I can't figure it out first of all it's expensive, the staff needs to learn customer service. ...Slow down and listen to what the customer wants, serve one customer at a time. I've been to this place two years ago and I thought I liked it. Something has changed. They don't serve bagels after 11am unless it's a "specialty bagel". The end result was hot coffee and loads of sugar baked products for breakfast not what I was looking for.The young lady with the colored hair got the order incorrect and then huffed and puffed because she had to refund her mistake. If there's multiple reviews regarding the condescending barista with the pink hair, maybe she should be fired? While we were waiting for our food and coffee the way she talked to her coworkers was honestly appalling. Was condescending and talked down to the sweet cashier the entire time. Customers could tell she was uncomfortable. The cashier gave the barista my order, I saw her use different flavoring and heard the cashier say "no I think it was supposed to be almond". The barista told her she was wrong and continued to make my drink wrong. I gave it a shot anyway but mocha and almond are very different. When I kindly stated it tasted a little more like mocha and if I could try something else, they charged me for my new drink. Please have a discussion with this woman! read more

Being a baker, I had to check out one of the Bar Harbor bakeries and I'm glad I chose this one. The coffee was a nice bold brew and they had oat or almond milk to choose from if you're dairy free. There were several pastries/cake slices for breakfast choice amounts other goodies, fresh baked bagels with toppings or as a sandwich, and some in house made pies. Reading about the local Maine wild blueberries, I had to get a blueberry pie. I also chose a slice of pumpkin chocolate chip cake, (this was awesome & very similar to the recipe I used to make), a flourless brownie and an everything bagel. The pie was good, there wasn't a crust and the topping was a pecan crumble. It had great flavor, (a little too heavy for my liking), which pushed down the filling in the center so beneath was barely any fruit. I would definitely try the top crust next time. The bagel was great, the brownie was bad. I couldn't bite into it, it was a side piece which was over baked. I returned the brownie the next day,(I thought they should know about this as I felt the same when I had my shop), and they graciously understood and offered me any replacement. I chose another bagel as my husband enjoyed the first one so much. I highly recommend trying out this bakery, it's rare to find a scratch made bakery with great coffee and great service! read more

This place is so cute, has great coffee, and amazing pastries. We had bagels and banana bread while in Bar Harbor from here. Both were excellent. It's a great location to sit and read and rest, or great for grab and go. Highly recommended. Would go back every day possible. read more

We were there before 10 am on a Friday and the place was mobbed - but also didn't seem to be suffering from any lack of help. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese, my wife a bagel sandwich. We waited a total of 45 minutes and about halfway through the wait, a woman came out to say they were out of everythings. So no problem, I'll have the sesame, I told her. And, could my wife switch hers to cheese? Okey dokey. We waited some more. A nice collection of bestsellers were available to us but I couldn't focus, not least because I couldn't believe how many people sitting inside were unmasked. When we did finally get our bagels, my wife got what she wanted. Me, I got the sesame alright, but with eggs and cheese added to the cream cheese spread. I'm sorry, I'm not a purist - I'll gladly eat my bagel with peanut butter, with plain butter, even as an egg sandwich (apologies to my Hebrew ancestors) - but what kind of nitwit adds all of this together? There was no sense in complaining and I didn't want to embarrass anyone - the staff are unfailingly pleasant - but I had to scratch my head about this: who doesn't know that there is only one other thing which gets paired with cream cheese on a bagel : lox (which wasn't on the menu) read more

Very disappointed after all the great reviews. Took 30 Min get our sandwiches as this is mainly a takeout place, so better to call in your order ahead of time. Worst grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had!Bread was not at all crispy and they used a white cheese, maybe mozzarella, that had no flavor. This wonderful little coffee and pastry shop in downtown Bar Harbor was a favorite stop for our family during a recent vacation. The coffee is delicious, the service superb, and the pastries about as good as they come. Grab one of their famous Blueberry or Chocolate Chip Scones for breakfast, then come back in the afternoon for an amazing Lemon Bar or cupcake. They also serve bagels and sandwiches, and have a small indoor dining area and a handful of outdoor tables. I only wish they were open later in the day, so I could stop in for an after-dinner dessert and coffee. read more

Visited three times in 3 days during a recent visit to bar harbor. They are taking covid seriously and that's good to see. But after 2 good visits, I was really upset by the way the owner treated me on the third day, and we didn't go back. They have a system where you can either order in person then wait outside for it to be ready, or you can order online and just pick it up when you arrive. I thought I was doing right by them using the online option: reduce human contact, less lines and interaction, allow them to better manage their orders, etc. Anyway, I ordered just 2 black coffees. Super easy, right? Just pour it into cups and you're done. We arrived about 5 min after ordering, they weren't ready so I waited. Anyway after about another 5 minutes I noticed people who had arrived after us and ordered in person were leaving with items like food and espresso coffees - items that have to actually be prepared. So I decided to ask if our order was lost or something. I patiently waited in line and when I got to the front asked, "do you have an order for 2 coffees from online?" The woman basically yelled at me to get outside and wait until it was ready?? Just so rude and unnecessary. Can't she just say, "oh sorry let me get that for you now." Like a normal person would? Free wifi which is awesome since my phone lost signal most of the time while in the area. This was the best! We picked up a delicious breakfast to take to Cadillac Mountain and the egg sandwich on an homemade English muffin was the best I've had! There was a line out front that moved quickly and was definitely worth the wait. Love it. We visited quite a few bakeries on the island during our stay. Mount Dessert Bakery is by far our favorite. Great variety, everything tastes great, friendly, clean, and a little sitting area if not grabbing to go. It's our first stop on the way to a hike or vista. We'll miss you when we go back home! Spent 5 days in bar harbor just before their season began. Finding places open for breakfast proves tricky. We ordered online from this bakery 3 days in a row. The first day was great, walked in our food was ready and tasted great. The second day went the same except for this is how I found my breakfast sandwich (see picture). The third day had multiple issues, only English muffins available, they had not made our coffee, two of the four pastries ordered were not available. After picking up the sandwiches and noticing that the rest was not packed, we discussed with staff about the missing coffee and they told us to choose two replacement pastries. Turns out only one was needed for replacement, staff had not realized one was still available. A new pastries was chosen and those two were packed, but the original two were forgotten, again. Staff does not know the difference between sticky buns and cinnamon rolls. The food was good, the staff is aloof and lacks discipline to be thorough. All was on receipt, yet only a small portion was packed. The burnt bagel suggests that staff believes this is acceptable or they can pull a fast one on a take out order. I understand it's a small town in the far north east and may not have the standards I'm used to, however this small town has outrageous prices for everything from food to lodging, it is a vacation town, therefore prices ought to reflect professionalism. This spot is amazing. We got here bright and early before heading into Acadia and this was the perfect breakfast to bring with us. I had a chai and some pastries (pumpkin donut muffin was amazing!) and all were delicious. Everything in the bakery looked wonderful and we easily could have walked out with one of each. My wife had a bagel and said that was great too. We'll definitely be back when we're in Bar Harbor again! read more

A top quality cafe anywhere. Ordered cappuccinos, bagels sandwiches and some blueberry pastries. The sandwiches were great, especially the sausage which seems to come from a local farm. The pastries are the highlight, however. The scone is perfect in texture and moisture and the coffee cake is generous with blueberries.
