I got a quote (attached) for Aprilaire 500 bypass Humidifier installed to replace an existing one that's failing and I was told the unit is worth $600 and it would be $1170.00 to install (which included a 5% discount if I bought a service agreement with them). I said it seemed a little high so I got more quotes. So far two reputable places quoted $550 and $425 installed and the unit is $230 at most online. Update: so my Aprilaire 500 humidifier was installed by Green Air Care and everything was great with them (see review). They even fixed a couple quirks with my system. Per Brian's Heating & A/C's request I did call Brian's to see why their quotes were so high but they were unavailable so I asked for an email response. If their response email makes sense this may be updated but $600-900 an hour for labor seems really high to me. As with all large projects I'd recommend getting multiple quotes if time allows but the quotes I received from this business were a little outrageous in my opinion.

Nonetheless I gave Harmonic a chance and am happy I did. I'd give them 4 stars just to break the trend, but that wouldn't be fair as they really are the best service provider I have seen in years. They communicated well both on the initial call, and during the appointment. The dispatcher Liz actually called to tell me they'd be running 30 minutes late and confirmed with me that that would be okay. Nice touch. Tony (an owner) came out at the new time and properly assessed the situation and presented a couple solutions. As I am a well-informed customer, (maybe too informed for some) I am always appreciative of techs who are not scared off by my technical questions and don't try to snow me. Tony had no problem that I knew the jargon and the systems in play, and was a consummate professional. He even stated that he wouldn't be suggesting a maintenance program as it was obvious I had that in hand. The price for the call was very fair ($79) and the price for the service performed was also fair. This alone sets them apart from most HVAC people in the western suburbs where up-front gouging is the norm. Too many companies both big and small want to charge you crazy prices just to show up and then have the stones to put the screws to you from there on. He never came close to suggesting I replace my 18 year old system. For HVAC folks, that's test number 1. LOL It's clear to me that Harmonic is building a reputable business that will provide a valued service without all the greedy nonsense. They are not a bare-bones cheapest-on-the-block operation by any means, but they are also clearly not out to rip you off like so many others. I have no doubt they will be around for a long time. I recommend Harmonic and will call them again when I need an HVAC pro.

Betty is always kind and helpful on the phone. Tim (the owner) and his son provided a fair quote for a heat pump and installed it last summer. Unfortunately, after it was installed, it stopped working approximately six different times and follow-up visits were needed. Water dripped onto our ceiling from the drain pan, and I had to have it professionally repaired. They finally got the system working. Did I mention this happened in the middle of the summer with a newborn? I decided to let the cost of the ceiling repair go, as I felt bad for them working on the system in the heat. In the fall, we decided to use another local HVAC company moving forward. They pointed out that Krope and Son hadn't installed the correct filter size, and had instead jammed an incorrect size into the new system. Now, one year later, it's been discovered that the drain pan was actually broken and siliconed together. I called Tim to ask why they did it this way, and he completely lost his temper, spoke down to me, and used the time to badmouth his competitor. Boy, am I glad I never filled out the sheets he had asking for recommendations to neighbors and friends. Guess they've lost our business for good.

Nice guy and he diagnosed the issue without really doing a lot of troubleshooting (the main panel was bad as I suspected all along). They had me sign a contract that specifically says '...Buyer may cancel this transaction at any time prior to the midnight of the third business day after the date of this transaction.' Additionally, I was required to pay a $306 deposit for the repair. I called this morning to cancel as I had already (2 weeks earlier) rodered a mini-split system (I thought keeping the pellet stove would be a good Idea, but thinking it through, not for $1700. The person who answered the phone (a man) asked why I was canceling - I told him why. He then proceeded to tell me that they had already ordered the part. I told him to send it back. He then asked what they were supposed to do with the part. He then stated that my deposit was non-refundable. On the contract, it CLEARLY states 'If you cancel, any property traded in, any payments made by you under the contract ... will be returned within 10 business days. Up until today, all my contacts with this company had been cordial and professional. Once I went to cancel, I got bullied. I don't feel that the cost of replacing a small panel is worth $1700 and seems a bit predatory. I will be reporting this business.

It served us well but had developed gas leaking valves that could not be replaced. Airtech was contacted because they had installed baseboard heating in the basement some years ago and did a good job. Airtech was out the next day after the initial call. They assessed the old unit and the following day had a new Carrier boiler installed in 6 hours. Superpro job, the new boiler kicks and heats up the house in no time. Though it was an expensive installation, I am very happy with the work and friendly crew which did a great great job. My only criticism is that they left a bit of a mess around the boiler and back steps. But this was minor. It's a reliable company- highly recommend

The fail safe switch they installed did not activated and we had a water leak to include ceiling and floor damage. They denied any responsibility for the matter and were not willing to talk with us about the best way to rectify the matter insurance wise. I would have expected them to talk with the switch manufacture to see what could be done to help their client out. Therefore, we will now be stuck paying the bills because the fail safe switch did not work properly. I would call this just about the worst customer service.
