Like, we-think-you-don't-have-a-day-job kind of late. Noon-ish. On a Tuesday. I don't know who their target demographic is, but it's not anyone with a functioning calendar. When you do manage to show up during their elusive open hours, you're greeted by... well, "greeted" is generous. The staff makes you feel like you interrupted their private cheese cult meeting. Don't expect warm conversation -- unless you're the cheddar. There are free samples, which I respect. If you're feeling broke and brave, you could turn it into a little snack crawl. And the cheese? It's fine. Not bad. Not transcendent. Just... cheese. Maybe you'll find something aged and interesting, or maybe you'll walk out wondering if Trader Joe's would've hit the same for less. On the one hand, they have nice cheeses, but the children that work there really don't care whether this business makes money or doesn't make money. I went in there to buy something that I knew was overpriced but when I asked about it, the guy behind the counter said oh I just put it away in the back, Like I just put it away and I don't wanna be bothered with having to get it back out. So I left. And this isn't the first time I've encountered this kind of experience with the employees who I guess the owners feels It's more important that the employees are happy than the customers are happy. i'll take my business to Whole Foods. read more

I was working in the area and randomly came upon this little gem! A cheese shop, omg I love cheeses so much! I had to go in. They were opened only 6 months ago, NEW spot. They have a variety of french cheeses, American cheeses, and European cheeses. I've been looking for authentic Feta forever. They don't exist in your typical supermarket. At least not usually the authentic ones imported from Greece. I found a box here. Never had Feta before but I know it's good stuff. Bought a container, tried some, and to me this Feta was completely out of this world. Since I don't usually come around this area, I saved some to pair them with smoked salmon. Heaven! read more

Small but charming new cheese and charcuterie type shop that is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They don't have a lot of products, but what they do have, they offer in an excellent, high-end, artisanal selection. Obviously cheese, of which they have a wonderful selection, but also a good assortments of olives, as well as a small but incredible assortment of coffee beans. I'm incredibly excited to have the store in the neighborhood. I'm a bit concerned that their specialties overlap a bit with other spots right nearby (e.g., union market, Russo's). On the one hand, the more the merrier. On the other, perhaps one more unique addition (beer or wine, or fresh coffee and pastries, or sliced meats) might set it apart a bit. However, I totally understand that space and equipment for these could be an issue. While you can certainly find similar quality at other spots in the 'hood, this is still a spot worth coming out of the way to visit for its impressive and often unique offerings. read more

Father & son duo decided to open this fine establishment in the pandemic. I found them as I was hunting for raclette for my family Christmas gathering. They had a variety that didn't disappoint. Also, be warned, once you're there you will be so tempted by the gorgeous & delish variety. Found some great gouda & cheese that I've only encountered in Paris. What a treat! read more

The cheese here is soooo fresh and soooo good! I never felt cheese shops were worth shopping at until I tried this store. It's the first cheese shop in the area that's impressed me. Their parmesan reggiano is the best I have had. Better than any local market. They sell a fresh feta cheese that has less salt that is wonderful. It's a wonderful little gem in South Park slope that's worth traveling to. read more

Best Parmesan in the city, by far! Huge wheels of Parmesan help set the atmosphere. Fantastic and diverse cheese selection (and I am a lover of French, Swiss, Italian, German and other imports, as well as excellent choices for those who love domestic)). Great cheese accompaniments, nuts, crackers, and delicious Belgian chocolate covered nuts. Many other goodies from fine olive oils, to coffee, to fine baguettes and croissants--and many other temptations. Very well laid out and an extremely nice staff. I really hope they stay and thrive for a very long time, with cheeses far better than any to be found in an area where some really know the difference. read more

The thing about this shoebox-sized store is that you will most certainly leave with more than just cheese. They have pretty much any delectable cheese-adjacent food you can think of like nuts and chocolate and jams and even halva. I went gaga when I first stepped in here and ended up buying about ten things I didn't need. Consider yourself warned. Onto the cheese: I have never had a problem finding a specific type of cheese here. And needless to say the quality of the offerings here is a notch above your typical grocery store (as is the price, understandably). For the adventurer, you might also find yourself discovering new cheeses as they always have a few varieties to sample. Who doesn't love a free cheese sample? read more

There are very few places to find an interesting variety of cheeses. So I was excited to learn about and visit Cheese Plate in Park Slope. I walked away with mixed feelings, however. On the plus side, there is a decent selection that goes beyond what you'll find in most upscale grocery stores. But it does not come close to the selection (or service) that you could find at Fairway in Red Hook or at Stinky Bklyn. I would describe the place as more of a cheese store than a cheese shop. They sell cheese. No one asked what I was looking for or offered a tasting (or even to help in any way). All of the cheese is already cut and wrapped in plastic, so there's not much else to do, I guess. If you're just looking for something beyond the usual grocery store fridge, you can find something tasty here. Be sure to check the date though. One of the pieces I bought, a Basque sheep's milk cheese that is typically firm, was so hard and brittle that it was nearly impossible to cut (or bite). If you're looking for something specific or to explore a certain type of cheese, you're better off looking elsewhere. read more

You walk in here it's like your in a fantasy novel who's characters live in a cheese universe where nobody believes there's a world outside and that everything you've ever dreamed of exists within these walls. Such a joy to have this shop in the neighborhood. They specialize in cheese and specialty items from the Mid East and Mediterranean. It is family run and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and just part of the neighborhood. I love that they have coffee now. It is fresh and delicious and I love to pair it with the treats they get daily from Balthazar bakery. Also their homemade, poppy seed cake is amazing! read more

Definitely the place to go for discerning cheese and gourmet food aficionados. They also have delicious bread and pastries such as Baklava as well as have gluten-free options for crackers. The store is really well kept and the products are easy to find. read more

My favorite place for espresso in all of New York City. Easily the best value (2$) because it is a really excellent shot. They don't have crockery so i bring my own cup, but they have a nice table on sidewalk if its nice. There homemade items are excellent and good cheese too. read more

I LOVE this place. So many delicious and reasonably priced cheeses. And they have whole wheat and white fluffy pita!!! Like you'd get at a real Middle Eastern place! This is a gem of a cheese shop in South Slope, with a great selection of artisanal cheeses, crackers, chocolate, and coffee. The owners are such lovely and generous people, and this shop is a labor of love. What a great addition to the neighborhood. I've purchased several products multiple times over the last few months. The cheeses are fresh and last a long time after purchase. The two men who own and/or work here are kind and helpful. One of my favorite things about Cheese Plate are the other local Brooklyn products. There's chocolate, coffee beans, jams, pita bread, halva, olive oil, baklava, etc. I highly recommend the chocolate covered pistachios. read more
