We were strolling around Main Street in downtown Ellicott City MD (Apr 2026), and found a free shuttle running up and down the street and connecting to several parking lots. Across the river, found a cute little courtyard we hadn't noticed before on the east side of thd Old Mill Cafe! We luxuriated with some sweet creamy coffee and a fluffy powdered jelly-filled donut, so rich it was almost a pączki ("POONCH-key")! We strolled on the shady trolley trail behind Trolley Stop restaurant, though this time we didn't walk all the way to Oella to the bread bakery, cafe and convenience store, or butcher shop. read more

Omg I found a gem today. I got a late start to my day and started searching for a breakfast spot with good reviews online. I found this tiny haven of goodness. I got amazing customer service and yummy goodness served on a platter. I got a iced latte with a little sugar in my espresso (like I love it) and a mushroom and leeks quiche. It's a very popular coffee shop in Ellicott City and very busy. It's a quiet coffee shop where you can meet and catch up with friends. Old Mill Cafe in Ellicott City is an absolute treasure! The moment you step inside, you're welcomed by a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. The walls are adorned with beautiful local art/cards (that you can buy), adding a unique and vibrant touch to the space. And there's even a little library tucked in the corner where you can borrow a book. Service is great here and everyone was so kind! Food here is awesome! I couldn't resist trying their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake Pop, and wow--it was a little bite of heaven! It tastes exactly like cookie dough!. Speaking of coffee, their autumn seasonal lattes are refreshingly delightful, we got the maple mocha-- it was just delicious! Also got the smoked salmon on a bagel, very fresh and tasty! Quaint little cafe near old Ellicott city!! I ordered a lavender iced coffee and a sweet crepe. The lavender iced coffee was pretty good though I wished the syrup they used was better for mixing as it was a little difficult to get all of it incorporated with the coffee. The sweet crepe was delicious!! Inside the sweet crepe, I had strawberries, Nutella, and some whipped cream. Perfect sweet treat!! Even though there was a long line, I felt like I got my order pretty fast. Still standing by my review. The English muffin was definitely not toasted and the ingredients were certainly not homemade (e.g. pesto in a jar from Costco). Only thing I was wrong about was, yes, it was spinach and not lettuce. Old mill cafe is a nice place with a good vibe. It's pricey too. The service has always been great. I am gluten and dairy intolerant. That leaves me with a go-to option of fried egg on gluten free bread (which sets me back $9!) in fairness, they offered to add veg to bulk it up, but that's not my jam. Their GF bread is decent tasting, has a whole grain bread taste which is a nice change from the typical cardboard. I was bummed to find out I can't have their chai latte because they use a powder (ew) that has dairy in it. That was a big disappointment. If they traded that powder nonsense for a boxed concentrate I would bump my stars up for sure. They always have gluten free desserts/pasties which is nice, but they often have dairy in them. read more

You place your order, pay at the cashiers and are given a number to place on your table. The food is brought to you or you have the option to order ahead and pick up your meal. There is seating available indoors or there are a few tables outdoors. We were there during a busy late Sunday morning . A line had developed but with this system of delivering food to your table, waiting seemed minimal and moved right along. **Caprese sandwich with slices of delicious fresh mozzarella, a generous slice of tomato, basil, a brightly flavored pesto sauce and a drizzle of balsamic on toasted Ciabatta that was delicious and not overpowering in flavors. **Chicken Salad sandwich with chunks of chicken breast blended well with pecans, honey and spinach. It met with great approval. **Iced coffee was also delicious and enjoyed on a rare warm day. Their coffee bar offered a wide variety of things that you could customize to your liking. Servers were very polite, quick to delivering your food and the prices were reasonable for this area. On less busy days I would like to take advantage of their free WiFi and utilize their cozy library nook to read a book or work online. A couple of display cases showed an assortment of tempting baked items and a couple of sections to browse for small gift items. What a cute cafe! Surprisingly spacious inside with a few tables and four tables outdoors on their patio. The inside is cute! They have a menu above the register, and it's large, so you can look while standing in line. They also have an extensive condiment/self-service station with utensils, sweeteners, etc. I was also surprised they have a lot for customer parking in front of the cafe. It is very small with just a few spots but I wasn't expecting there to be any. Lot A is located right behind the cafe so finding parking was not stressful, especially because Old Mill is not located in the heart/business of Old Town EC. I only got to try their Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit, Almond Croissant and London Fog (w/ almond milk) and I enjoyed all of it. I got the 16oz for the London Fog and they really filled it to the brim I was wondering why it was overflowing in the to-go cup but I'm not complaining -- better more than less. One thing I noticed was the cashier asked if I wanted the almond croissant heated which was a nice surprise because I've never been asked that before at any other cafe. I don't know if he meant to ask that about the biscuit but I noticed other people were getting their pastries heated up! I docked a star because it was like any other nice cafe, and nothing about it was particularly extraordinary. I don't think I will find myself wanting to go Old Mill if I felt like going to a cafe. I think being in Old Town EC makes me a little more reluctant to go because it gets really busy, especially on the weekend. However, because they have their own parking + a lot behind them, it's a lot more convenient to go. All that to say, would I recommend? Yes! read more

