I attended a EuroCircle event at Mort Subite a couple of weeks ago and it was a lot of fun! They said they didn't make martini's so I assumed they didn't have gin or other hard liquors. They did have vermouth and beer offerings. Inside was a dark long hall type of set up with numerous tables. They had tables outside near the front of Congress and some in the back. We ordered food from the food truck just outside the back entrance that we pre-ordered and picked up when we got there. The vermouth options were very interesting and the servers seemed very knowledgeable about the options. I don't drink beer and since they didn't serve martini's I had limited choices for alcoholic drinks. The vibe was fun but it was a bit hard to hear each other inside so it was nice to have the opportunity to step outside and enjoy the nice weather and have a few convos.

What a great downtown spot. I absolutely love that it's named after or in homage to a pub I visited in Brussels. In fact, it was a great reminder of my time in Brussels. Stepping into the front door was like stepping into old-world Europe. The decor and vibe down to a "t". They have an extensive selection of Belgian pours that I've not seen available in the United States in a long time, or if ever, for some of them. The food was really good too but I'll go into further detail on the food truck page. I'm still blown away with the incredible pour menu. I think the fact that they go a step further and serve in proper glassware speaks volumes. This is a pub that attracts locals (like us) as well as tourists. It's gonna be a staple on our social calendar.

This is a bar that serves Belgian beer. There is no table service so order at the bar. If you are hungry, there is a food truck near the back patio that has food like croquetas and tortas. We had an order of the croquetas de pollo which were tasty. I had a Duchesse de Bourgogne sour that was really good. The back patio was quiet and more pleasant than the outdoor seating in the front.

While waiting for a concert at ACL Live we decided to grab a drink at this spot, and we had a lovely time. The staff was exceptional, the beer was flavorful, and the experience was delightful The bar is well decorated, and makes you feel like you're stepping into a cozy yet trendy Belgium pub. There is also front and back patio seating if you want to enjoy your libations in the fresh Austin air There are dozens of beer to choose from. Many on tap, some bottles, and a variety of seasonal beers. It's also fun because they have so many different types of glassware, and they will give you exactly the glass you that works for whichever beer your order Some tips: Ask the bartender what they suggest. They are a wealth of knowledge, and they obviously take a lot of pride in their work Cheers!

This bar took me back to my old traveling days through Belgium. MJ was amazing at the bar! She served me a cold Duvel and a Duvel 6.66. The food truck expertise is food from Spain. I really enjoyed the jamon and manchego sandwich. I will gladly return! Ps it's dog friendly patio!

Stopped in for a couple of beverages during our walking tour of downtown Austin! What a great little bar! Great decor, nice little outdoor seating area. Hubs and friend had one of the Belgian beers on tap (it was a St. Bernardus) and really enjoyed it - well poured by the friendly bartender! Although the focus here is definitely beer, there were a few decent wines available as well for me. Would definitely return! (Although there was a Reddit post that stated 10% off the whole month of February and the bartender said it was really for only one weekend!)

Driving through downtown Austin with a friend of mine looking for a good place to enjoy a beer or two. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Mort Subite sign. Saw it too late to stop initially, but kudos to my buddy for being willing to turn us around so we could have a proper look at the place. I should probably clarify (in case Yelp's description or your own prior research didn't already tip you off) that Mort Subite is a true Belgian beer bar. That means a couple things. Firstly, this is NOT the place for you if you're looking for something domestic. To emphasize the point, I should mention that my friend asked if they carry any Hefeweizen beers, which was met by mild reproach from the beer tender. They are, as the kids (probably used to) say, keeping it real. Of course, that wasn't a problem for me since I am a HUGE fan of Belgian beers. No I mean an absolute super fan. And fortunately we were able to find some decent options for my friend as well. The interior layout is definitely appropriate to the theming. Beautifully designed bar. Seating inside is somewhat limited but I was okay sitting outside anyway. A TV near the back but this wouldn't be the place to go if you want to watch your favorite US sports team I wouldn't think. We sat outside since the weather was decent and people-watched. Seats weren't super comfortable but fine for our purposes. I enjoyed a Kwak (or two - I wasn't driving :-)). For those of you new to the Kwak - check out my pictures. The beer originated from back in the days when one would roll up to the bar on horseback. The wooden holder for the oddly-shaped class would be used to set the drink (since having a glass shaped for a table-top would be less useful in that scenario). It's an amber beer that is super easy drinking for the fairly high gravity. So, if you like high-gravity (high-alcohol content) beers that are actually palatable, I recommend you give this place a try.

