This place is alright. The bar is good for picking up guys if you're seated but not too great if you're trying to get to a bartender. I like the separation to allow for different kinds of music. We were able to get drinks within 10 minutes, which is alright considering that it was around 11pm and so not too crowded. The mood is good and fun, good for a girls night out a bachelorette party of a forget-the-crappy-job evening. Drinks are slightly stronger than the average Atlanta pour (for the price that is great!) but nothing fancy. Also good, we need more down to earth places in Buckhead. I think that we can use a few more places that can entertain both fresh out of college baby faces, almost into the sad 30-34 bracket people who are just relieved to get a mixed drink under $10 (that's a me), and the 'i'm really trying to pull off the half way down to the knees pants and a plain t look, but i'm 35 and everyone is innardly laughing at me' (that's my ex)c crowd. okay, sorry long story short - it's great for a lot of crowds. It happened to come in on Saturday night, on Asian night. It wasn't bad at all. This place is your typical bar with games like beer pong, darts and pool tables. Fun dive bar environment! All the standard trappings, pool tables, darts etc., I went for friday night karaoke! There is a smaller room toward the back with its own bar and a little stage in the corner with 2 mics set up. The bartender, who was Leona on Friday, is also the K.J. She has a great ear and generally makes you sound pretty good, as she is also an impressive singer in her own right. The only drawback is by midnight when it gets crowded, she is pulling double duty between bartending and taking requests. So, the take away is, if you want to sing, get there around 10 PM and you'll practically have the place to yourself like a private room! Went there tonight for poker night. Everything is cool. We're playing poker. There is five people at the table, one is my boyfriend. I'm a black female. One dude, who had been speaking English all night, starts speaking Spanish to two guys at the table. I asked him, "speak English please." One guy gets upset and starts getting loud with me. We start arguing over the fact the only certain people can understand the person DEALING! The guy calls me a b****. I get upset and I go off on the dude. The bar does NOT kick him out. Okay. This place obviously caters more to the college crowd, but there's nothing wrong with that. Moondogs has entertainment for almost everyone: karaoke, dance floor, beer pong, flip cup, darts, pool. What more do you need? The place is dead around 10 PM, but it quickly fills up throughout the night. They have relatively cheap drink specials, and I've randomly received a free shot from a bartender, so I can't complain in that department. They do have a card minimum though (I think it was around $8-10). The music is so-so compared to my favorite place in Buckhead (Red Door Tavern), but it's still decent and dance-able. New Yorker here - coming from such a crazy nightlife, Moondogs matches the intensity and spirit that I am used to. This place is really fun and has a young college crowd on weekends. The parking can get tough if you come late (like what everyone else has said). There are multiple rooms in this bar, rooms for beer pong, rooms for darts,a main bar area, a house/edm stage, and alternative rock room. The place is very smart in terms of being versatile and being capable of catering to multiple crowds.The drinks are literally a fraction of what I'd spend in New York. This is probably why I walk out with my pockets full and a good buzz. There are amazing drink specials: $4 jager bombs ALL night and really affordable pitchers. Definitely get yourself what's called an "INCEPTION BOMB" because this one drink alone will do it for the night ($20). May be a line outside if you come after 12-1. Let the record show: I am an ex fraternity guy from a small, southern liberal arts school. I was the baseball cap and polo shirt wearing, preppy, irritating, and raucously drunk guy for four years (plus another one after I graduated). When I see guys my own age who are acting like we all did when we were 19-23, it makes me cringe. It's a bunch of dudes clinging as tightly to their college habits as their shirts fit now. There are just too many of those guys at Moondogs (and lots of places in Buckhead in general) for me to relax. You can tune them out when you're in college or an out of towner blowing off steam, but seeing those same sad sacks every time you're in Buckhead just makes me want to find a small neighborhood bar with a good beer list instead. read more

I'm inside for no more than 2 minutes and some guys ralphs on the floor and it splashes onto my feet! I swear I turned red, horns sprouted from my head, and a cape magically appeared. Puke on my feet?!?! Thank goodness for friends because they grabbed me and we walked over to the dance floor which made the cape, horns, and redness disappear. The dance floor was packed with college age kids breaking it down. They looked liked they were having a great time. It wasn't my kind of place so I left. Total time inside was about 10 minutes. I had the most fun at Moondogs on a bachelorette trip. We went on a Thursday, it wasn't packed but the people we met were super nice and friendly. The staff was engaging and fun. We went back on Friday night. We're late 20 late, early 30s. The crowd seemed really young, maybe freshman in college age. Definitely recommend. Me and a friend of mine was trying this place out yesterday. Walked in went straight to the bar. Next thing I notice was a dog on the counter and I'm like are they serious? I asked the bar tender who dog it was he said that it was the managers dog. Then the dog came over and went over drink and kept walking to the other side of the bar I want to throw my drink at this point. Let me back up, the Asian bartenders did not want to service they kept