Food truck

We actually attended the Pinellas Park Taco Fest this past Sunday and wanted to order from his food truck. (We had the opportunity to meet Rene upon ordering and we had seen him on HGTV). We walked around looking at the menus of all the trucks and circled back to Rene's which did have the longest line. Rene had the most unique tacos offered: Octopus & shrimp, crab cake, ahi tuna, lamb, pork barbacoa, al pastor, spicy shrimp, and pork belly to name a few (see pictures posted) Friends had eaten from Rene's truck on Saturday and highly recommended both the lamb and octopus & shrimp (mentioned that the octopus & shrimp was soft as butter and juicy). We decided on: *Beef Barbacoa de chacete on a flour tortilla. Tasty, a bit spicy and delicious. *Octopus & shrimp on a flour tortilla. Unfortunately, it was overcooked; the octopus was tough as a rubber band and the shrimp were chewy. (It was actually inedible.) The 5-stars are based on my friend's experience. I hope to try it again one day soon. The truck was inviting, the service was fast and the staff was very friendly. There was a $3 upcharge to use a credit card but it wasn't visually posted.

Pork Barbacoa Taco: meh

We spend $81 on tacos and sad to say, they were just ok. We ordered two tacos of the following, pork barbacoa, chile releno, pork Al Pastor, rainbow trout and oyster mushroom. Aside from mushroom taco, alll the other tasted the same. I couldn't decipher what i was eating. Seasonings were missing from each taco. Heck, i would've been happy with a squeeze of lime to brighten up the food. Oyster Mushroom taco was the best taco we had that night. It was buttery, meaty, had alot of flavor. Overall, i had high hopes for this place.

I got a recommendation to try Rene's. We were around the area and wanted to give it a try. It's a food truck with a few picnic tables to sit at. The weather was nice so we decided to eat there, but the tables were pretty dirty. Based on the uniqueness we ordered the Pork Barbacoa burrito. It was pretty substantial, with rice and black beans filling. I didn't really love how greasy it was, literally dripping with oil, so I couldn't pick it up. I had to eat it with a fork instead. I'm actually glad I did because I realized something hard when eating a piece, it was a rock. I was so shocked, I went over to tell them, just so they didn't get it in anyone else's meal. They offered to make me another one and made me a new one but honestly I kinda felt off from finding it in the first one. I don't normally like writing reviews like this, I just can't believe this happened and glad I was able to find it before chewing on it.

My daughter and I ordered dinner via DoorDash. We absolutely loved our burritos! She ordered the El Pastor. I ordered the Campechana. They were delicious! A huge serving. The flan however is not good. It had no flavor. And it was $6! Very disappointing. We will order again and not get dessert.

Excellent food. Had the birria tacos and taquitos. Grab a beer at the brewery next door and you're set. Will be back again.

So, you've been drinking at Southern Brewing. You need to sober up. Rene's is across the street waiting for you. Walk over, place your order and they will text you when it's ready. Tacos: 1. Steak and bacon Beefy. Smokey. Tastes like Texas bbq. 2. Chile relleno A small pepper stuffed with beef in a handheld taco. Genius and yum. 3. Carne asada Maybe my favorite the smear of avocado makes it. 4. Fish taco If they have it. Get it. Try it with their tomatillo salsa. Yum. Ambiance... it's a food truck in a parking lot. Lol

Amazing food. I often have to skip food trucks as many of them don't have meatless options, but Rene's offers delicious oyster mushroom tacos with pico and cabbage (cheese optional) to satisfy your veggie needs. They are so good, and any of their fillings can be ordered as a burrito too. I also got the "side" of rice and beans which was a huge portion. Top it off with a Jarritos, and it was one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had. Rene's serves from a food truck at the corner of Nebraska and East Emma Street. There is a small parking lot and a few picnic tables, but it seems like most people were taking their food to go. They have a card reader, but probably appreciate cash like any small business.

Carne Asada, Pork Barbacoa, Chile Relleno tacos.

Rene is one of the great food truck in Tampa. For the Taco Truck, they are at top of my list. Great food and creative. Now they are located next to across Southern brewery empty lot area. You may want to call ahead before your visit to see if they open. They were at Dale Mabry before. The current location is more permanent. We have three different taco to try. We have the Chile Relleno, Carne Asada, Pork Barbacoa. The one taco that very interesting and recommended is the Chile Relleno. This jalapeño stuffed ground beef and fried. This is the first time I have taco this way. The carne Asada was delicious compared to many steak taco. Overall the taco are excellent. Flavor is definitely good. They also have other type like grilled butter squash, pork belly, steak bacon, spicy shrimp and oyster mushroom. These menu is great and think out of box.

