Wow, so there is life in Buckhead. A friend had their birthday party here after dinner at Loco's and I guess the best way I could describe it is that it hasn't changed much since I've been in college. Yes, they expanded, but the first thing I remember when walking in is that it smelled just as bad as it did a decade ago... ...anyways, it's not really a rip on the place. Oh, good ol' Moon Dogs. This place is a madhouse most weekends I have gone. Most of the people come in bigger groups or pairs of friends. For some reason there are always these nerdy "kids" saying something stupid to us when my friends and I go out. Although, this place is at least guaranteed to play the radio Hip Hop hits on the somewhat small dance floor and alternative in the other larger room. In my opinion it can satisfy the people who hate Hip Hop and the people who hate rock/alternative. There are pool tables (usually used regularly) and darts for those who need some interaction that doesn't involve dancing. It is not the cleanest or, by far, upscale place in any way BUT it is always our last resort for at least having a good time with my friends if the venue we tried first sucked music and crowd wise. Moondogs is one of my favorite bars! They have a variety of things and all you could really ask for. A GREAT staff, A karaoke room, EDM room (that has stages and a pole to bust some moves on), a main bar and a rooms for pool, flip cup, beer pong AND darts. They also have a lot of areas to hang out at, tables and GIANT JENGA. There's so much to do there, there's no way you could be bored. During the week they have different special/themed nights. Dirty college bar is a great description for this place. Crowd is pretty young and drinks to sloppy excess like people who just got fakes or turned 21. The crowd, however, was definitely turned up in the EDM room, which I really enjoyed. The other rooms were more chill, and you can play pool or do karaoke. There are poles on stages to bring out the stripper within. I like that you can "choose your vibe" at this place. It was super crowded so moving from room to room was a bit difficult, however. Drinks are weak and hard to get which makes this place not so awesome. I didn't even feel a buzz from the Jagerbomb I ordered, and I am not a heavy drinker. I just recently joined several of my co-workers on our Atlanta team, and a bunch of them wanted to hang out at Moondogs last night. I'm up for just about anything, but out of curiosity I decided to read some reviews about the place ahead of time. After reading tons of negative or at least sarcastic reviews, I was less than enthused about heading to Moondogs. I'm definitely glad I went, despite the bad reviews! I know it was a little different going with a big group of work friends than if I were solo, but I was still pleasantly surprised. The prices are extremely reasonable, the bartenders very friendly and provide fast service to first timers and regulars alike. The crowd seemed pretty mixed as well, which wasn't reflected in some other reviews. My group of work friends varied in age from early 20s to early 30s, and I saw some in the bar who were clearly 40-50. Don't get me wrong, this is still predominantly a college hang out and I saw more polo shirts and flip flops than I thought I could handle, but it wasn't overwhelming and didn't take away from the overall experience of the place. Moondogs is what you make of it. If you are determined to have a bad time and not mix with the crowd, that will probably be your experience no matter your age or whatever else. However, if you are willing to kick back, relax, and have a good time...you'll have a great time here. We will all definitely be going back soon! read more

Usually enough seating for you and your friends (we lucked out last time and got a huge round table right next to one of the bars). Cheap drinks, and fun things to do while drinking. The bartenders are really nice and quick too. There are a few different rooms with different bars and different things to do (i.e. dance, beer pong, hang out, pool, or sit at a bar). The main negative is PARKING. You WILL GET BOOTED, if you park in the side lot next to the bar by Loco's, trust me, I found out the hard way. That's a smooth 75 bucks. Came here with a bunch of friends and we actually had a good time. Showed up around 10. It was so empty, but the place filled up quick. There was a diverse mix of people. I've always had a good time here, but you have to have the right expectations. This is a very casual, laid back dive bar. The demographic is typically young 20's. They have cheap drinks and lots of space for doing what you do at bars. They have several rooms, karoake, pool, darts, dancefloor, etc as well. Hidden gem of Buckhead. There's like 4 bar in one, its definitely popular but not super crowded, and it's not way overpriced like a lot of other bars in the area. Darts, karaoke, live bands, all sorts of different things going on. It can get smoky sometimes, since you can smoke here, but that's good and bad depending the person. Don't drive though, because there's no parking and you shouldn't drive anyway after going to a bar. read more

