May I suggest: Their empanadas may be what they are known for, but they do offer much more. Even better is that you can easily create a very tasty and filling meal. For me personally, when I come I get one empanada, one small Italian salad (ALWAYS tossed) and a small soup (I've had both Spanish bean and black bean, and you can't go wrong with either). I recently tried their deviled crab and it was huge and nicely stuffed with crab. I had the black bean soup (delicious) to go with that and a salad. The food is made relatively quickly, however the quality is NOT fast food. I always get a small café con leche (very good and does NOT need any sweetener). I love empanadas, so when we went to the Korean restaurant Rice one day & I noticed a restaurant dedicated solely to empanadas, I knew I had to try it. However, I was a little bit disappointed by the selection: - Ground beef (picadillo) - Beef & cheese - Italian sausage & cheese - Chicken, broccoli & cheese - Crabmeat What, no ground chicken with spices? That's the whole selection? I don't know what I was expecting, but for a whole restaurant just for empanadas I thought there'd be more than that. I also didn't really expect them to be almost $3 each... (-2) I settled on one picadillo; one chicken, broccoli & cheese; & one crabmeat; sweetie also had a crabmeat one. They make them fresh upon ordering (+1), so when they brought them to our table (+1 -- this IS an order-at-the-counter sort of place; I rather expected them to call out a number) they were piping hot so I had to wait a minute before chowing down. They were good. Not great, but good. The crabmeat one brought to mind the devil crab that is so popular in these parts; the chicken, broccoli & cheese wasn't quite like the chicken pot pie sort of thing I was expecting, but it wasn't far from it; & the picadillo was decent. I loaded each of them down with Texas Pete hot sauce -- what, no real salsa? While I was recently moving into my new home, my wife and I got super hungry and decided to order something via Uber Eats from Mr. Empanada. My wife isn't a huge fan of empanadas because her past experiences have been of super greasy or oily empanadas that just made her feel gross. I had eaten at Mr. Empanada before, so I knew that they were really good. I convinced her that she needed to try one and so I ordered her a spinach, artichoke, and cheese empanada along with a pressed cuban sandwich. I ordered a beef and cheese empanada along with a pressed cuban sandwich and a side of Spanish bean soup. The food arrived quickly (thank you Uber Eats) and was still hot when we got it. The empanadas were delicious (how do they make them with the crust so crispy?!) and my wife loved hers, but she wasn't as big a fan of the Spanish bean soup. I liked it, but it didn't have a ton of flavor. I don't know if that was just a lackluster batch that day or if that's the normal taste. I added a bit of hot sauce to it and it was a lot nicer. As for the cubans, they were pretty good, but not great. I've had a pressed cuban from Mr. Empanada before and it seems like meat wasn't as flavorful as I remember. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, and very much edible, but for me something was off. My wife enjoyed hers, so maybe I'm just being overly picky. Either way, we'll be back for sure. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, the beef and cheese empanada, the sausage and cheese empanada, and the crabcake croqueta. For this place being called Mr. Empanadas, the empanadas are pretty mediocre. The crabcake croqueta is actually kind of nasty. However, I will definitely be coming back to this place for one reason. That reason is the Cuban sandwich. And the main thing about the Cuban sandwich that I love so much is the bread. It is amazing and delicious authentic Cuban bread! And when pressed, it has a great crispy outside. I had my Cuban l prepared the traditional way with only the meat, cheese, pickles, and mayo and mustard. They asked me if I wanted tomatoes and lettuce on it which I declined. I kind of don't understand lettuce and tomatoes on a Cuban but I have encountered that at a few places in this area. I was not at all impressed with these empanadas. My humble opinion is: This establishment would better cater to a 3am drunk clubbers crowd. Better than a chain drive thru. But not impressive if u are sober. I am latin and I have eaten them in multiple latin American countries. I even know how to make them. Dont get me wrong, the chicken bbq one i ordered and the beef one were edible. It was easier than me cooking one which cured my empanada craving. Still, it was not....at....all...worth...no... $3.00. What baffled me was the size of the store. So big! Then u look at their menu...so small. They lack in variety of empanada and I was a bit dissapointed that I traveled all the way from clearwater for something I could easily have prepped and fried at home using Goya frozen empanada discs from publix. Mine are bigger and more stuffed. Just sayin'....owners...if you care about a better empanada, check out "de nosotros empanadas" in dominican republic.
