IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD: On this day, 10/18/2013, as I was emptying my stuff out of…read morea unit my right elbow lightly brushed into an already broken glass on the door of a fire extinguisher that was hanging on a wall in the hallway, that I had reported to the office the week before but apparently it was important enough to them to fix it, and when my elbow brushed up against it my elbow was severely lacerated on the broken glass. Blood was flowing from my elbow onto the floor. I have the photos. I went to the emergency room where they put 7 stitches to keep the hanging skin in place and they wrapped it up. At that time I was my mom's primary caregiver so this severe injury totally impaired my ability to care for her and I had to hire somebody to do the jobs I was doing for her. I contacted the insurance agency that represented the facility on 10/30/2013, Patriot Risk and Insurance Services, and their representative, Lauren R. Ziminsky, replied that they were not accepting responsibility. She went on to tell many lies about what their client said, the manager and assistant manager at that time, said about the incident. She even went as far as to lie that when I reported the broken glass and I described the person I reported it to, which was the assistant manager, either Natalie or Bree, I don't remember who is who but I remember distinctly that it was one of them because there were only two people that worked at that facility, that such a person did not work there. I knew at this time this was going to become a civil lawsuit. I don't know if any of you know what's involved with this but it is quite complicated. First I had to find out who was the true owner of the facility to have that person legally served. I accomplished that. Then I filed the appropriate documents with the court and the process takes effect. I wont bore you with all the details that came next but then the court date was next. I went to court, but the owner did not show up, for some odd reason his son did, but during my testimony I told the absolute 100% truth about what happened. I showed the judge many photos of the progression of the injury through the healing process and I still have the scar to this day to remind me of their negligence and lies, and what happened with the insurance company. Next it was their turn. The owner's son told nothing but 100% lies. He even went as far as saying that I had asked the manager for a job. Now this was interesting. Let me tell you exactly what happened about that. I am an electrician and when I go into a business I hand out my business card and tell the person I hand my business card to let me know if they ever need any electrical work done to give me a call. That is exactly what I told the person behind the desk at the storage facility, again it was either Natalie or Bree, but the owner's son took my words, spun them around and made it sound like I was asking for a job. Do you see how pathetic people can be when they lie to deny responsibility? I knew this was going to be tough going up against an insurance company and a storage facility but I was confident that with me telling only the truth, and him telling only lies, I would get some sort of compensation for my pain and suffering as well as lost wages from not being able to accept any electrical work during the healing process as well as something for what I had to pay out to hire somebody to care for my mom. Then the letter came from the court. THEY OWED ME NOT ONE F$$$$$G PENNY. As much as I was upset about this, it even made my mom cry, I had to accept the ruling because civil lawsuits do not accept appeals. The only joy I get from all of this is every time I drive by that storage facility I make sure to slow down just a little bit, stick my hand out the window and give them a BIG MIDDLE FINGER. My advice to all of you is if you rent a unit there, either get your stuff out now or be very careful not to hurt yourself on their property because they will always deny all responsibility. Well it's the end of the month and my mom had to once again basically hand over her entire social…read moresecurity check to this company because of these excess late fees that are gouging her dry. She is on a fixed income but they do not care. She literally can not pay her storage until that time and they refuse to make any type of reasonable accommodations as it relates to her due date to coincide when she gets her social security check. My mom unfortunately lost a lot of things in her life over her years moving around when she lost her home so she now has two storages with this company. One storage was opened years ago and the other storage was recently opened. But this company has told my mom repeatedly that both her storages are "linked" together. I've never heard anything like this in my life, ever. How can you link two storages together that were opened years apart? It does not make sense to me. So while my mom wants to be rid of the first storage she can't because they've told her repeatedly and have expressed that in their contracts. This is according to my mom: So now this is even more alarming because it seems like there's some confusing and harmful contract language in their contracts. My mom is almost 80 years old, disabled, and is under fear of losing her things if she doesnt pay both storages. Something just does not feel right here with these business practices that are seemingly predatory in nature. Late fees, pre lien fees, and lien fees are all charged on my mom's account at the end of the month because of this and it pains me to see it. I'm really unsettled with the language in their contracts and if it's taking advantage of especially our most vulnerable then this is seriously an ethical problem. I intend to keep digging for answers and additional help, but I'd be careful doing business with these people and definitely watch the verbiage in your contract. I've even talked to other storage company's and they said two storages are NEVER linked together, so I have no idea what is going on here and it's deeply troubling. Maybe I should contact the BBB about this too.
