I actually tried it because it was recommended by the bar staff, who are always so so kind. I normally love bar taco but after eating here this evening I didn't feel well. Unsure what it was but everyone in my party felt the same. I ordered the sampler with chips/guac - corn - plantains - and cucumber salad 2 tacos and tres leche for myself (we did share the app) so I am thinking it's something that was in the app. Also the fire alarm was going on for about 15 mins while we were waiting for our checks it felt like it would never end. I've visited Bartaco on multiple occasions. It's not a place I go to very often, but every time I've come here it hasn't quite exceeded expectations ~ especially when compared to many other restaurants in the Hyde Park area. Most recently, my sons and I stopped by during Gasparilla and waited about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all considering the circumstances. Other nearby spots like Timpano had a 3-hour wait, and On Swann was completely closed, so Bartaco was definitely the more accessible option that day. Service is... fine. I can't say I've ever been blown away by it. One of the pros is that food comes out quickly, and they do replace water right away. That said, the QR-code ordering system seems to be the preferred method, and while traditional table service is still available, it sometimes feels like you're inconveniencing the server if you ask for it. I'm giving Bartaco 4 stars mainly because of the fun, lively atmosphere. However, both the food and service consistently fall just short. I ordered the ahi tuna bowl, which was overwhelmingly salty from the amount of soy sauce and spice ~ so much so that I woke up in the middle of the night chugging water. My son's pork belly bowl was also extremely spicy, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you really enjoy fiery dishes. The tacos, on the other hand, are consistently good. Even though Bartaco is located in the heart of beautiful Hyde Park, surrounded by great shops and businesses, it's not one of my favorite taco spots. Having lived in California, I'll also say that truly good, traditional Mexican tacos are hard to come by in Florida. read more

Loved the ambience and service here. Located right in Hyde Park this location was packed when we stopped in for lunch on Sunday. Highly recommend adding yourself to their digital waitlist online. This doesn't guarantee you a seat. You still have to check in and it'll cut down your wait time. The food was consistent as the other locations. We ordered everything from the tuna rice bowl, duck Birria, chips with guacamole, Baja fish tacos and the ahi tuna tatako. All of the textures and flavors were on point. Love the huge variety of tacos here. I ordered the pork belly, roasted duck, Baja fish, and mushroom tacos, and they were all so different yet equally delicious. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite because each one had something special about it. The fish taco was surprisingly crispy, the duck taco had an incredible sauce and was very filling, the mushroom taco was unique and the pork belly was probably the most flavorful. One thing that could be improved a little was the service. We ordered eight tacos and had to remind our server about two that were missed, even though they were clearly written down. We also had to repeatedly ask for water refills despite sitting directly at the bar. That said, the restaurant was extremely crowded and busy, so I don't entirely blame the staff. It might help to have water bottles available for self-refills or larger water glasses, as I found myself feeling thirsty throughout the meal. read more

This taco spot is definitely popping. It was pretty busy when I went, but the service was still great. The tacos are a bit on the pricier side, but the quality makes it worth it. I ordered 2 shrimp, 2 Baja fish, 2 oyster, and 2 ahi tuna tacos, plus a key lime pie--came out to about $50. The ahi tuna was hands-down my favorite, easily one of the tastiest tacos I've ever had. The shrimp, oyster, and Baja fish tacos each had their own distinct flavor profiles, which I really enjoyed. A group of us went to Bartaco a while back and this was actually my first visit to the Tampa location. I've been to one in Nashville before, so I had a pretty good feeling that the food and atmosphere would be just as great as that location (happy to review that it was!). My fav thing to order here is the chips and guac for the table. It's so fresh and always a crowd pleaser. The tacos are just as yummy and are the perfect size for sampling different flavors. It was a bit crowded, but we opted for outdoor seating and were quickly seated in the cute patio area. I think this is a great casual, yet fun dining option in Hyde Park that is a bit more affordable than other nearby sit down restaurants. read more

Great place for tacos and margaritas. I went recently with some friends and we tried many tacos. All the ones i tried, shrimp, green chicken, chorizo, pork belly and carnitas were very good. But the pork belly and the green chicken were amazing. The margaritas were also very tasty. I liked that you can order your food with your phone, and if you have a question, you put a little card on the table and someone comes to help. The atmosphere is great, with good music and nice decoration. They don't take reservations, so if you go on a weekend or with a big group, make sure to get a table first. While you wait, you can walk around Hyde Park Village, which is nice. I would definitely go back. I really liked it! read more

