Stopped in last night (Wednesday) around 7:45 pm. Walked to the counter to peruse the menu and order. We stood there quite a while and finally called out. Workers were there, but I think the orientation of the counter is such that someone working at the grill can't see people walking in. There's no sound (ringing bell, buzzer, whatever) and they couldn't see us come in. Whatever - it didn't make us feel particularly welcome. I notice a couple of other reviews mention the same thing. Seems like an easy fix. Anyway, we ordered a Philly Mushroom with old bay chips/drink and a Chicken Club with sweet potato chips/drink. We were given a table flag and we sat outside. Food came a few minutes later. Looked and tasted very good. The bread on the Club was nicely toasted, the aeoli was tasty and not too heavy and the chicken (decent portion) was pretty moist. My partner enjoyed the Philly Mushroom. Unfortunately, my partner received regular chips instead of Old Bay they requested. They don't like to complain, so they basically left them uneaten. Decided to visit this place because of the great reviews and was not disappointed. They have a pretty straight forward menu with only sandwiches from different regions. Hubby and I had Nashville style burgers, the kids had burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. The kid meals come with a side and a dish. For the adult meals it's only the sandwich. We ordered a side of home made chips and they were crispy and delicious. The sandwiches were really good! The table next to us ordered the chicken wrap and that looked amazing!! Upon entering, we were presented with a small seating area consisting of two rows of two-seat tables. No one to greet us, we had to ask the cashier if we should sit and wait for a server or order at the counter. The latter is what you do, and someone will bring the order to your table. We ordered a smash burger and a FL Cuban and were surprised the price only included the sandwiches! Sides, like chips and salads were $3.00 extra. The ambiance is total failure, although the area was clean yet no frills. I've eaten in mess halls with more ambiance! The food service was timely, yet a 15% tip was quite overkill for a single trip dropping the food off when we were probably within 20 feet. The sandwiches were served on parchment paper on top of a tray, no plates! Plastic utensils and napkins are available at a counter where you self serve your drinks. My smashburger was dry, no juiciness at all. For those of you that don't know, the main feature of a smashburger is ultimate juiciness! The toppings were good as was the bun. The FL Cuban failed to impress as well. The shredded pork was bland and mushy. The paper thin single slice of ham did not add much to the taste buds either. I'm such a sucker for a chicken Caesar wrap, so when I heard about the wrap at RegionAle, I knew I had to try. I picked it up on my way home from the airport, and had to wait over 20 minutes for the wrap to be made. However, it was very good. I wish it had more chicken, but the Caesar flavor was amazing and tasty. The homemade sweet potato chips were the star of the show. Both salty and sweet, and something I would definitely go back for. Nice hidden sandwich shop that everyone needs to know! Their Nashville Hot chicken and Fried pork cutlet sandwich are my highly recommend choice. The hot chicken was really flavorful and crispy and hot enough to give you a glimpse of how Nashville hot chicken taste like (I also live in Nashville so I know about hot chicken :) ) Their fried pork is something you won't get anywhere in Howard county. It's freshly made and very crispy and juicy. The toppings in each sandwich is absolutely perfect and goes well with each of them. I enjoyed my experience here at RegionAle. We happened to be in the area and decided to have a late lunch here. The way it works you order your food at the register first and pay and they bring it to your table. I was out with a girlfriend and we both decided to get the bacon grilled cheese. Which I might add was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was that if you wanted tomato soup as a side. You had to pay separately. Now everyone knows that tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich go together. So why isn't that an option as a side? So it was an additional $5.00 if you wanted the soup to be your side. Of course I wanted it. So I paid the additional $5.00. Now the soup was good but a little on the salty side. I end up giving the rest to my husband. I also ordered an additional meal to go. Which was the Cubano sandwich. It also came with a side. So I opted for the broccoli shred. The restaurant was clean. This was after lunchtime so there was plenty of seating available. The cashier was so nice & helpful. I would definitely return when in the area. Sandwiches were great! I also