New owners all they sell is coffee. they ruined the place . They change the decor and cafe concept

I am very disappointed. My family and I have been going to MoonWinks for the past 3 years and love it. It had a cozy charm and welcomed you to stay for a while with friends and family. The coffee was great - Zingermans and I am a huge fan of the lox bagel. Unfortunately Moonwinks has recently been purchased and the new owners are dismantling the charm, the place is sparse and unwelcoming, they have taken away the books and games that we loved to play. They are changing the menu and even considering taking away the ice cream, which was a highlight for our children. I would not recommend going there anymore, which makes me very sad as I loved this place. It is a shame when new owners don't take the time to understand who their customers are before they ruin a wonderful spot. read more

As a mom whom is hoping for a positive, healthy and caring environment for her two teenagers to work at...I can't say enough about Gerry and all of her patience, and honesty throughout their journey thus far at Moonwinks. When I ask them how work went, if they were on shift with Gerry, they both mention how considerate, appreciative and accepting of blunders and misinterpretations that will definitely be expected with a new job. She is never condescending or accusing. I thank her for recognizing and remembering what it is to be like in regards to a teenager with learning customer service, job tasks, and responsibility out side of school, sports and family life. I am a regular here and used to love the coffee - last time I went in the coffee was flavorless and not brewed well. Bring back the Zingerman's coffee Moonwinks!! Missing the old ambiance.... read more

This place is more of a lunch place than a coffee shop. The decor seems a little bare-bones and lackluster. I had the hot chocolate which was decent, but nothing special. It wasn't too loud, so it was a good atmosphere to read in, but I'd rather go somewhere with some more character. read more

This is becoming my regular place for picking up coffee. I think I am liking this place, it's location just outside Ann Arbor, close to my work, very decent looking building and coffee is good. I am a good coffee person. After moving to Ann Arbor, I was looking for some nice coffee. They serve Zingerman's coffee which is really good. Someday soon I would like to enjoy breakfast, brunch or food at this place. Then I might have more to say about this place but so far it's been good place. Staff seemed very friendly. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this little cafe tucked away in the small town of Dixboro. The food is basically your classic "soup & sandwich combos" but it's yummy and usually ready in about 10 minutes. The coffee/espresso bar is great (mochas are my favorite). The cafe itself is cozy, homey, and a little off the beaten path which gives it a relaxed atmosphere. A few reasons I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5: the service is helpful although not always very warm, and there are limited options for GF folks (just salad or soup). For a resturant that serves predominately sandwiches, I think there is room for improvement in this area. Overall, the coffee and coziness makes it's a nice stop for a lunch or coffee break. read more

I stop by here frequently. Convenient when passing thru northeast Ann Arbor, waiting for your kid to finish volunteering at the Humane Society, or if you want a place to chat/study/work that isn't as busy as campus. Reliable customer service, but the champion of great service is the manager who always seems to be there to coach her staff. Good drinks, food, and wifi service. Would be nice to have more outlets but I'm grateful they let me work there a few hours if I need to. read more

I love Moonwink's. It's a cute cafe with good food and a friendly, local atmosphere. My favorite part about them is that they support local businesses. They always have Dixboro or local honey/syrup for sale, and the products they use and sell are from the area as well (Zingerman's, FlatOuts). My favorites are the breakfast wrap with bacon in the morning, or the turkey & gouda wrap, grilled, at lunch -- the honey mustard gives it a good kick. Their lattes are really good too. read more

Moonwink's gets 5 stars from this self-proclaimed coffee (shop) aficionado! While retaining the original look and feel, Moonwink's subtle changes are working! The new owners are extremely community minded; they are committed to elevating their staff providing training and mentorship -- and a happy barista makes the BEST coffee!! If you drive by MoonWink's on your way to Star*****, you're driving too far. Stop in, grab a cup of coffee (and a snack or lunch!). AND if you're NOT happy -- tell the owners -- they really do want to know how they can change for the better!! read more

Moonwinks is a great place to get a coffee on the north side of town. Andy knows coffee, and knows how to pull a good shot. Their coffee will blow away anything you'd get at (ahem) Biggby, Mujo, Beansters, Espresso Royale. They use Zingerman's coffee too and you can often get an interesting and good cuppa brewed joe (Brazilian Peaberry, for instance). I don't eat the food there (prices seem high) but the sandwiches and soups look great. Baked goods are nice treats to go with coffee. As for atmosphere: the decor is more cutesy than trendy but bright and pleasant. It has a very local feel and attracts a mostly mature, diverse crowd. Many folks seem to come for an extended stay, attached to the free wifi. Plus, no annoying music being piped overhead. How refreshing. I like Moonwinks. My friend and I hit it one or twice a week for coffee and I always leave feeling good. It's only a couple minutes from US23/Plymouth Rd so if you're looking for something new why not give it a try? read more

