This is an amazing beer bar if you are looking for great beer served properly. The staff was knowledgeable about the products. They have 24 tap lines with I believe 22 being Belgian or Belgian style from Europe. All of the beers were poured properly and in their beer specific glass. They had games to play at the table, and nice outdoor seating areas both in front and in back of the bar. This place is the bomb if you enjoy Belgian beers and accept that they're going to be fairly expensive because they had to travel a long distance to get to the middle of Texas. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about their beer. I would've said 4 except they bill themselves as something that they aren't quite. Their website bills says they specialize in Belgian beers and local craft beers and ciders. To be honest, I don't know why Yelp lists them as a wine bar; I'm pretty sure there is next to no wine. Moreover, for a place that says they have local stuff, they don't do anything to identify it, something that basically every good bar in Austin does (typically without making a big deal of it--welcome to Austin). They do have a good collection of Belgian beers (both in bottle and on tap). Expect to pay a minimum of ~$6-10 per glass. We found out from the bartender that they occasionally have events with free glasses, but I'm not sure where you're supposed to find out about them. read more

This is a true downtown gem. Away from the hustle and bustle of Congress, you can find an amazing selection of Belgian and local beers. The staff is fantastic, with an encyclopedic knowledge of craft beers and Belgian beers specifically. A bar set up in a narrow space defined by brick walls and old style framing is a treasure in downtown Austin. Together they make Mort Subite a mellow place not to miss. Love that we have this in Austin. My husband and I have been to the original Mort Subite in Belgium!. Love the beers and they are served in the correct glasses. Like the dark wood and brick look of the place, and bartenders are nice and helpful. Give you samples if needed to help decide. read more

If you're into the Belgians as I am, you may be inclined to find yourself here quite frequently. On a recent weekend evening, we biked down here and found this place to be almost completely full. We snagged the last table after we checked out their surprising bonus patio. The bar is long and narrow and I'm pretty sure this was a wine before it became the only Belgian bar in Austin. They boast over 20 Belgian beers on draft, 40 Belgian bottled beers, Belgian spirits, a couple of unique ciders, and a small handful of local beers. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and let us try out a couple beers before we committed. Which was very convenient since the beers require some deep pockets. Our two beers (which weren't even pints) cost $17. We enjoyed our beers and the beautiful, inviting space. They don't have any food so don't come hungry. I would definitely return to share a bottle of some Belgian brews. read more

Fantastic Belgian beer selections, multiple different types of beer. This is a great place to grab a beer before or after dinner and has a great feel to it.
