It really lacked any depth of flavor. Again the meat was chewy instead of tender. More distracting was how we awkwardly felt rushed as the server was shutting off lights and music...again...with at least 15 mins until the kitchen closing time. She seemed annoyed we asked for to go containers. At no point did she check in with us, refill waters, or even crack any resemblance of a smile. I used to love this little spot when I was in college. It was cozy, delicious, inviting. Couldn't have had more of the opposite experience this time around! And for this reason I would not return. I will travel to Colonie for Kuma Ani for better food and MUCH better service. TLDR; this place is extremely overrated

It's was quite slow, staff promptly greeted us, and we were able to secure a hibachi table and chef right away. Our hibachi chef was friendly and talented, but we couldn't understand anything he was saying because he had a mask on; hopefully he was well, or being cautious? Our server wasn't much for conversation, she was slow to refill drinks, and we had a mistake with our meal, that seemed like it would have been too much trouble to wave her down and have them fix. Four of us had Hibachi and Nancy ordered two sushi rolls. One of her rolls was a spicy tuna ($7.50) and the other was supposed to be a tempura fried shrimp roll instead of bringing out the tempura roll they brought her a California roll ($6.50). Not the end of the world but something to note. Both rolls were good but I would probably go with an upgraded roll (Chef Special) if I were to return. For some reason I always get The short end of the stick when I eat at a hibachi restaurant. Its like they always give me a ton of rice and give a 1/3 of my meat to everyone else. Same thing happened here. I ordered the steak and shrimp ($28.95) and my buddy next to me got a ton of shrimp and his kids got most of the steak. I think next time I do this I'm going to tell them to cook mine separately in butter so this can't happen again, so annoying. The hibach was good and our experience was overall good. I would come back again but I think I'll come with a better game plan if ordering hibachi.

I'll admit to having kind of written it off for a long time due to the weird menu/concept (it's hard to trust that a restaurant is going to serve you a burger, some empanadas and a plate of pad Thai and execute any or all of them competently), but the good people at Fusion are serving food that's truly, honestly about three times better than it needs to be (caveat: we've stuck to the more Asian sections of the menu, so I won't make any bold claims about the burgers). The Chinese portion of our family unit said that my drunken noodles reminded him of the stuff that a street vendor sold outside of his middle school, which like, IYKYK (if you don't know, this is about the highest praise a plate of noodles can get). I'm not normally a major pad Thai enthusiast, but the version here was well-balanced and flavorful, not just kind of sweet and gloppy like a lot of local versions, and the broth for the chicken noodle soup is also truly random-SE Asian-street-cart level flavorful. If that wasn't enough to sell you on this place, the draft Sapporo is five bucks. In conclusion: please come here support these nice folks so they can continue to make above-par food for many years to come.

I will admit at first I was a little nervous, the restaurant only had a total of four menus so we had to share, and we were told the bartender hadn't showed up that day. Nonetheless, I immediately got a good vibe from the guy working there. The menu had a Colombian section, a burger section and an Asian section. We all stuck with Asian dishes. It quickly became clear that the guy taking our order was the only one working. He got to work making the meals for six people. While he was cooking away, another large group of at least seven people arrived and sat themselves. You'd never know there was one guy doing everything all alone because the food was beautifully presented, all dishes were served together and man was it delicious! Everyone was very happy with their meals and we all got a variety of dishes. This is clearly a small business and definitely worth checking out. The one guy there was working so hard, but was so friendly and still attentive, despite manning the place alone. I will definitely be back to try out more
