My girlfriend and I were eager to find both vegan and vegetarian options in the Laurel area for lent, so we chose More than Java Cafe. We both loved the ambience inside and they even offer free wifi! There was a local feel to it, as many people coming in seemed to know each other. Overall the service was fantastic, as the two women who took our order were very nice, playful yet respectful and courteous. My girlfriend ordered the avocado and black bean wrap. I tried it and we both agreed that it was delicious. The portions and price were fair. I ordered the special for the day, which was a pizza panini and it was also delicious. Personally, I thought that my panini was better but that doesn't take away from the wrap. We ordered our food for takeout and would like to come again. According to the Yelp reviews and menu there appeared to be more options available than when we came in. I wish that there was a paper menu (There might have been but we didn't see it) for when we come back. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I was in town for business (from Arizona) and I thought I'd run over here and grab a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning. The staff was very friendly and I love the local ambience of the place. I always prefer supporting local business over National chains any day. I like much about this place, including its atmosphere, its menu, and its style. The execution leaves something to be desired, however. I tried to order two different types of whole grain bread (a bagel, then toast), and they were out of each. After settling for poppyseed bread, I awaited my breakfast sandwich. While my daughter enjoyed her breakfast, I waited. And while other customers arriving after us received their orders, I waited. When we inquired, it turned out they had it ready and someone forgot to bring it. An apology was given, which was nice. My daughter, who was treating me, also noted that they don't list prices on their menu board; so she was surprised to be charged extra for cheese on her sandwich. That really shouldn't happen. I think if this place gets more organized and transparent, it could be very good. read more

We have visited More Than Java twice and highly recommend. Service is prompt and very friendly and there are a wide variety of coffee and tea selections. Let me start by saying that this is the cutest little cafe in laurel period! I love how cute it is inside and I love even more that it's Black owned! My review is solely based on the food. I've visited twice and both times, ordered a sandwich and jerk wings. The sandwich was okay- literally could have made it at home and saved $8. It's the wings I had a problem with. I placed my order and they reheated them for me in the microwave (guess there's no full kitchen back there and everything is made at home and brought in). Anyways the wings were so ridiculously salty I had to throw them away. Both times! More Than Java is an absolute treasure on Main Street in Laurel! Laurel has been in desperate need of a non-Starbucks coffee option and this certainly fits the bill. The coffee drinks I've gotten have all been awesome, particularly thanks to the option of almond milk and the ice cubes made out of frozen coffee. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and the salads are an absolute delight. Last but certainly not least, all of the baked goods are fantastic. The strawberry shortcake is to die for and the moscato pound cake makes the slight wait more than worth it. Don't get deterred by the street parking, this is worth the stop. read more

Not sure what happened between 2 weeks ago and today, but the lattes we got have been really watered down. We told them today and they made us free lattes but there's no difference. There's no foam, it seems as though skim milk was used, so there's no creaminess to it. We really loved this place until now :(. read more

We enjoyed the ambience, but the food is just "okay", relatively few options and nothing we ate was "memorable". We have had a breakfast sandwich, BLT, sweet potato pie, apple pie, pasta and seafood salad and coffee. The coffee is good. The people were friendly. Hubby has been back, mostly because he prefers the feel of a local cafe to that of the chains. No more ordering meals, though, just coffee and a pastry, perhaps. read more

Live right around the corner and didn't even know it, but now I do! My girlfriend and I went there today for breakfast we had the amazing jerk chicken and waffles! And a the paradise island smoothie! Customer service was amazing, they were very patient and helpful. It was so nice seeing how busy they were and knocking the customers orders right on down. I'm impressed and now a fan! This cafe is a mixed bag, they offer some good smoothies but they don't have a clear menu on display at the counter. Both times I came here I had to ask them what they were serving for lunch and both times they gave me cold sandwiches, the type that you'd find in an elementary school cafeteria. read more

These folks get 5 stars from me. First, the spot is family owned and everyone is super friendly. Second, the wife makes lemon pound cake as good as the little old ladies will bake it in a Baptist church! Cakes and pies are extremely yummy. If you're trying to go healthy, their green smoothie is good too. They have comfortable chairs and even an ottoman to rest your feet if you're lucky enough to get that spot. I always feel welcome when I'm there. This is a great place to meet a friend, have a meeting, or read your favorite book. I hear that they have even applied for a beer and wine license so I can imagine that evenings will be especially fun soon! read more

I love the cozy atmosphere! Great spot to work or hang out. They have a big selection of food and drinks to choose from, perfect for breakfast or lunch. They also have a huge dessert counter...so be careful with that. Their tea is always fresh, but you might need to ask for a plate or a few napkins to put underneath the cup so the tea bag doesn't drip on the table. Free parking on the street and around the corner. I really wanted to like this place for three reasons... 1. They're a small business that close in walking distance from my home and I like to support local small businesses. 2. I'd read great reviews about this place. 3. They're a minority owned business and in 2018 I think it's important to support minority businesses. Well needless to say I was extremely disappointed. First we called in the order at 11:45am and they said it would be 20 minutes. We arrived at 12:15pm(30 minutes later) and the order wasn't ready. After waiting for another 20 minutes not only was the order incomplete but I didn't have time to wait any longer as I had somewhere I needed to be. Then when We ate what we did have it was NOT good. The scrambled eggs looked as if they chopped up a boiled egg. The bread was burned and so was the coffee. My family suffered through the meal and I went to McDonalds. My suggestion is if you go to this place stick with the pastries or anything thats prepackaged. This was a total disappointment. read more

We went here Saturday for breakfast before heading to a movie. The house coffee blend is very flavorful without any acid bite. I had a bagel sandwich, and we shared a piece of chocolate cake. Please don't judge our dessert for breakfast choice, as they just have so many great choices in the case to look at. LOL Everything was great, and it was all brought to our table quickly with smiles and some nice small talk. We will be going back!!! read more

I just noticed the coffee ice cubes and my first thought was to write a favorable review on Yelp. It's my first visit, and I'm just ecstatic to have a real coffee shop in Laurel. Yeah, we had a Starbucks, but not an especially nice one... and even if it were I'd much rather have a place of our own. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. The art on the walls is stylish... and there are a LOT of power outlets. (They know which side their bread is buttered on.) It's well staffed, and it's a good sign that they're continually cleaning. The clientele sound very happy, but it's not too loud. My iced latte was delicious and the BELT was very good. They've got an alcohol license in the works, and I hope that means they'll be able to become a nice night spot. I haven't tried the desserts yet, but I will be back. This could easily become my favorite place in Laurel. read more
