My son is doing a camp down at Salt Creek so I stumbled upon this place on accident as I saw a sign for a sandwich hut. I had no idea Moulin was a food place. Perhaps some better signs to attract more people. Anyhow, I ordered the apricot crepe and had a coffee ot was so delicious and perfect! I went back the next day and had the Nutella crepe. I shared w my friends on Fb & only 1 person knew you were there. Doing again today with a friend. I look forward to trying so many of the items on menu. What a gem this place is! I never take the time to write reviews, but it felt right to do so after coming to Moulin yesterday. I've been wanting to check out the new store for a while now. I really like this location. The product is great, consistent and authentic. The staff... on top of it. The atmosphere takes you far far away from OC, and I'm always amazed by how well the Moulin stores are designed. Once again, they nailed it! We came by Sunday morning, the place was so crowded but that's the price to pay for getting real food nowadays I guess. Overall we didn't wait too much, the servers seemed to know every customers and were speaking in French to half of them. The vibe of this store is so buzzing and exciting that you leave full of energy. Thanks to a couple regulars, we ordered the NUMBER 1 item on the menu that we had never tried before: THE CROQUE MADAM! A MUST! The thing is unreal, it was cooked perfectly, arrived at the table within less than 10 min. we also got an omelet that was BOMB! I love coming here since the location is so close to my house and the food is delicious! I've been here so many times and every time I come, I make an excuse for the woman who rings me up. I've tried so many times to make conversation with her as she is always the one I see when I come, but she is not friendly at all. Super short answers, always acts like I'm bothering her. Well today, I placed an order for an iced coffee with a splash of almond milk and the nice barista was making it. The younger lady around 30 years old with black hair came and told her that she can't make it the way I wanted, when I said, "I just want a cold brew" she so rudely said, "we don't do that here." I would definitely understand if that's not offered here, but the way she said it, her tone, her facial expression, was all so disrespectful. I'm not sure if she's racists against me personally, or this is how she is with everyone. It's a shame to have such poor customer service at a nice cafe 5 mins from my house. I also was there with my 3 year old daughter and baby. Afterward my daughter asked me, "why was that lady so mean?" I had to explain to her, some people just aren't friendly, and that doesn't mean we did anything wrong. I even told your staff that everyone is always so kind, except for this one woman. So this review is for her. I really hope management can have a word with her, because I really feel that she is prejudice against me as a Muslim woman in a hijab, and I won't tolerate that. It's like a little slice of France right here in Orange County! The coffee was fresh and piping hot, and the crepe and almond croissant were both extremely authentic; light but also rich w/o being too sweet! Their prices are also very reasonable and the employee said they bake all their goods daily at their Newport location, and you can really tell! I would also add that their Orange juice was fresh squeezed and a perfect addition to the breakfast! I will definitely be back, I really liked how they made my coffee strong and just bc the to go cup is a certain size they didn't feel the need to fill it up all the way to the brim with milk it was perfect drink! I came on a Monday morning and it was moderately crowded but I can only guess with their location and food that it probably is a zoo on weekends; at least it should be! This was a great addition to any beach outing I think also taking a pastry to go and eating it at salt creek would be a great combo too! read more

Went here when on vacation in Dana point and sat outside. Ordered a Nutella crepe for my kids a French onion soup for myself and a sandwich with an egg for my husband. All the food was really good! This is in such a cute little island plaza location across the street from the ritz. I live down the street and only ever been here when it was a different business. Luckily one day I was craving French food, and it popped up when I investigated places in the area. I can only speak from experience so here's what was good; pan chocolate, all the cakes and pastries and the smoked salmon baguette sandwich. I shouldn't be telling anyone this because i want there to always be enough for me but the jams and little tartlets in the middle island of the restaurant is kinda the best thing since sliced baguettes. read more

My husband and I were there last Sunday order L'Omelette Moulin and La Quiche Lorraine of the breakfast, those dishes should come with mixed greens, and they only gave us one. I asked but the waitress said there is only one. We use to go Bristol Moulin where has many people and service is great but Dana Point service was horrible! read more

Such a let down. The food looks amazing and the pastries are absolutely gorgeous. We were disappointed at the "no substitutions " policy. I couldn't substitute goat cheese in an omelette, they wouldn't let me order goat cheese on the side, and we couldn't order a side of roasted potatoes. What the heck? 99% of restaurants will provide for the customer with accommodating service. Not Moulin. If you want your food "their way" this is the place for you. If you want amazing service, go to the Ritz Carlton next door. Amazing food and amazing service. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. We visited it yesterday for lunch around 1:15. In a nutshell, very poor lunch items selection, very bad service, and food quality in relation to cost is very poor. Even their coffee (espresso) was well below a low average! Interestingly, this morning I heard from a friend who told me that they also went there for.lunch and their experience was identical to ours. I've been to other Moulin locations many times before (Laguna Beach and Irvine), and it has always been below average, at best. However, this new location appears to have opened without the necessary preparation and training. We will never go back to any Moulin, there are so many other cafes and coffee shops out there! read more

