Came here at lunch time on a Wednesday. Place was very busy. Lots of to-go, dine-in and food delivery orders. The empanadas are cooked to order. Expect a little wait to get your food. All the different empanadas we tried were delicious and not greasy. I will suggest the basic beef is the best. But the other flavors such as the sausage & cheese was a close second. I've never tried this business until I started babysitting my grandson. I walk him in his stroller and would pass by always wondering if it was good. I checked Yelp and they have rave reviews! Now I know why! The staff are lovely, the empanadas are delicious! They are cooked to order which is great. They offer several different kinds of empanadas. They have delicious salads as well. Y'all this place is so good! I have been thinking about it since I left. I was in Tampa for a conference and didn't have a big appetite but wanted to get a little something. I saw that this was just down the road from the hotel I was staying at and so I decided to check it out. It is in a small strip center. But there was plenty of parking in front of the location. It is what I would describe as fast casual. You go in place your order at the counter and then you can be seated and eat inside or you can get it to go. I ordered mine to go. I had the beef and cheese empanada and the guava and cream cheese empanada. The beef and cheese enchilada was so good! The crust was just perfect filling was warm and just incredible. I do not recommend eating this in the car as it can get messier than you would think. The guava and cream cheese empanada was also really good. I ate part of it rather quickly and saved the rest for later and it was still good later. This will definitely be a spot that I recommend to everyone visiting Tampa. read more

The dough was so good and crispy on the outside soft on the inside. The filling was Italian sausage in creamy sauce. He was not wrong we enjoyed a variety of options but the beef a cheese was by far our favorite. This particular location is a family owned location, the pride in ownership was so obvious. Last night in my household, there was a discussion about Mr. Empanada & not gone there for a long time. I was actually going to order from Doordash last night but there is cut off time. So, I went to Mr. Empanada after work today. In the restaurant, there is 2 guys working, one is the cashier/ order taker & the cook. I put my order in with cook & just hung watching TV. The cook made sure I had the right order. Both of the guys are really funny and friendly. I ordered a spinach and artichoke empanada, Buffalo chicken and bleu cheese empanada and a large Italian chef salad. Everything was good and delicious. Service was very good and polite, my order came up, relatively quickly, and the atmosphere in there was typical of a bodega. This is where I have the problem. I ordered one empanada and one Cuban sandwich all the way. Cuban sandwiches are supposed to have ham salami and pork usually. It was basically a ham sandwich for $10. I got one slice of tomato on each side of the sandwich which only covered about. Half of each side of the sandwich. As most of my visits to Mr. Empanada in South Tampa start out, I was across the street at Kuhn VW getting my car serviced and counting down to 11 o'clock! Why 11 o'clock? That's when Mr. Empanada opens during the week! I was eagerly awaiting my lunch visit for traditional beef empanadas and the Italian chef salad - combo#5 (with a drink!)! My 2 favorite menu items there!! No one can touch their empanadas and I stand firm in that statement!!! They are perfectly seasoned, generous portions of meat to flaky deep fried dough and fresh. The salad is reminiscent of the 1905 salad from a very famous Tampa establishment but a little creamier- my guess after taking a closer look is a tighter dressing with more parm. I really am not happy about writing this update. stopped by for some yummy empanadas today. I was craving the spinach and artichoke one. Unfortunately they were out, which I totally understand, but was disappointed. Two other things really upset me. I asked the gentleman that waited on me if they had the mini ones and he said yes, but we cant make them for you because we are too busy. Not good. So I ordered the chicken and broccoli one. We decided to eat them in the car. My covering had the correct name on it but the wrong item was in it. I'm guessing it was buffalo chicken, yuck! Hated it. Mushy, vinegary and spicy (I can't have spicy) So I checked my phone found another Mr Empanada heading towards home and tada, got my spinach & artichoke.
