AC died in the middle of the night. They came out the next morning and said my unit was too old…read morerepair (just over 20 years old), while ripping out something from the power box and seemingly breaking a component in there. They said they could try to do a repair for about $1.3k but that they couldn't guarantee the repair would be effective because of the condenser. They then tried to sell me on their highest end heat-pump for about $24k, which was too much for our needs, since our furnace was also functional. We ended up choosing a basic AC replacement for around $9k. They were able to install the new unit two days later. However, on the day of the install, they saw some surface level rust on the furnace heat exchanger and tried to get me to replace it for an additional $4k. When I said no, they backed off and recommended a CO alarm (which we already have). It felt like I was being heavily taken advantage of because I was in a dire situation. The installation went fine, but my experience of being pressured and hard sold to during the process made it feel like I was being milked for every penny they could get out of me. Take this as a precaution to check your HVAC AC/furnace/heat pump regularly, and get multiple quotes before deciding on work. If you go with this company, they will seemingly do an effective job, but they will try their best to get as much money out of you as possible.

He tested the control board and said it was the issue, collected my service fee, then an hour later sent an estimate for more than the price I paid for the oven two years ago. I can look at the part online and they are wanting to charge double, plus $500 for roughly the same labor that they just spent doing for a $65 service fee. So while they were quick to respond and nice enough... I'm still up a creek with less money and more wasted time.

I was understanding as to the cancellations as we were having a hot summer and I am sure that they were busy with air conditioners... my concern was heat, so I was not in any rush. Yes, waiting once a week for months wasn't ideal, but I wanted the unit repaired. The technician finally arrived in the end of August. Nice guy and he diagnosed the issue without really doing a lot of troubleshooting (the main panel was bad as I suspected all along). They had me sign a contract that specifically says '...Buyer may cancel this transaction at any time prior to the midnight of the third business day after the date of this transaction.' Additionally, I was required to pay a $306 deposit for the repair. I called this morning to cancel as I had already (2 weeks earlier) rodered a mini-split system (I thought keeping the pellet stove would be a good Idea, but thinking it through, not for $1700. The person who answered the phone (a man) asked why I was canceling - I told him why. He then proceeded to tell me that they had already ordered the part. I told him to send it back. He then asked what they were supposed to do with the part. He then stated that my deposit was non-refundable. On the contract, it CLEARLY states 'If you cancel, any property traded in, any payments made by you under the contract ... will be returned within 10 business days. Up until today, all my contacts with this company had been cordial and professional. Once I went to cancel, I got bullied. I don't feel that the cost of replacing a small panel is worth $1700 and seems a bit predatory. I will be reporting this business.

Just before Christmas they came out to look at my furnace. I called my Dad on the way home to see how it went (I usually forget to look at my filter until they are on their way to check it :(...but usually it still goes really well.) He asked if I wanted the good news or the bad. (The good was unrelated...he set up my Christmas tree while he was here.) The bad news was that I had a crack in my heat exchanger and would need a new furnace before Christmas. Let's just say I didn't expect Santa would be bringing one by. Chappel sent out Dwight to talk me thru the process, really look over my house to determine what I would need and set me up to get this fixed as promptly as possible. He even brought his laptop with a picture of my crack...not that I would have recognized it but someone with knowledge about these things probably would have appreciated it. I know its been a mild winter so far but I was glad for professionalism and punctuality to get this unfortunate situation remedied. I would really highly recommend Chappel's Heating and Cooling if you are looking for a company that provides their services!
