They have a lot going good. Some of the only pre-made food in town. Local goods. Consistent produce. Unfortunately, my experience with human relations has been a negative deal-breaker. They employ a team of very young girls to do the cash register. Repeatedly of late I have been made to feel very uncomfortable by my interactions with them. It feels like I am being transported back into junior high, but not in a good way. There is a projected underlying narrative directed at me, and these "professionals" feel comfortable being openly rude and inappropriate towards me, and have instigated local gossip, as well If a business is going to rely on child-labor they need to take responsibility for the appropriatess of these employees behavior and not let their business be turned into a breeding ground for local drama and inappropriate behavior. Great place to get really good whole bean coffee. Lots of natural food and skin products too. We tried the cake balls and they are really good (I. The far back cold box area) Prices Seemed about average for this kind of locally owned small business . Was asked if we had a membership card(responded no) but not given the opportunity to get one? Had a case of CBD/Hemp products if that's what your into too. Not a big place but amazingly have just about all you would need. read more

I was so disappointed to be turned away from my old favorite store in Nederland. I always looked forward to coming here and supporting the co-op while buying gifts, snacks or sandwiches, water, etc... I was refused service. I had a mask on, I have no COVID symptoms, and I had my money/credit card ready! They are only allowing members and locals to shop at the store. It was very upsetting. Locals only..... is what the manager said. We have a family property close by that we stay at for weeks at a time. They will not allow you to enter unless you are a LOCAL!!!! Turned away my pregnant sister in law! After speaking to the manager, I now realize that this co-op is pretty awful. Supporting this business is supporting exclusivity. Standing outside waiting for a sandwiches at the deli next door. Saw pastries inside this Co-Op so I figured I would stop in to grab a few. I was halted and the door by a lady eating with a mask under her chin. She told me it was open for locals and members only. If you're so worried about this virus go inside and eat your meal. Despite me wandering into the store. waiting for the parade of hearses to start at Frozen Dead Guy Days I was seriously impressed with the food Co-op here. I never really thought of Nederland of having one but it makes perfect sense that they do since they are a hippie-ish kind of town. Lots of exotic spices in this shop which I liked to see! I live in Ned, I'm a local and my wife and I are members. We find some good pastries cookies and a few other things that we can't pick up at B&F. However, they've screwed up their membership database and now every time I go into this place I feel like I have to fully identify myself, as they don't accept our membership cards anymore (their database has lost track). Today, a women with grey hair being the counter sarcastically told me to move my items that I just placed near the cash register to the other side of the register where she was. Then, she sarcastically said that if I had paid attention to where she was standing I would know where to put my items for checkout. Really? We pay for this Bull$#!! The employees here need to work on their bedside manners. I absolutely hate going in to this store. read more

This is not just a grocery store co-op. They make fresh burritos in the morning and in the afternoon have lunches to go that are absolutely delicious. Everyone who works there is incredibly helpful and friendly. They also have a gift and retail area if you're looking for something very Colorado. read more

My boyfriend had raved about this place and we stopped to try to get a sandwich. I understand everyone is afraid of covid-19 spreading but this business was open and a man was standing by the door and asked us where we were from and when we said Boulder he denied us service. We only came to pickup sandwiches but how can you be open for business and deny certain people services? Needless to say we will never be going back and advising friends and family who live and travel in the area to not go back either. read more

Ok, so you've probably noticed I'm generous with my five star reviews. But I sincerely feel the businesses I've given these excellent reviews to deserve them. And it's hard for me to believe that nobody has reviewed the Mountain People's Co-Op yet. Honestly, I'm not the best one to review it because I've only been there 3 or 4 times since my family left Nederland for Boulder in the 80s. I was there last month with a friend, and was quite impressed with how this Co-Op has evolved. I was a member at the very beginning, and enjoyed it then as much as I always enjoy getting a chance to go there these days. It was nice to say hello to Jan, who runs the Co-Op still. Always beautiful produce, fascinating selection of frozen foods, remarkable variety of items fit into a relatively tiny space, reasonable prices, even for non-members, which I appreciate. Everything seems fresh, people are friendly here just like in the old days when my family lived in Ned. Yes, the Mountain People's Co-Op is stellar. If you don't live in or near Nederland, it's well worth the drive from wherever you are. read more

This might be one of my favorite co-ops. It's small and perfect for Nederland. They have a few vegan bakery items that I always partake in (tasty). The prices for mountain living is good. It's a must stop and a must-take-treats-to-go place. Love the atmosphere and staff is always friendly. read more

We stopped by here for some snacks on the way to Frozen Dead Guy festivities. I was impressed with the selection for a small town store. Customer service was excellent and I can't speak more highly of the tasty (and gluten-free) dead guy cookies. read more

Owner never smiles...never says excuse me...just rude...smells like poo all the time... Next time you look at the bins...look at the excess crud that exudes from the container...they are never cleaned. The owner rebags, re-shelfs, and re-sticks expiration date labels because they freeze everything...anyone can do that and then charge an arm and a leg. Do you ever wonder why you are paying for things that are split in half? Bagels - pack of 4...rolls...pack of 3...??? You have to wonder why they were given a B rating from the Health Dept for cross contamination. read more

Nice people, good select of stuff for the small space. I stop in here sometimes to buy sparkling water for hikes when I don't want to deal with the B&F Market. However, I got some dried bulk food here once and it was grows. Had moldy cob web stuff on it. Each time I go back and look at the prebagged dry food I see the same kind of old 'hue' to it. So, I definitely think they need to get their act together on this front. Gigantic muffins and cookies in the front. Really good homemade cranberry salsa in the back. I don't like the idea of co-op memberships as I think it is unnecessary paper work and up-front cost. read more

It's so sad that this place is such a rip off to those who are not aware of the false shelf price. The shelf prices are a good example of false advertising. Normally, the price on the shelf is the guest price and then members receive their discount when checking out. After checking out - unaware of how we were overcharged - we went to the patio and tried our purchases. A bit later, we realized what we had been charged upon checking out and the cashier told us there was a sign to inform us of their "method" of pricing. This is a total rip off. No one reads that sign. It's high above your head engraved in wood. This is false pricing, and the tourists and visiting neighbors are paying dearly. It's a shame, because you walk in to the Mountain People's Coop thinking you are patronizing an establishment of hard working, honest, integritous, mountain people. It's not true. It's a rip off. (Not to mention, the new inclusion of Costco re-sales ...) Everyone knows ... when you are a card carrying member of any store - the discount comes at the register. This is down right trickery. The Nederland co-op is awesome. They're small but pretty much have everything you'd ever need. Good local groceries and random odds and ends. Their bakery is amazing. Especially the muffins the size of your head -- totally worth it! The prices aren't low but when you factor in quality with convenience and how much effort it takes to get food to Ned, it makes sense. And becomes entirely worth it. read more

Besides being in wonderful Nederland, I was amazed at how adorable and well-stocked this little place was. Full of local produce and other goods, incense, bulk foods, and just about anything you may need. All of the workers volunteer obviously and they always seem to be hiring! Good to know if I ever move up that way: ). Before checking out, be sure to grab one of their many vegan/gf pastries and a Bhakti chai.
