I don't know what we'd do without these guys. We live in an old house, and our furnace in particular is some kind of cobbled-together monster. But Moreland does whatever it takes to get us up and running again. They come quickly, work smart, and charge reasonably (or even too little, given all they do). And they're forthright about the problem and always honest. Before we knew to call Moreland, we had services fail to fix the problem at all, or even try to sell us more than we needed. In fact, that's how we found them. Another service tried to tell us we needed to pay them many thousands to fix the problem. We called Moreland simply for a second opinion and a hope that maybe it could be done more cheaply. They confirmed that the others either didn't have it right or were trying to rip us off -- and they fixed it in no time, for a rate we could afford. We're so grateful for them. We'll never call anyone else if we can call Moreland. They're the best. (Aaron is the one who usually has helped us, and he is just great. I can't say enough good about him. I had a guy from Moreland AC come out last Saturday to clean my evaporator coil. I pulled a stupid by running my AC without a filter for a few months. As a result my coils collected a bunch of crap, thus my AC was running almost non-stop and my small house rarely saw temps below 78. He arrived close enough to the scheduled time, climbed up into my attic and was able to clean the coil IN PLACE using some type of liquid in a small sprayer. I must emphasize how great it is that he could clean it without draining the AC refrigerant, cutting copper lines and removing the entire coil for an outside cleaning. That's a job that cost at least $400, typically more. His work cost me less than half that and worked perfectly. He also pointed out an issue that I already knew about regarding a vent on my heating system. I'm planning to have my land-lord take care of it but it's good to know he was able to spot it and warn me. Although my job was pretty small I didn't get ANY BS or shadyness from Moreland. I'll call them again if I need to. read more

A year ago our AC broke and Moreland replaced the coils. This year we had the AC inspected and it was low 3 lbs of Freon with no signs of leaks. Obviously the guy who replaced the coils didn't fill the AC all the way. The AC guy who told us the Freon was low called his boss and they told us the only way to fill the Freon for free was to have the guy who installed the coils to come out and do it. We didn't want to wait for that to happen so we had to pay the guy who was already at the house to fill the coils (he did give us a small discount) even though the reason it was low was a poor job by a Moreland employee last year. After our AC starting dripping out of the side of our town home and wasn't staying cool, we called John Moore to come take a look. Their sales person, oops, I mean repair man, starting spitting out different scenarios of what could be wrong..."if I clean the line, it could be $600, if I replace the coil, it could be $3200." He eventually told us that my ac unit had been installed incorrectly 5 years ago when the home was built. After we said that the ac had worked perfectly until now for the fourth time and he talked over us again and again, we told him we would think about it. After 5 seconds of brief thought, I came inside, checked Yelp and called Moreland. They came the next morning, cleared the line without even discussing it, and said the unit had frozen up when we ran it too hard after being on vacation. He de-thawed the unit, cleaned the coil and charged us $230. A bit better than being ripped off to the tune of $3200. I would recommend them to anyone and will keep them in my honest repairman file forever. read more

AMAZING SERVICE!!! Our A/C stopped working Saturday morning on Labor Day Weekend, I called their office at 8:37 to no answer, but received a call back 2 minutes later from the owner. He got me in contact with Gregg, my service tech. Gregg was at my house by 9:30. I was fearful that I was buying a new A/C. He determined that it was only the capacitor but didn't have the part with him. He temporarily got the A/C running to make the house comfortable and ran to get the part. He was back and fixed it by 10:45! He was even nice enough to give my neighbor a jump. I will not be calling another A/C after my experience with them. They are now my go to A/C company. I can not say enough about the customer service and professionalism exhibited by Gregg and his company. It was enough to make me post this review within 20 minutes of his departure. read more

I found this company online when looking for A/C companies with good reviews. This is the 2nd company I called to address my A/C problem on a Friday evening, the 1st one was too busy to help stating that weekends are their busiest time and they couldn't come out until Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Moreland came out in 45 minutes and immediately knew what was wrong with my A/C. My husband and I were very impressed with their professionalism, their turnaround time, their quick assessment of the problem and their price. This is the 3rd A/C company I have used in the past couple of years and the one I have been most impressed with. After reading the reviews here, I decided to call Moreland. I had a little trouble getting through to them on a Monday after my AC started blowing room temperature air (and it was high 80s outside). But I did get through and later on the owner called to make sure someone had gotten back to me, so no issue there. the technician came out on time as promised and immediately diagnosed the problem (faulty capacitor) and fixed it within about 15 minutes. He also checked the freon levels while he was there. Same day service and my house was a comfy 76 degrees not long after. I'd highly recommend Moreland and will be using them again myself in the future. read more

