The dumpling wasn't warm enough. They said all the pork sold out but later said that the dumplings are available right after I ordered chicken dumplings. and added. They tried make me order 2 dumplings for no need. Also, a lady asked me if I need spicy sauce, but another lady speaking in not English and it seems said that "they don't need the spicy sauce." They decided my order without asking me. The lady is nice to American group, but pick the people who she wants to make a good customer service. When I asked them, they don't have any water cup, but I saw people who got it. Also, they brought me a cup of tea right after I finished my meal. I won't be back the store again.

Horrible!! This older lady with short hair wouldn't serve us. We stopped by to try the dumplings, she told us they ran out of pork, so we ordered chicken. She puts our order in and then tries to sale us other items, but we didn't want anything else. She tells us "oh ok let me see if we still have food left" she then turns around to her kitchen area and acts as if she's talking to the cook. Comes back to us and says "we don't have anything left, sorry." At first I immediately felt profiled because she wouldn't even look me in the face while I was ordering, but after seeing other reviews it's evident that she's just a horrible person. Please don't waste your money with these people.

The person that was racist toward my family and me.

Super rude toward white people. Actually told me I couldn't sit at a table with my family because it was a two person table sitting next to a 4 person table. When I asked who said I cant sit next to my family, she shoved the table away from me and took a chair, slamming it next to the table next to me, leaving me only to sit alone. My family and I will never buy anything from such a rude and racist establishment and I strongly no one else either.

Not ashamed to admit that I visited twice in a day because that's how delicious their steamed vegetable dumplings are. Very soft that it melts into your mouth and is easy to swallow. The wrap isn't dry and the filling is delicious stuffed with glass noodles and chives. Quick service. It took less than 10 mins to have my order ready and it seems like it's a popular spot for lunch. Located in the Hmart food court, so it's very busy and surrounded by delicious restaurants. So many options to choose from here.

The family that owns this restaurant is so amazingly nice. They always say hello when my family comes for lunch. The dumplings are cooked to perfection and they make sure you are happy! Had so much food that was delicious. Keep in mind that there will probably be a line as they are very popular in the food court inside H Mart.

The food was amazing and the owner was the absolute sweetest. If you like dumplings check them out! 10/10

My Brother has a tree-nut allergy (everything excluding peanuts). There wasn't anything he couldn't eat, and to my knowledge there wasn't any peanuts but I but I would double check!

It's not a dim sum place but rather a dumpling eatery inside the hmart grocery store.

I'd say it was pretty good overall, but there are definitely some issues that warrant attention on…read moretheir part if they want to be successful. I overheard one employee (maybe the manager) on the phone saying things are slow and it has been hard, which makes sense based on what I saw. It was what should have been a busy lunch day for them but my table was one of two there when we arrived, and the woman at the other table actually abandoned her water/sauces and left the restaurant before she ordered. My thinking with hot pot places is that you can either cater more to the Asian market or to the American market, but not effectively to both. I was at a different one last week that was very Asian oriented. I could not identify 90% of the items in the pot and they could tell me nothing about what sort of meat they use; they only had "beef" and "fatty beef" options for beef, but could not tell me what cut it was. It didn't taste like any beef I have ever had. There were a lot of tastes and textures I was not familiar with and didn't particularly like. That's just personal preference, not indicative of quality, but it's important to know that people who are not accustomed to those tastes and textures may not respond as well to them. That particular place, I would not return to. Chao's Beef Hotpot is much closer to the mark on catering to the American market. The menu makes sense. I know what meat I'm ordering. The ribeye looked nicely marbled. The $1 promotional beef plate was awesome. Food-wise, we were all satisfied. Where I think Chao's misses the mark is twofold: 1) Service -- The only person we interacted with in the restaurant was someone who spoke passable English but was difficult to understand. No problem at all with people speaking their own languages, but when you're having a new experience (which many American who wander into a hot pot place are), it's hard enough to understand what's going on even without a language barrier and having to strain a little to understand someone. They would benefit from having some staff who can communicate effortlessly with English-speaking clientele. There was also no explanation of how things work there and they have no literature or signage. It's like they just assume that everyone who goes in there knows what they are doing, which is not the case for most people. So I had to be the person who explained it to the other 3 people I was with. No one had any idea what all the different bowls and spoons are for or what the right etiquette is or why there was a metal thing in the pot. So many different sauces at the sauce bar: which ones mix well together or go with which foods? Pricing is my last gripe, though at this place with the promo it happens to be extremely reasonable and it's great that 4 people can share one pot, which is very economical. But I hate the idea of a la carte charges for sauces and vegetables. My favorite hot pot place in Richardson charges a fixed price per person for the stock and you have to select 1 protein so you're in for like $18/person, but you have unlimited sauces and vegetables. On an a la carte offering it seems nuts to pay $5 for a plate of cabbage or $5 for some mushrooms. And the assorted vegetables at Chao's for $8 is fine but includes a lot of stuff that was more spriggy than leafy and didn't feel like it made sense in a pot. Overall I think Chao's COULD become very successful, but they will need to work on the communication with customers and be more thoughtful about the customer experience. Remember that a lot of your target market is people who are in the surrounding offices or wandered over to the urgent care or saw it driving by and have no clue what they are doing here. Having a friendly face ready to greet them and explain how things work and help them have a good experience will go a long way. The fact that you had a customer in there just sitting there who ended up walking out before she ordered was a missed opportunity; who knows how many people she might have referred or brought back if she'd had a good experience. She may even have been a food critic or something.

