This place is such a gem! I've stopped in 3 times now, to get food, food items and gifts. Most recently, I went in as I saw on their social media they sold unique tins of fish (pictured) from countries like Portugal. I purchased tinned sardines, squid in tomato sauce, horse mackerel and scallops, along with a really cute Hanukkah themed card for a friend. I've only tried the sardines but they were awesome on toast. The shop itself is small but carries a good variety of dry goods, and refrigerated items near the back. I've also tried one of their sandwiches and one of their pre prepared pastas which were divine, with the quality of ingredients standing out to me the most. Staff is always friendly as well. Love this place. BKLYN Larder serves the best tuna salad sandwich I've ever had. I want to try everything on the menu.

Popped in here for a quick lunch. I know this spot is a cheese dream but something drew me in at the sound of 'Truffle Chicken Salad'. It is definitely a smaller sandwich, as I normally save one half of sandwiches when dining out to save for later but this lil guy I ate in one sitting. Could have also been the fact that it was delicious. The chicken salad itself had just the right amount of truffle, which is a hard amount to master. It was somewhat light and refreshing for a summer's day as the salad was chilled and creamy. Paired of course with lettuce and tomato, this was a great lunch. The bread could have been a bit fresher, but the nuttiness from the seeded bread complimented the creamy interior well. I would still order this again, though it was on the more expensive side for a small sandwich (I think it was $16?). The service staff was lovely and attentive and helped answer multiple cheese questions for me. I did end up leaving with a 1/4 of cheese to use for ham sandwiches (which I had asked for help with). I've since eaten my selection and agree with the cheese monger that this was a nice choice for this purpose. It went well with ham and mustard and I was overall happy with my experience. I want to use the TooGoodToGo for this spot in the future, I really like that they participate in this program. I'll update as I continue to try their sandwiches and other offerings. :) read more

Excellent spot near Barclays. If you're coming in for a show and want something quick, this would be a great pick. It's got your Brooklyn hipster feel inside with a few tables and chairs inside and out. The truffle chicken salad sandwich was great- it doesn't really taste like truffle IMO but it's still great. The Brocc was my favorite- bread was fresh, sauce was flavorful, broccoli was perfectly cooked. They also have gluten free bread as an option! Incredibly mid and horribly overpriced. Counter people couldn't be less enthused while the place is empty. I got the Italian and it tasted so lame, boring, and dumb. I've been a customer of Brooklyn Larder for a few years. While I don't often visit, when I do, the customer service is excellent. Yesterday I called to inquire about a charcuterie board. I'm attending a picnic event in Prospect Park and wanted a small charcuterie box. I ordered a similar box approximately six months ago for Diner En Blanc. The person on the phone was able to find my information in the system, tell me the cheeses I ordered, and said if I could come in today, I could create a similar item for pick up on Saturday. He said he would leave a note for his colleagues so they knew to expect me. I arrived and explained why I was in the store. The counter person did not know what I was talking about. No worries. I gave her my name and asked if she could look me up in the system. She seemed bothered by the request and told me she couldn't find my information. I needed to know what cheeses were in the previous box to reorder them. After reviewing the laptop, she found my information and referred me to the cheesemonger. David was friendly, gave me some samples, and made suggestions. I went to order the box and was told by the counter person that I could not order it in the store but would have to do it online. I wrote the information down, paid for some items, and left. When I got to work, I went to the website but had difficulty ordering as the item I wanted to purchase was not there. I called the store and spoke to the counterperson. When I told her what I was looking for, she stated, "Oh No! We don't have that. We only have the boxes priced on the website." I thanked her, and she replied, "Yep," and hung up the phone. I expected a bit more from the Brooklyn Larder, given my positive experiences, but that ship has sailed. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I stopped in here on the 30th to pick up last minute gifts for my mother in law. I was pretty excited about the selections, but the end result of this was embarrassment and disgust. Last night, we discovered mold on the sea salt Concord grape jam when we opened the jar. Initially, I wanted to bring it back for return but fam wanted to keep it. Disappointing, especially since I spent around $70 here. Hope this product is removed ASAP and a better process for rotating products and overall quality control is developed for the future. read more

