Willie and his crew always plate our food as requested individually with the names for easy serving. I ordered chicken tenders as everyone loves those along with macaroni and cheese and a salad. The ambiance is always on point during the ordering and delivery process. The desserts are amazing and everyone loves the red velvet cake. Shout out to Willie for the superb service. Oh! I am a repeat customer and do takeout often for elderly relatives. I'm a fan of hamburger steak with rice and gravy (ask for onions), their fish almondine, fried chicken, and now chicken parm. Do not get the pasta with the chicken parm (bland) and they won't sub spaghetti as it's considered an entree. Favorite sides are carrot salad, carrot souffle, mac and cheese, green beans, greens, and okra. People are super nice serving and line moves quickly. If you're eating in with kiddos they assist in getting everything and everyone to the table. Not loud and family oriented. Holiday orders are also solid and should be ordered ahead either online or in store. Happy they still serve Mobile. We miss the sister mall Picadilly restaurant! My husband went to get take out for dinner tonight. My favorite was the chicken and dumplings. When I opened the container the chicken and dumplings had the turnip greens in them and the dumplings had spilled into the fried okra. He told me he was sorry that He asked the employee to put the sides in separate containers but she refused. I called and spoke to the manager. I told him I tried to eat the chicken and dumplings, but they were not good because the turnips and juice spilled into them. It wasn't good. All I was wanting was to let him know his employee did not do as asked by my husband and an apology for that happening. Instead I was told all was hearsay as though I'd call and tell a lie to anyone. My husband got on the phone and he was told it was his fault. No apology for my dinner getting ruined. I threw it in the trash. It is a shame an employee can get away with no corrections to their actions and their manager blames the customer for them not doing their job. This is terrible customer service. Our society has become the society of no personal responsibility and it's always someone else's fault that they did not do their job as requested. Again, I called for an apology and wanted to be told that he would talk to his employee; instead I was called a liar about the situation because I wasn't there. My husband is not a liar either. Why did he have to ask more than once for proper service? This is why what once was one of my favorite places to eat is hanging on to stay open. FUN FACT: I basically grew up eating fish almondine, macaroni & cheese, greens, and rolls at Morrison's in Gainesville, FL almost every Sunday after church! So when they left FL, my "Sunday-dinner style" restaurant dining never quite fully recovered. So, imagine my surprise upon moving to Mobile and randomly spotting Morrison's signage across the parking lot while shopping at Marshall's. I did a double-take and just knew it wasn't the same Morrison's of old! Well, thankfully, it WAS/is! One glance at the lineup of food, and I was transported back to the 90's instantly! Such nostalgia, such consistency in menu options-- and I'm so here for it! The flavors are still poppin', my fish almondine still hits, and the macaroni and cheese is spot on. Always liked Pacadilly in Huntsville and decided to try this location for something quick. Service was great and choices were good but food was sadly very bland. Chicken Parm my wife ordered was ok and large but not what one would expect. All the vegetables needed something. You can tell they came from a large institutional size can. The fish almandine was ok but kind of tough and seemed over fried. Probably will not go here again. read more

When I saw the sign, nostalgia took over. MC left Florida many years ago and it's still the same as I remember--a very clean family style restaurant with wholesome nourishing quality food. MC was always a special treat for me and my family and I am still in love with Morrison's Cafeteria and I miss their home cooked meals and desserts. All of the options looked delicious on the serving line. I had liver and onions which I have been longing for a while now, and it was very good. Mobile is blessed to have the one and only MC in the country. Coming here today was like going to a museum full of rich history, and I am looking forward to bringing my family here to enjoy memory lane at MC like I did. read more