My fiancé had to stop by after she saw the Brasserie d'achouffe beer sign. She said she never seen this beer in the states and reminded her time in Europe. I can't blame her the beer was pretty tasty! The bar was also nice and clear which was a nice hangout spot on a hot summer day. All paired well with the beers and awesome tunes they had playing.

We came for the food truck out back but had a Kvak and Duvel. it's hard to find parking in most downtowns, but there's a lot right next door. This is now one of my favorite locations in all of Austin.

We stumbled upon Mort Subite while just walking around downtown Austin. They had a good selection of beer. Their Gulden Draak smoke was out of this world! It was a smoked beer, those who like whiskey would be really into it. I have never had something like quite like it before, but Mort Subite has definitely perfected the art of smoking a beer. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor was quiet while we were there. The outside seating was right on the street, so it was louder. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area! A quality place, great for beer connoisseurs.

Stopped by for a quick spell along the way to dinner. Service was quick, beer was good and cold. Definitely like the different ranges of glasses used, and the bartenders were very helpful with anything we needed. I think the nice thing here was knowledgeability with the beer. I had a kwak rouge since that was a nice staple for me when visiting Belgium. He had helped compatriot decide on a beer and matching chalice. Made for a good time. We were both not the biggest of beer drinkers tho if in the area and craving, this seems like a nice spot to settle down for a bit.

And BTW you can only order online with a qr code (this is always a bad customer experience imo). And just like this, the customer service isn't up to part. The fish is fantastic with a crispy hand batter. The fries were the absolute worst. Not crispy and tasted like I took some non name brand fries and threw them in an air fryer. And for $13 I expect more than 4 oz of fish. Sure there were plentiful fries but when they're that bad we both wasted money. But coming back to the service, with 3 empty bottles of malt vinegar and an empty ketchup dispenser and one guy working, of course I'm going to rate the service as bad. I am going to go with a minority opinion here…read more But I am sticking to my guns on this one. I think the Zilker Brewing Company is a terrible brewery. Okay - I only had two of their beers ... so I may have been freakishly unlucky. But since there were only 13 beers on the menu - 2 out of 13 both being bottom 1%-ers is not at all an auspicious sign. Yeah, they were both seasonal specials and not Zilker's mainline offerings. So it could be that the mainline offerings are better. I still don't like those odds. The two guilty beers were a) LA Pilsner which tasted like nothing. The bartender told me that this is a beer drinker's beer. Beer that tastes like nothing so it can be consumed in quantity is called "swill" in my book. b) Culture Creature which is a fruity IPA. This tasted more or less like cleaning fluid. * * * Now to be sure, the Zilker Brewery was unlucky on two counts. 1) I was there for a SXSW showcase. They are an outdoor venue - and the night was unseasonably cold. The Zilker Brewery does not control that. 2) It did not help that the first two bands of that showcase stunk up the house so badly I left the the showcase in disgust. (Including the once-good band I had explicitly come to see.) * * * However, as a Yelp reviewer, I do my best to be fair and objective. I ran into the two-bad-beer problem before I hit the freezing-my-ass-off problem and before any of the bands had started playing. So I knew where I stood on the beer before these other distractions emerged. Suffice it to say, I am not coming back here to drink any time soon.