BKLYN Lader is a cheese lover's paradise if there ever was one. I had the great pleasure of being led through a curated tasting of European Cheeses hosted virtually by the owner, and it's really true that food tastes better when you know something about it. We learned about a sheep farm whose herders play mariachi music before the sheep go out to graze on grass, and they believe this calms them and makes the milk and cheese taste better. We also learned that if a cheese is yellow vs. cream colored, it's mostly due to beta-carotene that is consumed by the cow and dissolves into the animal's fat stores and ends up in fat globules in its milk. Yum, right? Though really, the curation of the cheeses in this kit were fantastic. The shelves in their Downtown Brooklyn store were stocked with some of my favorite things, including Darjeeling tea, dark chocolate bars, Mike's Hot Honey, and kombucha. I am a sucker for artisanal products and I'm not sorry. This place is paradise for me. read more

I received a tomato soup, Spanish omelet, chickpea salad, and sourdough bread. Everything was delicious and flavored with the perfect balance of spices. I have been here a bunch. I'll first say it's stupidly overpriced, even for NYC, but particularly for what you get. The grilled cheese for instance is the smallest sandwich you can conceive of, yet they charge $15+ for it because of the "quality of the cheese." Other sandwiches are pretty average. That said the meatball sandwich is excellent. So will I go back? Yes I am sure I will. But I'll be annoyed at the prices and wishing there was another place nearby I could go to instead. read more

This place is AMAZING. Perfect, almost. Came here picked up a few charcuterie, antipasto items for picnic in the park. And they got it all! I really like the brussels sprouts in some chill dressing ( just a hint of spice), the tahini cauliflower, and the duck bacon brioche (!). I wanted the salad version but they sold out. I bet it would be even better! Next time! The service was friendly and efficient. You can pte order and pick up and go in less than 2 mins. Or stayed at one of the two tables outside. I am obsessed with this place! It is conveniently located right on Flatbush Ave in downtown Brooklyn but it is also very unassuming, sandwiched among other shops and apartment entrances. I walked right past it the first time I went looking for it! Upon entering, I was impressed with the sheer amount of stuff available! They have a ton of baked goods, charcuterie things, and about a million different types of cheeses and chocolates! I want to try all of it! Plus you can get prepared food there as well. This is the perfect place to stock up on things for a picnic, party, or a small get-together if you want to serve guests and friends an elevated level of finger foods/small bites. The Gouda, Cheddar, and Manchego were all perfect! As was the sour cherry spread, chocolate, and olive oil baguette crisps (?) I got from here. 10/10 will definitely be back to keep up my constant stock of cheese, chocolate and various spreads. read more

This is a review for the monthly virtual cheese tasting. What a fun event! I really enjoyed tasting the cheese while hearing the story of how its made and what it goes well with. I learned so much I didn't know about cheese. Also, the selection by Bklyn Larder were incredible. I am in the shop once a month and often don't know what to get but all 4 cheeses in the box were solid favorites along with the sour cherry spread. Thank you for introducing these to me. Brooklyn Larder has changed from quality at a price to a complete swindle. We purchased a Thanksgiving turkey from them. It was expensive, but we had bought our turkey from them the previous two years and it was well cooked and good quality. This year they advertised a 10-12 pound turkey for $150. The turkey I got was 6 pounds. That's $25 per pound for turkey! $25! For turkey! We contacted them and were told the turkey shrinks during cooking. Turkeys don't shrink 50% during cooking. A complete rip-off. Brooklyn Larder has decided on a strategy of surviving the hard times by fleecing their customer. Advertising a 10-12 pound turkey and delivering a 6-pound bird borders on fraud. This is the local go-to for craft beer (constantly rotating), meats, and cheeses. They have a fairly extensive hot/cold bar with chicken cutlets, lasagna, meatballs and a variety of pasta salads. The sandwiches are a bit pricey for the size, but come during lunch and get chips and a drink for a dollar more. Definitely basic white people flavored food. The counter person was eh and couldn't be bothered. Ordered a pimento grilled cheese (only option) and tomato soup. After a long wait they told us there was no tomato soup available (but it was in the prepared foods cold case). Got some vegan potato-y soup instead. The flavors were very subtle. The soup could highly benefit from additional seasoning, at least some pepper. The sandwich tasted like grilled bread, can't imagine we'll return. read more