I was excited to see that they have smoothies! I was told that they're made with organic ingredients, so I was optimistic about the food. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich, and was disappointed to see that the chicken was processed chicken breast, with the fake grill marks. :-/ read more

Over-priced. Would have been happy if it wasn't for the thin bread and small portion of meat. The kicker was Mrs Personality behind the counter. i went to Moonwinks based on reviews here... first, let me point out that this place is in Dixboro, 10-15 minutes from Ann Arbor proper. so, that's a drag. while i enjoyed the quiche, sort of, my experience was irrevocably marred by the fact that their wireless internet connection went out and no one could seem to fix it. not coincidentally, the place emptied out immediately. i was willing to purchase breakfast lunch and dinner there in order to use it, but now i'm at a different place because Moonwinks can't maintain their connection. if wifi is a priority in making your choice, go elsewhere - as i will from now on. read more

Moonwinks has taken on new ownership. I frequented this café since they opened and enjoyed their soups, lattes and ice cream. The sandwiches were just OK. New management has changed the menu (very limited-hope you like one of the two sandwich options) to present what they believe is healthier options for more value. The healthier part of that equation may be true but there is no value. Coffee is more expensive than Starbucks and sandwiches and a pickle slice are Zingerman's priced. The coffee, pastries and sandwiches have all increased from 15 to 50% in price. But what is most noticeable is the change in attitude. Previous staff, especially Gerry, treated customers like family and considered individual needs. The new owners, particularly the young woman, are dismissive, defensive and clearly inexperienced at customer service. Gerry needs to give a crash course on how to run a café stat! While I have grown accustomed to Ann Arbor arrogance, it takes real skill to develop it at the level the young woman has in such a short period of time. This will probably be a short term problem since I don't expect this café to survive without major changes. read more

I've been going to Moonwinks a year now and probably have eaten lunch here two dozen times, so obviously like it a lot. The soups, especially their home-made squash soup, are fabulous, and the family-owned atmosphere makes it special, truly a "ma and pa" sort of place. I especially like the chicken salad, and their wraps. The quiches are equally tasty. You can't go wrong, and the assortment of teas, coffees, ice cream, and Zingermann baked goods, are mighty fine too. It's a small place; they have about 15 tables and you order and pay and then they deliver the food to you, sometimes calling out your name. The colors of the Moonwinks are bright and fresh, different than you expect from the outside colonial architecture. Photographs are for sale on the walls by a local photographer. Look well as you go through Dixboro on Plymouth road east of Ann Arbor, as it's easy to miss, but it's right next to the antique shop on the north side of the road. A great way to spend a 75 degree November day in Michigan is with ice cream. Guess who has ice cream in November. Yep - Moonwinks. They also have amazing brownies the size of your head to go with it. And, they still have their patio tables and chairs out to enjoy this wonderful weather! I work right down the road from Moonwinks so we always call ahead to pick up food which is super nice and its so easy since it's so close. Literally the best lettuce in their salads. Sometimes you will go to a restaurant and order a salad and you'll get some yucky iceberg that's limp and just gross. They have the freshest romaine and spinach I've ever eaten from a restaurant and that's what keeps me coming back. I'm not one to order coffee in the middle of the day so I've never tried it. But their cakes, muffins, and cookies are super yummy and always look so fresh. Great place. read more

I almost don't want to drop this review and tell any more people about this place, it's starting to get too busy. Cozy, very nicely done independent cafe in a strategic location (East Plymouth Road being otherwise a barren wasteland in terms of a quick, modestly priced sandwich spot). It has a Plymouth vibe -- you forget you are in Ann Arbor, frequently a bonus (actually you are in the village of Dixboro). Handcrafted personal flair and attention to detail are all around you, from the funky, cheerful decor to the nice menu boards and interesting selection of counter items. Sandwiches are big and great (Zingerman's bread plus mighty fine ingredients), mucho menu selections. Excellent quiche, crunchy salads, good coffee drinks, I second all that review karma. Soups are from scratch, nice variety, and very, very good. A bit of outdoor seating. Thanks to free wifi it's possible to perch here for a non-rush-hour meal and do a little bit of work. But I very consciously DON'T table-hog here: there aren't many, and the personable and service-oriented owner needs to be rewarded with lots of cash for serving up such a swell, snug place. 54555/ 5 visits. read more

Today was my first time here, the food was really good - loved the coffee! I thought it was well worth the price. The gal who took my order was super nice and one of the other gals behind the counter was very nice too.. but the girl making the sandwich gave me an eye roll and severe attitude when I asked if she could hold the ranch dressing on my sandwich. She was quite rude! The place was not busy and she had not even started my sandwich yet, so don't know what her problem was...Some people should re-think working with the public. read more

So... They serve zingermanns coffee. I am not a zingermanns fan around the board. I suppose others are. The sandwiches are as others have said fine, but I could make this at home at 1/16th the cost. Ironically, however, this place does offer home baked goods and other ambiance which is not afforded by other locations. Check it out but don't expect to be blown away.