Do not come here if ur young or not rich. Let's be honest here. My husband and I came this morning for breakfast. Not only did they forgot my husbands sandwich, when he went in to ask where it was, they had definitely forgotten his order even though we had paid. They asked him what he got even though they could have checked his ticket order under my name to see. But they didn't. Once he told them what he had ordered, they still gave him the wrong sandwich. So not only were they annoyed with us for coming back inside (for no reason), they had forgotten our order and gave us the wrong sandwich we paid for even though we told them again what he had ordered. This place is overly priced for the service and food you get. Don't be tricked by it's French atmosphere. You can get better. Went here for the first time today. The staff was extra friendly, food (ham and cheese, apple tart, coffee) was delicious. Seating was easy to get even though they were a little busy. Stopped by Moulin for breakfast while my mom and I were waiting for the rest of our party over at Salt Creek Beach. I ordered La Crêpe Complète and Le Croque Monsieur to-go. They were both really good. I was surprised how light the fillings were and that the béchamel was light and not dense or heavy at all for La Crêpe Complète. Also tried some of my mom's Le Croque Monsieur and that was also tasty as well. Both were well-seasoned and mild despite the cheese and the ham added in. The meal also came with a side of salad, which was good as well but I would go easy on the dressing since it tends to be pretty vinegary and acidic. Overall, great food and would definitely visit again whenever I get the chance to stop by. read more

I enjoyed visiting Moulin Laguna Beach so I am so glad to see a location open near me. There is certainly a dearth of good, consistent, worthwhile places to dine and spend my money and Moulin fits the bill. I stopped in yesterday for breakfast and had an Omelette Paysanne, with Gruyere, ham and potato. Fluffy and light like always, a little light on the salt, but well made. Salad greens were a great side, with a nice balsamic vinaigrette, though it was a little on the thick side, though that's probably from holding it refrigerating and the oil was setting up. Coffee was excellent too. My one observation as a bread baker and chef is that the bread they served had a very tight crumb and, IMHO, wasn't risen enough in the middle. Good firm and chewy crust, but almost a doughy crumb in the center. Though it has some very minor and easily overlooked flaws, this place is a great addition to the area. Get there early on a Sunday morning and you will get fresh, hot croissants out of the oven instead of getting there a few hours later and having to wait on a very long line. But it might be worth it! Usually with new openings you get the typical slow service, etc. that come with the adjustments of newer staff, but not here. Oh no Not up in here! Ever the Moulin fans, we went to their grand opening of their newest location and were not disappointed. In fact, we actually preferred the patisserie selection there compared to their San Clemente location; it seemed they had more to offer. The location is very convenient, as there's not much in the way of good quality cafes within a mile of that location. We look forward to adding a new Moulin location in our rotation when we're back "home" visiting family. read more

I have been wanting to go here since our summer plans to go to London and Paris were cancelled due to Covid-19 . It was amazing the panini sandwich I ordered was fresh and full of flavor , my mom had a crape with apricot jam, and she said it was delicious! The warm mochas were so good with that cute block of chocolate you drop in the cup !! We sat outside Saturday afternoon weather was perfect! Almost as good as Paris!! Well the food was!! We were there at Moulin, Dana Point. Enjoying a beautiful day, service is great, food is amazing. Could not believe the audacity of this person that was complaining that the doors needed to be open because his wife won't come in with the doors closed. The manager was very patient with him, explaining that the air conditioning has to be on because of the pastries and refrigeration, oh and because it's really hot out side. Amazing Place! The food is delicious, and the location is perfect! Came in Thursday for a snack after my workout at Salt Creek, right around the corner, and I left with a whole box of pastries..! I was welcomed by the nicest staff, and a young lady with the cutest accent helped me choose between cakes for my daughters and grilled my panini, right before making my latte. Multi tasking at its finest I kid you not I was impressed! The panini was just the right way, and I was honestly pleasantly surprised by the calm atmosphere, it takes you to France the second you walk in. I almost never write reviews but I had to show my support to this cute coffee shop during this troubled time for businesses! My daughters loved the mille feuille (I think that's how you write it), and my almond croissant was heavenly! 10/10 would recommend! read more
