Here is a review which is a long time coming. For some time now this has been a popular stop for work lunches, going away lunches and we even had one of our Christmas parties at the location. It is quaint, has wonderful staff and we've always been pleased with the food. One thing which is appreciated is they do a very good job with large groups. The recommendation here, as with many places, is to get people to place orders in advance. So you show up for your large group lunch and the dishes just start coming out with minimal wait. They are able to handle larger crowds with ease. A popular favourite is the roo burger which I recommend. read more

Aussie friend wanted to go to an Aussie bar, why not :) It was a Friday night, we managed to get the last table (despite being pretty big underground there, most of the tables were booked with parties!). It was LOUD though! What's that? Huh? Nice enough range of food. Meat pies, kangaroo burgers, and slang nicknames for many :) I just had fries and gravy, which felt like a step below poutine (Canada, you've spoiled me!). I was more interested in the drinks though! Lots of cocktails, blended cocktails, alcoholic coffees, and some Aussie beer (...which is nothing special :P). Was a good time. Servers would ask your name and then remember it the rest of the night which was a nice touch. Came here a couple nights ago for trivia night. Haven't been here for over a decade and glad it's still around! It's rather hard to spot if you're just walking by because it's literally down under. You have to go down a flight of stairs to get to it. This is an Australian pub. So I had to order something Aussie. I had the Australian meat pie and Oz fries. It was decently priced for pub food. Food came out in a reasonable time and the portions were definitely more than I expected! The pie had a good amount of meat and was pretty juicy and tasty. Fries were pretty crispy and tasted great with the gravy that comes with it. Service was great and the trivia and host were awesome! Only downside was the speakers weren't the best, but the host would repeat the question for you if needed. It also got rather warm too. Overall definitely recommended and I would come back for trivia or for drinks! read more

I always pass by the place but have never tried their food. Today I decided to call and ordered a meat pie with fries for takeout. Oh my gosh why didn't I try their food sooner? The portion is ginormous! The meat pie is exploding with meat! And their gravy? BEST. GRAVY. EVER! (And I had never liked gravy before). And even though I started eating the fries 15mins after the food was ready, the fries were still fresh and crispy. I am on diet and supposed to be eating only half the portion, but I finished the whole thing. Feeling guilty but NO REGRETS! gonna slip into a food coma now :) read more

Moose's is a consistently reliable pub. It's got a friendly, warm atmosphere where you're not afraid to make some noise. Nothing pretentious about this place. Just great pub fare served up in monstrous portions. Some Aussie menu items add to the character of this place. An Aussie colleague enjoys coming here so I know I'm getting the real thing. I personally enjoy the lemon lime and bitters - a soda with a bit of an edge. As for the food, I'm a big fan of the schnitzel with pasta. But take a pass on the rather generic onion rings and bland salad. Since these are just side dishes, it's nothing to fret about. read more

Visited this restaurant twice in the past month with my colleagues and friends. It's the first time I visited a pub in Downtown Vancouver. In all the times that I have lived here, I wish that I knew about this pub sooner. This is the place where I was introduced into comfort food and it was absolutely amazing. The combination of great food, great drinks, and great atmosphere truly make this place an amazing place to gather with friends. I had a Chicken Strips and Chips and a Ginger Ale in my last visit here. The meal was good but I am sure that there were better options on the menu. I think I am going to try their Aussie Meat Pie in my next visit with my friends. read more

Standard pub grub and nothing to write home about although this is the only place in Vancouver that serves a chicken parma. Service is the standard rough Aussie style and probably the only pub that doesn't open on weekends. About 15 of us arrived at about 8.30pm on a weekday after making a booking only to be told that they were closing at 9pm. So we quickly ordered our food, shoved it down and sculled our drinks and in between whinged about their closing time. Sadly...we'll be back for more parma. read more

We went to Moose's Down Under for the first time for a fundraiser event. We ordered Rootine, chicken strips and onion rings. We didn't have high expectation but we were very surprised to the quality of food. We love the uniqueness of having kangaroo meat in the poutine, the right ratio of gravy and cheese. I didn't tried to chicken strips but my friend really enjoy it. The pub offer some appetizers for the fundraiser. We thoroughly enjoy their chicken wings, veggie platters, and spring rolls. They had comedians that night. We had a blast that night. The servers were super attentive and friendly. Despite having a huge crowd, they managed to remember our names. We will definitely come back another time to hang out with friends. read more

