First time I had the hot Porchetta sandwich which is a wonderfully balanced sandwich of amazing Porchetta,Mozzarella,carmelized onions,balsamic glaze and EVOO. The flavors of the salty Porchetta and cheese with the sweet onions are just amazing on the crispy Ciabatta. Second time I got the Cotto which is Prosciutto, SmokedMozz,Sauteed Broccoli Rabe and Sun Dried Tomatoes. Another wonderfully balanced sandwich. The garlicky Broccoli Rabe was so good. As the name itself suggests, the rich and epically-stretchy mozzarella made in house is the star of the show here - one of the best in the city, and better than the ones I had on Arthur Avenue. We shared the eggplant Parmesan and the pugliese (broccoli rabe and ricotta) sandwiches. I've had this spot on my list for AGES as it's a solid 3 hours out of the way for my weekend errands. I finally got to go today. They have a ton of Italian imported snacks, they seem even more authentic than Eataly. I ended up just getting a 1/2lb straciatella, sold to me by a lovely nonna. The straciatella is perfectly seasoned and I'm shamelessly eating it right out of the container, plain. PRAYING I can put half of it away to put on top of some focaccia tomorrow. Swung by here on a whim while waiting for Lucali's and am so glad I did! It's a nice and cozy shop with a great and interesting menu. The service was quick and friendly! There's limited indoor seating, but there's some outdoor seating available as well. I ordered a few proscuitto balls to-go and immediately loved it upon the first bite. I stopped by this new wonderful place around a week ago having noticed it on one of my walks. On Yelp at that point, they were listed as closed on Mondays but I decided to go over and they were indeed open. They have a nice selection of Italian goods from fresh homemade cheeses and pastas to drinks and snacks and everything else and it reminds me a bit overall of Tavola though I think the prices here are overall cheaper. I was originally thinking of ordering the swordfish panini/panino but they didn't have the ingredients and they recommended the tuna panino. I'm usually not a fan of Italian style tuna but this one was a little bit different containing stracciatella, tuna, oregano, and arugula so I decided to go with it. As I was waiting, the friendly man was giving a sample of some cheeses to some other people there and I first had a taste of their fior di latte, specifically the al pesto, which was delicious. They were also giving a sample of their fresh mozzarella which was probably the best mozzarella I've ever had. Perfect texture and I will definitely be going back just to get some of this to make my own sandwiches. Staff was very ncie in short. The sandwich was excellent packed full of said ingredients and well worth it for the price. I personally had it for both lunch and dinner and while it's not as big as some of the other spots (being more similar to Tavola but a bit larger,) the flavors were far better. Very good spot. #MozzLab is a paradise for all cheese lovers. I want to start off by saying the owner is such a sweet Italian man. He genuinely puts his passion into his work and wants to share it with everyone. They have a machine on site that makes fresh mozzarella daily. MozzLab offers so many goods (high quality ingredients), sandwiches (hot or cold), on the counter you'll see antipasto, grilled peppers, tuna salad, and they have an area where you'll find products from Italy (pastas, condiments). My favorite items from MozzLab are the sandwiches and homemade tiramisu. My go to sandwich has been the Caprese Panino (hot): Baguette bread. My sandwich consisted of Prosciutto, Fresh Mozzarella, and Arugula. The bread was very fresh, and the sandwich was tasty. The sandwich at $13.95 was fairly priced, but the tea at $3.00 was not. Prices at MozzLab are very strange. We recently purchased a few things for an aperitivo with a couple friends and we're shocked that our bill came to $150. Looking deeper at prices and Prosciutto Di Parma and Prosocutto cotto (like regular ham) are priced the same at around 25/lb! Italian Cotto is usually under 10/lb! Plus, grilled artichokes were priced at 25/lb and seafood salad at 30/lb, how is an octopus based salad only 5 dollars more expensive? More like why are grilled artichokes in oil outrageously expensive. It goes on, packaged taralli, 10 per bag (4 at Union Market), olives 20/lb, basic grilled veggies close to 30/lb. Maybe it's me, but it just seems that prices are going up on very random and inappropriate items. Plus, the seafood salad was over cooked and chewy. Save yourself the trip and walk straight to Caputo's Fine Foods. Real prices from an Italian American deli with many imported Italian items. read more

This neighborhood isn't exactly hurting for legendary Italian markets and fare. Within walking distance of Mozz Lab are Caputos, Mazzola, Dafontes, Lucalis, Frankies, G Espositos, Court St Pastry and Ferdinandos (among many, many others). When this is your competition, you must step up your game or face an early exit. It's too soon to tell if Mozz Lab will stand the test of time like these other institutions, but the place is bringing an exciting level of refinement to an established formula. The mozz made on-site is delicious. You can see (and better yet, taste) all the crazy ways Italians have pulled the humble curd into various cheesy delicacies. The contorini or side dishes like broccoli rabe or roasted peppers are bright and beautiful. The sandwiches, above all else, are the perfect platform to demonstrate the power of cheese. The breakfast panini (potato, egg, and cheese) and the porchetta panini are early favorites. The prices are reasonable compared to other sandwich places in the area (thinking of you, Court St. Grocers, or Dafontes). If the owners are reading this, I'd love to see a Hoboken-style, Fiore-esque roast beef and mutz sandwich in the future. read more

The sandwiches are legit here. My favorite one is the mortadella, which comes with thinly sliced mortadella, mozzarella and pistachio spread. The ingredients were very fresh and delicious and the bread was also very good. They have a whole selection of cheeses, salads, and Italian market goods. Every time I go in here, I have to resist overbuying. I usually get my mozzarella from Caputos, but will definitely put Mozzlab into my rotation, especially given its convenient proximity to Mazzola Bakery. read more

Visiting a friend on Saturday night in Carroll Gardens we chose to have pizza at Mozzlab and it was wonderful!! The ingredients were so fresh. Unbeknownst to us it had a gluten free crust which tasted every bit as good as flour, and it was baked outside in a wood fire oven. Along with homemade mozzarella it was delicious!! This place is paradise for those on a keto diet (and maybe also a little bit of hell). Among all the delicious looking carby offerings are sandwiches made on balls of mozzarella cheese. I didn't try the normal mozzarella, but I think this is different. It's shaped like a bagel and it has a chewy texture. I was skeptical but, I'll try anything once and it was INSANELY delicious (and decadent). I had the mortadella. So good.
