We knew our AC was on its way out (30+ years old). Alex came out and confirmed that it was not worth trying to repair and that we would save money with an updated and efficient system. He didn't oversell us on anything and was very helpful in determining what would work best for us. He removed the old system and hooked up the new one within the week. Just in time for a heatwave! We also had a tankless water heater that was at its end of life which he replaced at the same time. Let me start off by saying I never expected my broken A/C unit to be fixed the afternoon the day before before the 4th of July. So I came in from doing yard work took a shower and it felt warm in the house, I checked the thermostat and the condenser unit was running but the blower motor wasn't working . I unplugged it and plugged it back in, the motor ran for a minute then shut off. At this point I knew I hd quite an issue on my hands. I made a few calls and was met with answer machines and "we'll see you in two weeks". Alex called me back and said he wasn't working today but he'd come take a look at it. He was here in 1/2 hour, he lives right around the corner. After crawling into my 1930's oven of an attic he found that someone had miss sized the capacitor used to start the motor. The motor was burned out and the thermal overload switch was cutting out the motor. Amazingly Alex had a universal motor and a capacitor he could install. Everything was fixed, and ran great, however since my condenser was running all day today, I had to run the fan only to defrost the coils. Alex couldn't have been nicer, his work was clean and his price was more then fair. I found Mountain Aire Services today on the website Nextdoor. My heater stopped working and I was looking on Yelp which I love, but got fed up sorting through the fake reviews or reviews written by people in exchange for a discount. Seems to be a widespread practice in particular industries like HVAC repair. Several people in my neighborhood on Nextdoor recommended Alex Uribe at Mountain Aire and I am very glad I called. I called Alex today and he came out same day with another fellow (sorry, I forget his name) and they checked the heater out. They fixed it right away, I don't want to go into the details because it was too disgusting but rats were the problem. They also sealed the heater with metal tape and went into the attic and sealed some other ducts with metal tape to prevent further rat damage until I can figure out how to get rid of the rats. I had a totally unrelated handyman issue in my yard that I had no idea who to call about, it came up in passing and Alex said since it was the end of the day they could tackle it. Both Alex and his associate were very friendly and made me feel comfortable. Their price was very reasonable. I will definitely call them for future work because I got a sense that he is honest. One example - we have a weird a/c set-up where it only works on the 2nd floor. A previous HVAC guy said we should install a second unit for the first floor and quoted a few thousand dollars. Alex looked at our unit and said this a/c is extremely powerful for the size of our house and said if we just leave the bedroom doors open the a/c will flow down the stairs and cool the first floor as well. He gave tips on leaving certain vents open all the way to ensure it keeps working. I guess if Mountain Aire gets really popular on Yelp maybe they'll be too busy to do same day service but I still felt like I had to share this recommendation. read more

Alex is great!!! We have had so many different people come over the years to fix the central air and it's just been awful - from not even checking the a/c unit before charging us a bundle for fixing the wrong thing... to not returning phone calls, to having our ceiling cave in because the person who installed it didn't do it correctly... you name it, we've probably experienced it. With Alex I could tell from the very first phone call that it was going to be different. He is communicative, patient, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. He knew what the problem was right away, fit us into his schedule, and we were back to cool and comfy in no time. He came over for the second time today to fix an issue with our heating, that he had to order a part for, and well... just a great guy. When my air stopped working Friday night, yes one of the hottest days so far this year, I knew it would be impossible to get someone to come out quickly. It was already 95 degrees inside at 9 in the evening!!! It was a long hot sweaty sleepless night. Saturday morning, I called four places and the earliest appointment was Wed of the next week. I was with a friend later and I mentioned my situation. She told me she had someone and they were in Monrovia - my neighborhood! I called, and Alex answered. He told me he was finishing up a job and would call back shortly. He DID call back and told me he'd be at my house withing 2 hours. He showed up on time and with a friendly smile even though it was easily 105... and he had to