like that they have a huge selection to choose from. Man o man, it wasn't good. The chicken sandwich I ordered was made correctly (without bacon) but it was dry as heck, flavorless, unseasoned, and hard to choke down. I even tried adding extra avocado aioli, but that didn't help to save the sandwich, alas. The side of chips was free according to the cashier but it was a $1 upcharge. Not a big deal, but I don't like to be told that something is free when it's not. The chips were crispy and a large portion but saltier than any chip I've ever had. The margarita was unpleasant, clearly not freshly made and didn't have much alcohol in it. The service was friendly and hospitable. The interior was very narrow and small and can only accommodate four-person tables (there were only two of those, as well). I would not recommend or return. Region ale is a perfect quick service lunch spot. The options of sandwiches are perfect for anyone with any kind of taste. It really is a regional experience. I got a salad and my husband got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. My watermelon salad was hearty and felt like the perfect amount. My husband has been through a few sandwiches and Nashville hot chicken sandwich is his favorite even though they are all pretty good. We both got the potato salad and it is mustard based which I enjoy much more than the standard mayo based ones. The service is quick and quality is great. This place surprised me. I'm not normally a sandwich guy, but this place has found its thing and it does that thing well. The inside is a bit narrow with a bit of a cafeteria vibe, but there are lots of spots to sit (though a table can often be tricky for our party of five). You place your order at the counter and they'll bring the food to you. FWIW, the gender-neutral bathroom in the back was clean and spacious with a changing table for me to take care of Child #3. I got the seasonal special the NOM Bulgogi Hoagie and it did not disappoint! Reminiscent of a cheesesteak sub but with tasty cherry peppers and this gochujang aioli that really tied the whole thing together with a nice Korean flavor - I would get this again. My wife got the WI grilled cheese which had good cheddar but also tomato and bacon to give it a little more oopmh than the childhood classic version (no shade to that though). I was pleased to see several vegetarian options that were more than a salad on bread. Child #1 doesn't eat meat and he loved his Jackfruit Cubano (there is a regular meat one on the menu as well). Child #2 ordered the children's menu burger and this is no small burger! I think many adults would be satisfied with a burger this size. There are several sides options and we tried the standard chips and the salt and vinegar. They weren't bad, but I think I'd really like to try the sweet potato chips next time I come in. There's a decent number of beers on tap and my wife and I each got one while the kids got some of the (cane sugar) fountain sodas. Again, I went for something seasonal, some nicely-balanced pale ale that complimented my sandwich nicely. The chicken on the Nashville hot chicken sandwich is perfection! I think the hot sauce could have more of a kick however, and the bottom bun could be thicker, it was falling apart a bit. I'll start with the wins...the gentleman at the register taking orders was the coolest and nicest guy ever. He was super friendly and explained how things worked seeing that this was my first visit. I went with the steak and cheese combo. Combo comes with chips and drink. No fries....what??!!! I get it, they're all about their chips. Here's where they lost me...the steak and cheese was skimpy and lacked flavor. I've had better steak and cheese subs from Subway:( My salt and pepper chips lacked salt and pepper. Not only was it a $20 sandwich, but when we opened it up it was more of an onion & cheese sandwich with a small garnishing of meat. The bread was fresh and flavorful, you could honestly eat it by itself, and everything inside was incredibly tasty. RegionAle was surprisingly small and cozy. There's outside seating but today was a little too chilly for that. The food was so-so. Nothing bad and nothing great. Well, nothing except the chips. The Old Bay chips were good and the sweet potato chips were great! I ordered a second serving. Other than chips, we got the Nashville hot chicken, the shrimp po boy, the cheese steak, and the cubano. Again, none was bad. However, I'm told that the cubano had too much mustard. The same was said about the potato salad. The cheese steak didn't have enough cheese (my family used to own a sandwich shop and cheesesteaks were our specialty). My chicken sandwich was just m'eh. The service was pretty good. You order food when you enter, find a table, and the bring it to you when it's ready. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