Let the record show that I am an ex-fraternity guy from a large urban university in Atlanta (GSU) and have been making appearances at Moondogs for the past four years. Sometimes it is nice to go out and have some drinks with some friends wearing something simple like jeans and a t-shirt and people don't stare you down like you just walked into Phipps Plaza. I don't even think there are enough bars like Moondogs in Atlanta since the rest of them cater to the yuppie crowd I try to avoid. My time here was relatively uneventful. It wasn't too crowded at the bar because most people were standing in the hallways drinking. I don't know about you, but if I'm drinking and there's a chair, I'm so in it (unless there is dancing, but that's not quite the case here). The bartender wasn't too attentive after the DD ordered a coke - even tipping on top of that - so it was clear that if you're not here to get wasted and blow cash on watered down Bud Lite, you're not welcome. A little sad because I could see some potential here to build up to a decent bar, but the pretentiousness makes it a little hard to achieve that. You're a bar. You serve beer. Moon dogs stands out on the strip of bars in Buckhead. In my college days, I was stumbling in and out of most of these bars and they were a blur and mostly the same. Moon dogs is cool cuz all the different rooms that offer something different such as the karaoke room, plenty of rooms for pool, beer pong and other cool stuff. Pretty great for college kids. Sooo....me and two of my friends drove to Atlanta from Charlotte, NC on a Wednesday night for a Braves-Yankees game. We knew we wanted to defintitely go out somewhere, but was unsure if there would be anything good to get into on a Wednesday night. I immediately did my research to see if there were any places that weren't too far from the hotel that we were staying at, which was right outside of the Buckhead Area, about a block away from the Brookhaven MARTA station. After we got back from the game, which the Yankees won by the way, haha...we headed back to the hotel to change, and then the night was about to begin. We drove up to Moondogs and parked across the street in front of some businesses, b/c it was free. I knew my car would be safe there. As we approached Moondogs, there were people enjoying drinks on the outside patio at Peachtree Tavern (a place that was in the same complex as Moondogs). We got our ID's checked, and up the stairs we went. As soon as we walked up the stairs and walked to the left, I immediately thought, "This is it." Well I learned quickly that there was way more to this place than what I saw from just walking up the stairs. We started off with a pitcher of beer, which was very reasonably priced...chatted with the bartender for a bit and she kinda gave us the 411 on the place. We started walking around and I thought I was in heaven. There were two official sized beer pong tables (which we did play on), pool tables, corn hole, a jukebox, foosball tables....basicially a mans dream. I think I fell in love with the room that played nothing but HIP HOP. I'm a big fan of all genres of music, but if you wanna get your dance on, hip hop/top40 usually helps. They had other parts of the place that played other genres of music. I read reviews on the place before we went, but I've always been the kinda person that walked into places or situations with no expectations, so I wanted to see it for myself. I kept reading that the floors were discusting, but I didn't encounter that, and I wore flip flops and I am a self-proclaimed germaphobe, haha. Maybe the floors were clean b/c it was the first day it was open for the week and it was closed for 3-4 days and maybe what's when they clean the floors???? Who knows. I also read that it was a frat hangout and a college hangout. I didn't really witness that either. There was a good male to female ratio in the house. I'm about 5 years removed from college and I had a blast. The only thing that I really didn't like about the place was the mens bathroom. It was small as a closet and there was one big a*s stainless steel urinal that wrapped around the whole bathroom. It looked like a sink that you might find at a barn or something that animals might drink water from, haha. I wasn't feeling the bathroom b/c I'm kinda uncomfortable standing next to another man with no kinda privacy or partician between us. I don't need anybody checking out my stuff, haha. We wanted to check out "Hole in the Wall," which was located downstairs, but we had so much fun at Moondogs, we never left. This place will definitely be getting hit up again the next time I make it back down to the Atlanta area read more

This place was interesting, more on the dive bar side with a mid-20s crowd. Went to play some pool and darts with friends on a Friday night. The place was not too crowded, but people were definitely out. It was not difficult to get a table or dart board, which we appreciated. We ordered drinks at one of the smaller bars near darts and the bartender was not too interactive. His drinks were fine. The only downfall was when Moondogs was closing in ten minutes the bouncers ransack the place screaming at everyone to get out, which was a bit annoying. Some girl friends and I went to Season 52 to celebrate my birthday and then we thought we would keep the night going. My friends suggested Moondogs however, I was quite hesitant due to the extremely negative first experience I had involving one of the managers John who was very rude and unprofessional. After some coercing my friends convinced me to give it a second try. The drinks were decently priced but the music was absolutely horrible (also way to loud) and it shouldn't take 20+ minutes to get one round of drinks. The crowd that this place attracts is a little low class and sloppy. If you want a good night out don't waste your time here, I would suggest hangovers or Buckhead saloon right down the street. read more
