Stopped by mountaineer cafe on the way down to Birmingham, Va. Loved the place. Food was good for the value, won't find any better prices! Fried mushrooms were delicious. All their pies are home made and the black berry pie was amazing. Staff are warm and friendly. Definitely recommend this place as a nice road side stop.

    BLT and fries

I was torn between 3-4 stars. They were very busy and only had 1 waitress. Food was at least 30 minutes to arrive. However, our waitress was awesome and sweet. The BLT was very tasty and fixed just right. The fries were okay but not hot. The onion rings had a great flavor but cold. They were out of the peach cobbler which looked great. Tried the cherry cobbler, but it was not good at all. Lacked flavor and juice. Based on the amount of people in there you could tell it was the local hang out for the town on a Friday night. If you are passing through and need somewhere to eat this is good for that. I would not come back just to eat there.

    Good hometown place to eat!

This a great place to stop in and eat. A good old hometown dinner. Every time we around in this area we stop in. Great prices and good food.

While returning from a family mountain weekend getaway, we needed a spot for a late breakfast/early lunch. Just off the main highway, Bearrr Appetit appeared tucked into the beautiful Lydia Mountain Lodge. The drive up is scenic but very narrow, so expect to slow down and enjoy the drive. The lodge itself is cozy and rustic with a touch of elegance. The actual dining area feels intimate with gorgeous mountain views appearing both inside and with outdoor seating. Outdoor seating is highly recommended--though it was raining during our visit and mostly wet, with some covered tables and seating. Service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was warm and attentive, and Sidney, who served us, was especially accommodating and friendly. Everyone that was working seemed to be focused on service. As for the food--it was fantastic. We ordered a mix of breakfast and lunch items (eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sandwiches), and everything exceeded expectations. Overall, Bearrr Appetit combines breathtaking views, great service, and delicious food in a charming mountain setting. It's a true hidden gem worth the detour. We look forward to visiting again, hopefully as guests at the lodge!

They wrap up the sub on a paper plate with a small bag of chips and a dill pickle spear. The sub was really good - hit the spot. I am more of the crusty style sub rolls fan - but Piedmont used a soft sub roll - which actually worked out quite well. Great sub, I would eat here again. There are 3-4 tables to eat in. As I recall, I did not see any restrooms for customers to utilize - so if that is indeed the case - be aware of that. Service was good. Paid with a credit card. #PiedmontDeli

The food was fabulous and we got the full complement of sides--whipped potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, spaetzle, carrots and apples, potato dumplings, zucchini, braised red cabbage, German potato salad, maybe more (my belly's so full, I'm not remembering well...)--rye rolls, red pepper soup with crab, trout with almonds (yum!). We had a very nice dry German Riesling and. German Pinot Noir. The five of us shared a piece of the amazing German chocolate cake. Our server, Nick, was very pleasant, efficient and professional--good at his job and possessing a beautiful, warm smile. I had an Asbach Sidecar that was very well made. I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say. I disagree with her with every well-seasoned, perfectly cooked vegetable and flavorful rye roll digesting in my belly right now. The Bavarian Chef is a treat. You'd be a fool to miss it!

While we enjoyed the old format, this new one takes the experience to another level. I could go on and on about how much I love this vineyard but you'll just have to check it out for yourself.

It's a beautiful setting, well maintained, and feels more like a destination than just a winery. Inside, the tasting room is clean, modern, and comfortable. They've also got private rooms and event spaces, and you can tell this place is set up well for weddings and group events. The outdoor patio is a great spot too, especially with the views, and it's dog-friendly, which was nice to see. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and everything moved along smoothly. We ordered two wine flights, a cheese plate (added salmon), and two half-baguettes (basically one full). The food was good and nicely presented, no complaints there. That said, at about $180 total after tip, it felt a little pricey for what we got--especially the cheese plate, which was on the lighter side for the cost. The wine was enjoyable, just didn't quite stand out for us personally. With how nice everything else is, it feels like it has the potential to really shine. The outdoor experience was a little mixed. There were quite a few bees around, and while they weren't aggressive, they were definitely a nuisance, and it was enough that a couple nearby tables moved inside because they couldn't really relax. Also, deliveries and service activity happen within view of the patio, which takes away a bit from the otherwise nice setting. Overall, it's definitely worth the visit. The property is beautiful, the setup is impressive, and it's an easy place to spend a relaxed afternoon. It feels really close to being something special.

Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked.