looking at us and trying to decide who was going to talk to us we were the only ones at the bar that were black. So the Asian guy finally came over and asked us what we wanted, that was the first strike. Then the dog. After that people started to get loud behind us so I turned around to look and two guys were standing up yelling at a lady a black lady and these guys were white. They were calling her out her name over a game of poker no one defended her I told the bartender to get the manager they were like no that's not our problem. I started walking over to them and the manager finally walked over and tried to calm the lady down and told her she need to calm down or she will get kicked out, said nothing to the guys though. Described to me as a "Georgia Tech bar" it was pretty much exactly what I expected. A college style bar nestled into a larger grouping of about 3 - 4 bars in total, it's a little grungy, kinda fratty, and partially a sports bar/dance club. I've really only ever come midweek to celebrate "Welfare Wednesdays" when they have $1 vodka drinks, $2 "fancier" vodka drinks (think Moscow Mules and Vodka/Red Bull), $1 draft beers, and a few other specials. The drinks are quality and the bartenders super friendly. They have pool, bar games, booth seating, a separate dance floor across the hall, and free popcorn to snack on throughout the evening. Moondogs is also pretty friendly to the sports crowd - they have a lot of big TVs with plenty of channels to satisfy everyone (think NCAA football, NFL, NHL, and of course the World Series which was the game of the night this past Wednesday). There are tons of pictures on the walls of past visitors and Atlanta landmarks. My favorite part of Moondogs is seeing Moondog! The honorary bar mascot is an adorable puppy who hangs out in the bar with his owner and has pretty free reign. He'll walk around on the bar and get all the love and attention he can. He doesn't steal sips or knock things over so he's always a welcome guest. This bar isn't my weekend place to go since it can get pretty crowded pretty quickly and parking can be difficult. I've been to Moondogs a couple times, and I'm pleasantly surprised (and maybe a little embarrassed) to admit that I actually kinda like this bar! It's definitely not the type of place I would normally hang out at or make it a point to go to, but I haven't had a bad experience here! Although the parking situation sucks and you have to find street parking (unless you want to pay $10 to park in the lots, such as the Trader Joe's parking lot), at least I haven't ever had to pay a cover. Maybe they never charge cover, which is cool, but I've only been there on Friday nights so I don't know for sure. This is actually a good place to go with a large group because there is a variety of things you could do in the numerous rooms. The karaoke machine is obviously very old and the songs probably aren't the most up to date, but a few of my friends and I have enjoyed singing karaoke - in front of people we don't know! (Shocking for those of us who are used to singing in private noraebangs with only our friends!) The bartender in the karaoke area is super friendly and makes yummy drinks. In addition to the karaoke section, I have also participated in a few games of flip cup and beer pong. However, I think it's super disgusting to play beer pong in a bar - using a mere cup of water to "rinse" your ping pong ball after it's fallen and rolled on the floor. Yuck! Don't wanna do THAT again... I hate beer and suck at beer pong anyway, so no biggie. Overall, Moondogs gets 3.5 stars for being a chill bar with plenty of things to do aside from the usual drinking that you can do at any other bar. There are different rooms dedicated to dancing, karaoke, pool, and flip cup. On "Welfare Wednesdays" there are $1 drinks while they last. They also have a drink called the Inception Bomb (a drink within a drink), which is definitely worth at least witnessing. On busy nights, it can be difficult to walk through the crowds of people. There are few experiences I detest more than entering the fraternity/UGA haven that is Moondogs. Don't get me wrong ... I'm Southern, preppy and did my fair share for the Greek system in college, but this place just hits all the wrong nerves. It's smoky, crowded, full of way-too-young kids and never offers up much excitement. At least they have live music and something that could be referred to as a dance floor. Decent bar around the area. Met up with a group of friends when I got back into town on a Friday night. Not a big crowd there, but definitely a good crowd of people to hang out with. First time trying Hopsicutioner, and it was definitely deserving of its name. If you haven't tried it yet - definitely go for it. Ended up moving towards the back room with the beer pong table and karaoke machine. Mad props for the SCCA Miata racing pic, that was one of the highlights of my night. I love Moondogs. One of the few bars in Buckhead that has actual activities! Pool, darts, karaoke, skee ball, flip cup and beer pong tables. Its also really big so the chances of it being too crowded are low which is great because I had clusters. Most of the bartenders are great especially Amy and the man that works at the main bar. Say hi to the bar dog if hes in :) Bartenders at the karaoke bar dont give a last call on putting in songs which is kind of a bummer. This is certainly a collegey divey non classy place but I like that. I dont feel like I have to dress up to go out and its always a good time. This bar was pretty fun to go to. I came here before when it was less crowded but now it has gained popularity. The only thing that I disliked was the wait time on the drinks. I understand that they are busy but we are right in front of then and just felt like my group got ignored. Ok, let's get one thing straight. I am in my late twenties and LOVE this bar. It is the real deal. Not so much a college bar as much as it once