Stopped and picked up an Apple pie on my way to thanksgiving dinner with family. Apple is my all time favorite pie. This was the most tasteless yucky pie I ever tried. One bite is all I could stomach. Everyone knows how much I love Apple pie. When they saw I didn't eat it and merely slid it to the end of the table they questioned me. I had to tell the truth. This is basically Piccadilly by another name. Has a nice Southern style breakfast buffet on Saturdays. Love the eggs,grits, etc. They have different foods throughout the week for their weekdays. I do wish that they would have more red beans and rice. They used to have it every Friday, but haven't the last few times I was there. They do have other options; but bring my red beans and rice back. . They do have other options like turkey and dressing, roast beef, salads, etc. Choose what you're into. I hope they don't close the one in Alabama because it is still worth the drive an hour and a half away. Everyone was very pleasant and the service was great. Today on Sunday November 25, 2012 Mr. Darrell Farmer and his wife Teresa met Darrell's dad Jimmy Farmer at the Morrison Restaurant located at 3200 Springdale Plaza. The Farmer couple met Darrell's dad in the parking lot of the Morrison's Restaurant at 12:30 and you could tell by the fullness of the parking lot that church had dismissed and people were already starting to pour into the doors of the Morrison's Restaurant. Mr. Farmer, his wife Teresa, and Darrell's dad Jimmy hurriedly went inside and got line to go down the food line to pick what they wanted to eat for this Sunday outing together. Darrell and Teresa both got the almond battered fried fish and Darrell got carrot soufflé, broccoli salad, spinach casserole, Coke a Cola, and a biscuit for his side items and Teresa got green beans, salad, and side salad. Darrell's dad Jimmy got the big hamburger steak with gravy, spinach casserole, side salad, broccoli with cheese, dinner roll, and iced tea. After all three had finished selecting their food choices, they were given a receipt to present to the cashier on the way out of the restaurant to pay for their meal. The three were led by a waitress to a table Teresa chose toward the back close by the men's and ladies bathrooms. The waitress assisted the three in taking the individual plates of food off the tray and removed the tray away from the table. After Jimmy had said a blessing over the food the three began to eat what they had chosen from the food line. Darrell Farmers meal the almond battered fried fish large piece, crispy, and had a good taste, carrot soufflé wonderful, broccoli salad fresh and tasty, and spinach casserole yummy, Coke a Cola tasted good, and the biscuit was warm. Teresa Farmers meal the almond battered fried fish she said was too crunchy and hard, side salad crisp and fresh, Jimmy Farmers meal the big hamburger steak with gravy was great, spinach casserole wonderful, side salad crisp and fresh, broccoli with cheese fresh and cheesy, dinner roll was warm and iced tea nice and sweet. Review: The waitress was prompt, polite and friendly; overall the food was good, hot and fresh with the exception of Teresa's almond battered fried fish that she said was too crunchy and hard, good size food proportions, nice music volume and selection, good management intervention, friendly employees, plenty of room for parking, and cleans bathrooms. I've loved Morrison's for over 45 years. It is preceded Piccadilly's Cafeteria by 24 years and always had the edge on taste and quality. The one location that I know that is still open is Mobile,AL in the Springdale Mall parking lot. It still has the best fish almandine, fried shrimp, and tartar sauce around. read more

This place is a legend. Great, old-fashioned Southern-style cafeteria food is still alive and well at Morrison's. My favorites are fish almondine, chicken and dumplings, and chopped steak. But I've never had anything bad here. The Spanish rice and macaroni and cheese are amazing, but whatever you do, don't pass up the egg custard pie! I haven't been to a Morrison's or a Piccadilly in several years.. 5? 7? More? I had very good memories of both cafeterias. No longer! I ate at the Morrison's in Mobile, AL and it was nothing short of disgusting. Everything tasted of either heavy salt or heavy sugar. Those seem to be the only flavoring or seasoning ingredients used! Smothered pork chop... salty and with a thick goop masquerading as gravy. Awful! Lima beans had zero flavor other than salt. Cabbage wasn't overcooked which was nice but it too was over-salted. Cornbread was decent. Chess pie tasted like a Banquet frozen pie, way too sweet and crust was a sticky, gooey mess. The serving sizes were very large, easily enough for 2 people, which serves their patrons well, I guess.. huge servings of sugar, salt and flour with no taste at all. A Stauffer's frozen dinner is far tastier! On the upside, the server who checked on me while I was eating was awesome! Will never return due to the horrible quality/taste of the food. read more