Love, love this place, especially since I'm a huge cheese addict! Bought two breakfast sandwiches (one with bacon on brioche and the other with sausage on a fresh buttermilk biscuit). Both of them were absolutely delicious and the biscuit was perfect -- super fluffy with just a touch of flake salt. The sausage was spiced well and was juicy and crispy on the outside. I also picked up provisions to picnic later in the park. There is a vast selection of cheeses and meats to choose from, and I also got a loaf of tangy sourdough as well. For $15, I bought their "cheese babies": an assortment of different cheeses which is awesome. There are two tables outside to enjoy your food, however they were both occupied so we walked over to some benches nearby. The reason I took off a star was as soon as my husband and I bit into our sandwiches, a bunch of raw egg came oozing out -- see last photo. I would definitely come back, but might ask that they cook the eggs through next time since that's something that is definitely not so appetizing. I looooove BKLYN Larder. It's pricy as hell but carries so many different amazing cheeses. I'm embarrassed that I've made $60 cheese plates for myself at home alone but YOLO right? They make great recommendations on cheeses based on what you're looking for. They carry good sides for cheese plates like jams, dried fruits, nuts, and honeys. They also have a free cookie with purchase as a check in special (please never remove this) and their chocolate chip cookie is to dieeeee for. The new egg sandwich is a big disappointment to me. It's a super rubbery brick of egg and cheese that giggles like jello, like something congealed overnight in a Tupperware container and has a strange taste. I have no idea why on earth you guys would take a perfectly delicious egg sandwich--a fluffy scrambled egg with  delicate cheese--and turn it into something else entirely, except to appear more edgy or unique. I can only speak for myself: this gelatinous brick is gross. PLEASE go back to making the original normal thing. When it comes to time-tested recipes from trusted small businesses, if it's not broken don't fix it. I understand you want to update your food but consider doing it gently, not radically. read more

I did not actually physically go but a team sent my job a Thank You note and along the note was a $300 Cheese/Crackers Platter with roasted almonds from BKLYN Larder. I can honestly say, the crackers were amazing, especially the pistachio crackers. In the platter, there were a variety of cheeses that were all really great and not too strong. There were raisins, grapes, and the roasted almonds that had this amazing crisp char taste to it. The Chocolate Babka bread is also very delicious, it literally melts in your mouth, so soft, and the intricate textures of each bite. read more

I've been here a couple times and as much as I would love to go wild in here and buy 15 things, the place is pricey. That's my only setback. With that said, everything they offer is high quality, so you're getting what you pay for. Some of my fave things to pick up are the cheeses (such a unique, curated selection!) and kombucha or NY beer. Plus, they have great shortbread cookies! The walls are lined with local goods that make for great holiday gifts if you want to shop extra extra local by supporting small NY based businesses and supporting Bklyn Larder! When I first walked in here, I wept tears of joy. Well, I almost did. They have a gorgeous selection of meats, cheeses, oils, breads, chocolates, soups, spreads...all things that make me happy (except chocolate, I don't really care that much about chocolate). The staff is fantastic; they are extremely friendly, and enthusiastic about their product (with good reason). I asked if they've tasted everything in the store, and they affirmed, "We have to know what we're selling." So I'm considering getting a job here. I can't afford to eat everything otherwise, because some items are just out-of-control expensive. And I really want to eat everything. I would do it for the rabbit terrine alone ($20/lb). Barring employment, I'm not sure how to solve this problem. I want to eat here every day and stock my fridge with the entire store. Unfortunately, I have to pay rent. I've spoken to my landlord, but this seems to be kind of a deal-breaker with him. Some people are just unreasonable. read more
