Cute local cafe! I've only been here for lunch but I love the atmosphere and food. Friendly service and yummy food. They receive most of their food from local vendors so everything is fresh. I've enjoyed the chicken pesto sandwich with soup (lunch combo) and the tuna salad wrap. They do not have a kids menu posted but I've asked about kids food items and they are happy to make something. We love their baked goods and smoothies. They offer breakfast items but I haven't had a chance to try those yet. Overall- great cafe for coffee, breakfast or lunch. My last visit and review was in October 2018, just after this business had gone through a sever face lifting when Andy Tankanow had new management take over for a few months and then sold the business to Josie and Chris who then sold the business to the current owners, 2 brothers, I believe. They update the kitchen to full service and added a tavern that is open in the evening. It is very nice, still miss the old antique tables that were original to Andy's place. Today I stopped by after my visit to the Huron Valley Human Society. I was looking to try a bagel sandwich, but did not find any on the lunch menu. Darn it! At home, I see on the website, they have bagel sandwiches until 11 AM. Just missed it. I tried the chicken salad and cappuccino with oak milk and gingerbread flavor. The flavor of the cappuccino was different, not sure it due to the oak milk or the flavoring. The sandwich was fresh, not sure garlic aioli is my flavor. It was served on toasted bread instead of a house bun. At this time, I give it a OK review. Will try to get there for breakfast next time. read more

Wonderful little cafe - people were super friendly and food delicious. I had a pecan danish that was excellent - not overly sweet as they sometimes are. Holy crap, this food is really good! I work at the Huron valley humane society so this place is conveniently close to me for my lunch breaks. The white chicken chili is DELICIOUS and I highly recommend their lunch sandwiches, especially tuna sandwich on sourdough. This is the softest toast I have ever had. The presentation was wonderful and the workers are so kind. They also offer a good amount of of sugar free flavors for people like me who want to watch their sugar intake. read more

This is a really great place to work if you want your time to be wasted. I worked here for 3 weeks and on my day off I got a call from the cook (not the owner) telling me I was fired and didn't give me a proper reason. When I asked if it was a performance issue he said it was too much to talk about right then. Mind you the day before I was working with the owner and the cook and no one had given me any feedback about me doing anything wrong. I was working here for the grand opening of the tavern and many people had complained to me about their pizzas being undercooked/ over an hour late. So of course as a server I brought that up to the cook and owner. I guess they couldn't handle honest feedback. I hope they do better with handling their workers in the future. Shoutout to Elle, the general manager, she was so amazing and is so talented in all she did. If you ever go there please give her props for all the immature grown men she has to deal with. read more

Yeah for another place removing dyes! Makes me like the place even more. ....... Nice cafe and the type of place I like to stop while traveling. Food was good and did not disappoint. BUT why would a place that draws in people wanting a good salad, sandwich, or bakery item, have pickles with dyes?! My daughter loves pickles but we do not allow for any artificial dyes (or artificial flavors or preservatives) and this is the type of place where we can usually count on skipping the garbage. Let me start by saying that before today I would have given MoonWinks a 4 or 5 star rating. The place is adorable, the energy is usually great, it seems clean, and the food is great. But they went from slow service to ridiculously slow service by staff who clearly had other things to do, rather than make sandwiches. When I ordered our two sandwiches, I was told it was a 20-25 minute wait. That was fine. It was 1230pm, and we ordered in the middle of lunch rush. It is now 1:15, and when I just walked back inside to inquire, I firstly had to wait for nearly 5 minutes while two employees discussed their social plans, and they clearly saw me there. Then, I said I was checking in, as I was told my lunch order would be ready a bit ago. At this, one of the women, looking put out, asked my name, and looked over her shoulder to the sandwich counter, and said to me, 'there are three orders ahead of yours.' So, I asked for an estimate on time. Again looking like she was not interested in being helpful, she said, 'i'd say 15 minutes.' I have worked in food service for years, and I will tell you that it should never take a crew of three employees 15 minutes to fill THREE SANDWICH ORDERS. read more