Ordered the schnitzel with spaghetti. It looked terrific when it arrived but one taste told me the meat was off. Cut off a second piece & it was raw! Called the waitress over to tell her about the problem, and she actually gave me attitude - asked if I had ever eaten schnitzel before......(yes i have).....but know bad meat when I taste it. After speaking to the cook, she came back to our table and apologized, saying we should have never been served that. Her apology was nice but her original rudeness (as if I was making it up), still grates. Unfortunately I wouldn't trust the food here again. You've been warned. read more

We went there around lunch time so place are little empty. Excellent spot for group and nice pub. It is a hidden place in city but great bar with lots of good food. I ordered DUD ( I think It is a popular one. ) It is a little big to me but you should've tried it ! The price is also reasonable, friendly staff. Personally, they are better than red robin. If you like watching a game, you enjoy the ambience. We almost ordered 15 food but we didn't waite much. They served as fast as they could. They could handle a lot of portions. read more

Awesome hidden gem! I had the award winning burger, it was amazing. My friend had the lamb burger, also amazing! We loved that the burgers came with salads not fries, and it was plenty of food.l to eat without feeling super stuffed afterwards. Staff was great, they joked back at us after we were joking with them. The place was a little hard to find as we didn't know where we were going, but know that the restaurant is downstairs then it will be easier to find. Wednesday night they have a pretty fun trivia, a huge number of teams (so your chances of winning aren't great, if that matters). Servers are sweet as can be. Cocktails are a mixed bag. Liquor selection is ok. I would propose that we agree that Australian pubs are not known for their fine cuisine. Even then, this food is pretty sub-par. How do you make snitzel (breaded, pan-fried chicken breast) so tasteless? They have a big menu, and after sampling a couple things, I feel confident in telling you to eat beforehand and then grab a beer and some fun here. read more

Pretty typical pub food (3/5 - $14-$18). Chicken parmies aren't everywhere and at Moose's down under is where you'd find your dozen picks. You can get them with mac n cheese, poutine style or straight up tomato sauce with parmasan. Since I'm at an Australian pub, why not get the outback Australian parmie. This is with BBQ sauce, caramelized onions and you know it, cheese! It comes with fries and salad. They do have a few salad dressings to choose from and since I'm killin' it with cheese tonight, I got blue cheese dressing. My friend got the Italian which looked yellowish and different to what I'm used to. The size of the parmies were huge. I ate half and the other was my leftovers for two days. Maybe I eat very little, maybe I don't. Only complaint is the that they should change their oil a bit more often. The overused oil smell was not pleasant. Note: They charge you to for side of mayo but hot water and lemon is free. read more

Moose's Down Under is an Australian bar with a pretty large menu (one menu is entirely dedicated to just chicken parmies from around the world!) Boyfriend brought me here since he been telling me about their kangaroo poutine (a roo-tine if you will!) for ages and I absolutely LOVED how it tasted as well! It's an absolute must try if you're going. Drink menu also has a lot of variety and I recommend trying the sperm shots. Great atmosphere and the owner is a lovely woman and it's definitely one of my new favourite places to go to nowadays. read more

Found this place on Yelp near our hotel during a stay in Vancouver. We were intrigued by the Australian and Canadian meshed menu. I ordered the meat pie (I grew up with my Grandmother making a British version of these) and my husband had the burger with poutine fries. Both dishes were excellent. Food came out hot and very quickly. Service was a little slow, other than that, there were no big complaints. Would come back next time we are in town. read more

Dropped in here on Aust day and this place was just pumping .Great crowd singing along to classic Australian songs, classic. This place is amazing! I travel all over for work and I have been to just about every major city in Canada and the US and this place is one of my favorite places I've ever visited. The food was great! I wanted to have a kangaroo skewer and a meat pie but they unfortunately were out of both. The bartender recommended I try the chicken parm so I did and I was not disappointed. I also started with the hot wings and they had a great flavor and were very crispy. Food was great but the service was even better. They really made me feel like I was welcome and I felt like I was was home at my local bar where everyone knows my name (this is really important when you travel as much as I do). I even had a delightful conversation with the owner and she went over the rules with me of my new favorite sport "Australian Football". I will be heading back here every time I'm in town and hopefully I'll finally get to try the meat pies and kangaroo : ) read more

