Solid empanada! Came here right when they opened at 11 am, so was first in line and can't comment on wait times. I opted to get a tampa girl empanada, as it seemed like something different than the norm. The empanada was solid-- it came out piping hot and I really enjoyed the flavors. It's definitely unique and a fun play on a cubano in empanada form. One is a substantial snack, if you wanted a meal I'd suggest 2-3 depending on how hungry you are. This is a review for future Christina, get the fries from here because the kids like it. I know most people go to Empamamas for the empanadas. That's what my sister did. She got an empanada and said that it was pretty good. However, I waited in line just to get fries. This place opens at 11 AM so we walked up at 10:57 and waited for them to open. Once they opened, they gave us buzzers which I thought was interesting since other places now text. It did mean that I ended up just staying close by because I wasn't sure how far the range was. I do appreciate though that they do give you buzzers in case you want to go put in an order at another place. One order of fries is enough for both children, and they both liked it! My children don't like all fries, so this is useful to know that they will eat the fries here. The fries seem to be made fresh, so I did wait a little bit for it. Stopped by Armature Works while walking the Riverwalk and we grabbed something quick from Empamamas. They had four options..two beef, one pork, one chicken. It's $6 for one or 4 for $22, so my husband and I split a box and tried both beef options. These were better than expected. I thought they'd be good, but they surprised me. Still some of the best empanadas I've had. Big fan over the years of the cheeseburger and tampa girl. Had the fresh prince for the first time and it was great too. I do think the price per empanada is a bit steep, but I never complain because they're packed tightly with filling. These aren't those cheap, airy, empanadas that are just crust with a little meat. Personally the cheeseburger is still my favorite, and the Tampa girl is still in second place and I don't even like pickles. If you don't like salt, you wouldn't like this as the cheese adds a nice amount of salt but it works. Get the Mother Clucker! Honestly, I was looking for more traditional empanadas, but needed a snack before I went paddle boarding in the river. We tried the 4 pack sampler of empanadas and a side of the seasoned fries. The fries are decent. They are seasoned. It's pretty light, and they just feel like they need something more. As for the empanadas, what I thought I'd like was actually the opposite. My least favorite was the Tampa Girl. I'm not sure why but the outer edges were pretty bland. I think the sauce might really make this one, so I enjoyed it much more near the center but that leaves so many bites that tasted pretty sub-par. Cheeseburger in Paradise sounds good, but something about eating all the components of a cheeseburger in an empanada just didn't work for me. Nothing was "bad". I just didn't love the combination. The Mother Clucker was far tastier than I expected. I just for whatever reason can't handle any heat anymore postpartum, so the jalapeños just made it to something I wouldn't order again. The overall flavor was really good though! But I didn't expect to love the fresh prince as much as I did. It sounded like a twist on the cheeseburger, but in my head sounded less appealing. I was so wrong. This one was absolutely excellent. I can't even describe it anymore, because it's the only one that was finished immediately and I can't go back for another bite. Had Empamamas for the first time while visiting Florida this week and was absolutely impressed! They have a few things on their menu (tacos, chips & salsa), but I wanted to try what they were most known for. I was BLOWN AWAY by how flavourful and tasty these empanadas were. The crust was flakey and was cooked to perfection. The fries were also very good and were a flavourful side-pairing with the empanadas. The service was quick and the one who took our order was very friendly and personable. I've tried many, many empanadas in the Tampa Bay area and Empamamas has the best, hands-down. They are PACKED with flavor, they definitely do not skimp on the filling. I usually order the trio and I get the Tampa Girl, the Cheeseburger in Paradise, and the Fresh Prince. The Tampa Girl is their signature empanada and consists of Cuban sandwich ingredients - absolutely delicious and my all time favorite. The Cheeseburger in Paradise is exactly as it sounds - cheeseburger ingredients in empanada form - it's better than a cheeseburger, in my opinion. It's juicy and flavorful and I'd choose this over a burger any day. My second favorite, and also a newer addition to their menu, the Fresh Prince - this is a philly cheesesteak in an empanada and I love the flavor of the onion and peppers, it's spot on. Any time I'm craving empanadas I come here, because I just haven't had any that compare. Empamamas is located inside of Armature Works - this place is usually very busy, it's a popular spot, so seating isn't always the easiest to find - we usually order to-go and then decide where we're going to sit and eat from there. The location is great for a day out and about, sight seeing, and it's right on the Riverwalk, which makes for great views in downtown Tampa. Empamamas should make a stand alone fried chicken shop cuz that bang bang chicken is BANGIN!! This is one of the best chicken tenders I've had because of the delicious sauce. It was like a mixture of buffalo sauce and mustard or something like that. It was hard for me to tell, but it was delicious.