This review is a few weeks overdue! I have not left a review to any establishment but needed to give a shoutout to the staff and Owners at MoonWink's Cafe. We had a family reunion in Ann Arbor in mid-April 2024 and we had most of our meals planned out but I was having trouble finding a place that could accommodate 30+ people for brunch at noon on Saturday. With some Yelp Research I found MoonWink's but wasn't able to reach anyone by phone, so I sent an email. From the reply I received -it was magic from there - Brian and Kevin took care of us! Construction was just completed in the back room that they opened up for us to use. They catered to us and were so kind and accommodating any of our needs. They had the forethought to prepare coffee and baked goods as they took orders for soups and sandwiches for our group. Everyone thought he food was delicious and high praise for the pastrami sandwich. Elle and all the staff were amazingly patient and kind. We enjoyed our visit! I found this hidden café in a small town in Dixboro called Moonwinks Café about 3 months ago and I have visited 4 times. It's located at the corner of Dixboro and Plymouth roads in Ann Arbor, MI. I appreciate the early morning opening from this café as there is not much at all in the 10 miles that I travel past this area. This cozy little nest has seating inside and outside. Inside cup of coffee is bulky and refills are .25 cents. As I walk in the atmosphere is homey, still & quiet. I can see who the regulars are as they are sitting reading the papers and enjoying their choice brew and relaxing. I am not greeted as I go up to the counter to order and the employee has a sadness about her. I ordered my coffee and waited as it was prepared. Other customers enter the business and before he can even get to the counter, she say's hello by name. They have a mini conversation and he orders. Obviously, she knows this customer as another customer comes in and the scenario repeats. My coffee is done, temperature is just right but nothing special and as I leave there is no response at all. MoonWink's is a darn fine cafe/sandwich/ice cream shop. They mostly serve as my "cutoff man" when I don't feel like making the full trek to Zingerman's Coffee Company. They brew Zingerman's Coffee after all. And they do it well. This place also has lot to to offer in its right: -It is home to a turkey gouda wrap which is on my top five sandwiches of all time list. -The breakfast bagel sandwiches also rock...and come with little swords in them (always a plus). -Their Superman ice cream is one of the best I've had. -I appreciate that they not only serve Zingerman's Espresso, they: 1. Know how to use it. I've had great espresso shots and Americanos here. 2. They also serve the coffee of the month from Zingerman's. This is where I first had my beloved Rwandan. The last point I want to make deserves more than a bullet point or number... MoonWink's is staffed by nice, friendly people. I've been here at lunch and other times when things have been hectic. This crew does not rattle. I appreciate that. All of that said, don't take my word for it. Check this place out for yourself. read more

If you drive drive for a few miles east of I-23 on Plymouth Road, you'll find the cute little village of Dixboro. Many small townships and villages around here have largely been eaten by Greater Ann Arbor, but Dixboro has its own small but cute shopping district that includes MoonWink's Cafe. It's a little shmaltzy, but strangely attractive, and I can tell it attracts a loyal local following. The coffee and espresso drinks are also really reasonably priced- not the very lowest prices I've seen, but close. I got a really strong iced Americano for $1.67 including tax. They also sell sandwiches, ice cream, and other treats. Inside, there's a sort of "country kitchen" feel to the decor, and while it may be a little kitschy, it's very welcoming. The arrangement of the seating area encourages long lazy afternoons drinking coffee and talking with friends or reading. They have a couple shelves of books, and there's a sign inviting you to take one to read or leave one you're done with. They also have a variety of board games for patrons to use. read more

Updated review... there are new owners who have a great track record of running a thriving business but they have yet to bring back the homey feel I once loved although I think they are trying. But they took away all the little kid toys and games and are discontinuing the famous squash soup so I am not sure if I will frequent there as much as I would want to, unless they bring in another vegan option. (still worth noting) I have been going to Moonwinks since the very first day they opened, this was a home away from home for me for so many years, so I was heart broken to hear that there would be new owners I had high hopes for good changes, but it seems more and more things we loved are gone. I loved their warm ambiance and the way I felt so much like family, I even met my husband here. My kids also loved to come here for bagels, doughnuts, ice cream and so much more, but now no doughnuts, no ice cream and no juice for kids I was surprised to still find a high chair to use. It was useless since the small tables are now too small for all our food and games. We all left disappointed with no reason we could find to return. I am heartbroken to see all our memories gone, but even more sad that they will continue to get business because of their location, I can only hope it will be desolate during the weekend. read more

