Came in for breakfast. Great customer service. Food was tasty and great portions for the price. Nonetheless, atmosphere is beautiful and dog friendly!

The food was okay. They were very understaffed but people who works here seems very pleasant and nice. The view is spectacular.

If you are out at Shenandoah national park, you might pass by Lydia mountain. I have SO many times and finally decided to check out whats beyond the bigfoot store at the bottom of it. At the top is the Lydia lodge which also includes the bearrr appetit restaurant. Ive come here twice, for their breakfast and lunch menu. They are serving up some delicious bites. I prefer the breakfast slightly to the lunch because of the prices and portions are better. Besides the food, even better is the beautiful backdrop of the mountains! The patio is must when the weather is nice. It's also dog friendly!!

This was my favorite part of our trip! The view is spectacular.. I mean spectacular. The menu is pretty small but what we ordered was very good. Service was super friendly, I couldn't believe that we were the only table. Love the pup who roams free outside, he was super friendly and sweet!

    Excellent breakfast. Great B&G!!!

Fantastic breakfast. The best B&G I've had in a long time. Wait staff were super friendly and Jumper, the dog, is absolutely awesome!!!

The biscuit was so big and warm had to get another one (: My breakfast was called the south river . I made a sandwich out of it.

The breakfast was amazing , big portions so flavorful. I got this coffee hot chocolate drink with whipped cream and it was just what I needed to start my morning. The sausage takes home made and delicious. The pancakes were so fluffy and the maple syrup is my favorite so far. Our server was nothing but polite and so kind ,you can just hear it in her voice. Will definitely be back on our next cabin trip.

Amazing experience. Only complaint would be the sandwich was a bit small but it did come with a nice salad (not pictured). The breakfasts seem to be the highlight and the majority of the breakfasts are under $10 (I just didn't want breakfast). I came after 11, right after the breakfast rush, and it was so nice and quiet and beautiful. Everyone else outside was also quietly polite and we were all just enjoying the amazing view. I will have to find time to make my way back here while in VA, it's one of the very few places near Shenandoah that really showcase the beauty of the mountains with some great food and friendly service.

A wonderful weekend on a beautul mountain top. We had the best time in the Shennandoha Mountains with family enjoying the Lydia Lodge hospitality, food, music and drinks.

When I say the full experience, I mean it. Bearrr Appetit has it all- delicious food, from the local pasture raised beef burgers to omelets made with local eggs, incredible views of the valley and mountains, and friendly service! The patio out back has the best views! I have traveled here twice from New York and have had a great experience both times, and will definitely be back in the future.

Really lovely place for post hike fuel! We were so hungry after a great day in Shenandoah. Wanted something quick and potentially dog friendly.. the staff here were very welcoming and attentive! We loved the atmosphere it's got a huge open back porch.. beautiful views, great company.

    Beautiful view from our table.

PROS - beautiful venue, pleasant and friendly service, delicious food. CONS - salad overpriced, expired beers, slow service especially at breakfast.

Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked. Came in with friends so we can try everything on their menu, and we were pleasantly surprised on all fronts. Presentation, ingredients, preparation all elements that made our meals great and were evident across all dishes ranging from protein to carb. Details like toasted bread with already spread with butter, perfectly poached eggs, and brioche as the bun of choice were things we peeped. We would have left satisfied if these details weren't accounted for, but we were so impressed this became a revisit during our short vacation. Their space is greatly spacious, with an open drinks station so its just not pretentious. There is even a section in the front to pick up goods made by local artisans. This is a great place to dine in, no notes.

The atmosphere in the dining room was nice and airy. As we were traveling a good distance I decided to get the renowned cinnamon roll to go . I got a take out coffee and was told there would be a brief wait. After several minutes-a roll came out on a plate. Someone asked what I was there for. I said I'm for a cinnamon roll to go. The busy manager said they take 10 minutes After 20 minutes my husband came in to find me -the roll appeared soon after. I'm a quiet type person , I took the roll and left . It was very good. Message -order the cinnamon roll prior to meal.

Once we were seated, I was shocked that they didn't offer or ask if a high chair was needed for my 2 year old. I am used to most places asking when they see small children. I saw the high chairs and just grabbed one myself. The waitress did acknowledge us once we sat down and let us know she would be back shortly. No problem, gave us some extra time to finalize what we wanted. We had 2 kids, 2 adults in our party. I ordered the caramel latte with cold foam, mom ordered a coffee, kids got a lemonade and also a strawberry lemonade. The strawberry lemonade is really good. The latte I ordered itself was pretty good but the cold foam threw me off because it wasn't sweet, it tasted like pure heavy whipping cream thickened. I added Splenda to the top to make that taste like something. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose. For food we had Sticky Chicken which is fried chicken between French toast and it's supposed to have sriracha on the chicken and maple glaze on top, mom ordered steakhouse omelette and the kids did eggs & bacon; French toast and bacon. My mom didn't enjoy her food at all, the filling was not much and she said it tasted very bland. The scrambled eggs for one of the kids also wasn't enjoyable. I didn't try the eggs but can only go off of their word and barely eaten plates. The chicken in my meal was pretty good, the French toast is on thick slices of bread. It was overall okay. I also had grits and they're made mill grits style in case you're a fan or not of that texture of grits. We had to ask for silverware, as did the table next to us I noticed. The waitress was nice nasty in way. Where she tried to be nice with a hint of rudeness, but she could've been just having an off day. We asked for more splenda for my mom's coffee. She never bought it. I got up and grabbed some from another table because we figured she wasn't going to do it. When it was time to pay, she did go over the items first to confirm if everything was good to go, but her delivery and rushing of it was off putting. Like she walked up and didn't ask if we were ready for the check, she just said okay who's taking care of the bill or is it split or together with her card reader. I felt like I had to rush to go ahead and grab my wallet to pay and it was a little intimidating how she stared during the tipping part of it, which I was going to tip regardless of the lackluster service. Overall it seems like this could be a hit or miss place. I probably wouldn't go back but definitely think others should form their own opinions from their own experience

The food was fabulous and we got the full complement of sides--whipped potatoes, green beans, creamed corn, spaetzle, carrots and apples, potato dumplings, zucchini, braised red cabbage, German potato salad, maybe more (my belly's so full, I'm not remembering well...)--rye rolls, red pepper soup with crab, trout with almonds (yum!). We had a very nice dry German Riesling and. German Pinot Noir. The five of us shared a piece of the amazing German chocolate cake. Our server, Nick, was very pleasant, efficient and professional--good at his job and possessing a beautiful, warm smile. I had an Asbach Sidecar that was very well made. I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say. I disagree with her with every well-seasoned, perfectly cooked vegetable and flavorful rye roll digesting in my belly right now. The Bavarian Chef is a treat. You'd be a fool to miss it!