Called Wed and scheduled an AC check- i had no air flow but the unit outside and the thermostat would click on. I asked him to come out on monday and he let me know that he works on Sat! Nice surprise! He came by and checked for leaks and took a look at the indoor section. Of course the unit suddenly starts working before he gets there, and he couldnt find anything wrong with it, but told us that he suspected the motor was dying, and that we could replace it now, or wait till it completely dies. We opted to wait until it completely died- wich was a whopping 3 minutes after he walked out the door. I ran out to see if he was still parked out front but he had already driven away, Gave him a call and he chuckled and came back to take out our old motor so he could order a new one. He gave us our check back and told us it would just be one bill at the end of the repair- the fee was put towards the repair. Monday afternoon he came by and he completed all the work on less than an hour! The repair was less than 300 including labor. We were weary about finding someone to do our repair, a lot of people out there use these opportunities to take advantage of people- we did not want to be pressured into a new unit just wanted a simple repair, and thats what we got. This is the second time Gregg has fixed the cooling issues in my condo. Both times he was able to come out the same day and fix the problem right on the spot. The condo I'm renting has a unique system custom to the unit, but after some tinkering he found the problem right away. Because he had been here last year with the same issue, he remembered everything how to fix it and was in and out in less than an hour! What I was most impressed with was how direct Gregg was about the problem - without trying to up-sell or fix unnecessary problems. The price on top of it all was very reasonable! Moreland a/c & heating installed a a/c unit in my home on 5/5/16. The very next day my house was hot.. moreland sent a worker out 5/6/16 from that day until 8/20/16 he or crew have been to my home at least 6 times, he even sent another ac company out, they couldn't find out what the problem was. The a/c runs none stop all day long, my house gets up to 85 degrees hot. My old unit was 17 years old, was working as ac unit should, but I had been told I would eventually need another ac unit. I saved my money, got a referral moreland, and called him, he now wants me to get Reliant Energy to come out and evaluate my home......what!!! I'm a 65 year old widow, and reliant didn't get my money, moreland did. He hung up the phone twice in my face, and stated there nothing more he could do for me. After installing the ac unit, taking my money, now he tells me to take a hike, in less then four months. I'm suffering and moreland will not do the one thing he said he would. Be man of his word, he not a professional ac company, he is a cheap thief, if did this to me I am sure he has done it to others. Pass this company up, don't chance it!!!!! read more

I did not have the same experience as other people about Moreland. I called Moreland based on the feedback here and was disappointed. Unfortunately, AC breakdown in Houston demands a fix that cannot wait (price shop, comparison shop etc.). Since, I did not have an alternate, I called these guys based on the reviews here. What went well: a) Technician showed up when he said he would. b) Was courteous and did not leave messes. What did not go well: Diagnostics and pricing. A. First charge was for $720: Which included a labor charge of $135 - I am okay with this, given that the tech spent about 1.5 hrs. The material charge was for R-22 Freon, 8 lbs at $65 per pound!. I researched the internet and even with the increase in price recently for R-22, it is nowhere near $65/lb. I was seeing $400/30 lbs on the internet. Ok, let's double it - still nowhere close to $65/lb, a phenomenal markup. He replaced a capacitor - charged $65 for it - again based on my search on the internet it is also marked up. B. The technician said that he checked for leaks at the condenser - couldn't find any, so "it must be at the evaporator coil" and must be replaced. Only when I insisted, he checked for the leak - only with soap solution, not a sniffer (Freon detector). C. I agreed to the evaporator coil replacement. This came out to $1575, which included $485 labor (3 guys, that worked 4 hours, OR 12 man hours). Considering that 2 of them did not speak English, I highly doubt that the hourly rates were that high. Let's disregard labor for a second, the coil itself was sold at $1090. Again, my internet search showed MSRP for the same coil at about $ 300 to $400 at best. More than double the markup. Bottomline: Just another run of the mill HVAC company overcharging people. No sincerity. My mistake was not to have a good HVAC person handy - I had relied on preventive maintenance - changing filters (3 months/less), cleaning condenser coils every season to keep me out of trouble. I was not too impressed with the AC maintenance techs I called at 2 year intervals, so I thought I would research the internet to find a better one. I DID NOT. My advice: Stay AWAY from MORELAND. read more