I kept seeing Rene's pop up on various social media sites, so I finally decided to pay a visit. Best decision ever! Rene's food truck is located in an empty parking lot, right next to Southern Brewing, so I don't foresee parking for pickup ever being an issue. There are two picnic tables next to the truck, but it really is geared mainly for takeout. The menu was located online, so I ordered before I went. Next time I'll be sure and ask about any specials of the day. I ordered a variety of tacos, and rice and beans. The tacos were absolutely fantastic - chock full of fillings, with a bit of a smoky flavor, on a warm flour tortilla. Two different sauces were provided on the side, which were wonderful. The rice and beans were a huge portion, and very flavorful. I really can't remember the last time I had tacos that were this good. Rene is one of the original founders of Taco Bus, and when he left, that establishment rapidly went downhill. If you missed out on Taco Bus in its glory days, go see Rene at his Mexican Kitchen and you'll rediscover the magic.

Very good burrito with pork. Friendly staff and walking distance for me. People travel from Macdill to get food here.

We started with nachos for the table with chipotle cheese sauce, pickled red onion, pickled chile, guacamole, queso fresco, and sour cream and they were the perfect way to kick everything off. For mains, we ordered the enchiladas poblanas (chicken, queso fresco, house-made mole, crema, onion, and sesame) and shared the steak Tampiqueña with grilled strip steak, refried beans, and rajas corn enchiladas. The steak was genuinely perfection so flavorful and cooked beautifully. I also treated myself to an espresso martini, which was divine...maybe just a little strong, but in the best way. We had a delicious lunch right before our concert, and the location made it super convenient since it was right where we were staying. Overall, such a great sisters' trip meal, amazing food, fun vibe, and a perfect pre-concert stop. Would 100% recommend!!!

The lobster quesadilla was hands down the best quesadilla I've ever had. I also ordered the crab and shrimp enchiladas and everything was seasoned to perfection. My friend had the enchiladas poblanas and loved hers just as much. The drinks were just as good. I had an espresso martini while my friend ordered a guava margarita. The vibe really made the night. It's the perfect spot for a girls' night really. Our waitress was so sweet and even helped bag our food at the end of the night, which I appreciated. There was an event going on nearby, so valet was super convenient and even discounted since we were dining at the restaurant. Overall, I really loved everything about this place. We're already planning to come back for happy hour.

If you are in Ybor City and trying to enjoy yourself without lighting your wallet on fire, Barrio…read moreTacos is a very smart move. What I appreciated most is the build your own taco option, because it allows you to order exactly what you want without paying for a bunch of filler ingredients you were going to push to the side anyway. When you strip it down to the proteins and toppings you actually like, the cost savings are real. In a place like Ybor, where prices can creep up quickly, that matters. Now, the à la carte menu can feel a little confusing at first glance. It is not the most straightforward ordering system if you are just breezing through. But once someone walks you through it and you understand how to piece your order together, it becomes completely worth it. You end up with exactly what you want, and you are not overpaying for things you did not ask for. The vibe was great. The service was friendly and patient, which helps when you are trying to decode the menu. And the location is ideal. There is an outdoor patio with umbrellas on the sunny side of the street, which gives you options. You can sit in the sun if you want that warm Florida glow, or you can stay shaded if you are protecting your skin but still want to be outside watching the action unfold on the strip. And let's be honest, half the entertainment in Ybor is people watching. Add in the random roosters casually strolling around like they own the neighborhood, and you have a full show with your meal. I loved everything about this place and highly recommend it if you want to save a few bucks on food while still soaking up everything Ybor City has to offer. Good tacos, good vibes, good people watching. Hard to beat that combination.

We're out in Ybor and decided to stop at Barrio. The…read moreambience of the location is really dark. Not much changed from it being the previous locations of other restaurants, but it definitely needs more natural light. It's like eating in a dungeon. The tacos there was a lot going on on the menu and I'm sure this is a niche, but it is not a niche. I am on board with any taco that had ground beef was kind of disgusting the other tacos. You could've made them at home and probably made them better if you're looking for authenticity this is not the place. Service the service was not much to write home about nothing was stellar, but nothing was bad. With all things being equal, this is not a place that I would naturally recommend somebody likes it but it's probably the same people that eat Tijuana flat.
