Chicken skewers were tough, dry and tiny. Not a great look Mr. Cone. Will not be back.

I ordered a bowl with lamb. Food was fresh and delicious. It's a much welcome addition to the area's fast casual offerings.

We were greeted by Chef Cody's wife (I believe her name is Haley?), and seated at 2-top table in the front room by the bar. We waited until the other guests arrived for the 7pm seating, and our dining experience began. Let me just start by saying that I've definitely spoiled myself, having been to several tasting menus across Dallas and a handful in other states. To be honest, this one did not live up to my expectations, unfortunately. I still give 4 stars for the overall dining experience, as the chef and his staff were very friendly and efficient, and provided a warm, welcoming environment. This was a 10-course tasting menu with 5 natural wine pairings, coming out to ~$450 for 2 people after taxes and before tip. This is a reasonable price for the DFW area. From the menu, I really liked the first few courses, especially the boneless pork rib and fermented potato bread! The panko-breaded pork was SOOO soft and tender, juicy goodness in every bite. And the potato bread with cultured brie butter was so dense, unlike any "bread" I've had before! From the entrees, I enjoyed the oyster carbonara, which had a rich taste to it - not much oyster flavor, just as the chef had described upon bringing out the dishes, but very cheesy without being overwhelming. I liked how they started and ended with tartlette - definitely enjoyed the chilled grilled asparagus one, especially with the delicate crust of the tart. Now, a few criticisms of the menu - I think there were a few too many fried pieces - the panko-fried pork followed by the fried avocado was a little heavy for me. I was a little disappointed by the aged duck breast course. I very much enjoy duck breast, but I really look for the crispy skin on top with tender meat throughout. Maybe I had a bad piece, but my duck meat pieces were very chewy, and I couldn't finish it all. The beet bordelaise was an absolute delight and added elegant flavor to the dish. I was also excited for the apple & hazelnut dessert, as I loooove hazelnut! But I thought that the koji salt was a little too salty and overpowered the apple and hazelnut pieces. I will note here as a disclaimer that I have a salt-sensitive palate, so this may not have been the case for others. The wine pairings were excellent - each wine went along with 2 courses of the menu. However, I was surprised that they did not change out the wine glass for the middle 3 wines, moving from white to orange to red wines... I would expect that in a wine tasting at a vineyard where they are trying to conserve cups/glasses for the small pours, but in a fine dining setting, I expect the glass to be changed out for each wine. I did like that they paired the sake with the two dessert courses, definitely played into my Japanese heritage. I did notice that as they were pouring the sake, the nigori had settled a bit to the bottom. I would like to see the sake being tilted a little bit before pouring so that the particles do not settle. I thought the pacing of the meal was great - very relaxed but not waiting too long between courses, and the dishes were explained thoroughly and in a timely manner. Haley had great timing as well, pouring each wine before the dish was brought out. I appreciated how she explained the rationale of why each was paired to complement the flavor profile of the dish.

It's not about the few dollars; it's the principle. They are straight-up robbers with that kind of customer service. As for the food, don't get your hopes up. The entire menu is mid at best. The punugulu was the only decent thing I had, but trust me, one okay appetizer is absolutely not worth making the trip all the way out to Denton. Save your time, save your money, and go to a restaurant that actually respects its customers.

I ended up with flavorful and fresh flavors that left me wishing I could eat more but with no room left. Prices were reasonable. There were several tables waiting ahead of me and several to go pickups after I arrived so I think I was probably #10 in line and my food took 30-40 minutes at 6 PM- I think I just hit the early dinner rush. Don't let that discourage you: order and run some errands if you are tight on time. I eat Indian about weekly and there were so many menu options I've never seen before. I felt like I took a little trip to India. Picnic tables outside were a great way to enjoy the spring breezes while I waited- can't wait to come back!

I started with the ham and cheese empanada. The outside was fried perfectly crispy, but the filling was basically chopped lunch meat and cheese. It wasn't terrible, but definitely underwhelming. I'd rate it about a 2/10. Next, I ordered the mofongo with chicharrón. The flavor was extremely garlic-heavy, and it was only served warm instead of hot and fresh. The texture and seasoning just didn't hit for me. I'd give that around a 3/10. The biggest issue was the fried beef. The meat smelled off and tasted spoiled. After eating it, I ended up with a stomach ache later on. That completely ruined the experience for me and honestly made me question the freshness of other items on the menu as well. Would I return? Probably not. I don't mind giving restaurants second chances, but food quality and freshness are non-negotiable for me, especially when spending hard-earned money dining out.

Step 4: Name every roll after either a volcano, a ninja, or an apocalypse. Komodo Loco apparently looked at that formula and said, "Nah." This place has actual character. The restaurant is dark and cool without feeling like you're being interrogated. There are cozy little nooks everywhere, and somehow it manages to feel both laid-back and upscale. Like if a speakeasy and a sushi restaurant had a child who grew up with excellent taste. Then the food arrived. Look, I've had plenty of sushi. I've had good sushi. I've had "my friend won't stop talking about this sushi" sushi. Komodo Loco belongs in the last category. The fish was incredibly fresh, but what really stood out was that the rolls didn't all taste like slight variations of spicy mayo negotiating with cream cheese. The flavors were genuinely original. We ordered the Crispy Rice Bites, the T-Dub Roll, and the Horacio Roll based on our server's recommendations. The Crispy Rice Bites were so good I briefly considered ordering a second round before I had finished the first. The T-Dub Roll disappeared from the plate so quickly that I suspect it may have violated several laws of physics. The Horacio Roll was one of those dishes that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and stare into the middle distance while reconsidering every life choice that led you to not order two of them. Which brings me to our server: Breann. Or Breanna. I apologize for not knowing which one. In my defense, I was busy entering a committed relationship with sushi. My daughter is moving to Denton, and since we don't live here, we asked what we should order. Breann/Breanna immediately became the Gandalf of menu navigation. There was no hesitation. No "everything is good." No vague server diplomacy. Just confident recommendations that absolutely delivered. She was kind, funny, helpful, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. More importantly, she made my daughter feel at home in a city she's about to call home. As a dad, that meant a lot. I also loved how Komodo Loco celebrated Pride Month. Not because restaurants have to weigh in on everything, but because the atmosphere simply communicated: "Hey, you're welcome here." And honestly, that's one of the best things a restaurant can do. Good food fills your stomach. A welcoming place fills the room. Komodo Loco managed to do both. So yes, I'll be back every time I'm in Denton. My daughter thinks she's moving here for school. I think she's moving here so I'll have an excuse to eat at Komodo Loco several times a year. One of us is probably right.

It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.
