Kyay oh and flat beef noodles
Monalisa Z.

This restaurant has a really bad location, unbelievable the rent must be real cheap. If not for yelp, I wouldn't have known there's a restaurant here. Upon entering, one side of the restaurant was dark. We sat on the brighter side. A teenage boy was our server. Tasted two dishes, stir-fried beef flat noodles, and kyay oh - vermicelli soup with intestines, offal and beef. Tried samosas $3/ 2 piece. Total cost $17 including tax. Samosas were good. It's not Indian samosas, they use egg roll skin , and the inside more resembles curry puff. Flat noodles were excellent. Tasted very much like street food. Smaller noodles than usual. Vermicelli was ok, but the intestines they cleaned it real good and didn't have bad smell. Would I go again? Yes for sure

My first time trying Burmese cuisine....I was hungry and it was close to my destination, why not? I order what looked familiar....Lo Mein with Veggies. I waited less than 10 minutes and took it to my car to eat. Oh my....tasty, hot, and fresh!!! I loved it and will return. Note: I got a level 3 spice and it was turnt up....but it was so good it didn't matter.

After checking out Rebel Muse, we ate here. We've never had Burmese food, so why not try it. It's in a worn down shopping center. Looks like it used to be a happening place. It's nice and quiet inside the restaurant. Not many tables. My husband got the flat noodles. Not the Cantonese flat noodles, the description says gravy..there was no gravy. Whatever he had was good though. I told my husband want I wanted and went to the restroom to wash my hands. He ordered something completely different than what I told him. Lol. The braised pork belly stew was delicious. I don't think I would order it again though, but I definitely would come back here to eat.

Great food! We tried the sweet rice appetizer and the dumplings. Also tried a beef soup and fried rice. Delicious!!! Fresh and tasty. Burmese milk tea was good too. We will be back!

Really good food! A very incognito restaurant I would say, I only discovered it by luck one day as I was in that area. Became a regular!

At the low end of Burmese that I have been to. Very limited menu with many menu items not available. Curry's are lacking.

We loved everything about this meal! Such a cute, incredibly clean, quiet little spot…read more We had never tried Burmese food before, we were actually looking for Indian food when the Yelp reviews led us here, and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Myeik Pan-Fried Noodles, Burmese Curry, Mango Chicken, Burmese Samosas, Palatha with Curry Dip, Coconut Noodle Soup, and Inlay Tea Salad. Everything was delicious and SO flavorful. We loved getting to try so many different dishes, and there truly wasn't a bad one in the bunch! Our server was the son of the family who owns the restaurant, and he was so kind, helpful, and conversational. He made us feel welcome and was great about answering questions since Burmese food was new to us. Because it's a small, family-run restaurant, the food came out in stages rather than all at once, but we honestly didn't mind at all. We were sharing everything anyway, so it actually made it fun to try each dish as it came out! I have such a soft spot for family-owned restaurants. Supporting families and their small businesses is one of my favorite things to do, and this was such a great find. Delicious food, wonderful people, and definitely a place we'll be back to!

We ordered some items to eat for lunch and then some items to take home for later. I ordered the shrimp and eggplant curry and the palatha flatbread to accompany. It is really difficult to describe the flavor profile. Rich, tangy, full of umami??????? Please just get any dish on the menu and this is the experience you will have. My husband gets C2 (Basil Chicken) every time. This time he said he could have drunk the leftover broth. Well, he got the chance when he ordered a C2 to go! LOL! I ordered the chili lamb for my to go order and it was unbelievably delicious and seasoned perfectly. This restaurant is absolutely spic and span EVERY time we are here. Clean throughout and clean restrooms. This is a family owned restaurant and whoever takes your order is probably one of the owner's children. Such neat people and a dining experience.

The space is charming, beautifully yet simply decorated, sparkling clean. Even the ladies room! For sports watchers, they do have 4 big screens in the open-dining room bar. Easy to see from other parts of the restaurant as well. Let's get to the food...absolutely TDF! My favs are the fried imperial rolls and the fried rice over easy (lunch special on Tuesdays!). The rice dish is FULL of perfectly cooked veggies, tender chicken, and an egg on top. The service is SPOT ON percent of the time. Super friendly, on top of it, yet not breathing down your neck. Support this local gem! Note, they also have a spot in the West Village.

It was her first time at Malai, and we were so excited to share it with her and have her try the pad Thai and mango coconut dessert. But it was disappointing for all of us. The pad Thai and lemongrass chicken did not have the right flavor profile. As for the dessert, the presentation was off (the portion was honestly so small!) and the coconut milk mixture was very runny and tasted watered down. I also felt like the taste of the coconut was going bad. It was the first time we didn't finish our food. But that being said, the service here is excellent. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, considering it was my aunt's first time. The establishment is also very clean. We came in right after happy hour ended, so the restaurant was fairly empty and we got seated right away. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning to this location since I think the food tastes better at the Fort Worth and Southlake locations.

So happy about the location - it's in a popular spot…read more Even happier about the drink (I don't like the ice) - the mango coconut smash is a favorite of mine. Trying to make it at home but not sure how to make it foamy like they do. The curry dish with rice and meat was a slam dunk, I loved it. I can see why a coworker at my old job recommended it, it's pretty solid. Vibes are not as tropical and more like fine dining in this location. Keep up the good work

I really want to give the food a 5/5, but if I'm comparing it to a lot of the Thai places I've been…read moreto in Houston, I have to fairly rate them 4/5. There's just been truly so many outstanding experiences I've had in Houston. Regardless, the food was very good and it was authentic, we did get dishes similar to what we got at Street to Kitchen in Houston, which is the most authentic Thai we've had. Food: I forgot to take pictures of two other dishes we ordered, the Thai chicken, wings, and the drunken noodles. But let me start with the complementary sticky rice. I've actually never had a complementary "starter" at a Thai restaurant, so they stood out, and it was a good meal prepper. The dip is an eggplant type of dip so it's not peanut sauce based. It was really good. The best dish was the crab dip with the shrimp chips, the dip was curried and balanced well with the crab. The chicken wings weren't as crispy as we're used to, and there were more on the saucy side, but it was a solid 4/5 dish. The drunken noodles were good and I feel like they had a great mix of veggies, beef, and noodles in the dish, so it wasn't so carb heavy. But we've definitely had better flavor drunken noodles before. Lastly, the mango sticky rice presentation was unlike anything I've seen before, and I loved it. Do I prefer the traditional sliced mango over a bit of rice? Perhaps. But I did enjoy tasting the mango and the condensed milk and a sticky rice together inside the coconut for a change. Service: we went during dinnertime on a Saturday night, and I was so impressed with the level of service we had. Because don't get me wrong, they were busy, but the food came out so fast & we had multiple servers filling up our water and ensuring we're doing okay. We were literally out of there in about an hour, but it wasn't because they were pushing us out, it was truly because everything was so quick. And I loved that strategy they used where we didn't have just one server assigned to us, which is probably why they are thriving here in Dallas. Overall, if you're craving Thai, I would recommend coming here.

Malai Kitchen in Clearfork is a welcome detour from a shopping afternoon, Thai and Vietnamese…read morecuisine in a bright, airy space that makes you want to settle in for longer than your credit card probably intended. A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
