ROCO - So happy you're here!

ROCO Kitchen + Coffee is a spankin' new addition to Hickory Ridge Shopping Center--and honestly, it's exactly what this area needed. The space is clean, modern, and really well done. The barista station stands out right away--you can tell they're serious about coffee. It's the kind of place that feels fresh but still comfortable enough to hang out in. Coffee-wise, the basics were solid and enjoyable. My daughter reported that the cappuccino was a bit off--but totally understandable for a new spot still finding their feet. The foundation is clearly there. Food was simple and on point. I ordered the Migas--not overly complicated, just well-executed and tasty. The menu overall is streamlined, which makes ordering easy without being overwhelming. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and location. Staff members - all friendly and welcoming. This place is off to a strong start, and we're genuinely stoked to have it in the neighborhood. We'll definitely be back.

This new coffee shop in hickory ridge is definitely worth checking out. They have a sit down service side and a quick order counter. Plenty of nice outdoor seating as well. It's a very nice space if you're looking to hang out in a coffee shop. The menu looks basic and the pastry case doesn't look like much, but my latte and donut blew my mind. I think the donut was homemade. It was airy, chewy, and everything you want in a donut. The latte was also good. Just enough foam, smooth espresso, and made well. I wish they had a milk that wasn't whole milk because I do not prefer oat milk, but that's what I got because of the lack of milk options. I can't wait to go back and try more of the food based on the 2 things I tried. The menu is very promising and I can't wait to take my kids to try it.

As I cafe hopper, I encourage you to try out this new spot. They've hired several staff that are literally waiting for YOU. I was between meals, so I tried the yogurt and it was refreshing. The prices are moderate, my yogurt and drink cost $15. Their bathrooms are gender neutral and the restaurant is bright and clean. Headphones would have helped my focus. Though the staff was pretty quiet, they enjoy working together and it showed. I became distracted, ugh, my work avoidance. I do plan to return.

New coffee and brunch spot in Columbia! I just tried their signature Brown Butter latte after a walk in Centennial Park. I love that they're using a La Marzocco espresso machine and Alma coffee beans. I'll definitely have to check out that coffee brand. I'm excited to come back and sit in. It looks like a great place to grab brunch with family and friends.

I saw a few posts in a local foodie facebook group regarding this new business. I had to give it a try especially after seeing those doughnuts! Came in the late afternoon on a Saturday and therefore the doughnuts were sold out, bummer but not their fault. I'm honestly glad to hear they sold out, small businesses need our support. We ordered a two iced mocha latte's. Mine was made with almond milk. Both were perfectly made! The service was amazing with two helpful baristas. I can't wait to give this place another try and I'll be sure to come earlier for the doughnuts.

I had been to Mad City multiple times in the 2020's, but I shied away from them in 2025 after a couple of not so good times there. I really like their iced chai. That's what I get every time I go and sometimes dirty with espresso shot depending on my energy level. Multiple circular tables and not a bad place to WiFi. It can get a bit crowded and set up is a bit awkward as there are coffee bags, plants, etc. that can get in the way, and sometimes just a bit narrow for a time when it's crowded. I've generally liked the music overall with Sirius XM 60's, 80's, Jazz, Christmas music, etc. As I write about 60's music, I'm hearing Beach Boy's "Good Vibrations" where I'm wifi now, but Mad City doesn't give me such good vibrations any more and has even lived up to their name making me mad. There was one time more recently like in 2024 I was annoyed with whatever the music was, but I made do. The first time I went might have been during Covid with my girlfriend at that time in July 2020, and I was impressed with the chai tea. In October 2020, my company wanted to do something social during this tough year. So, we had a company golf outing where we could be outside. Afterward, I went to Mad City to wifi and did so outside on that nice 75 F day. I think I wifi another time more recently as it was busy inside and was a nice day, and my computer was well enough charged. One of the last times I visited in 2024, I wanted to get the extra large iced chai as I always do. This is more price efficient to get 32 oz as opposed to 24 oz for only 30 cents more. The cashier was snippy & said we don't do the extra large for the iced chai. I said I've always gotten the XL and been coming here for years. They ultimately honored my request, but I was annoyed we got into an argument about it. They have frequent customer cards. This is old school as a lot of places use apps & digital way to track your visits. I don't mind. I'd hand them this card from my wallet, and they'd mark my visit. The very next visit after they argued about not doing the extra large iced chai, I handed my frequent customer card, and I think a different cashier who was also snippy, said oh we don't mark the drink card for chai. I said you always have, and she said it's an "Espresso/Coffee Drink Card", not for tea. I said that was dumb, but I still got the iced chai as that's what I wanted. The next time I went I told the manager, and he did honor the card saying that they don't deny. However, I already was annoyed with Mad City two consecutive times.

People do seem to respect the 90MIN seating window though so you should be able to find a seat. You order and pay at the counter first and then they give you a table number card. This is how they find you to serve your food. I ordered a regular matcha latte, a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on croissant bread and their famous croffle. I loved their matcha latte. It's pre-sweetened so no need to add extra vanilla syrup or anything. This does not taste like a traditional matcha, which in my opinion tastes like dirt. This is a sweeter, dessert like matcha. I didn't care for the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. It was kind of dry and it tasted like something was missing. The croffle was amazing. It has a nutty, pecan like taste to it and it was topped with vanilla gelato and blueberries. I couldn't really taste the maple syrup but it was delicious nonetheless.

I really enjoyed the cappuccino, and I like that they offer agave as a sweetener. That said, I do wish the cappuccino had a bolder coffee flavor. On its own, it leaned a bit too milky for my taste. However, once I added an extra shot, it made a big difference, I got the richer coffee flavor I was looking for along with an extra boost. The temperature was good, but I did notice that even when I requested it extra hot, it came out the same each time, which was a bit puzzling. Overall, I'd give it 4 stars. It's a nice spot, and I would definitely come back if I'm in the area.
