If you pay with cash they give you a 5% discount. And if someone referred Nova Express Movers to you, they give you an additional 5%. Terrible company! During my move in December 2022 I was verbally harassed by an intoxicated mover,…read moreincurred over $5000 in damages to my personal goods (to include dropping an entertainment center down the stairs AND dropping a $2000 spin bike), and experienced negligence of personal belongings and a stolen bottle of alcohol. DOZENS of attempts to contact the company to collect on damages went unanswered. I even engaged with the BBB and Maryland Consumer Affairs who were also ignored. I also tried to reach out to NOVA to file a claim for the insurance coverage that comes with your moving expenses, and never received the information to place a claim. A company who doesn't take these situations seriously, is not a company you should trust. I am still waiting on a response, years later! This has not only been emotionally damaging, I have still not been able to replace/repair valuable furniture that was destroyed in this move. The owner was engaged on multiple occasions and chose to ignore the situation. The harassment I received during my move was Disgusting! I was whistled at, stared at, and called horrible names in Spanish during. No one should have to endure that! Not acceptable, ever!

I called about a week in advance and was surprisingly given a 9am slot on the day of my choosing after being turned away by 10 other (more highly regarded) moving companies. I was pretty skeptical, but called a day in advance and even though the guy sounded annoyed, I was confirmed for 9am on Friday, and sure enough they showed up with a three man crew a little after 9am. They were not the friendliest of guys, and I really had no idea what I was signing with all of the paperwork they handed me, but it all sounded reasonable and they moved me out of my old place and into my new place in two hours. I was quoted $110/hour with one hour minimum for travel, and true to form my final bill (pre-tip) was $330. I never felt swindled and those guys were working their butts off. I even told them to take their time driving to enjoy a break and they were there before I was. All I can say is that they exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations; they assembled a wardrobe as promised, moved everything pretty quickly, and even wrapped the TV and other items in protective covering. My new apartment did not have an elevator, but they were HUSTLING up and down those stairs. Everything arrived in mint condition...that's right...NOTHING broke, and I tipped them accordingly. Based upon other's comments, maybe I just got lucky? Who knows, but if you're looking for efficient movers, the three guys I had today were excellent.

They screwed that up completely (no communication with the driver/contractor at all about it and that is on the company). The truck missed its 2 hour window by 2 full hours. No communication at all about this fact from the company and no apologies from the driver at all. This meant we also missed the load-in window at the move-to address. In a town with so many buildings with scheduled load-out/load-in you have to hit your promised widows (or at least come close). The movers themselves were good guys. Polite, quick, and generally careful (one item did get broken). That said, they had the bad sense to tell us they had been up for 36 hours straight. Ignoring the ethics of such work rules, if this was all work for DC Movers, that's insane. All in all, I've had much better moving experiences with multiple other options. Use one of them. There are plenty of better options in DC.

I searched around on Angie's List and this company quoted me the cheapest price. The sales rep responded to me on the day and gave me a lot of detail before asking me to fill out an inventory and deposit. I checked some of their reviews here and they seemed to be very good. Pickup was very professional - They showed up on the date expected and gave me a courtesy call 30 mins before arrival. 3 men showed up in the summer heat and quickly moved my items out of the house into the truck - Andre was the main delivery person. They even provide wrapping tape, covers and extra boxes for loose items. They disassemble over-sized furniture, packaged it and re-assembled them for me at drop-off. I paid the full price of the move up-front at pickup, which was a risk (usually they have you pay 60% at pickup and remainder at dropoff). However the movers were honorable and delivered. Since it was long distance they could only guarantee a moving window of three weeks. But they showed up on the second week, after I sent a couple of prompts. Again I was given a courtesy call a day before and the driver showed up on time the next day. Everything arrived intact as it was when I packed. I think they are especially good for local DC Metro area moves - long distance could take longer. Highly recommend this company for moves.

Overall we had a good experience with Men on the Move. First of all, I looked into at least 10…read moredifferent moving companies in the area and MOTM was by far the most reasonably priced. I got some pretty outrageous quotes (including one for over $1000 to move us out of our 800 some square foot 1-bedroom apartment. I wish I was kidding.) They also don't upcharge you for a lot of things like other companies do. For example, your moving time doesn't start until they arrive on site. Marvin, the owner, was very easy to work with. Because of the availability of the freight elevators at our apartments, we weren't able to start the move until after 3 pm on Sunday. Generally they like to start moves much earlier in the day, but when I told Marvin that the times weren't flexible he said they would make it work. The three guys (wish I could remember their names) arrived squarely in the middle of the time frame they told us. Unfortunately someone in the building was blocking our reserved loading dock for a while so they spent a while just waiting around for him to move before suggesting that they get started on wrapping and prepping things in the apartment (which is probably what should've happened to begin with - oh well). There were a couple factors that were outside of their control (like their truck was too tall to get down to our loading dock, so they had to park outside of the garage and walk things over to the freight elevator), but there were also some other ways we felt they could've managed their time better. All in all it took about 5 hours for the move, but we can't even be TOO upset about that because their overtime charges are super reasonable compared to anyone else. We would definitely use them again.

I'm glad I did, because they were trying to tell me that it was between 12 and 2pm. I mentioned that this would not work because my new building has strict rules, and that they would have to be done by 5pm. The movers arrived the next day at 1pm. Upon arrival, they seemed professional and started to move my stuff out of my old apartment. Some of the movers did not speak English very well, so our communication was a little off, but things seemed to be working out. Even though the majority of my items were packed in boxes, one of the movers seemed to have a bit of an attitude if certain items were not packed properly (like my desktop and monitor). I have an IKEA entertainment center that they would not move because they would have to take it apart. I had to go back an get it at a later date. Its a good thing that I chose to move before the end of the month. After they finished getting the items that they would take, they followed me to my storage unit. They said that they would not be responsible for lamps, and made me put them in my car. They loaded up all of my furniture that I had in storage and proceeded to my new apartment. They put all of the items into my apartment and made the 5 pm deadline. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just used them to move all of my large items. I wish they would have explained thier lamp policy among other things when I made my reservation.

Around 11am I received a call from the main office saying there was a problem with the truck and the movers will be there around 3/3:30. At 3:30 no one showed up so I tried calling the office and there was no answer and the mailbox was full. I called multiple times and then just assumed that no one would show up. When they did show up at 5:30 the person who was trying to move my stuff did not even know what company contracted him. It was one man and his underage son with a rental van who did not properly know how to wrap furniture. I had already found another group of last minute professional movers so I canceled their service right away. Please use another moving company.

Photos attached…read more Baku gave me a great quote to move a few heavy items (dressers, antique furniture, and boxes of books) on 19 May from an apartment in DC to Alexandria, VA. The two dressers arrived HEAVILY damaged. The larger dresser ($1,000) has a three-inch long scuff mark along its rear edge, and the smaller lingerie chest (new, purchased for $660, intentionally distressed to match my antique furniture) is damaged beyond repair on both the front left and front right corners. When moving an antique trunk upstairs, I asked the movers NOT to use the leather handle, as I didn't want it to break. They ignored me. The movers also forgot to take the marble top of an antique side table out of the moving truck before leaving (I called after noticing it was missing, and they returned). Additionally, the leaves on my handmade antique dining room table are now missing. I reached out to the company and they responded with, "Your claim has been approved and we will issue you a $50 refund for each dresser." Highly disappointed and angry -- this level of damage cannot be fixed, $100 doesn't replace the dressers, and the missing furniture pieces cannot be re-created. Would NEVER recommend this company. Pay more money and hire reputable movers who protect your belongings.