go on the roof to access my unit. Very quickly he got cool air going. He charged a VERY fair price! Shortly after he left, it began to blow warm air again! I sent a text, he called right back and told me he would be right there. He showed up, again with a great attitude, and climbed back up. He worked about an hour more and had cold air blowing!!!! It is going strong and I am overjoyed!! Alex is a true professional, as well as a genuinely nice person. We love our new HVAC system installed by Mountain Aire! Several companies came out to give us estimates. Only Alex from Mountain Aire asked us first thing to turn on the system and then he walked from room to room checking the air flow. He said a house was like an animal and the ducts were the circulatory system. Alex pointed out that ducts should be in straight lines not camel humps, to minimize energy loss. Alex also pointed out that many houses, ours included, had compressors that are too big. (Our old one was 5 ton) We now have a 3 1/2 ton compressor and now when it turns on our lights don't blink and we don't hear an ugly buzzing noise. And we're using far less electricity. Alex explained that Mountain Aire would do the job start to finish with no breaks, so that we would wait approximately one month to begin. Our job consisted of new duct work, a new compressor and a new furnace. The job took four days and Alex didn't deviate one penny from his estimate, even though he encountered a problem under the furnace that required additional work. Alex did an excellent job, worked continuously, and arrived on time each day. (The system passed the HERS test and was permitted and approved by the city of Los Angeles.) It just my luck that the air conditioner in my unit decided to gave up during the hottest week in July. So I called myg land lord to have someone to check on the AC and he gave me Mountain Aire AC repair number, so I called him.Alex was courteous and give me a day when he will come to check. Alex came out to my house and repaired a broken A/C unit. I called him and asked him if he could come out sooner than we had scheduled because I am pregnant and was having a hard time dealing with the heat. Not only did he come out the very next day, but it was a Sunday and he came early in the morning. My air was working with in a couple hours and my house is nice cool now. When our central air quit on us last fall, the first guy that came out correctly diagnosed it was the capacitor, but he replaced it with the wrong voltage, and it burned the motor out. He replaced the motor but didn't know why it didn't work. He wanted me to pay for the parts; I wouldn't, so he went away. The second guy said it would cost $1000 to replace the whole unit, which we couldn't afford, so we had no air conditioning for half a year. During the current heat wave, we were like dogs locked in a station wagon. My church agreed to pay for a replacement unit and asked for bids. The first guy said $3200! The second one was from some home improvement outfit and said the furnace needed to be replaced too, or it would break down within three months of installing a new AC unit; he wanted $12,000! Alex was recommended to me by a friend from church that I just happened to tell what was going on. Alex came promptly, looked it over, and started clipping wires, capping them, and re-plugging things together. In about 20 minutes, he said turn it on, and voila! It worked. He said everything was there, but it was just put together wrong! He put in a couple of pounds of refrigerant and gave me a bill for $350, worth every penny. It works phenomenally now. He says it is good for many years to come. I cancelled the next bidder who was on his way; it was the same guy who quoted me $1,000 last fall. At last, an honest, highly competent workman. Alex Uribe is terrific. He took my panicked phone call--I assumed my furnace was shot--at 8:15 p.m. last night and was at my door as promised by 11 this morning. In the meantime, I realized the problem was no gas, which he said was likely due to the emergency shut-off valve getting triggered. He reset it and showed me how to do it for next time, reset my hot water heater (I didn't know how to do that, either), explained the dynamics of my hallway air return, and didn't charge anything for his time and expertise (I tipped him). He's the kind of generous, competent, and even-tempered person you wish would run for a certain high-level government office, but we really need him to continue to serve the public in Northeast L.A. and the San Gabriel Valley. read more

Alex came out a trouble shot my old AC with real skill. I am an Electrical Engineer and he was truly trouble shooting the problem with schematics ect. It is really refreshing to see a pro finding the real problem and not just wanting to replace every thing. He got the old unit working and it held on for a few years. I thought it would take a lot more than replacing an old transformer and reconnecting the old vents, but Alex diagnosed every real problem and fixed it all in less than 2 hours!
