My 23-year-old daughter was refused service because staff claimed her valid Nevada driver's license was fake. We completely understand the importance of checking IDs and complying with liquor laws, but the way the situation was handled was unprofessional and unnecessarily rude. When I approached the bar to order a drink for myself and my daughter, I was largely ignored while staff discussed the situation amongst themselves. When my daughter presented her ID again, she was told it was fake because it did not pass a "flashlight test" and was sarcastically directed to a bar across the street that supposedly "accepts any IDs." What bothered us most was that multiple staff members openly discussed the situation in front of other customers and continued to watch and stare at our group throughout our visit. Rather than handling a concern privately and professionally, the interaction felt embarrassing, accusatory, and intentionally uncomfortable. If there was a legitimate concern about the ID, that would have been understandable. However, there is a professional way to address those concerns, and this was not it. The establishment itself has a lot of character, which is why we stopped in, but the customer service experience left such a negative impression that we will not be returning.

It honestly exceeded my expectations as I originally planned on coming in for one drink but left after trying 3 because it was so good. My first drink was the Coffee, God and Cigarettes. This drink offered a well-balanced blend of bitter and sweet notes, both light and flavorful. The tobacco finish is present but not overpowering, making for a very enjoyable overall experience. The 2nd drink I got was the old fashioned.... Which was made with both whiskey and rum in it which left me a bit nervous to actually order it. But don't let the rum fool you, this is a classic-tasting delicious Old Fashioned. Ironically, the rum has more traditional whiskey character than their white whiskey (which tastes like scotch). If you like Old Fashioneds, you'll find this version delicious. I finished with the Serrano Cucumber Gimlet. It features a fresh cucumber essence and a well-balanced, subtle heat. A unique and excellent twist on the classic. All the in house spirits were great, Cameron the bartender on shift was able to answer any and all questions I had, the drinks were great and the atmosphere was wonderful. The Bucksnort is a true hidden gem. It has a long and unique history, starting in 1919 as a store. In the 60's it change to a live music and square dancing venue and then eventually morphed into a restaurant and bar by the 70's. Elk creek runs behind the Bucksnort that you can see and hear from the patio. The inside is full of unique mountain/rustic decor and dollar bills everywhere! This place is not fancy- it is a rustic historic bar in the mountains on a dirt road. They do not guarantee fast service. This is a destination that you enjoy and take it all in! It is a small establishment with a small kitchen. But the Bucksnort has grown in popularity so it can get crowded. The staff were great and cheerful. We just ordered drinks and chips and queso so I can't comment much about the food. But I would like to return to try the burgers!

Green Mountain was serving some very tasty beers that suited each of our palates. The interior of the pub was cute but not dog friendly. The pleasant serving staff greeted our little puppy enthusiastically as we sat on the patio, tucked around the corner from the wind. There was a terrific street taco food truck called El Mal del Puerco serving that day - definitely give them a try if street tacos are your thing. We'll definitely check back in to this great brewery on a future trip to Lakewood.

An older gray-haired man sitting at the end of the bar shook his head no and, from what I heard, told the bartender that it "just scared her." When I got home, I found small shards of glass in my hair. To be clear, I don't believe Leslie is aware of this situation, and I'm not trying to speak badly about the bar overall -- I'm simply sharing my personal experience. Living on a tight budget, being overcharged and then having a safety issue dismissed felt upsetting and careless.