At the outset, I apologize for the lack of photos. I was on a tour with the local senior center, my camera was in the luggage bin and, as per the tour company's rules, the bin was to stayed locked until we reached our hotel. But there are excellent photos already on Morrison's Yelp page, so please take a look. Morrison's opened in 1920 in Mobile, Alabama and within two decades became the largest cafeteria chain in the country. It's claim to fame was catering to the cast and crew of the movie, "The Greatest Show on Earth." In 1998 the company was sold to Piccadilly Cafeterias and this Morrison's is the last of its kind and maintains the original recipes. Although there were 52 people in our party, Morrison's took it all in stride and we moved through the line quickly. The line servers were helpful and friendly and kept the line spotlessly clean. And that cleanliness carried over into the restaurant and rest rooms. The manager stopped at every table and was genuinely proud to be at this restaurant. Our table server was flawless; this young lady, should she stay in the business, may just find herself in management one day. Since this tour was of the Old South, I let my choices reflect that. I ordered a fresh green salad, smothered pork chop over rice, coleslaw, mac and cheese, "Mexican bread," (corn bread with jalapeños) and for dessert, bread pudding with a thin caramel sauce. Now I realize that some may not feel that a cafeteria should merit a five star review. However, I base my ratings on the genre of restaurant; while the same food at a sit down restaurant may rate only 3.5 stars, looking at Morrison's from the viewpoint of a cafeteria, the five stars are more than deserved. The salad was very fresh with nary a sign of wilted greens. The croutons were flavorful and the bleu cheese dressing was excellent. Smothered pork chops are one of my favorite Southern/Soul Food dishes. Too often the chops are thin and fried to the consistency of shoe leather. These, however, were a good 3/4 of an inch thick, perfectly breaded and fried; they were tender and moist. The brown gravy didn't come from a can or packet but rather from the pork drippings and was excellently seasoned. The rice was cooked in broth rather than plain water, which added another dimension. The coleslaw, although not the best I've ever had (that honor goes to my Mother) was certainly in the top five. The mac and cheese had a sharp kick to it; the sauce was smooth and creamy. The only thing that would have made it better would have been buttered bread crumbs on top but it easily stood on its own as is. If there was a disappointment, it was the cornbread. While not off-putting, the flavor didn't make me crave another piece; the jalapeños stood out, however. The bread pudding was the perfect ending to the meal. The portion was more than generous. It was moist and tasty in its own right but with the addition of the sauce, it was elevated to something special. As for the price, my dinner cost $10.95 which for the amount and quality of the food was a bargain. If you find yourself in Mobile, do yourself a favor and stop at Morrison's. It's the last of its kind and more's the pity. read more

The food here reminds me of buffet food, super dry, the people serving the food were rude and inpatient, I didn't know what to expect when I got in there or how the setup went, and they didn't really want to answer my questions they were rushing me! The corn bread was super dry, the greens are canned and the fried chicken taste frozen! Fish was good tho, and our server was super nice she should have switched places with the people serving the food she should have set the tone for our experience there! I did an online order for her while we were finishing our meal. And the online order was ready within 10 minutes. The original Picadilly, Morrison's cafeteria was once an icon in New Orleans and the last of the locations has seen its best day. Even though this place is packed, the food is mediocre to bad. I stopped here on recommendation of being near the I-65 while driving through Mobile. I know Mobile has better food than this, it better and it does. read more

