I've heard a lot of people talk about this place but I was ultimately underwhelmed. There were not too many people there when we went but I could see how it could be fun with more people. The bartenders unfortunately made it not a fun experience. They had a mean girl energy to them. There was no one really there but they kept rushing my friends to order drinks/food. The bouncers were cool though. They also don't want you taking any videos in there and will come up to you and look over your shoulder if you take out your fun. That rule is pretty reasonable but how they enforce can come off a bit aggressive. read more

Great place to go after work for quick bites and strong drinks! The menu is standard bar food but each menus item has a "Johnny's" twist. Please order something to eat if you plan to drink. The atmosphere is unique. It's definitely that neighborhood bar that blends old school charm with a ton of memorabilia paying homage to entertainers from past and present. Gigi was the only server for the entire restaurant and she did her thing! She is outstanding. She made sure she had conversation with everyone and did not make us feel like we were ignored. I visited on July 4, 2026, and left feeling completely heartbroken. I stepped out of line for less than a minute because my mom called, and the music was so loud that I walked into the rain just to hear her. When I came back to rejoin the friends I'd already been waiting with, the bouncer immediately accused me of cutting the line and scoffed in my face. I understand that security has a job to do, but I was never given a real chance to explain what happened. Instead, I was told I had to pay a $40 cover if I wanted to stay with my friends because I had supposedly "cut" the line, even though I hadn't. read more

Johnny's this past Saturday Night seemed to be a mix of obnoxious kids and dangerous thugs. I will try again but not on a weekend night any time soon. Starting going there when I was one of the kids, but we had respect. Saturday night was $20 to park the drop top, $10 cover, no worries but crowd too packed to mingle, and seemed more about flex than fun. Not sure how to fix that...initially I put one star. I just revised because in fairness my comment is not about Johnny's because they do an incredible job keeping patrons safe from others...and from themselves. My comment was more about the clientele, and I hope the Atlanta institution can preserve its well earned reputation for a fun, safe, diverse, one of a kind treasure. read more

Johnny's Hideaway is no longer the place it used to be. My friends and I had a terrible experience that proved how far downhill this venue has gone over the last ten years. A group forced themselves into our table, and when we asked them politely to move to an empty table, one of the girls shoved her body into my friend. When I addressed her behavior, Cameron, Edgar, and James brushed it off instead of protecting paying customers. Cameron, in particular, has allowed drugs and even weapons inside, completely unacceptable. Edgar and James were just as dismissive, showing no professionalism whatsoever. Even when APD was called, Officer Kay Chimino (Badge #5985) was highly condescending and made us feel even worse about the situation instead of resolving it fairly. This place is unsafe, poorly managed, and unworthy of anyone's time or money. What once was a classy nightlife spot has turned into a toxic environment with zero accountability. Stay away. read more

Food is good, service is fast enough for friday and saturday nights but I recommend visiting Johnny's on a thursday. The ambiance is unique compare to most of places in Atlanta. It's a great place for age 35+ but it's possible to see every age group. read more

This is not a safe space for people like me. I drove 30 minutes just to be turned around for not having a top button. I was dressed more formal than most of the people there and was rejected for not having a top button. I love places that promote the crowd that they want. Just post a sign that says no colors allowed like the 60s. When you see the ambience it's like a 60s burger spot so it's loud and clear. read more

Best Dance Club in Atlanta - 70's Vibes Johnny's is a great place to go and soak in the retro atmosphere. It has a distinct feel that is hard to describe. Excellent service and a fun place to strike up a conversation with another of the friendly patrons and also a good place to people watch. We came here on a party bus and this place has all the retro vibes! In before 9pm and there is no cover. We got there just in time and the place was already pretty packed. Getting drinks was easy, but getting a table was not. You put your name in with the host and a table never became available the whole night. Besides that, the service was great! Moving onto the dance floor, this is where the party was at! It was packed and the music was old school hits from back in the day. The singular disco ball is a classic and you cannot take your drink on the dance floor, strictly enforced. They announce birthdays, anniversaries, etc. like at the roller skating rink. The drinks here are strong so be careful...it can creep up on you. The demographic here is great and the people watching can't be beat! read more

Went here alot back in 2024 . On one particular night I sat at the bar minding my business ready to order a drink and food. My friend was beside me and had a conversation with someone else that I didn't even know. They made the both of us get up and they scanned our ID's. I'm not one to beg to spend my money but did call and email back and forth as I had gotten kicked out for no absolute reason. We came for our anniversary and it was an awesome blast to the past. The staff is great; the drinks are great quality and not overpriced. The ambiance was retro and fun with a spot-on DJ. 11/22/2025 Saturday night I had a terrible experience at Johnny's last night. My guest and I were seated at the bar near the entrance and were served by extremely rude and flustered bartenders. One was a white woman with blonde hair, and the other was a tall Black man who appeared to be bald. I didn't get their names, so this is the best description I can provide. The situation escalated unnecessarily when my card declined as the bartender attempted to process my transaction. I politely told her to give me a moment while I transferred funds, but she became impatient and visibly frustrated. Before I could finish, the tall male bartender who had ignored my guest and me most of the night and refused to serve me while serving customers right next to us started flashing a light in my face to signal security. Security then came over and kicked us out, all over a simple payment issue that I was actively resolving. We absolutely did not deserve that treatment. It felt like the bartenders were overwhelmed and took their frustration out on us. If they can't handle the pressure of their job, perhaps they should consider a different work environment. I will never return to this establishment. On top of everything, the dress code is ridiculous there's no reasonable explanation for banning respectable graphic T-shirts. The place also gets uncomfortably overcrowded, making it nearly impossible to relax or enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, it's just a strange and disappointing establishment. read more

