Koo Koo Room - Dance Clubs Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

The best place to go on the weekend! Everytime My fiancé and I go we have a blast and the music is amazing. You don't notice this place from the outside but once you get in it is too fun! The manager Jeff is so sweet and can assist with anything. We have never had a bad experience here. Bottle service is reasonably priced and it does get a little hot so you may not want to wear a jacket if you plan on dancing to the house music! Saturday are definitely the best night to come! We will be coming back for sure! read more

This is a hidden secret and you will miss it if you're not sure where to look. It's right next door to Tin Lizzy's. The place looks small because you have to go down steps then it expands into a larger area. Parking can be hard but we just parked across the street and paid $10. I went on a Tuesday night, which I understand is the best night to go. I went for a birthday party, but it didn't appear to be a cover charge for anyone that night. The place doesn't open until around 10:30 pm so we enjoyed $2 tacos at Tin Lizzie's until they opened. Once inside it is clear that if you don't have a section you will mostly be standing all night. That's the only downside to this spot. Otherwise it was a winner for me. The DJ played excellent music, people actually danced, and I was pleasantly surprised that the drinks were very good and reasonably priced. The attire was a mixture of everything. Some had on hats and tennis shoes while others were more dressed up. As the night got later it became very crowded. Overall, we had a great time. But I must say it may not have been as much of a great experience had we not had a section. read more

Sunday was a whole vibe. The drummer was playing with the music, flipping sticks, playing on the ceiling, just going crazy! energy energy and everyone was on the dance floor. Great time read more

it smelled like farts upon arriving. the music was reminiscent of a 2001 frat party (in a bad way). the bouncer was most definitely at the january 6th capitol riot and had a chip on his juiced out shoulder. i called ahead and they lied about the hours they claimed to be open are completely wrong. i'm honestly mad at the time + gas i spent coming to this side of town. they scared/scarred me for life. they hate women and Black people. they were denying the only people of color trying to come in. do Not come to the koo koo room. the same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago and i was being GENEROUS giving them a second chance to those making less than the federal minimum wage. my heart goes out to them. i wish y'all's bouncers who worked tonight well since they peaked in high school and will obviously not achieve much else in life. read more

Straight up got insulted by TANNER, a low skilled, awful, and frankly intimidating bouncer. I hope he gets fired, because I'm never coming again and recommending my contacts to never come again as well. He slammed my head into the bricks of the building when I was simply trying to meet my brother for his birthday celebration. So messed up, I hope that Koo Koo Room gets a new bouncer, seems simple enough. #Scarred read more

Underground hot spot for late night and regular drink fun. Get here early because it packs out fast.

I had been hearing about Koo Koo Room, but honestly, as many times as I've been on Crescent Ave on a Friday or Saturday night, didn't even know this place was right there off the street, down in a dungeon! However, I finally figured it out, upon being invited to a birthday party here on a Friday night. I had a great time, although it's not a place for a "clubber", it's more of a lounge I'd say. We had a VIP section, so we had plenty of room and drinks flowing to keep the party alive. The music was good, however, the space is pretty small. I'd definitely come back, but am more likely to do so before heading to one of the other night spots on the street. read more

I ventured out to Koo Koo Room last weekend in search of a decent DJ and lounge scene. This spot is apparently co-owned by Ace Amerson of MTV's "Real World" fame (yeah, I don't remember him either - nor would I recognize him in a 2-man line-up). Atmosphere: Small-ish basement bar and lounge with exposed brick and unfinished, blacked-out ceiling. Comfortable couches and roped-off VIP areas surround the small space to give it that high end touch. $20 dollars at the door even though I was accompanied by 4 (count them 1, 2, 3, 4) attractive woman was almost too much. But Hey, you don't roll with 4 attractive woman on any given night if you're the kind of guy that's going to openly make a fuss with a door guy over $100. I paid the hefty door fee and proceeded down the narrow set of stairs (a little put off). Music: Some downtempo, jazz-infused beats that turned into mostly house, then later popular hip hop. I would have preferred it to stay downtempo and "lounge-y", but figure the DJ was simply playing to the crowd. Drink: Drinks were as expected, typical vodka/sodas, bourbon/gingers, were ordered by me and my guests. It seemed after I tipped the bartender generously after the first round, the next round came a little stronger. Bonus. Service: Spotty, even as a generous tipper. It was typical to wait 5 to 10 minutes after our drinks were empty to get another round - and this was even with a spot front and center at the bar. This lounge may charge too much and offer too little -- consider $20 for parking, another $80 dollars at the door for a party of 4 and then $40 or so dollars for a round of drinks. After a few hours and 4-5 drinks, you've spent $300 to $400 bucks to essentially party in a basement. read more

Not a big club person at all but the atmosphere was pretty good. Dj played s nice mixture of just about everything to keep the crowd entertained no matter what era you partied in. If I'm feeling the need to go out during the middle of the week this will definitely be a place I'd visit. read more