Great time at Bar Taco this weekend. This is located in the central area of Hyde Park, so it does get very busy. They do have an inside and outside bar that is first come first serve. We found a seat at the outside bar on the railing, which by the way, was great people watching! To start off, their Margaritas are amazing. Everything is hand crafted fresh. They are even squeezing the limes to order. All the flavors are juices are made fresh too, you can tell the difference in the quality. Tacos are really good. About $3-5 per taco, about 3 should do! Fun, laid back place to grab a meal. This place was pretty busy on a Tuesday evening. Wait time was about 30 minutes so we walked around Hyde Park until they texted. We started with the ceviche, corn (not on the cob) and dips and guac. The guac was really good so I would definitely get it again. I also loved the corn, it was cheesy. I liked the ceviche too, so it was all a win. For tacos, we tried the tuna (which came on lettuce), ribeye and crispy shrimp. My coworkers tried the chorizo which they said was not good. I liked the ribeye and I was meh on the crispy shrimp and tuna. I'd try different ones next time. The drinks are where it is at. They say their juice is hand squeezed. I got the green margarita which has tequila, combier liqueru d'orange, agave syrup, lime juice and house made green juice. It was delicious and I felt healthy while drinking it. My second drink was a watermelon mint margarita. It was pretty sweet so I'm glad I didn't start with it, but still very delicious. I would drink both again. Overall I always enjoy going here. Was walking through Hyde Park when the place caught our eye. We were put on a waitlist which ended up only being a few minutes. Service was great all around from the hosts, servers, bartenders, etc. You can tell they actually care about your experience. I got two chicken tingas and two seared chorizos tacos while I shared some salsa and pineapple soft serve with the table. All were unique and if you need a little more flavor, there's plenty of salsas for you to add yourself. Entire place is unique and welcoming, I started taking photos the moment I walked in. Would highly recommend, even if it's a bit of a drive cause you don't only get the restaurant, but the entire neighborhood it's in. read more

We stopped here while shopping in the Village for a quick bite. The food was excellent- came quick and was super tasteful. The restaurant vibe was cool with a full service bar and outdoor area. We put our name in, but found a seat outside quick. The wait ended up being about 30 minutes with multiple tables still open throughout the restaurant. We were here on a Saturday and it was very busy, so we didn't have the best service. We waited about 20 minutes after finishing our drinks and food to get our check. There were several tables around us that also didn't get served in a timely manner. This brought our experience down a bit since everything else was so great. read more

It was pretty busy, so we grabbed seats at the bar (first come, first served). The bartender was super quick to help us out. Ordering is done by checking off items on a paper menu--simple and fun. We started with the small guac and chips (more chips than guac), but the flavor was amazing! A little kick from the jalapeño, but just the right amount. Definitely getting the larger size next time. We had two vegetarian tacos and two fish tacos--the fish was small but packed with flavor, especially with the salsa. For drinks, we tried the watermelon and spicy margaritas. Bartaco in South Tampa - a 12/10 experience! Had the most delicious in-between-work lunch with a friend after grinding at Hyde House, and wow... this spot did NOT disappoint. We started with the sweet plantains and I'm not exaggerating when I say they were mouth. watering. Like... dreamy. Then came the tuna poke and guac + chips--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. I sipped on the ginger fresca (so light, so refreshing!) and honestly wanted to bottle it up and take it home. For tacos, we went in. Tried a bunch, but the duck and pork belly ones were NEXT LEVEL. I don't think I have ever met anyone who doesn't love Bartaco... and it's is popular for a reason! Absolutely love this place. The vibes are energetic and poppin! Service is soooo quick and the staff is super friendly. I also love that you can pop in your order on the phone app (as well as pay on it) to make the experience speedy and seamless. The food and drinks are also SO good. I love their classic margarita + guava. Literally AMAZING. Also love their small plates (plantains are my favorite, but also love the corn and guac), and then all the tacos are great, but my favorite is the fish tacos. Let's start with... my Mexican coke was served nearly warm. I personally had to ask for two glasses of ice because the coke melted it so quickly. I ordered the following: Salsa Verde + Chips = solid, would order again. Shrimp Tacos = what happened to the flavor? this used to be my go-to and now I can barely eat it. the sauce was so overpowering. whatever changes they made aside from making the shrimp portion smaller is not good. Duck Taco = always a great choice Mojo Pork Tacos = ehh. it was my first time ordering it and I wasn't impressed. Floridians have to be the most spoiled people when it comes to fine dining and cuisine. Every place I have visited has been top tier! We stopped in at Bartaco after 3 recommendations while walking around Hyde park. We arrived and was immediately seated. I had the guacamole, sangria, and duck birria. Their menu has stars beside popular items but I had items with no stars and thats a shame because what I tasted was phenomenal. The homemade sangria is the duck birria was AMAZING!! My husband had a taco mix of some kind that looked really good and he was happy with but my food was so good I didnt even sample his. It is cute snd nice that they explain on the menu that their taco sizes are about 3 bites and serving is 4-5 tacos. To round out our meal we had churros (they were homemade with two delicious sauces) the food was so good we took a mile walk afterwards. I would definitely return! read more

I visited Bartaco on a girls day with a group of 6. We called ahead for a table because the location that we go to is so busy. We were seated within about 15 minutes on a busy Saturday afternoon. Most of us used the mobile order option to order our food and drinks. I got the Paloma which was okay. I have gotten it here in the past and I did not love it as much. I opted to not order food because I think the tacos are so ridiculously small. Others did and I gave those tacos the same side eye I always do. The service was good and the atmosphere is lively. I don't really pick this place to dine on my own but end up there with groups. read more

The service is good, but these people are always busy so folks need to be patient and when we were there they were. Everybody was having such a good time.