Johnny's doesn't like Yelp. Please see the sign out front that literally tells Yelpers to "Yelp elsewhere." They have attitude and are self-righteous, but I'm going to do a review anyway. Their "dress code" is racist. Cover is $10, which is annoying. They charge for water and refuse to give just a regular cup of water, which is also annoying. Well drinks are around $10. Beware the line gets long and it's packed inside. They have a dance floor (strictly no glass or drinks allowed on the dance floor) and also tables with seating. It's still a fun place with a decently wide range of people. I see a lot of bachelorette parties there, as well as the classic cougar that Johnny's is known for. They play a wide range of music too - 70s/80s to today. Johnny's is a good place to take out-of-towners to show them what Atlanta is about. read more

So came here on a weekday on a whim, and it wasn't that bad! The door security got us in fast and had some jokes and good customer service. The bartender was super cool! One is the drinks wasn't good and he had no issue trading with something else! So if nothing else the customer service at the bar was solid as well. The lemon pepper wing situation was solid. Patty melt was damn good. It's barfu but it was actually pretty good bar food. They came pretty fast, and was hot, so I have zero complaints. So the vibe of Johnny's is a little different. You can find some super old people on the dance floor. You can find some goth people on a dance floor. You can find a whole lot of everything! They only really play probably '70s or '80s music so it is definitely something specific to what you want if you can go there. It's not going to be a hip hop club or R&B club or whatever the case may be. But you kind of got to know what you're doing or what you're getting yourself into. read more

Johnny's is probably one of my favorite places to go out for nightlife in Atlanta. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I believe it is something you have to experience at least once. They have a designated dance floor and iconic disco ball. Their drinks are also notoriously strong, but not too expensive. I could tell immediately because one shot here feels like a double shot everywhere else. There's not always a cover, which is good. And when there is, I think it is only $10/$15. I have also tried the bar food and it was delicious. It was so good I would come back for the food. The music is a smattering of oldies, so there's not always something you can vibe to. Finally, I like that their seating options are ample. read more

Much has been written and said about this fabled Atlanta Nightspot. Having visited last night, Friday 12/29/3023 I will offer why I think it remains so popular over 4+ decades. Although seemingly always busy, the front staff was welcoming and friendly. I was very fortunate to secure a seat at Malinda's (sp?) bar. A complete professional. Helpful, friendly. Took time to answer questions when able. Never once had to ask for a refill, paid close attention to all her customers needs. Constantly hustled to keep pace with the huge and growing crowd, always with a bemused smile on her face. Simply outstanding. Of course no bartender does it alone. Demitri the bar back was extraordinary, constantly supporting. New glasses, cocktail ingredients, stocking liquor and beers, I never saw him stop, his team wanted for nothing. He was so proactive, and managed the dance of support perfectly. So yes, a fun, very diverse, dance club and bar that obviously has the management and mechanics of catering to their patrons down cold. Next time I'm in Atlanta, top of my list to return to. Loved every minute of my lengthy visit. read more

Was here for trivia and the food and service were very good. Everyone in my party got standard bar food and everyone was impressed. I did the chicken sandwich and tots and it was cooked perfectly and a massive portion that I couldn't finish. The cocktails are very good. Service was spot on. I was shocked upon entering Johnny's Hideaway for a celebration of a new Superior Court Judge Alice Benton for Fulton County to be greeted by a tall man with glasses who was watching the front door, with the words, "Hi dear." Hi dear? Who does this greeter think he's talking to? I've never met this man in my life, so how can I be his dear? It made me wonder if he called Judge Alice Benton "dear" as well! How embarrassing for him. And how patronizing to be treated! Luckily, the chicken finger and fries were delicious at the establishment. But, on my way out, the tall man with glasses once again said "Goodbye, dear." Maybe I should have said "Goodbye dear" to him as well. read more

My friends and I came here after leaving a speakeasy nearby. There was a line when we got there but it took only about five minutes to get to the front. There was a cover fee of $10 per person. There were tables available to sit around the dance floor which was tightly packed but very fun! I only had bottled drinks so I can't attest to their cocktail mixes. I LOVE this place! I've been so many times thru the years and it never disappoints. Ive had birthday nights there, had dinner & drinks, watched football games and played trivia. There's something going on all the time. And although its known as the cougar bar, weekend nights are a good mix of younger people. DJ is on point. The food is good for bar food and to share with friends, and the staff is great!! Always friendly and interactive bartenders and attentive servers. I take out of state friends here as an Atlanta "must go". Would recommend to anyone. read more

Johnnys is my go-to spot when I have family visiting from up north. I love this spot. So fun, and we are always well treated by the employees! Going again this weekend most likely ;) One thing I will like to add as just some feedback, the last time I went around Christmas, the women's bathroom sink was scorching hot as soon as the handles were turned.