I've been down to the land of oz before and this is no representation of the hospitality or food that is served. There are some classics, but it's all jumbled in with Western and Eastern foods. Maybe because I'm Asian so they automatically get all stiff and don't care. Whatever. Popcorn for $4, yes. Beer? Overpriced. Fried foods, too much of it for too expensive relative to portion size. Don't bother, it's a waste of your time, money better spent at chain stores like Joeys or Cactus Club. Salad was DIRTY, did they just take it out of the bag and toss it? As an Australian I actually tend to avoid places like this like the plague. There are cultural cliche's galore and it is about Australian as Fosters*. The cocktail list is stuck in a time warp from a time that I think never existed, and the food is a strange combination of items that can be be describe as "eclectic international bar cuisine". However on the upside they do stock a Little Creatures Pale Ale and I believe Coopers Pale Ale as well. We came here in a large group and they also ran tabs and remembered names for each individual in a group of around 20. I never waited too long for a drink and the service was friendly and efficient. * No one has drunk Fosters in Australia since the 80's and you will struggle to find it in general. Yet due to a international marketing campaign you can find it being sold all over the world. I would have better luck getting a Foster in Baghdad than Bondi. read more

I came here for lunch with some colleagues since we couldn't decide what to do that day. Since none of us had ever been to Moose's, we figured... why not? And that turned out to be a great reason to try it! I grabbed the Big DUD (the Down Under Deluxe burger but with bacon, cheddar, and mushrooms.) I was actually pretty impressed at the quality of the burger. The patty was nice and homemade, juicy, and full of flavour! Considering I'd never been, I wouldn't hesitate to head back for a casual lunch. The menu's not amazing but it's got a good selection of familiar foods as well as some "authentic" Australian selections. It was unfortunate that our Australian colleague didn't come along as I would've loved to hear his opinion of the foods offered. read more

I came back last week with a few people for lunch and we all decided to order some booze. For some reason I thought ordering a strawberry margarita from an Aussie pub would be a fantastic idea. I was half-right. When it arrived, I took a sip and it took me a minute to figure out why it didn't taste like sweet strawberry goodness. I could see the seeds, so at some point there WAS a strawberry in the blender. And it was pink. I had a few of the other girls take a sip and it gave 2 of them a look of utter horror. The waitress had spilled it on the way over and had to remake it, so I decided to just be nice and drink it, and order something else next time. It wasn't so bad that I had to stop. And then it dawned on me. This margarita was pure tequila. I had ONE and I was sloshed before my food even got to the table. The food was AWESOME. I don't know if it was because I was drunk or not, but I know the booze made me finish every last bite. Normally I can't eat that much food at once. I ordered the veggie burger and fries and something was just so heavenly about it. Once I was finished I even stole a few fries from my lunch buddies. What the deuce? Absolutely felt so comfortable just letting go of all the stress from work in this entertainment venue/restaurant bar. Never thought I'd be down for trivia nights, but this Aussie one knows how to make trivia appealing and fun for anyone. Sometimes, they may add bingo or hand games between rounds. The waiters and waitresses remember your name and are so warm. They can be ready to joke with you whenever. Private venues can be reserved. The shots are delicious. My recommendation is the "Quick F**k". You may get one on the house on your birthday, even when your parents are there. We decided to try this place because it was close to where we were staying and we were looking for good comfort food. We came on a Friday night and there was nice live music, but the food stands on its own and makes this a favorite spot to come back to. The poutine is good, drinks cleverly named and tasty, the pumpkin soup is not to be missed. Where everybody knows your name . . . Seriously! In the last two weeks I've gone to Moose's with two separate groups of people. Each time the waitress goes out of her way to remember the names of each person at our table! There were 18 of us the first time, 10 the second time. She was never wrong with a name - not even once! Now in my books when someone in the service industry goes out of the way to remember your name, they are definitely above average. This place is a bar. They have some great pub food. I enjoyed their "Roo Burger" (supposedly kangaroo meat - who really knows for sure?). It was tasty, although dry and probably a bit overcooked. Their steak sandwich was great. If you are looking for a fun place in the downtown area to go with a group of people, check it out. read more

While the food is nothing more than typical pub grub, the service in itself is entertaining as it's so comically ridiculous. The waitress demanded our orders before we even sat down and had a minute to review the menu... She was worried it was going to be busy, and decided it would take too long to be polite. The food, was average at best, but it fit well for the average atmosphere and below average service. Oh, and she called the middle aged woman in our group "sweetie" one too many time.... The best part? This is the second time I've been there in two years, and it happened both times! If I'm in the mood for bad service and average pub, I'll surely be back! read more