Definitely skip the dim sum as all the other reviews are stating. The noodle soups are quite good. The egg noodles have a good consistency and the broth is *usually* flavorful with tender meat if you get the beef. My favorite go to are the BBQ items. I usually come once a week for a 2 BBQ combo, you can choose from roast pork, bbq pork, duck, chicken. All of the choices are good and its served on rice w/ veggies, usually bok choi. The crispy roast pork only comes out after around noon. Also its best during lunch. By dinner time the food has been out too long and its not as good. You can also buy meat by the pound as well.

Imagine growing up in one of the classic Chinatown areas (San Francisco, Flushing, Garden Grove,…read morePhilly) and spending weekends there enjoying dim sum and other Asian cuisine with your closest family members. Then you move away from that hometown area for school and have urges to indulge in delicious dim sum. Asian Gourmet Kitchen has the ability to bring back those sweet childhood memories and aromas, but sadly, the food is just not up to par. We ordered the shrimp dumplings and the pork shumai, which smelled delicious, but unfortunately the same could not be said about the taste. The dumplings seemed overcooked and the fillings were already falling out of the dumpling skin, not to mention that they were overly salty. The shumai similarly had the skin falling off, but the taste was decent. All in all, it's a pretty quick place to drop by and grab some BBQ/dim sum/noodle soup if you get hungry while shopping at the 99 Ranch the restaurant is inside, but it's not somewhere I would go out of the way to visit -- there's definitely better out there.

I really wanted to love this place…read more After having a great experience during happy hour, I came back for dinner with a friend expecting the same level of service. During my first visit (dining at the bar), the bartender was incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely made a bad day feel a little better. Unfortunately, the dinner experience was almost the complete opposite. My friend and I came in for an early Friday dinner around 4:45 PM, hoping to beat the crowds and enjoy a little more of their happy hour. The restaurant was far from busy when we arrived, which made what happened next even more frustrating. After being seated, my friend hadn't arrived yet, so I was sitting alone. Not once did anyone stop by to ask if I wanted something to drink--not even water. I could see several servers gathered toward the back near the kitchen/restroom area, but there seemed to be very little attention being paid to the handful of guests actually dining. Once my friend arrived, we STILL waited another 20 minutes just to get water. From there, the service continued to be painfully slow and inattentive. Every time we wanted to order something, ask a question, or simply get some attention, it felt like we were waiting 20+ minutes for someone to come back to the table. At one point, I literally got up myself and grabbed a water carafe because we had been sitting without water for so long. I have dined at plenty of restaurants with slower service, but I have never had to get up and serve myself water because our table was being completely overlooked. There was also some confusion with the menu. We ordered an item of the specials that was described to us as a roll, so naturally we were expecting a roll. What arrived was essentially sashimi. Had it been explained accurately, we would have made a different decision given my friend is pregnant and didn't want raw fish. The biggest issue for me is that dining out isn't just about the food. The experience matters. You shouldn't have to spend your dinner trying to flag down your server, wondering when someone will check on you, or getting up to refill your own water. Because the restaurant wasn't even busy yet, the extended wait times were especially difficult to understand. I'm giving this 2 stars, although honestly, the dinner experience alone would have been a 1-star visit for me. The reason I'm giving that extra star is entirely because of my first experience and, specifically, the bartender who was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive, friendly, and made me feel genuinely welcomed. That first experience is the only thing that saved this review from being a 1-star rating. Unfortunately, the dinner service left me spending way too much time in the restaurant--not because I was enjoying the experience, but because we were constantly waiting and couldn't even grab the check to get out of there.