was. More of an industry and young professionals. I travel for a living and have found this to be my home away from home. Amazed at how many people I have met that know of this place. Yes, it gets crowded and loud. But again it is a bar. Get there early if you want to avoid the crowd. From local Atlanta celebrities Corey Smith, John Mayer, The Braves players, Jim Thome, Matt Stafford, the Farrelly Brothers, Amanda Bynes, to the even forgotten Cuba Gooding Jr have all downed their fair number of shots mingling with the staff. Why? Because it is not as pretentious as most bars and clubs in Atlanta. It has a laid back atmosphere where you can have a few drinks and chill. Was suggested to this place while having dinner at Blue Pointe. The staff stated that this is where they head to on their nights off. So taking the inside suggestion we headed up the stairs. Sure enough found our waiter hours later doing a shot with the staff. That is when we met Dallas and Mack. Two brutally honest, drink slingers. No obnoxious flare to be seen, just on the money service and heavy pours. We Love these guys. Don't get up here as much as I would like to now, but when I do I am greeted with a smile and my favorite drink. Never really had a bad time here. It is so nice to have an escape plan. So any time we find ourselves getting hit on by some Ed Hardy, Affliction wearing tool we head over to any one of the four bars here. The venue is massive and open. You may even get lost. Sometimes I feel like dancing, other times I just want to get my drink on. As far as the bathrooms go? There are two separate restroom facilities for both the Men and Ladies. Would highly recommend Moondogs. Yes, It is dirty at times, and the smoke is over whelming, but it is a bar. A bar made for people who enjoy bars. My partying days are pretty much behind me, but I come out to Moondogs when 1/3 of my trio tries so desperately to hold onto the last of his college days. I had been declining his invitations until recently, due to the fact that he'll be moving away for his big boy job sooner than I wished. Just trying to spend as much time with him as possible! When I come with him, it's like all the doors open up and I never have to pay for anything. He knows pretty much everyone there, so our group becomes exponentially larger by the end of the night. He is among those GT students (and alum) who love coming here, like Daniel B. stated, especially the fraternity and sorority kids. Being friends with at least one of the bartenders definitely has its perks -- can anyone really turn down free drinks? Don't think so. I've never been charged for cover, and my buddy told me about the parking spot that's absolutely free and lowered/slammed car friendly. There are a lot of things to do here, unlike the other dive bars nearby. There's $1 pool, though the billiard tables are small, the cue sticks are crooked, and most people who place their money on the table to play next aren't exactly on their A game. Hey, blame it on those cheaply priced drinks! There's also darts, but I'd stay away from inebriated kids with pointy objects. If you want to work on your flip cup or beer pong skills, there's a spot for you, too. Or maybe drunken karaoke is more your pace? Yup, climb up on the stage, grab a microphone, and maybe.. just maybe, the stripper pole might somehow end up being part of your act. Nom on some free popcorn and people watch if you're the sober one for the night; soak in all you can and remind your friends later of all the things they can't remember. The atmosphere is very laid back, so wear whatever you're comfortable with. The bar is located upstairs and consists of a myriad of rooms. This place is crowded, people are hammered sloppy, and my buddies and I were systematically shut down by every girl in the place right up until closing time. Moral of the story? This bar is freakin legit. As 3 Yankees and a couple of Canadians down in ATL for the NHL 2008 All Star weekend, we hit any bar we could find, any bar we were told about, and we hit them all as hard as humanly possible. That said, our group was dismantled and only semi-conscious upon leaving, with me (somehow) the only coherent witness by nights end. Cheap beer, friendly service, and young and mostly good looking crowd (ok, I was 1,000 miles from home. I'm allowed to pretend everyone was good looking). If you see a girl forcing her friends to play "who can throw popcorn and catch it in their mouth" with her, it's probably me and no, I'm not drunk. I'm always entertained when I come here, but their selling point is their staff! I never have to fight for their attention or push&shove to get my order in like I do at other bars AND I always leave having bonded with at least one of the bartenders of the night... too bad I can't remember any of their names the next morning. The party was in full swing when we got there. The dance floor isn't large, therefore it was crowded and hot. Lots of group bumping and grinding going on. The music was top 40 and easy to move to. The bartenders seemed overwhelmed, but were hustling as quickly as possible. We staked claim to the dartboards and hung there for a while. The dartboards are next to the entrance and on the way to the restrooms, so there were a couple of near-misses with some oblivious partyers. There are also some pool tables in the back, smashed next to the restrooms. Okay, let's address the restrooms. It was so crazy hectic with men running in and out to relieve themselves in the trough. I don't even think there was a door on the men's room. The hallway to the restrooms was cramped and short. There was nowhere to stand and wait for a turn. And, in the ladies room, there were two toilets, but no stalls. Yep. The ladies get to socialize face to face while peeing. Awesome. Moon Dogs is a typical fun-loving, good time bar. Oh, and watch out for that itty-bitty treacherous step on the way up to, and down from, the dance floor. read more