They don't even deserve one star. I had an unbelievable encounter with a really tragic couple tonight...only to find out that the guy is actually part owner. I think that makes what happened exponentially worse. I was there with my parents, aunt, uncle and brother...and celebrating a very special occasion. We had just had an awesome time at another spot and were treated amazingly by the owner and staff. This place however was crowded with young drunk people and there was nowhere to stand. My family found the only standing room on the steps of what we soon discovered was the "VIP section". After about 7 minutes there, we were all ready to go. As we turned to leave, the part owner came up to us and literally began shooing us away like animals. He said "this is my private section and yall are blocking it. You need to get." He rudely motioned with his hands over and over again to grown adults (and first time customers) to get away. I turned to him and politely said, "Could you please use your words? No need to be disrespectful and shoo human beings away like animals". Next thing you know his drunk and apparently very proud girlfriend jumps an inch from my face asking why I'm talking to her boyfriend. WHAT?! Am I now in high school? I don't care about your little boyfriend. She then proceeds to get extra bold because I think she believes she's very important. What I believe is that when you jump in front of someone's face, you have sent an invitation to get some knuckles across yours. More importantly, I believe that treating ALL people with respect is how you avoid dumb bar fights to begin with. Shame on this "owner" and his "girlfriend" for their behavior. Don't waste your money and time here. read more

Ok so granted this was one of the first few nights the place was open, but the AC was broken, and it is underground (specifically under Flip Flops). Hi its the south, do not have people come in to a place with no AC...also the bartenders seemed a bit stretched/confused. There may need to be opening kinks that need to be worked out, and if they can figure it out then it might be worth a round 2, but honestly they need a few weeks to figure it out. The actual set up is decent it is a small area, it could turn into something. They were also weird about letting guys in, which honestly is kind of lame if you are a girl, you end up with a bunch of creepy old club men, with 70% women, awesome. read more

I don't remember much of what happened at this place but I do recall it being a pretty hoppin' club. There was a mixed bag of folks. You had your group of hot girls who wouldn't let a guy come within three feet of them. There was a group of young men dressed up as if they just came from their rookie day in the corporate world (it was Saturday night, BTW). One guy who rolled one deep was smashed beyond everything imaginable and was hitting on anything that walks. Turns out, my buddy knew him. Go figure. Fireball shots later. $10 cover to get inside. The bar has an underground feel. The DJ was playing good music. At my age, I tend to people watch at the bar so I wasn't really into getting into all the shenanigans of what was going on. It sure was fun watching drunk people have fun. Everything listed above are all key ingredients to any fun night. read more

What a dump! $10 cover to hang out in your friends tiny basement? The air conditioning was bad (very muggy) and drinks overpriced. I was lured in and tricked by slick marketing: don't make the same mistake. We were there for 5 minutes Saturday night, then decided this wasn't the place we thought it was. Unfortunately that was 4 minutes too long to get a refund. I'm out 20 bucks and Yelp readers are warned... read more

Ok so, I came across this place after leaving Sutra nxt door, due to lack of ppl. It was a Tuesday night. The bouncers told my fiance and I that THIS is the spot on Tuesdays, so we thought, why not? It was round midnight and the place was semi crowded. This does not take much because it is a small venue. It is truly lounge because their isn't much room for a dancefloor. Mostly couches/VIP sections and a bar to look cool at. I was digging the decor and the DJ played house/techno for the first 1hr it seemed. He later switched it to hip hop/R&B and I was thankful! Ppl really started really come in and before I knew it, the place was packed. The crowd was good-lookin for the most part. Many of the females seemed conceited but hey that's ATL for ya.... I wouldn't mind getting a VIP section here one night, because that's where the most room and fun seemed to be happening. read more

I rarely go out to a lounge... in fact, it's been 3 years. I have no idea if Koo Koo Room is a known great place or a horrible place. Use Uber. Safe yourself the anger and frustration. :) I did like the space and bar here. Seemed pretty open & everyone in my group got a drink & were satisfied. One thing I liked: music was great here. None of the EDM stuff. I never understood how people enjoyed that kind of music...to each their own. Haha. When I went (a Saturday night before midnight) - there was no cover. Major plus. I hate cover. As I saw people trickle in - there were all kinds of folks here. I wasn't aware this lounge attracted such different groups, haha. It slowly got crowded - which is a good sign. They do have random couches inside... some were even reserved. I assume people can get their parties in there. If I'm in the lounge mood, I wouldn't mind coming back. read more

OK so the word "small" is an understatement. It's a tiny basement room... that's it... My friend and I only went in because they bouncer told us it was free and to check it out - I'm guessing they dont make girls pay to get in or it was a ladies night. This place is definitely not worth ANY kind of cover. You walk downstairs into a tiny little dark basement with faint neon lights and cheesy euro-house music. I walked in - stayed for 10 minutes and was done. The crowd was full of creepy old men and when my friend and i went in - we were basically the only ladies in there. I felt like the whole room was staring at me like I was a piece of meat. Also, I dont know what that other guy was saying but there is NO dancefloor. I have to be fair here and say that i've only been once and was only in there for 10 minutes (if that). it may not always be that bad - But that one time has turned me off from it forever. read more