My neighbors had been having problems with their AC units so I decided to get mine checked out as well. The first company I had take a look told me my freon was so low that they couldn't even run their diagnostics to find where the leak was (although they did say the leak was small). They gave me a quote for having my coils changed. EXPENSIVE. He didn't even charge up my freon before he left. A week later, I called Moreland to get a second opinion. I was able to set up an appointment for the next morning. A technician came out and took a look. He told me I did have a leak, but it was a pinhole size. He also said my coils looked fine (normal wear and tear) and that I would eventually need to change the coils but not quite yet. He charged up my freon and told me I was good to go. Greg was very friendly and professional and just overall great. I didn't even mention the fact that he went above and beyond his job by changing the light bulb in my attic for me and realigning an exhaust pipe that had come loose from the ceiling. I just came back from visiting my mom and sister in Chicago to find that our AC was working on and off. We thought it might be the thermostat as the unit was cooling when it would decide to run. I looked on the Yelp website at the advice of my sister and found Moreland AC & Heating had five star reviews. I called and got a prompt response and set up an appointment for Friday morning. The tech Greg was here ahead of schedule, a very polite and knowledgeable young man and discovered that it was just the power wire that had vibrated loose on the upstairs unit. He also checked my freon levels and made sure that everything was working properly and also provided a part for my husband for his shop fan. The total charge was $85.00, of which $65.00 was the service call and $20.00 for the part he sold my husband. Needless to say in this world of rip-offs and greed it is very refreshing to find there are still some very honest people in this world and this family business surely fits that bill. I will be distributing their business cards to family and friends... I also had a experience with John Moore (like Meredith M's review states) this past winter when they tried to sell me a computer for my furnace/AC when the heat would not come on, estimate $1,325.00 real cost $200.00 plus $100.00 for installation...(this was done b y a friend of ours not Moreland), John Moore figured I would go for that deal since the furnace was not working and it was going to get somewhat cold that night....STAY AWAY FROM JOHN MOORE, they also told me the unit was improperly installed but has been working for 4 years....that must be their standard line...they provide a FREE estimate so they can sock it to you in the repair. read more

The a/c in our older rental house went out on a Sunday afternoon. It would run for a bit and then just shut off. We checked thermostat batteries and the breaker box and everything was fine. Great, it's Sunday, this should be fun. I called around a few companies and Moreland was the only company that had a technician available on a Sunday to come out. John Moore and ARS Rescue Rooter did not, although they claim 24/7 service. I spoke with Gregg and he showed up within an hour of me calling. Awesome! He diagnosed the problem as a faulty motor blower, a part which he could not pick up on a Sunday evening understandably. After a rather warm night, Gregg showed up the next morning at 9am and replaced the part. Hooray, a/c is back! I would highly recommend Moreland for your a/c troubles. Gregg was knowledgeable, friendly, able to come out on a Sunday evening and their prices were fair. I will definitely be using Moreland for any other A/C issues. Our ac is only 3.5 years old and the coil developed a small pin hole leak. I obtained three estimates and each came back around 1350 dollars. Moreland guys did the replacement for half. The reason- they reused the freon they pulled from the system and only charged me for what was needed to make the system full again. All the other estimates were charging for complete replacement of the freon in the system and would not give me any credit for what was taken from our AC. These guys are honest and do great work! read more

I had Moreland out to address an AC problem where they had to add freon to my AC unit They also identified the the likely root cause of a leak with my AC coils. While the repairman was nice he said he would have to call me once back at the office with the estimate to fix the issue. He never called me back & when I called for the estimate they said they would have to come out & charge me another service fee. I feel they misrepresented themselves and were out to bilk as much money from me as possible. I've moved on to other service providers. read more

I called these guys after reading reviews on yelp. Bill was the initial person I talked to. He was professional and nice. I explained to him what my problem was and long story short, i asked them to come out and take a look at my A/C to give me a quote to replace the outside unit. They came without a problem and on time. The only problem is that I was not aware of a service charge of $65 for them to come to just take a look. If Bill would have told me that I would not have called them and would simply get a quote on the phone. I was disappointed that I had to pay $65. The service guy who came out (Greg) was nice. He said he told me over the phone about the service charge but I did not hear him. This probably partially my fault this time. In any case, service was provided. They gave me a quote but i decided not to go with them since I found a better pricing elsewhere. I'm giving a 2 stars because of the service charge misunderstanding. Last Friday night we noticed water dripping from our garage ceiling and it appeared to be directly beneath the A/C unit upstairs. We had used Moreland A/C a few months earlier to resolve an issue and were really impressed with the technician, Greg, who resolved a not-so-easy clogged drainage issue in our attic unit. So, although it was almost 7pm on a Friday night (and we were driving out of town early the next morning) I called Moreland and asked for Greg who agreed to come out right away... and I mean within 30 minutes. Greg spent the next 2 hours cutting out soaked ceiling sheetrock and exploring for the source of the water. He eventually found a very abnormal piping issue (the details are very strange and originated with installation many years ago). But Greg's common sense and tenacity produced a solution that he successfully resolved, spent a few minutes educating us about what caused the problem and how we could better maintain the unit to avoid future surprises. And the price was very fair and did not feel like emergency pricing at all. It was excellent, fair work by a man who knows his craft and does the dirty work with a smile and great attitude.