I was sooo delighted when I found this little place was open for take out and even had a few socially distanced tables and chairs outside, as early as May. I come for their coffee drinks and vegan baked goods in the morning. This would be a one star review had the cold brew coffee not been amazing. Firat off, you walk in and instead or rewriting the chalkboard menus, they printed things out on printer paper and taped it to the chalkboard, defeating the purpose. The turkey and gouda sandwich was decidedly average, at best. For it being toasted bread, it was soggy from overly wet ingredients, including the cheese. My girlfriend had the bahn-mi and it was so bland, that we questioned whether it was food or not. I guess the locals we're right, avoid this place. Drive elsewhere. They serve a variety of salads, soups, pastries and your favorite cup of joe in fiestaware. Breakfast choices include several bagel sandwiches and quiche. For lunch, soups and salads which are delicious. I have a particular affinity for the Cherry Hill salad which is mixed greens, cherries, tomato, cucumber, onions, egg and cheese. Prices generally run under 10 dollars for lunch. 8 different espresso drinks and several non items. The chai tea on ice is outstanding. Decor is windowy with orange and burgundy colors. This is a little cafe near the UM East Medical Campus. It's right down the road from where I work, so I've popped in a couple times. Unfortunately, I've not yet had anything that's got me clamoring to get back. I've gone during M-F lunch hours. If you need to get right in and out for lunch real quick, I'm not sure that Moonwink's is the best choice, especially if you want something they have to prepare, like a wrap. With that being said, the wait has never been long, but it takes a little bit of time to get your food. I've never had any trouble finding a place to sit during lunch, although they seem to do good business during that time. Atmosphere is pretty casual and not loud or anything. Staff has always been nice too. Overall it's a pleasant place. Aside from their coffee (which is Zingerman's, I believe), I've only ever ordered wraps here. And both times, the wraps were just OK. Luckily the prices are good, but my reaction to the wraps have been a shrug. Most recently I got a breakfast wrap and the sausage in it was kinda rubbery and weird. The cafe is close to my work and I'm hoping that I just haven't found the right food yet. Will definitely update this review if my impressions change after I've had the chance to try their soup and maybe a couple other things. read more

My husband and I moved to Dixboro a few months ago and we have been frequenting Moonwinks. The restaurant is nice and cozy and we love to sit on the couch and play cards while we wait for our food. I will say that it is not the quickest service (takes a while to get our food/drinks), but we don't mind. Our absolute favorite thing to get here are the breakfast sandwiches (I get Dix Village and he gets Lonnie's Lox). We have also tried sandwiches that we like (Pesto Chicken, Turkey Reuben, and Banh Mi). We also get Chai Tea and coffees/lattes and don't have any complaints. I'm excited for them to be back up and running once all is safe again (COVID-19). We've been missing our local breakfast spot! read more

I have been visiting Moonwinks, after moving to the area about a year ago, relatively frequently. Almost everything about moonwinks cafe is absolutely wonderful! Each time I have the opportunity to stop in my food is served fresh with a smile. What I notice the most each time I step into Moonwinks is the commitment to satisfaction and personable service each of the employees have; unlike a Starbucks or other large coffee chain, one is given the opportunity to feel valued when visiting Moonwinks--even during a rush! I am leaving this review because the past few times I have visited Moonwinks, including yesterday, I have asked to speak to an owner or general manager (to express my appreciation for their wonderful food, drinks, and staff); each time I was met with the response "sorry, neither of them are here right now". While maybe I shouldn't be SO concerned, I still find it upsetting (and yet, admirable) that the staff of young adults at Moonwinks are left without general manager instruction, at least in the mornings! As someone with nearly a decade of experience in food and coffee service, I know that even the most committed team of young adults can need some support at times, especially when there's a line out the door. I would like to be given the opportunity to meet and speak to these general managers/owners one day because, as of right now, it seems like a bunch of 20 something's running the show--which is great, in a sense, but long story short, as a worker and the child of a successful and dedicated business owner, it's concerning when you never see the "face" of the company. I understand that Moonwinks has been a staple of this quite little village in the Ann Arbor area for a while now and is recently under new management/ownership; from what I read about Moonwinks from past reviews and articles, it doesn't seem like my concern of "who are the owners??" was an issue before. I truly wish the cafe all of the best and, again, hope to speak to either of the owners at some point to express just how dedicated their staff is. read more