Ok, first of all, i walk in to this place, $20 for a cover fee!?? the person before me spent ten, then, when my girlfriend walked up next to me, the guy says, just kidding, only $10 for you, she gets in free. So we make our way inside, i felt like i was going into a 'tales from the crypt' episode. Order drinks-wayyy expensive and took about 20 minutes, this was on a friday night, they had plenty of staff, and we were seated right in the middle of things. The manager was disrespectful and only payed attention to my girlfriend, but the weird thing was that he walked off holding another mans hand?? read more

I hope the owner of this venue sees this post because they need to conduct a serious evaluation of their employees. Tonight, a patron at the venue outside (as I was taking my cash out to pay cover) made numerous insults, including but not limited to: "you're the first colored person I've met whose family was not on welfare", "you're from dirt, your wife is from dirt, and your child is going to end up in dirt". This was without provocation, it was in response to the BOUNCER saying "they probably can't afford cover to come inside", "they" being me and my other friend who is also a minority, and while I was pulling out the cash to pay cover. While I was clearly upset at these remarks (I was also sober, so I was completely aware of what was going on, not that it couldn't mitigate the anger I felt), the bouncer threatened to call the police after stating "you have no right to be angry, what he saying is probably true". It's unbelievable this behavior is allowed by the management, and I'm wondering if it is ratified. I'm seriously considering legal action and I warn other patrons to stay clear of this place. read more

This little hidden gem on crescent ave can be walked right by and missed. $20 cover typically for guys if you don't know someone at the door. Come on the right night and you may see Sir Charles Barkley roaming the VIP section. Bartenders are great and can whip up a round of drinks in no time. Ad this to your list of midtown bars to hit on a Saturday night. read more

I seriously love this place. Every time I've been here, the music has always been great! Like someone else said, the crowd is very diverse. You never really know who you're going to run into here, and I love that. The entrance is really cool too. It's tucked away like you're going to some secret room and the inside has a real sexy red and very dark theme. The whole setup makes you feel very trendy. read more

I am older and am over the "mega club" kind of scene and Koo Koo Room allows me to get the atmosphere of a mega club without all of the people, long lines, long wait for drinks, etc. The bartenders and bouncers are always friendly and ready to serve you. This place is a cool escape from the "21"-year-old crowd that seemingly takes over larger spots like Opera. Conveniently located across the street from Opera and directly below Flip Flops, Koo Koo Room is a great club to come to and meet a great crowd. Each night, you're never sure what's going to go down, with celebrities like Junior Seau, Dallas Austin, and Lil Jon stopping by. (And they've only been open 4 months!) They know it's the newest, hottest spot in Atlanta. Do you? read more

Smaller bar that you walk down the steps sort of underground to. Doormen are sometimes annoying and a little pretentious for the establishment, but every time I've been here I've enjoyed it. The Koo Koo Room is discretely hidden in the remodeled basement of Flip Flops on Crescent Avenue and is truly Midtown's BEST KEPT SECRET. It has a living room/library ambiance that makes you warm and comfortable, yet makes you want to get wild and dance the night away. The DJ spins on an INCREDIBLE sound system with an elaborate lighting package that matches the beat of the music and builds with the mood and intensifies in timing and colors as the night and the party progresses. Due to Koo Koo's smaller size/capacity and its intimate atmosphere, the club feels more like an exclusive VIP party with your closest (and certainly most attractive) friends. read more

I used to like this place. Loved the intimate feel and the secret location vibe. You'll miss it if your walking by as you have to take stairs down from the street to enter. The bar staff is really cool & the DJ rocks...well on Tuesdays. I've never visited on any other night. I went for my birthday two weeks ago, on a Tuesday, and the club promoter was being very touchy freely and my guy told him to keep his hands to himself. The promoter started yelling & being rude towards my guy. My guy was calm the entire time. The promoter then asked security to have my guy removed from the club. Wait...what?!? He gets to touch me inappropriately & we have to leave? Wow! Won't visit this place again...EVER! I guess the money the promoter brings in the club supersedes his disrespectful behavior. read more

Ok, but super small and nothing new to see. Lot better places. Cover charge is stupid for the basement.

I'm use to partying in Statesboro and Savannah where most mix drinks are 5 dollars and you can get tall boys or pbr for 2 dollars and pitchers for 8 to 12 bucks. Most shots are 3 dollars and if you get a really fancy one u can pay about 5. Paying 8 dollars for a week rum and coke really didn't sit too well with me. But, the d.j. was really good and everyone I was with seamed to have a lot of fun. Next time though... I'm bringing a flask lol . read more