The eatery is clean and organized, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food order came really quickly so that was nice! I got the vegetarian Feta Hummus Toast dish. It was nice, but I think next time I will try the vegan version, I think there could have been a bit more seasoning within the hummus and less feta. read more

I'm embarrassed to say that I had NO idea this little cafe was here. I've been coming to OEC and Main Street one to two times a month and walk right by this on my way hiking. That definitely won't be the case going forward. YUM Breakfast sammys, crafty tasty teas, delicious coffee and warmed up pastries--perfect combination for a wonderful morning. The menu is extensive. Everyone can find something to munch or sip on. We tried their breakfast sandwiches, tea and coffee--all amazing. Staff were attentive and fast. Unisex bathroom was clean and fresh. There's room to work, sit and gather either inside, or outside on the front porch or to the right of the door to the back mural wall seating area. AMAZING! Stopped in here last second to grab something with caffeine and I'm glad I did! I got the Summer Sun, which is a summer special, and it was so yummy! Ended up getting some food as well, which was all super yummy! I'm going to have to come back to try out their cheddar old bay cream cheese and the funfetti cream cheese! Service was quick and staff were friendly. The only downsides are none of the food items have prices listed, the parking lot is a bit small and they get busy, and there is only one bathroom and waiting for it can be tricky. Came in on a Friday around 10am and the cafe was packed. There are a few tables for seating and bar-like seating against the window. There's one unisex bathroom in the corner, but you have to walk through the seating area to get there and it's a little awkward when it's crowded. I had a 16oz latte with honey and it was delicious. Despite the crowd, my drink was finished in a few minutes. I also had turkey bacon, egg, and cheddar on an everything bagel and that was perfect too. The latte was around $5 and the sandwich was $7. Love this old town Ellicott city Café. It's filled with characters and chill vibes. Even though it's located on the edge of the old town. It does not make parking any easier. They do have their own little parking lot. However, given the amount of customers they have on daily base. This little parking lot is filled up fairly quick. Most of the time we have to look for parking on the side streets They have an extensive menu for sandwiches and coffee drinks. Also fresh pastries in the bakery displays. Tasty coffee, chai, & more. One of my favorite coffee and breakfast places in the world. Great coffee from diverse selection. The goods are fresh baked: they include coffee cake, muffins , croissant, bagels and assorted other bales goodies. They have quiche and it is good. You can also get breakfast sandwiches, etc. Overall I have not been disappointed in any selection The also sell pet themed bric-a-brac and clothing. They are very pet friendly and you can usually see patrons with their pets sitting outside of the cafe and there are treats for them. I had a really great experience at the Old Mill Cafe. Parking was a bit tight, but to me this meant it was going to be good. It was early on a Saturday and I was able to park in their parking lot, but there is a public lot just around the corner that would have worked as well. There is an indoor seating area as well as outdoor seating. The patio outside was great (side and front patios) and they were cozy enough for Louie (my dog) to enjoy the sun and also big enough not to be a bother. I got the monkey ? crepe, and it was amazing. It had a little crunch to it, which I am a fan of, and it had nutella and bananas and honey. It was just perfect and so good. I had also got a poptart to go - and it was SOOO good! We heated it in the oven at home and it reminded me of a 100x better toaster strudle. The people working there were super sweet too. I got a peppermint mocha decaf and it was lovely (with soy). The soy was not advertized on the website, and I almost went else where but they have all the alternative milks. I was very happy about that! But it was super tastey. They also had all kinds of pastries to enjoy and breads, and treats, and coffee beans to go. I will definitely come back when I am in the area, it was such a pretty place. read more

I came here this morning for breakfast for the first time and it was absolutely delicious! They have inside tables and an outside front patio as well with additional outside tables on the side. We grabbed an outside table on their front patio and then went inside to order the food. After ordering your food they give you a number afterwards and bring the food out to you. They are also dog friendly and have a table inside with a container of treats in there to take to give to your fur friends! I ordered their specialty white mocha iced latte with brown sugar (I forget what it was called). For my meal I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese on an Asiago bagel, which was tasty. They had such a wide selection of homemade baked goods/pastries, it was hard to decide which one to get! I ended up also getting the strawberry poptart and they even warmed it up for me. It was sooo good! The service here was great and everything came out very quickly. The drinks and poptart were given to me within a couple minutes and the food came out about five minutes later.