One Sunday morning, my family and I drove out to this location to sample the breakfast buffet. I think we arrived at about 8:30 AM, and the place was pretty empty (we didn't mind), but granted, it was a Sunday. We chose our table and set out to peruse the buffet tables. I feel like there were plenty of choices to satisfy all of us. They had scrambled eggs (plain or "southwestern" I think), ham, bacon, sausage, hash browns, grits, biscuits and gravy, and fruit and your choices of coffee, apple juice, orange juice, or milk to drink. They also had a station where you could order up a freshly made waffle, pancake, or omelet. And if you needed anything, a waiter was quick to get what you asked for. The eggs were your standard, decent fare. I didn't find them really worth writing home about. I did enjoy the biscuits and gravy though as well as the waffle I ordered. My husband really liked his omelet, especially since he could add pretty much anything he wanted to it. Basically Morrison's serves up a standard, filling breakfast, but what will probably keep my family coming back for more are the prices. You really can't beat how cheap it is for the selection you get (I think around $8 per person if I remember correctly) and that makes it worth it in my opinion. read more

Morrison's doesn't really fit my type of desired restaurant very well, due to my exhaustive experiences with school lunches from grades K-12. But what it does do, is give everybody something they could enjoy, even picky eaters or older people with traditional tastes. I had the fried chicken, which was not bad at all. It was fried perfectly to golden brown, and the seasoning was not bad at all. The cabbage I had for my side dish was pretty decent as well. It had a good flavor and wasn't over cooked to the mushy cabbage that is usually served around this Irish time of year. It had a good smoky flavor and still had some texture to it... not bad at all The macaroni and cheese was surprisingly great. It had a good cheesy flavor, and was all around my favorite part of the meal. I could eat a 5-gallon bucket of the stuff. The staff was friendly and attentive and never let our cups gets low Now would I go out of my way for this place, no. But will it work if you have some picky eaters, absolutely! read more

Usually we don't make it to the Doxology on Sunday before one of us asks the usual question, "what's for lunch?" On this particular day, I was craving good chicken and dressing and that seems to be a hard thing to find in Mobile. We decided to check out Morrison's. The first thing you need to know is don't try to use your Mapquest app unless you care to arrive at your intended destination in the middle of a gorgeous old neighborhood. The beautiful homes and yards are worth seeing, just not when you're starving. It's not hard to find Morrison's. It's on the 65 Service Road on the East side of the interstate between Dauphin and Airport. We made it. The line was long but moved fast. We were given a tray which we slid down and picked what we wanted from the food bar. This is not a buffet. They hand you the food so no one is poking their finger in or sneezing on your food. I like that. They charge per item - well, meat and two sides, plus there's an additional for another side or dessert. You get the idea. The selection is pretty large. I ordered turkey and dressing, two sides and strawberry shortcake. My hubs had fried chicken and three sides. We took our trays to a table and a waitress came by to check on us. They gave us plenty of food, but it was just mediocre. It was certainly not bad, but please stop referring to Stove Top Stuffing as cornbread dressing. It just isn't. The strawberry shortcake more than made up for it though. The price was about $37, including tip, for two of us. That's not bad at all. read more

Went into Morrison, March 29 to get the veggies plate. I went to the pickup and go side. After waiting my turn, I got to the lady doing the vegetables, she was fair complexion and glasses RUDE for not reason. She refused to check the kitchen for more Carrot soufflé for me but just so happened a guy from the back over heard me asking and brought me some. I could not believe her actions after all everyone else was so friendly and polite. I love their food but she needs to be grateful for a job! The food was hot and delicious. I ended up calling the manager and he apologized for her actions. However i discusses it with a family member and she advised she's alway RUDE! My mother and her elderly friend were in this restaurant on Thursday 3/8/18 and while checking out at the cash register my mother's elderly friend was having trouble getting her ticket and money fast enough to the cashier. The cashier turned to another employee and verbally told that employee "that he/she better come do this or she was going to knock the hell out of her (her meaning the elderly customer). The employee taking over simply said "I'm sorry" and checked them out.
